Book the Garden Suite
Finally had the opportunity to to stay at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. The hotel and service did not disappoint. We stayed in the Apaka suite, garden view in the historical wing. The general manager, Benjamin from Florida, was extremely accommodating. The room was spacious, with beautiful views of the ocean partially and hotel entrance. Valet service exceptional, the men would bring our car timely each time we requested it. Highly recommend staying here and can’t wait to come back.

The Pinnacle of Hotels in Waikiki
OMG, this hotel had to be one of the most fabulous properties I've ever seen. This rivals the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego which I thought was the tops. We had a perfect drink in the Mai Tai Bar at beachside. OMG delicious cocktail. Inside the hotel was a perfect blend of tropical and modern so as to make you fell so cosseted. As twilight fell, pink LED lights across the property illuminated the HUGE trees and flowering plants. Absolutely magical.

Great hotel choice in Waikiki - but rooms a bit dated (and not in a historic way)
This was our first stay at the RH. We have always stayed right next door at the Sheraton Waikiki. We love the remodeled/modern rooms at the Sheraton, but it can be a bit crazy & loud and full of little kids. We had wanted to try the RH, which always seemed a bit less busy and loud. We had booked a 2 bedroom suite in the historic wing. Room was really large - but the couch didn't pull out - so needed to get 2 rollaway beds - for our teen daughters - which added $300 / night. The suites at the Sheraton had sofas that pulled out. Also, the bathroom was incredibly tiny - almost laughable. It definitely needs to get some modern upgrades or no one will want to stay there - especially given the high charges for resort fees, parking, food, and nightly rates. Had a great experience, but not sure we'd return - unless rooms get a major upgrade.

The Crown Jewel of Waikīkī
The Royal Hawaiian Hotel is the Crown Jewel of Waikiki! The Lawns are Green, Vegetation Lush and Ocean Water Sparkled of Crystal Blue! The Fragrant aromas embrace you as if all of Hawaii is giving you a hug. There is no place more beautiful or centrally located than this Pink Palace! My Parents, Brother and I stayed here for 1 Week in the Historic Rooms and my experiences are as follows. Nicely appointed rooms, Fairly updated Flatscreens. Internet was a bit slow when I paired Netflix to our tv but we managed. We did have a mini fridge which was convenient. I Loved that the Windows opened to our rooms it was such a nice touch! I also found our room to be quiet and the bedding comfortable. The bathroom was small and if you have lots of toiletry items you might have to get creative. I want to take a moment and say that the housekeeping staff at this hotel are far beyond 5 stars! Every morning I would Step out of the room and they would greet me by name and while we were out having breakfast, they would completely clean our rooms. When we would go out in the evening, even if it was just for an hour, we would come back and our beds would be turned down for the night. Every time they came into the room, we had fresh towels and a clean room! I am not sure how they kept up with this. It was almost like magic! There were a few things I believe could be improved on and keep in mind I am not trying to be critical these are just my thoughts with my experience. When we first arrived late in the evening on the 31st the front desk staff member was polite, but there was no Aloha Welcome from him at least not the warm friendly spirit we might have anticipated. Also getting to the beach, even though the hotel is right on the Ocean proved to be confusing and a bit challenging. You had to either go through the restaurant or walk all the way down the hallway out the door to the pool area and maneuver through the chairs and tables to get there. In regards to the concierge staff, they seemed to be a bit all over the place and not as assertive when booking excursions. Almost as if they lacked confidence; You would think working for a world class hotel like the Royal Hawaiian and the weight that would carry they could get things done and get more accommodations made for their guest. On a side note my brother booked a surfing lesson with the hotel and he conveyed to me that the instructors and staff on site were fantastic! He loved every minute of it and they made him feel like a friend they’d had for years. One last thing, we did purchase the breakfast package and it was delicious and consistent every morning! Some wait staff are more by the book than others and I feel that for the price my parents were paying more accommodations should have been made with out hearing “No, that’s not part of the package or I can’t” this only happened on 2 occasions with one of the servers. Overall remember you are staying at The Royal Hawaiian Hotel a Historic and Beautiful place with a Rich History. Things on the Island operate a little differently and I can appreciate that! I would absolutely recommend this Hotel! 5 Stars!

Classy hotel with some issues
The Royal Hawaiian is indeed a "luxury" resort, and an oasis within the bustle of Waikiki. Prices are high, although Marriott Bonvoy members can sometimes get special offers. The hotel still has a decent beach (unlike many others on the strip), and the service is impeccable. Our Tower rooms were surprisingly basic (more like a Courtyard by Marriott), although the views are splendid. Beware long queues for breakfast, where hotel guests do not seem to get priority. The Azure Restaurant is overpriced. There can be a fair amount of noise pollution from the next-door hotel (loud music, etc.), although things quieten down after 10 pm. Inevitably, Honolulu is very expensive, meaning that the 20% tips are also higher than one might expect for equivalent service on the mainland; moreover, food options for vegetarians are somewhat limited. Watch out for the resort fee, too, unless it is somehow included in your package: you do not gain much for it. But we had a very pleasant stay.
