another great trip to our happy place.

waited a few weeks before posting this so i could get my thoughts straight. I have been going to this resort over 20 years (before COBA or SIAN KIAN were even built) and i obviously have seen lots of changes, some good and not so good! they started renovations on the villa's back when we visited in April of this year and they were close to being finished on this trip but not yet. i did notice they added allot of swim out pools on the lower level of several of the villa's which will be nice when completed. this renovation impacted the resort big time, not so much the service because everyone at the resort is fantastic but in the resources available as i think i heard they had some 200 plus rooms impacted so obviously they cant run business as usual. here are some examples - i stayed in villa 66 and the bar right outside villa 66 was not open the entire week i was there. also the main restaurant my villa 66 Katok was not open for Breakfast any day during my trip and was only open at night two out of the seven days we were there. i noticed this also about other restaurants as well as Frutos del mar was never open the same night as Dolce vita it was one or the other. we understood and simply worked around these inconveniences during our stay and still had a fantastic time, the restaurants we did get reservations at were fantastic, the couple of days we ate at the buffet was great especially Friday which is steak and lobster night. not busy at all due to all the rooms being renovated and staff was smaller which is understandable and all were awesome. booking for next April again soon. hoping to see the final renovations completed.

    Average

I’m disappointed in our stay. We arrived with one other couple for a 3 nights stay. The resort: Grand Bahia is a huge complex. There are trolleys that take you between the hotels and even to your room, if needed. The grounds are well maintained. The rooms are being renovated and there is construction around the complex but it didn’t bother us much. Rooms: Our room was recently renovated and aesthetically very nice. The a/c worked great. Alternatively, the shower leaked all over the floor making it slippery - I am guessing it just wasn’t sealed correctly. The sink drained extremely slow. Our room key was our wristband, which was awesome. Beach and pool: You have your choice of beach and pool areas throughout the complex. The beach has some very rocky areas and some non-rocky areas. Obviously, the non-rocky areas were crowded and all the chairs were taken. We had no issues finding a chair in the other areas, which was okay with us since we enjoy quieter areas. Food: This is where I was extremely disappointed. We could not get reservations for the à la cart restaurants, they were fully booked. We tried a week in advance through the app but there was nothing available. We got to the hotel and same story, every thing was fully booked. We landed up getting a reservation at Tequila’s, the Mexican restaurant, after someone canceled. Tequila’s is just a buffet with tacos, salad, fajitas, etc. and the food was average. The fun of all inclusive resorts is having the nice dining, but we had to eat at the buffets or the snack bar for every meal. The food at Tikalito was not good. I ordered a burger and fries. My burger was overcooked, hard, and cold and the fries were also cold. Overall the food experience, or maybe lack there of, was a disappointment. To sum things up - staff was nice, the remodeled rooms were nice with minor flaws, variety of beach and pool areas, be patient with trolly wait times, and don’t expect to get dinner reservations, even if you try a week in advance.

The stay was generally good, but the room’s cleanliness was disappointing the mattress was dirty, the toilet needed re

Overall, everything was good — the location, service, and facilities were fine. However, the rooms were not very clean. The mattress was dirty, the toilet looked like it needed to be replaced, and there was some mold in the shower base. With better cleaning and maintenance, this hotel could be much better.

    Fabulous first experience in Mexico

We just returned from a wonderful week at Akumal with our lovely friends from England. This was my first trip to Mexico. The food was amazing, the staff was superb, and the weather was perfect. We did the excursion to the ruins in Tulum (thank you Oliver!), visited a Mayan village, and swam in a cenote. Big thanks to Francisco at the front desk, and to Jesus, Elsy, Javier, and Angel in the buffet, to our bell boy/man Fernando, and to whoever was the wonderful man who brought our breakfast to the room at 4am as we were packing to leave. Special thanks to Milton who got the Jays game up on the TVs in the sports bar. We will be returning for sure.
