The resort was beautiful, the drinks were great and the staff was awesome. We weren’t a huge fan of the food and we were harassed constantly to use our resort credits which they use as a sales pitch to buy timeshares. We paid for the “preferred” level service which honestly wasn’t worth it, besides the preferred lounge. And kudos to Octavio in the preferred lounge because he was awesome. It blows my mind that people don’t tip the staff members while vacationing in Mexico. They make under $20 a WEEK! We tip like crazy and they staff member will take care of you without even having to ask for anything. It was a great stay besides the constant sales pitch.
We spent 10 days at the Dreams Riviera Cancun over Christmas and New Years. I'm always surprised at how picky people are in their reviews. When we are at an all-inclusive we always think how blessed we are to be able to have such a luxurious vacation where we are totally spoiled. The staff at Dreams are wonderful. We appreciated their good natures, their willingness to help, their kindness, their attentiveness and their smiles! We had a 5th floor room and made it our goal to use the stairs up and down every day for exercise to compensate for eating and drinking too much! The rooms were very nice! We had no complaints. The food situation was interesting. Most resorts we have gone to have had amazing buffets. Here is my assessment of the buffet at Dreams. First of all, the dining area is air-conditioned to the point of being cold. I always brought a wrap when we were there. We found out that the only meal that was worth eating there was breakfast. They do a great job at breakfast. You can also eat breakfast at the outdoor restaurant near the pool. We enjoyed that on warm, sunny mornings. Lunch was always out by the pool. Most days we enjoyed the chips and guac and pico de gallo, once in a while we would indulge in a burger and sometimes they set up really awesome buffets by the pool that included seafood or tacos - always something different, but really good. So when it comes to dinner, you have the choice of restaurants to eat at and you don't make reservations, except for the Bordeaux - which we didn't eat at because my husband doesn't like to wear pants and closed shoes at a resort - he is in total vacation mode. So, we at at all of the other restaurants and thoroughly enjoyed them all. You can dress more casually at those and so that was my hubby's choice. The beach is always where we would settle ourselves for the day. You can walk for miles each way and we love to do that. The seaweed issue is nothing to get worked up about. There were days when it was worse than others, but that is nature. The workers are constantly doing their best to clean it up. We also really enjoyed the infinity pool. What I liked about that is that it was heated and so it was a perfect temperature. The servers at the beach bar are wonderful. They are more than willing to serve us and do a good job of keeping up. It doesn't hurt to tip them and be friendly either! We enjoyed the pool bar as well. In the evenings we often hung out in the lobby 'people-watching' and talking with others which was fun. The lobby bar was wonderful and the lobby is full of servers checking on the people and bringing them what they ask for. We didn't care for the entertainment room, but we really loved the performers in the lobby at night. They were amazing! So, having said all of this, you should go to this resort and enjoy and not look for problems!
Nice resort overall!
We visited Dreams Riviera Cancun in January for a destination wedding. The wedding was beautiful, and we thought the resort was nice, too! There were plenty of chairs by the beach, sometimes the pool chairs were a little crowded. The bar in the pool was great, and service by the pool and beach was also quick. Restaurants were good, but sometimes a bit slow. The best quality food restaurant was Bordeaux, by far. The food at the wedding was also excellent. We enjoyed the live music throughout the resort vs the elevator music that many resorts play. Our only moderate complaint is that everything in the halls echoes, so there is a lot of noise in the rooms, sometimes late at night or early in the morning. If you want to sleep a lot, this might not be the best choice. The resort was clean, and housekeeping staff did a great job on our room. The area seemed safe, and you can walk up the beach into town in a quick 30 min walk if you’d like to go off resort for lunch or some shopping. Weather in January was warm (low 80s) but windy, with some clouds. We worried because the forecast called for rain every day, but it would only rain for a few minutes maybe once per day in the afternoon... so don’t let the weather panic you! We did not visit the spa, but heard good things about it.
Overall Good but wouldn't go back from the west coast
I want to start with saying that overall we had a great stay. And if this was our first vacation like this, we would have been blown away. however, having been to other all inclusive resorts, there were a lot of small details that we weren't excited for. Lastly, this is written from the perspective of the entire trip and experience, so some of it is about the Cancun area and not specific to the resort. The Excellent: - Restaurants - Oceana - the breaded and broiled fish options for lunch were the best ever - Portofino - everything, the best restaurant we went to - Angel the server was new and he was super attentive and great - Oscar the host took care of our family and made sure we settled in well - Bars - Premium Club bar - Octavio, Shiela and Jorge in the preferred club bar area the friendliest folks and easily made our the best ever - Overall service and atmosphere was amazing - Kids pool - Any kids above 2ft can just play with next to no supervision The good: - The buffet (World Cafe) for breakfast, bunch of egg options The bad: - Water smell and water flavor left on the body were terrible. This wasn't specific to our resort but to the whole area, i guess it was seasonal or something. But even after taking a shower, my wife and I could taste the water on our skins. - The buffet for lunch and dinner - not really good especially with all the other options available - The sand - because it’s powdery, the first 20-30 yards of the ocean is just cloudy because of it and you can’t see the the ground. Also when the wind blows, because it’s powdery, it goes everywhere, even if you are away from the beach. - Snorkeling - by the resort there really isn’t much to see, just grass and 1-2 small fish. I had a special mask that worked awesome in Hawaii but you have to pay and go to special snorkeling areas, nothing by the resort. - The extra surcharge for the New Years time, same thing could have been done for half the price (I checked later)
I visited Dreams with my Family of 6 after Now Natura failed to open in time. Our groups ages were from 65 to 21. This trip was my 11th to Mexico and I have stayed on both the Gulf side and Pacific side many times. Resort- I found the size of the resort about perfect, not to small or large, everything was in comfortable walking distance. Food- I am always amazed at the number of bad reviews about the food, it was very good. We only ate ate 2 resturants, Mexican, very good, Italian, very good and then the buffet, also very good. There was not 1 complaint from anyone in our group about the food. A special thanks to Anicacio at the buffet, great guy. Bars-All the bars had fast service but each bar made the same drinks a little different, some betterthan others. The Lobby bar was by far the best,Enrique, Clever, and Rosalino were so much fun and we all really enjoyed our time with them.Pool-The infinity pool was a blast, daily workout in the water with a cold beer, awesome. The other smaller pools were more quiet and very warm (too warm for me). Erick was our server at the pool and always ready with a fresh drink before the first was empty, Nice, polite, great guy. Rooms- Big rooms,BIG shower, good water preasure, Hot,Hot water, cleaned well daily, always stocked. Our room had a nice balcony but no wall partition for any privacy. We had a hot tub in the room but didnt use it. The Rooms are big enough for a Chest of Drawers which I think it needs. Beach- Really nice beach. soft sand,no rocks.
