A letdown in paradise: management overhaul needed
Our time on the Big Island was wonderful; our time at your hotel was far from it. This was our second time staying at your hotel and it's very likely to be our last. As Bonvoy members, we expected so much more from this property, as well as the Marriott brand. The Marriott Waikoloa Beach hotel fell far short in so many inexcusable ways. First, the good: The location of your hotel is excellent and the beach is lovely. The folks in the restaurant and bar were kind and welcoming; housekeeping was friendly and exceptional. Our room was always cleaned by late morning/early afternoon, which we greatly appreciated. The bad: We arrived at the hotel after midnight, following an eight-hour flight delay. The smallest show of kindness would've gone a long way. Instead, we were met with curt, rude service from your front desk staff. She said nothing as we walked in and we didn't see her on the other end of the counter and were about to pick up the phone to call for assistance, at which point she angrily barked, "I'm here" as though our mere presence was an annoyance to her. The rooms were run down and very poorly maintained. The curtains were stained, the blanket on our bed was stained. The shower wand in the bathroom was covered in mineral build up and black mold, there was black mold around the shampoo bottles on the wall, the shower fixtures were covered in nasty mineral build up, and after one shower, the shower gel holder fell clean off the wall, nearly causing injury. We did not get a single good night of sleep due to the horrible noises coming from the HVAC. Every morning by 6am, we were awoken by the terrible banging noises coming from the A/C in our room. And sleeping in was an impossibility due to the ongoing construction taking place Monday-Friday, 9am to 6pm. We found a note on our desk notifying us of the ongoing (and very disruptive) construction at your hotel *after* checking into our room. Had we been notified of this construction, we would have chosen to stay elsewhere. It was a terrible bait and switch situation, nearly impossible to relax in our room for 8 hours each day. All in all, planning a trip to Hawaii is a very expensive venture. It's a once-in-a-lifetime trip for many and a poor stay at a run-down hotel can really put a damper on the experience. Marriott should be ashamed of their performance here. Our advice? Fire your management team at the Marriott Waikoloa Beach hotel. It's clear they're not doing their job well.

Wonderful stay at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott
Wonderful experience at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott. Location is perfect. Right on the beach at A-Bay. Easy walking distance to lots of great restaurants like Lava Lava Beach Club and Roy’s and great shopping at Kings and Queens shops. The Hawaii Calls restaurant at the resort was great for the breakfast buffet and taco Tuesday for dinner was delicious. Resort is in great shape. Rooms are in very good condition. It is definitely worth it to upgrade to an ocean front room. The grounds are beautiful and loved to just relax in the infinity pool. The sunset from the resort is beautiful. We rented a car and it was great to drive down to the volcano and to the many waterfalls on the windward side of the island. The staff is wonderful and really shows the Aloha spirit. A special shout out to Darlene and the concierge staff who do a great job with recommendations of restaurants and things to do. Another special shout out to aloha ambassador Kristy Walsh for all of her help. Already planning to come back.

Disappointing Room, Food/Staff hit or miss...
Pretty disappointing...We are kama'aina so maybe they don't care about us? I also bid and won this from a fundraiser for a school on Oahu...so maybe they don't care since it was a donation from them? I still spent a lot on the room and within the resort...should have just gone to the Hilton. Room was TERRIBLE. Painters Tap EVERYWHERE. Called the Operator and she told us it was due "EMERGENCY REPAIRS" so not sure why we were in there if there were emergencies! She told us not to remove any of it...what should have been removed was us! Terrible service from her...or anyone who decided this room should even be in use. Tape was coming off in the bathroom and sticky. I'm surprised they put anyone in a room like that. No guarantees the baby didn't pull off any tape... Room interior strange - there is an opaque window "headboard" between the bed and the bathroom. So if you turn on the light in the bathroom, the whole room lights up. When a baby is sleeping in there, that means you pee in the dark. Asked for a crib and a pack n play showed up quickly. I was strollering the baby backwards into the room when the worker showed up with it. No attempt to hold the door or anything. Asked me if I can set it up...said not sure since I couldn't really see it. I felt like I was inconveniencing him and luckily my husband showed up and said he would do it. I'm not used to workers not automatically setting it up...and even WANTING to do it and make life eaiser. I felt so rushed and had my hands full so I didn't have a chance to give him a tip...not that he really deserved it. Room service menu very small...and felt like Uber Eats type deal. Food came in take out containers in a paper bag with plastic to-go utensils. Definitely a 1-star dining experience. Salad lettuce not chopped, so good luck finding a way to cut it in the plastic bowl that doesn't have a wide solid base. Ended up not eating it and just tossing it. Hubs did like the cornbread...I thought was too sweet. Pasta pretty tasty but a piece of bread would have been a nice touch. $150 for this...would have been cheaper and better plating anywhere else. We ate breakfast buffet 2x...omelet station worker awesome. Even delivered it. Waitstaff pretty on it. 1st day person was a lot better than 2nd. Food was okay. Had the prime and crab buffet...not bad. That was good. Opakapaka was soooo dry. Need to do something about the birds..shoot um. Almost got nailed a couple times and they were on the prowl. NAAAASTY. Saw the tree they live in. Kukae everywhere. Ate at the pool the rest of the times. Tempura platter not good. Ika batter raw, Fish overcooked, Shrimp was frozen kine. Grilled cheese was good. Wings pretty good. Baby liked the smoothies. Other than that the staff was good. Most people nice and helpful. Pool workers were the best... Probably my least favorite Waikoloa and also Marriott experience...

Very tied hotel! Unfriendly staff.
Am Marriott gold member and this hotel is one of their sub-par locations. Rooms were tied, nightstands were behind headboard? 3 plumbing issues. No decent restaurants. Staff not friendly at all! Only thing going for it is nice beach... Would not recommend!

Beautiful
Thank you, Elizabeth! We enjoyed our Hale Suite. Beautiful grounds - very well maintained. Pleasant staff. Food in the only restaurant on-site was for the most part good, however, the service was always very slow. Very aggravating that although there were always a lot of empty tables for breakfast, a lot of them were not cleared quickly so the birds were feeding on the tables and always a wait to be seated. The breakfast buffet was initially good but noticed the quality of food started to decline. Also noticed the housekeeping staff started to rush through the daily upkeep of our suite. The shower floor wasn't cleaned, the body wash wasn't refilled (it was empty still after being serviced), kleenex wasn't replenished. A few hiccups from the property but overall still enjoyed.
