High prices low value.
Absolutely ambivalent staff. Room air conditioner didn’t work and clogged. Repair took four hours and had not been serviced in 4 years. Phone didn’t work. TV was controlled by adjoining room remote. Desk chair broken. Refrigerator broken. Tired rooms. Food way way way overpriced for value and quality. The only thing good was luau. Do not stay here.

Dreadfully overpriced
Very very poorly laid out, and definitely not worth the money. A central lagoon for the kids is good but that about all Rooms and facilities are in a category way below the price. Difficult to navigate and very poor connections FOOD is appalling for the money unless you’re into deep fried sugared bread buns and fat fried meat. The only healthy thing at lunch was two summer rolls that had 4 shrimps and cost $21 !!!

Shockingly disappointed
On October 21, 2008, my wife and I were married on the grounds. Fast forward 16 years, 5 children and Diamond status later, and we're back! It must be said that the staff is excellent. They are doing the best they can with what they have and they haven't much. The overall reviews are spot on. Nearly everything is closed except for 2 restaurants on property and one of those is closed on Sunday and Monday. The breakfast buffet is $55pp and simply isn't worth half that. The Kona Bar and Grill is closed. The on site market place is closed. You can get an ice cream or dole whip until 3pm but after that.. closed. At Kamuela Provisions Company, we did enjoy or $22 margaritas one evening by the fire pit. We canceled our reservation for dinner as we just couldn't see spending $88 for a 7oz filet mignon plus what appeared to be ala cart side dishes. At Nui (Italian) the only other restaurant open after 5pm, we wanted a pizza one evening but stopped short after seeing that the Full sized Amante Della Carne pizza was $77. Parking is $48 per day. There is no executive suite for Diamond members. I'm sorry but if you spend the amount of money or overnights to attain Diamond status then you expect some sort of recognition. There is none. I was offered a 12pm checkout instead of 11am for my Diamond status. After inquiring again later, I was offered a 1pm checkout and promptly at 1pm, as we were walking out our door, housekeeping was there. The boats? We saw 1 but never saw it again. The tram? Unless it's right there, it's about a 20 minute wait and quite a few cars had no air conditioning. When it's 80+ degrees outside, you kind of need something when your inside a fiberglass tram with windows as it gets a bit uncomfortable. The grounds are nice. The pool is nice. The lagoon is nice. Overall, I gave it w stars and only because the staff and grounds. There are none food options so you must leave the property that you paid 600,000 points to stay at a rundown room and $48 a day parking. Did I mention that you must leave the grounds to eat anywhere? I shouldn't have had to go to Walmart/Target/Costco to get food for my 1 foot tall mini fridge as a Diamond member. The gym is dated with rusted and broken equipment. The bike on the left is broken as it won't power on. The first treadmill on the left needs lubricant of some kind. We did not use the spa but it looked nice. Folks, there is no reason to stay here. I'm shocked. As a matter of fact, as a Diamond member, if I would have known that nothing was open, it was beyond reasonable (even for overpriced Hawaii) to pay the prices you pay here. It's simply not worth more than 200,000 points per week and that's a stretch.

Lagoon and Water Activities are Great!
I travelled to the Big Island and stayed with my wife at the Hilton Waikoloa for the 3rd time. There were some disappointments especially compared with previous visits but as always the resort gets an extra star for the water features in my review. The Lagoon is a perfect place to snorkel no matter how little experience you have. No, it isn't Hanauma Bay on Oahu or Molokini off Maui but you simply walk outside your room and enter the water. No seasickness from the boat ride to Molokini or the hassle of driving and parking at Hanauma on the days it is open. It is very easy to find fish usually near the rocky areas of the lagoon. In addition, eels, manta rays, and turtles are pretty ubiquitous. The lagoon is fairly small but with lots of fish, protected from riptides and currents, and when you want a break just get out like at a pool. In addition, the dolphin pools / experiences are great, we did that on an earlier visit. It may be controversial to have 13 dolphins in the facility, but they do shows in the lagoon at 8AM on selected days during the week and if they really hated the place so much they could follow the turtles back to sea. The swimming pools are huge and well maintained, a plethora of lounge chairs surround the pools. The rooms are spacious and at the Makai Tower at least, well maintained. An empty refrigerator will hold your drinks. You have lots of storage space, twin sinks, and a very large TV with a wide selection of channels. The downsides to our visit - for whatever reasons, the Orchid Marketplace is closed - we used to pick up lots of food there which would have been especially attractive using our Hilton Diamond $36 daily credits. We picked up a pizza at Nui one day which was quite good and had dinner at Nui - my garganelli Bolognese was wonderful, my wife's Fettuccine Cacao e Pepe with chicken was disappointing. We planned to eat at Kampala Provision Company on our last day but it was closed Sunday and Monday. Fortunately, food is readily available at the Queens Marketplace - Island Gourmet is a great place to pick up a huge variety of ready to eat food from Prime Rib to salads to Hawaiian plate lunches. There also is a food court at the Queens with several vendor including Dairy Queen. The staff is friendly and hard working. I think the challenges of the past few years have affected the resort with closures, less attention to detail (public garbage cans overflowing for 3 days without being picked up). The Hilton Waikoloa remains a very unique mega resort and a great place to stay on a Big Island adventure.

Misinformed and bad customer service
Our stay was great until we checked out. We had confirmed upon check in that we would receive our daily Hilton honors food and beverage credit (for Hilton Honors) both nights of our stay. The Hilton app also reflected that we would receive it for both nights. When we checked out and saw that the credit was not given, we asked why and were told that third party reservations do not receive this benefit. This was never mentioned to us and when I informed the front desk (and later Hilton customer care) that we were misinformed multiple times, there was no efforts towards customer service - they just kept quoting policy (which, by the way, is not clearly found anywhere). Yes, it's not a lot of money in the grand scheme of our stay, but the principle is worth a lot more to me. They charge $55 a person for their breakfast buffet, which I was hoping to offset through the credit. They also charge $50 a day for the resort fee which is for things like refillable water bottles, cultural activities, and Wi-Fi that didn't work half the time - I think they can afford to do something to have addressed this. I have been a loyal Hilton Honors member for almost 20 years and have literally not encountered this in any other property I've stayed at - they've always took ownership when it was their mistake. This experience gave me a negative view of this property and its management - I did not feel like a valued guest.
