Feb 16, 2025Generally very good, with some annoying exceptions
First the good points: The location is great - a lovely bay and close to the beach and, being not too large a hotel, easy access to everything Staff generally very friendly and helpful. The exception being, strangely, the reception staff! Nice rooms and amenities, excellent housekeeping by Irma, our maid Nearly always a good selection of food in the buffet restaurants with helpful and always friendly servers, and nice atmosphere and service in the speciality restaurants Excellent and varied shows, especially the dancers (a special shout out to Daniela whose moves are always captivating)! Some areas for improvement: It is almost impossible to get a lounger in the shade unless you cheat by going out well before 7 and putting towels to "reserve" them - explicitly not allowed, but never policed. And just try to get a lounger on the beach under a palapa ... SMOKING! It is against the law to smoke in public places in Mexico. However, there are ashtrays everywhere and people smoking even on loungers. The crazy thing is that the two main designated smoking spots are directly outside the main bar and reception area and the prevailing winds blow that smoke into the area. As a couple allergic to such smoke, it made using the bar and sitting area very unpleasant at times. Re smoking away from "ashtray" areas - if alerted, the security staff always followed up - but never on their own initiative! While the rooms were always cleaned, the corridors in our wing towards the beach were always dirty with sand and debris The poolside bar seemed unable to make good margaritas or mojitos - plenty to drink, but not at all well done. The main bar was much better There was a surprising lack of Oaxacan food in the buffets - only one night with mole and 2 with tyaludas And, perhaps inevitable with a general family resort - constant noise from games in the resort. Really nowhere quiet at all by the beach - the right hand side away from the pool is bombarded by game noise from the resort next door (not the responsibility of Barcelo I know)

Fantastic
Best service I have had! Special care in washing and cutting hair! Offers beverages too for personal comfort! I would recommend getting your hair cut here. Can get a little hot when sitting there so water is a good thing to have. Very friendly service

Tortougas Restaurant
Ana Barragan at Tortougas is amazing! She always has a smile on her face and is very quick with service! The food here is very good for lunch and breakfast. It's nice to sit in the open air! The cooks are great and the coffee is good. All the staff are lovely!

Another Great Vacation at Barcelo
My husband I had a fantastic vacation in Huatulco. I believe this is our favorite Barceló property . The Premium is a must if you visit , we made use of all of extra services . Our room was looking over the ocean and we went to bed listening to the waves . The staff were all very nice and friendly and they were constantly doing work around the resort . They offered a special picnic on the beach service that was a little extra, but well worth the price . The catamaran ride is part of the al inclusive and that was an extra treat. I wanted to mention a few special staff members . Maribel and Irma in housekeeping , Omar in room-service, Tomas in the buffet . Marcel from our picnic and Adriana in the Agave restaurant . I wasn’t able to catch the girls names in the Premium lounge but they were sweet and friendly .
