Not what you expect
I’ve never found such poor service & cleanliness at what is supposed to be 5*, which it most definitely isn’t. While the communal areas are updated the rooms are not. The food if you have any allergies is dangerous as don’t know what it is & labels are moved constantly. While the staff try their best they have no support from management & the Tui reps are none existent. If you book anything & pay in cash get a receipt & log everything dates times who etc as at the end they try & charge you again or for things you haven’t had.

Little bit of paradise 😍
After recently having a 12 day stay here I just thought I’d write a little review. Myself & my partner flew from Newcastle to Cancun airport. No problems with the flight. On arrival the airport was a little busy and we had around a 30 minute wait for luggage which was to be expected. Transfer was around 90 minutes but roads were busy. Arrived at the hotel & greeted by the lovely Jose, from arriving to leaving he was so kind and helpful for us. Lovely guy. Check in was no problem. We stayed in villa 64 which was 2 minutes from the infinity pool. Room was a little dated but that didn’t bother us. It was clean and very spacious. Mini fridge was stocked up every day and maid cleaned every day. Ordered room service and food was lovely. On arrival there was a banner across the door as it was my birthday and a nice bottle of Prosecco on ice in the room. A lovely gesture. No complaints at all. We booked our al a cartes via the app 10 days prior to arrival with no problems at all. Managed to book all 10 which we wanted. Our favourites were Alux, Le tortuga, Makadi teppanyaki, don pablo & tequila. My least favourite was gran tortuga. Only because I don’t like meat on the bone or fat on meat but my partner liked it. We tried all the buffet restaurants and had not one complaint. My partner and I really enjoyed the seafood gala at Akumal. Grounds are very well kept and the staff worked their backsides off to keep it nice. Resident wildlife is lovely to see. Trolley buses were easily and readily available throughout our stay. Pools were very nice and well maintained at all hotels. Never had any problems getting a bed by any of the pools. Entertainment team work extremley hard and non stop. Sports bar was always busy but we had no problem getting drinks. We went to the 24 hour snack bar most nights on the way home and the raccoons and Coates joined us 😊. Staff were also very lovely in there. Beach was very clean and well kept and drinks also readily available there. Went down the hacienda a few nights which was also nice. Only thing I would say wasn’t very good was the price of the inflatables for the pool ( 60 dollars for some inflatables) but I took my own so not really a complaint from me. I would advise anyone to buy inflatables before you go. Also therma cups are expensive but again we took our own. We also took snacks for in the room such as crisps sweets etc as they are also a bit pricey. We did turtle snorkelling at Akumal bay with Darwin. One of the best experiences I’ve ever had. And we loved the VIP catamaran to Isla mujere. Overall we had a fabulous holiday & will definately return in the future. Well done team Akumal ♥️Anyone that would like to ask anything go for it and if I can help I will 😊

Resort has gone downhill
Resort has gone downhill. Staff were great and you didn’t have to wait in long lines for drinks, etc. Food lacked variety in buffets. Drinks weren’t great . We were a family group of 12 people and the App only lets you book a la cartes for your own room, even though it says you can add others. Restaurants had limited availability when we tried to book 10 days prior to our trip. Some had no availability. We were told that people who are “Members” (Not loyalty members) get priority. Room was old and dated and noise carried. (Some rooms are nicer than others) Towels were like sandpaper. 2 days with no housekeeping. Pools were nice and clean. We always found chairs. Except in the lobby - need to put a bar and seating in the lobby. Staff work hard to keep the resort clean but maintenance is definitely needed. It rained while we were there and a lot of ceilings were leaking. Some to the point that sections of drywall were collapsing. Used to be a 5 star resort. Not anymore.

Bahia Principe Mexico
Poor maintenance, phone did not work, only 2 electric outlets and only one worked. No longer a 5 star barely pushing a 3 star. Free transportation to and from the airport very unreliable and can be costly when they screw it up. Lots of apologies but no action.

they got the room right by the 4th one
The resort is a big sprawling place, so expect to spend a fair bit of time waiting for a golf cart/trolley to pick you up and take you around the resort. Food was generally very good, alcohol drinks were hit and miss as it really depends on the bartender you get as to how good the drinks were. Orange juice mimosas for instance were bad everywhere since they don’t use fresh squeezed orange juice. Rooms, well, to keep it short, by the 4th one they got it right. But no one should have to change rooms 4 times in a week to get a decent room.
