2nd Stay, Not as Thrilled as the First
We just returned from staying 4 nights at Turtle Bay, it was our second time and I couldn’t wait to get back there. I wrote a review after our first time there raving about just about everything. Some things were as lovely, some weren’t. We were quite disappointed at check-in, unfortunately it was because of the service of the person who checked us in. I learned from my first stay that I wanted to be very specific about my room location - for example, if you stay in the East or West wing, you have the ocean view, but if you are on a lower floor you will have a roof blocking that view. Turtle Bay is clear that they can’t guarantee anything on your request, but will do their best. Fair enough - completely understandable. When we were checking in I asked where we were and was told the South wing overlooking the pool. I asked if that overlooked the water, thinking we’d be able to see the surfers and that may be okay, but was told no, just the pool. For starters, I did pay for ocean view, so why I would be even offered that is beyond me. When I mentioned I made a specific request she said “yeah, you requested the East or west wing.” I also requested a large balcony and as high as a floor as possible, which I reminded her as well. Now, to be 100% fair, they did move me and met my requests, but she seemed rather annoyed by the whole thing, like it was a bother that I asked. She also knew this was my second time staying there - didn’t seem to care, simply said, “you know your way around the property?” I thanked her several times, I even said “you’re the best” when she moved me, but in thinking back on it I’m rather annoyed by the attitude. If they had the room I requested available, why wasn’t I put there in the first place? It was the first time, and only, I haven’t been impressed by an employee there, but I am not happy about the experience. I also noticed Turtle Bay is starting to look a little dated - frayed carpets, marked furniture, missing tiles in the pool etc. However, nothing so bad that it impacted my stay in a negative way. Still love the food at Roy’s (do delicious and amazing service) and the pool bar, although I wish the pool bar would serve a little later. They close the children’s pools earlier then the large pool, so that gets a little hectic and loud, even later in the evening. I know swimming is a favorite of the little kiddos vacationing, so never could begrudge them that. My only recommendation would be to keep the kids pools open longer. In my first review of Turtle Bay (from 2017) the only thing I noted I wish was better was the parking. That has gotten worse. Finding self-parking is next to impossible - literally impossible on a couple of occasions. Self-parking also used to be included in the resort fee, which it is not. I will say their rates for valet are less then other resorts I stayed at and those that work in the valet are lovely. So, overall, still like Turtle Bay, but it does seem to be getting pricey for the value. Hope they upgrade soon.
We love Turtle Bay!
Perfect for a family getaway. The North Shore of Oahu is beautiful and very relaxing. Turtle Bay has much to offer. We love the pool and also the beach access. Turtle Bay is paradise with the best weather on the planet!
Lovely spot, nice stay, but question value-for-money
Turtle Bay is a quality resort. We stayed here for 7 nights in a lovely 3 Bedroom Ocean View Villa with a group of 5 including 2 young children. The Villa was definitely worth it. Spacious, high quality, full kitchen and gives you access to a small private pool and no additional charges to use the chairs in that pool. Whilst we enjoyed the stay we question the value for money. In comparison to other resorts of this size, it felt small - there is only one other main pool area and one nice beach area to use and limited activities around the resort (vs. other resorts I have been to). The key issue for us was the amount of additional charges - resort fees ($75US per day), Villa Cleaning Fee (USD300), cost to hire beach chairs and some poolside chairs. If fees like everything has an extra charge and it really adds up vs. resorts in other parts of the world that are largely all inclusive. To be fair you can get DVDs and snorkel's for free! Recommend getting out of the resort. The bus comes into the resort and is only $2.50 per adult. Lots of nice beaches, walks, restaurants, food vans on the north shore. All in all. Nice place, but reckon there is a lot more better value resorts in other parts of the world – that offer more facilities and do it within the up-front price.
The views from our room at Turtle Bay, the beautiful beaches and the helpful Turtle Bay personnel ensured that our vacation would be a memorable experience! The location of the resort is on the fabled North shore of Oahu and the ocean breezes reduce the humidity to ensure more comfortable weather than we experienced on the south shore of the island. Turtle Bay is truly Paradise found and we can’t wait to come back again for our vacation next year! Thank you for the experience of a lifetime!
Another magnificent stay
We were fortunate to spend another week at TURTLE BAY RESORT on the North Shore. What a beautiful resort! The staff are friendly and helpful, the resort itself is immaculately clean and there are staff everywhere ready to make your stay amazing. We had two interconnecting vista view rooms which included a light but satisfying breakfast each morning. The staff at TBR make this place amazing and management have done a wonderful job training and supporting them to deliver a great customer experience. The pool area is ALWAYS immaculately clean and inviting which makes it a pleasure to swim in. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our 7 day visit and we look forward to returning again soon.
