Bad front desk
I am writing this review while waiting for check in It took so long for check in that we had to wait for more than 1.5 hours with small kids we tried pre check in it did not allow us due to their technical problems. So Due to my infant I asked to resolve it so we do not have to wait long due to my infant as we were arriving late but they did not resolve it and assured there will be good experience but what I see it was a terrible experience 😡😡

5/10 at best
We went to the royalton for a week as I was in a friends wedding. We arrived at 3pm (check in is at 3pm) and our room was not ready until after 5pm. The resort was dirty and very dated. The light switch in our room was hanging off the wall and our sheets were not changed once the entire stay. As far as the wedding goes, not one promise was met for the bride as far as the “wedding contract”. It was so unorganized and super disappointing. The food was mediocre. The best part of the resort was that the beer was cold lol

One and done
We have been to Cancun and surrounding areas multiple times. We rarely stay at the same resort more than once. We chose the Royalton for a few reasons. Close to airport ( 15 minutes), oceanfront rooms, number of restaurants, and adults only or at least adults only section or pool. I booked directly through the resort about 2 weeks before we went. We booked oceanview diamond club suite. I tried to pick are room online but it would not let me. When we arrived we were taken to the diamond club lounge to check in. (It is rather small and not a lot of amenities) We were pretty early so they told us to come back at 3 to get our room number and bracelets. We went and got a drink and some lunch and returned at 3 and were given our bracelets and taken to our room. It turned out to be facing the back of the Armadillo restaurant with a sliver of a view of the ocean. not acceptable so back we go to the diamond club lounge. We went through 3 people to try to solve out problem and ended up with a supervisor who, after an hour and a half said there was nothing he could do. He said he could move us to a better room on Sunday. We arrived on Wednesday. Again unacceptable. They have close to 1000 rooms here and there wasnt a king room with an oceanview? We even offered to pay to upgrade to the hideway area. No luck. We ended up with a double room facing the main stage with a little view. Needless to say we started off on the wrong foot. We were in the 600 building in a pretty good area. Close to the main lobby and restaurants and we were close to a quieter pool and beach area with a diamond club bar. Do not pay to reserve a cabana on the beach. They wanted over $100. We ended up talking to the pool guys at the towel stand. For $25 they set us up on a cabana on the beach. Beach was nice with little seaweed. you could walk either way for quite a distance. Everyday they had the towels ready on the beds for us. Best money we spent. Resturants were ok. Diamond club members could have breakfast at Agave which was mexican. Be prepared. It was a 6 course breakfast! Wait staff extremely nice. It was hard to get toast or a spoon but we survived. The only restaurant we did not eat at was the Caribbean. It did not open until 6:30. We like to eat early so we never made reservations and just walked in to all others. We did eat breakfast at the buffet most mornings. Try to sit in the side rooms since there was not as much sewer smell there. Buffet was amazing. I have never seen one with so much choice! Many stations to make eggs anyways you want. e did do the presentation for the "club" We told them they had one hour and we were gone. We got a couples massage for our time. They were not aggressive at all. Massages were great. Overall would we go back? no. There wasnt really anything outstanding to bring us back. The price was right but everything else was kind of blah.

Bad hotel room
When you purchase a room with an ocean view you would expect a room with an ocean view. After the 3rd room I gave up. I mean I could see the ocean if I leaned over my balcony, but the way the diamond club reception dealt with the issue was terrible. They insisted this is what the hotel considers ocean view an they could not give me any other type of room. Diamond club is also a joke. At best they had two people working in the reception and there was always a line of people waiting .. 2 out of 3 times to complain. Out butler would reach out every morning and evening, but other than making dinner reservations didn't do much for us. I asked for reservations at the spa and he kept telling me he will get back to me. On the 3rd day, I went and made them myself and let him no I no longer needed his services. I requested a later check out and they wanted to charge me $35 for the first 2 hours and then $20 for each hour after that. I told them I had been inconvenienced with the 3 room change, the least they could do I let me stay longer. Finally the day we were leaving, they told me I could stay for 1.5hrs at no charge (wow - thank you!) Our first room was fine, but we had a view of the diamond club pool. Still no ocean view Our second room was awful. The mirrors were speckled, the toilet was crooked and loose and I was later told by the the gentlemen who were in the diamond club reception also looking for an ocean view room that there were cockroaches in that room. Our third room faced the main pool ... it was loud during the day which I understand, but we had but no choice but to listen to the music every night until almost 11:30 because that was our view. very disappointed with the hotel, and the way they treat their guests. Last trip to the Royalton for sure

Honest review
We were worried about this hotel after reading the reviews, however it was not as bad as we had expected. We were in Block 7 facing the large round pool. The room was big and clean but initially smelt of stale water (after opening the patio doors and putting on the fan this was soon resolved) and in need of updating. Weather was great, high 20's every day. The food is very good and varied but the main restaurant had the same fusty smell near the toilets. We booked with Tui and the reps were great and helped us book the restaurants. Tappenyaki was the best. Not enough bar staff and the rules about who could have which drinks kept changing! I don't like the 'them and us' culture with the Diamond Club. The sunbeds are a joke when you have to get up before dawn to get them. There is room for more sunbeds, especially around the large round pool, so why not get more? People leaving towels on beds then going to the beach for the day..... The staff were mostly friendly and helpful. One guy at the swim up bar was quite rude when, on the 1st day I asked for a bottle of water. The beach is lovely for a daily walk. The entertainment was very good and if you can't get a seat you can always watch it from the Sports Bar or the balcony near the reception. We did a couple of trips through Tui which were great and overall we had a lovely holiday and would definitely go back to Mexico.
