Nice spot, not very luxury, but overall decent experience
This was my first experience with an all-inclusive resort, and I think some of my critiques are more to do with the vibe of an all-inclusive in general versus a critique of this one resort. Overall, the resort met most of our needs as a multi-generational family trip (ages 5 to 75). The resort felt safe, the buffets were pretty good, and the pools and beach and activities were all good. I especially enjoyed the dance classes and the entertainment staff, Cesar in particular does a great job with this! The nighttime entertainment and shows were hit and miss, sometimes great and sometimes just okay. There were also some gaps in entertainment times, and it would have been nice to have some of the shows (like the fire show) happen a bit earlier so kids could join before bedtime. It would also be nice to have somewhere other than the Sports Bar and Snack Bar to get a drink or bite to eat at after the restaurants close down. You are not allowed on the beach at all at night, for security I guess, which we were not expecting. It would have been nice to have one of the Beach Bars available after sunset to sit and have a drink at (when the wind wasn't blowing too hard). A few of my family members including me have gluten allergies (Celiac) and we were able to eat at each meal, but the food labeling at the buffets were inconsistent, and I frequently had to track down a Chef to ask what was safe to eat. The a la carte restaurants were easier to order from for gluten free options, but it was nearly impossible to get reservations for those with our whole group (we were there for the holidays, so maybe it was more crowded than usual?). For us to all sit together, we pretty much had to do the buffet. For our last night, we did a "sommelier table" at the Brazilian steakhouse restaurant at Tulum resort, to do something different that the kids would also enjoy. Because the reservations were all booked ahead (even tho we'd tried throughout the week to get one) we had to buy $4000 pesos worth of wine to get a table. Which we figured was worth it, but still kind of annoying to pay $180USD to eat together at an all-inclusive resort. The rooms were ok, nothing that I would consider "luxury" but also not terrible. They could use some repairs and updating, but our AC worked fine and the maid service was great. We were in a waterfront view room, which meant we were a bit of a walk from the main lobby and the rest of our family, but it also meant a quieter area, and right next to the adults-only infinity pool and bar/grill, which was where some of us ended up getting breakfast and lunch buffets. We were on a corner room, and never had any noise disturbances. My brother's room however was across from a loading zone by the front of the resort, and had a lot of noise disturbances starting early in the morning. We did not go to the other resorts within the compound very much, so I can't say much about those facilities. We did do a couple of excursions, but did not book them thru the resort. It was easy enough to order a taxi from the bellhop and go into Akumal or Tulum if you wanted to. The taxis were not cheap though, so if you planned to do this alot, it would add up. The New Years Eve party was fun, I was impressed with how much labor went into the whole event and how they pulled it off. Lots of music, entertainment, and props. Overall, if you like all-inclusives where you don't really want to leave the property at all and enjoy sitting poolside with a drink, without spending a ton of money, this could be a good option for you. The staff was very nice, the vibes were good, the weather was also pretty good (it rained a little bit but not long enough to be a damper on anything, altho one night we did have high winds and heavy downpour -- it's the tropics tho, to be expected). The transpo from Tulum airport is pretty easy, about an hour, roughly the same time as from Cancun airport.

Walmart of hotels. Not a luxury experience as marketed.
Old dated hotel. Staff is friendly but they don't have much to work with. Walls are thin , plugs are falling out of sockets. Can't get reservations for Ala Ca rte Restaurants that were never 1/2 full. Which forces all of the guests to use the basic buffet.

Very good Resort for the value
My husband and I stayed at the Bahia Principle Luxury akumal. Our vacation was very good. Service was fantastic. Grounds we're very clean. Hotel staff we're excellent. Only a couple off we we're happy about. Not enough plugs beside our bed for cellphones or sleep machines. Bed was very hard to sleep on. Sore back very morning. Thank you to the maintenance staff for making a long cord for our sleep machines. Food was excellent from the buffet and the steak Restaurants. Japanese Restaurant was very good. Drinks we're a little watered down. There need's to be more Entertainment at night. Not enough going on after 11:00 pm. Resort need's a night Club. Our stay was from October 31- November 13th 2023

A relaxed vacation with a caring staff
If you think a five-star resort is a Ritz-Carlton or something similar, this isn't for you. But it's got beautiful pools (in an "adults only" section, where we were, an Infiniti Pool), lots of restaurants, a nice beach and, most importantly, a staff that truly makes you feel like a guest. Special shout-outs to the Guest Experience staff for the Junior Suite Deluxe Oceanfront buildings (we were #82), Mariana, Carolina and Cesar and, when there were glitches, to Luis at the front desk. Having said that, set expectations. For instance, reserve restaurant meals as soon as they permit. There are four resorts, with close to 3,000 rooms, and reservations fill up. Restaurants vary in quality: the Mediterraneo was excellent food and service (thanks, Cesar); Mikado, served alleged Pad Thai that tasted like a Chinese take-out place dumped soy sauce on noodles and green paper. Read lots of reviews. Yum restaurant is a cafeteria with an enormous selection of food. Breakfast at Kapok near our building was a diverse buffet, with everything from tropical fruit to eggs, meat, etc., though I don't think anyone chose the beet juice. At all restaurants, drinks are free, as are snacks and coffee, such as a cappuccino place in the lobby. The tour I took from the vendor in the hotel lobby to snorkel with the turtles at Akumal was convenient to access and a terrific experience. However, the directions to the meeting place were so skimpy ("Go left from the pool," with no guidance on how long a walk) that I almost missed the tour. Meanwhile, iIf the biggest luxury is silence, there was a constant playing of rap and drum-beat music in all the pools. (Hint: The "adults only" luxury crowd was not that age group, though staff was.) Beach near us was rocky; a different beach does not. Nice views of fish and pelicans in shallow water.. Our room was clean and comfortable, but be aware that two twin beds (a bit larger than standard) are often what you'll get, and that "ocean view" may require looking beyond a restaurant in front of you. With those caveats about realism, my wife and I would recommend this as a memorable, relaxing vacation spot, whether as a couple or with family, at an extremely reasonable price, with a caring staff, and without any pressure to spend on "extras" like wine or spa care.
