The Longboard Team Made Our Stay Unforgettable
Stayed November 2025 Location The location couldn’t be better. We were directly across from a clean, family-friendly stretch of Waikiki Beach, and the immediate area felt safe at all hours, even with three young children. Compared to some nearby hotels where the sidewalk environment can feel inconsistent, this property sits in one of the nicer pockets of town. Being able to walk out the door and immediately be somewhere pleasant made a real difference for our trip. Atmosphere The hotel carries a genuine 4–5-star atmosphere. The lobby and main areas are organized, modern, and welcoming. Staff across the board were kind and warm, and the check-in/check-out process ran exactly as expected. You feel the effort that has gone into making the public spaces inviting. Rooms The rooms themselves fall short of true luxury. They feel more like a solid 3.5–4-star standard. Functionally, several elements could be more intuitive. The bathroom door and toilet placement is awkward (only inches of clearance). The bathroom light reaches the bed at night. Curtains are manual instead of automatic. The in-room table is set too high relative to the chairs, which creates poor posture. This same table-chair mismatch repeated across multiple dining areas in the hotel. Overall, the rooms are clean but could use a design refresh to align with the atmosphere of the rest of the property. Value For what you get, the value is strong. Having breakfast and dinner included each day helped us plan our hikes, beach time, pool visits, and zoo trips as a family. We booked through the Amex Hotel Collection and called ahead to ask about securing an upgrade. We were told it was best to handle upon arrival. At check-in we were told no upgrades were available. It’s understandable when a hotel is fully booked, but the situation felt preventable with clearer communication beforehand. My sense is that an upgrade was unlikely to be offered, regardless of availability. That said, the overall package still felt worth it. Cleanliness Every part of the hotel was spotless. Public areas, walkways, elevators, and dining spaces were consistently clean. Housekeeping did an excellent job. Noise Most of the stay was quiet, with one exception outside the hotel’s control. On the first evening, there were frequent fire trucks and ambulances passing downtown. It highlighted how different the experience would be in a quieter part of the island, but again, not something the hotel caused. Inside the building, noise was never an issue. Service This is where the hotel truly shines. Three individuals made our trip unforgettable. Chef William at the Longboard set a new standard for hospitality. Every night, he gave our three daughters white flowers for their hair. He accommodated our allergy needs without hesitation. He listened to our conversations and offered helping stories, ideas, and tips that improved our trip. On our sixth day, our girls asked for a family photo with him before we left. That moment alone captured the impact he had. Belle and Anson, also in the Longboard, were exceptional. Both have been with the hotel for 25–30 years, and it shows. Their warmth, steadiness, and presence created a feeling of home for us. They embody what guest-first service looks like at its highest level. As a CEO of an EdTech company, I understand how difficult it is for customer-facing employees to consistently represent the culture and values of a business. These three are not only aligned with the hotel’s mission. They are the clearest expression of it. They should be training new staff and helping shape the customer-experience standards of the property. The Longboard team is the reason we would choose to return. One service issue did prevent us from giving a perfect score: it took four hours to receive a single roll of toilet paper for our room. With small children (including a 10-month-old), basics like that cannot be delayed. My wife eventually purchased our own. It didn’t overshadow the stay thanks to the Longboard team, but it shouldn’t happen at any level of hotel. Amenities We used nearly every amenity available and enjoyed each one. • The education offerings were fantastic. Our daughters loved the lei-making and hula lessons, especially working with James. • My wife had a massage with one of the Japanese therapists and said it was one of the best she’s ever had. • She also enjoyed morning yoga and the space it created for her. • Longboard meals were a cornerstone of our stay. • The hot tub and pools were clean and relaxing. • The Beach Candy credits (chairs and umbrellas included daily) made beach days effortless. • We even did the aquarium feeding inside the hotel, which our kids loved. The amenities are a true bright spot and one of the most compelling reasons we would consider staying again. ⸻ Final Thoughts ‘Alohilani has an incredible location, great atmosphere, strong amenities, and a front-of-house team at the Longboard that sets the bar for hospitality. The rooms and certain operational details need refinement, but the service we experienced from Chef William, Belle, and Anson turned this stay into something special. Without them, we likely wouldn’t return. Because of them, we will.

It's ok. Very pretty on the outside. Bell hops are super nice.
The entryway and amenities are nice. The rooms could use an upgrade to match the rest of the hotel. 5th floor bar/pool/jacuzzi/lounge is nice but gets a bit crowded. Beds are fine, pillows deflate so your neck ends up in a decline. Also my wife and I thought each other's hair smelled funny after sleeping in the bed the first night.
