Not a place you want to spend on vacation.
Very disappointed. This place is old. Beach chairs disgusting stained of body sweat (all of them by the way). Room had such an odor of mold, that we had to switch rooms. Also found a cockroach. The beach is unusable (looks like a trash dumpsite). It's obvious they are not investing any money into this place. There is also another section of the grounds with old rooms/buildings that must of been condemned and still there. Do yourself a favor, find somewhere else. The only thing I would say positive are the workers. They were friendly.

Trapped in Paradise .
A very short flight from Honolulu took apprx. 20 + minutes and then a 5 minute taxi ride from Lihue Airport to the Outrigger. That's when the fun started. The taxi- driver wanted to be paid in cash but I don't like carrying heaps of cash on overseas trips. She then demanded a nine dollar surcharge on a $16 fare if I paid by credit- card.. I couldn't believe it!! I finally decided to pay in cash, no tip! The Outrigger looked fabulous, swish reception area, very comfortable rooms, large pools and ample food and drink areas. We did not have a car, we felt very isolated from the nearest town. Incredibly, there is no regular local bus and no hotel shuttle. Not having a car can make you feel rather isolated. To offset this, my advice is that you do a thorough reconnaissance of all the shops and resources at the Outriggerthat are open and available. You will find it has lots on offer. My second piece of advice is to eat and drink at the Happy Hour, 5pm to 6pm each evening. Also a cheap breakfast can be had at the little gift shop. Third tip: top up your water bottles at the beach kiosk where they provide delicious, chilled water at no charge Whatever your choices, you should have a great time, lots of pleasure activities, luxury pools and the beautiful blue ocean so close you can taste it.

Disappointed
I was disappointed by our stay at the Outrigger. My husband and I stayed for 8 days in a premium partial ocean view room. We booked a king size bed, but were given a queen. The sheets were rough, and not changed throughout our stay. The bath towels with tiny (wouldn’t even wrap around me, and I’m 5’3”). The room was worn down for being the “premium.” The bath hand towel hook was broken off, the tub train wasn’t present. We kept having to ask for more body wash as they were not restocking it. The grounds were nice - good pools and nice koi ponds. However, we were limited to 2 pool towels at a time, which was unfortunate for 2 adults. We were really frustrated over the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) as it seemed like everyone in the community came to use the pool. Large families, a group of teenage girls (I counted 15), all came to use the pool and took up all the poolside seating. These families did not appear to be staying at the hotel as they all had their own towels and large coolers and drinks and snacks. It was frustrating to see management not enforce any boundaries about outside guests, especially since us (paying customers) were not able to get chairs. Parking was easy, the buffet breakfast was good. If you want to do anything, you will have to rent a car as there is nothing within walking distance of the hotel. Overall, a fine stay but definitely not a 4 star resort by any means. We would not stay again.

Great get away!
The staff was very friendly especially Katie at check-in! She went above and beyond to arrange it so our room would be near our friends that we were traveling with. Our room attendant Elsa was so sweet and accommodating. We would return to this resort and recommend it to others.
