Jan 25, 2025Not luxury anymore but could be.
I just want to start by saying that the majority of people we met or spoke to who worked at this hotel were polite, friendly, and happy to help. The rest were rude, unhelpful, unprofessional, and hostile. We stayed for 10 days in January, Diamond Club. The hotel is run down, it needs repair everywhere as leaks quiye bad when it rains. The concrete around the diamond club pool is cracked and has potholes. I've heard they are planning on closing for 2 months in the summer to do renovations. It is really needed. I can see that this place was beautiful in the past. The buffet restaurant has a lot of choice. I would advise getting food from the live cooking stations as it will be hot. The rest of it isn't. However, it is all tasty. The staff in this restaurant are lovely and polite and can not do enough for everyone. We also ate at the Italian, steakhouse and texmex and the food was OK. To say the Diamond Club came with upgraded features, I am at a loss as to where. Our first room was lovely, and our butler when we first met him seemed keen and friendly. We chose a bottle of spirit that was offered, and he assured us it would be delivered to the room. It took 4 days and 6 requests to get the bottle delivered. Another couple we overheard speaking to their butler had the same problem. It is almost like it is a prop, and if not chased, it doesn't appear. We asked for a hairdryer, and it took 4 requests. The Diamond Club pool is quiet, which is good, but if anyone tries to get a sunbed that isn't Diamond Club, they are told to leave and not in a polite way. The pool butlers are rude and hostile. I asked for 2 towels and was told 1 per person and the person I was with would have to get their own. Bizarre and utterly unnecessary. They would then have a conversation in Spanish and laugh, thinking they could not be understood. I understood. They were very hostile towards British people, which is quite upsetting, considering I treated them with respect despite how they treated us. The drinks are tasty but are certainly not the upgraded international spirits promised in the Diamond club package. At times, I am not sure there was any alcohol in the cocktails. I asked for a can of Pepsi. The barman poured the remainder of a can of Pepsi already opened on the bar into a glass and handed me it. I asked for a fresh unopened can from the fridge and I was faced with a dirty look and muttering under his breath and the can slammed down in front of me. I asked for a bottle of water at one of the pool bars and I was first asked "are you English?" I said yes, i was then told to go to my room and get a bottle of water out of my fridge. This made no sense and I was shocked I had been spoken to like this for being English. All of the issues I have mentioned above I told to my butler. So if the hotel reads this and wants to know why I didn't tell anyone, I did. Our room ceiling was leaking, we told the reception and we were moved within 2 hours. Ours wasn't the only room that leaked because of the heavy rain, so I do appreciate the speedy response to this to get us moved for the remainder of our holiday. The bell boys and the guy that gets you a taxi if needed are very helpful. The sunbed cushions are left out in the rain so they smell stagnant. The highlight of our holiday was the nice weather and the couple from Canada we made friends with. This place despite needing renovations would be better if all of their staff were friendly and happy to help. The rude, unprofessional hostile workers behind the bars at the Diamond Club and the Diamond club pool let you down massively.

JC and Teresa at Guest Services made our week with their personal touches, daily check in, reservations, and truly treating us like family and not just a job. I would recommend the Royalton Rivera Cancún if you are looking for a resort with great service, views, beach, food, amenities, and a wide range of entertainment.

Beautiful Resort with Major Service and Noise Issues
The Royalton Riviera Resort in Cancun is beautiful, with nice rooms and a lovely beach. The restaurants are great, but reservations through the app must be made two days in advance at midnight for the best options. Unfortunately, room service is unreliable. Even after speaking with guest services, who assured me my order would be a top priority, it still never arrived, and I wasn’t notified. While the rooms are cleaned well, noise from workers in the halls at night disrupted my sleep every night. There are also limited activities for bad weather. Overall, the resort has potential but needs improvement in service and noise management.

Great holiday made more special by the bar staff Francisco and Casemiro who work very hard to ensure your time is pleasurable. They both keep your glasses topped up working tirelessly throughout our full stay. Special guys made our holiday top notch. Thank you both until we return.

Beautiful Beach Wedding
We had our destination wedding in Cancun at the Royalton Riviera. Ilse was our wedding planner and we had a great experience working with her. She was very organized and thoughtful. She helped coordinate everything with our 34 guests that attended. Our beach wedding was everything we were wanting. My husband and I were very happy with our choice!
