One of My Better Choices!
This was one of the better choices I have made during my travels. On a flight back to PHX from AUS we had a 27 hour layover in Honolulu. I booked this fabulous hotel for the night using my Bonvoy points and it was one of the highlights of our 3 week trip. We got off our long flight from Sydney and arrived at this hotel to a wonderful check-in experience. They were able to get us into our room early, so we dropped our luggage and spent the most relaxing day on the beach reading and decompressing from our whirlwind trip. The food we ate, the atmosphere, and everything about this hotel was just what the doctor ordered. It is walking distance from great shopping and restaurants, and the beach was great! I highly recommend this hotel. I especially recommend it if you are wanting to treat yourself during a layover.

Not a luxury collection
The hotel is old (they call it historic) and not even close to a luxury collection. The rooms and the bathrooms need a major renovation. One guest checking in - now checking out , claimed that she had a termite infested room. The $52 resort fee is a rip off, as you still get charged $74 for 2 beach chairs and an umbrella. Not enough pool lounges, so you better get down there by 1000am. Gym is tiny and an afterthought as is the spa. It does have a great location. As a titanium Bonvoy member, I used my suite night upgrades and only got a corner room. They wanted $500 per night for an actual suite. Against the spirit of the reward program. Blow this palce up and rebuild it.

Not here for the food but also literally cannot eat here.
Not here for the food but also literally cannot eat here. This being said I have soy allergies. They say they can make accommodations however literally everything comes processed and nothing is prepared in house. I have been using my room charging privileges at the neighbor property Moana Surfrider westin. (Fyi there are about 5-6 privately owned Marriott properties here including Sheraton and the Westin/ Royal hotel) Ive eaten here almost everyday for lunch since my arrival and every time have told my server of my soy allergies. Earlier in my stay the chef came out to my table that was on duty and told me that my steak is soy free because of the soy free tamari sauce they use for the marinade. I loved this dish and that the chef took time to make this contact with me about my allergies. It comes with some cabbage confetti and kim che and the steak. I ordered the same dish about 3 days in a row for my lunches and around third time i made my server aware if he asked or not that my soy allergies should be made aware of in kitchen. Randomly there was a new topping to the steak that included the toppinod. So I asked about it and of course it had soy in the toppinod. They remade it. Come to today and I’ve probably had this dish 6 times or so and I’ve reordered it and today with the help of the floor manager that the kim che which ive had on my plate every time has had soy in it. In another scenario while eating at surf lani for breakfast, I made both the floor manager and my server aware of my soy allergies. My food comes and the server brought me soy sauce packets for my food.

Poolside Fills Up EARLY!!!
How early do you want to get up to get a lounger at the pool? Based upon my last three stays at the Royal Hawaiian, the pool side loungers start to get staked out by guests as early as 6/6:30. Given that the pool is small, if you want to sit in a prime spot, set your alarm EARLY! The week from Christmas to New Years seemed to get full earlier and earlier. Even now in February, the loungers fill up early.

Poor customer service
Rented beach chairs terrible customer service with the manger in charge of the rental . He is obnoxious and rude. Not acceptable and unfortunate for a hotel that prides itself with higher standards , and high customer service. . Was planning to stay next year for my business trip no way .
