    Loved this hotel

We took the whole family here for our 50th anniversary. The hotel is beautiful and has great amenities. The people who worked at the hotel were all so friendly and kind. Yes it was expensive but the whole family had a wonderful time. The grandkids loved the pool, the slide, and the ocean. We stayed in a Hokupaa Ocean View King with Lanai access. It was very spacious but could only accommodate 3 people at the most. The room and the view were amazing. Gigi and Mari Lou were the housekeepers and took excellent care of our room. They were very friendly and accommodating. Our daughter stayed in a Hokupaa Extended Lanai with 2 queen beds but with the 4 of them it was rather cramped. We would all meet in the Lanai for breakfast before heading to the pool. The bacon was a big hit. The Lanai offered various breakfast and drink options. You could probably just eat in the Lanai for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and not need to eat out if you didn’t have big appetites. The hotel was very close to Whaler’s Village which had several dining options and an ABC store if you wanted to stock up on snacks or drinks. Our granddaughter cried the day we were leaving because she had such an amazing time and didn’t want to leave.

Better options available for the money

Great location! Excellent service. Overpriced but worked for us. The food is pricey but elites get morning food credits daily. The cabanas are a HUGE waste of money. Regular pool service, no designated server, our towels were taken twice from the cabana. There is not good security for patrons and outsiders. Many people would walk in, take towels, but were not staying there. Especially in the afternoon. Rooms are small, we got two rooms for family of just three. (Definitely skip Luau and go to Sheraton)

The Westin Ka'anapali is a beautiful resort... just needs more onsite entertainment.

In true Westin fashion, great staff, clean and comfortable rooms and facilities, and beautiful beach... BUT we found the pools to be very cold, to the point were it was difficult to acclimate, which usually happens when you swim. Also, there needs to be more to do for teens/kids on site. The kids club was closed, but there could have been other things (ping pong, checkers, Jenga, etc.) There was an unusable shuffleboard table, no sand or pucks, so that was a bummer. Sometimes, you just need a break from the pool or beach. The beach excursions where also right on our beach, too (snorkeling, jet skis, etc.) which was very convenient. The Whalers Market is literally right around the corner, so very close. It is like an outdoor mall with high end stores, some booths selling local stuff, restaurants, and a food court type section. We loved the gelato place and Teazentea! Being at the Westin made getting to the Whalers market easy, but there is just so many times you can walk it at night without being bored (we were there for 8 days). When I first heard about the Whalers Market, I expected it to be different... I guess I wanted more local stores, not Louis Vuitton, or Lululemon, etc., but it is close and convenient. The restaurants had good food at both the Westin and in the Whalers Market area, but I feel like chicken nuggets/strips should be on the menu for kids, at any vacation spot. Maybe not a popular opinion, I don’t know. The pool menu did have it, but I couldn't get it anywhere else for them. We also did the Luau at the Westin, and it was a really good show. The drinks and food were ok, but my teen and pre teen preferred to go to the kids section for the food. Unfortunately, they didn’t love that either. Basic simple items for the kids would have been great here. I just wanted them to eat something substantial, especially for the price. They ended up eating lots of bread and fun non-alcoholic drinks. Honestly, I expected the food to be better, BUT the show was really fun! If you are going to stay at this Westin, do the upgrade to the Hokup'a tower if you can. The breakfast, snacks, soda's/juices, and small dinner option they include are truly good. This hotel was chosen for me by my travel agent, but because I am looking for hotels with more onsite entertainment when we are not doing excursions, I would choose this one again. But I do want to reiterate that the staff was wonderful and the hotel was comfortable, clean and the grounds were beautiful! The things that bother me wont bother everyone. We ultimately had a wonderful stay in Maui.

    Great Family Getaway Option

This is a very nice, well maintained, family-friendly property right by the beach. The inside of the property is very well done - with a waterfall and a pool with flamingoes etc. and even the entrance to the property and lobby areas are tastefully done - gives it an upscale look without being kitschy. Staff is friendly and the resturants are nice - and they make good Mai Tais at the bar. For us vegetarians, the veggie burger at Hale Mo'olelo was excellent! Onsite Starbucks and a grab & go Market were very convenient also. I liked the beach towel system which encouraged some responsibility without being inconvenient. Very nice pools. Wristband was easy to use and convenient for everything including parking. Access to activities like surfing and snorkelling is very convenient. Really liked the Westin Run program - Brad is a great running leader (and a a great bartender I might add). So why 4 stars and not 5? Main reason was that housekeeping was hit & miss. Soap and shampoo were not replaced even when empty. The safe was defective. The barn style doors to the bathrooms were glitchy at best. For the kind of top dollar they charge, they have to pull up their socks in this department - I mean, just follow a standard checklist and get it right. I didn't particularly like the shower fittings either - you have turn the shower on and get out of the way quickly before it gets to the temperature you want. Parking was another issue that jarred - $45 for self parking is rather usurious even though you know upfront what you're getting into. I get that they make margins on things like this - but keep it at a level that doesn't feel like daylight robbery. On the balance, still a great experience and we will consider coming back.

    Westin Maui

One of the best hotel I’ve been. It was gorgeous. The lobby is amazing with pink flamingos in a pond and dancers. You have access to a Starbucks and other cute restaurants and markets on the resort. We had a Hokupa’a room. It’s modern clean and with an amazing ocean view. Sunsets were spectacular. A small balcony for breakfast in the morning. Really comfortable. The pools were gorgeous and you get access to a private beach. With the Hokupa’a room you get also an access to a private club lounge which was also really nice.
