WHY NOT TO STAY IN KALIA TOWER
We LOVE the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort, stay there annually, and have stayed in all the towers. We've enjoyed staying in (almost) all of them, especially Ali'i and Grand Islander. Our most recent stay was in Kalia Tower. Here are 25 reasons not to stay there. 1. The tower is older and not updated. 2. Our room had lots of wall plugs but no USB ports. 3. We asked for an office chair, which they would not provide. 4. We asked for a hassock or footstool; they declined. 5. The carpet was stained. 6. The upholstery was stained. 7. The love seat was old, saggy and lumpy. 8. There was no microwave oven. 9. There is a Starbucks in the lobby but the coffee in the room was not from Starbucks. 10. The in-room coffee was "10% Hawaiian" and the other 90% being presumably stable sweepings. 11. They provided powdered coffee creamer instead of liquid half-and-half. 12. There were only two tiny waste baskets; the room needed at least three. 13. There was bird poop all over the room's lanai. 14. There was no screen on the lanai door, inviting bugs and bold birds into the room. 15. There was a single bathroom sink for two people. 16. There was one handrail in the shower-tub; none alongside the toilet. 17. The toilet was at an elevation ideal for Munchkins. 18. There was no bidet. 19. The woodwork in the bathroom was chipped. 20. The hotel is non-smoking yet dense clouds of marijuana smoke wafted through the lanai every evening. 21. The tower has its own swimming pool; there were ducks swimming in it. 22. There was neither a locker room nor showers adjacent to the pool. 23. Guests' trash was left in the pool area; no one appeared to clean it up. 24. The very pleasant front-desk staff were primarily interested in selling timeshares. 25. There were no flowers in the room, no pillow mints, and no turn-down service. Is this really a Hilton property?

OLD and WORN OUT. Disappointing. Rainbow Tower Room 1602
OLD and TIRED hotel resort. High mileage and poorly maintained. The hotel room has worn out old carpet. The power outlets are outdated (no power adapters for USB cords). The beds are thin, old, and uncomfortable. The bedsheets are visibly dirty, faded, and worn-out on the edges. The heat/air vents are loud. The TV is outdated without any options for streaming. They still have DVD players attached to the TVs. The service is ok, but visibly spread thin. Most employees are walking away while they answer your questions for help or direction. Instead of taking you where you need to go, they simply point to the direction- usually general direction instead of specific. The food at Tropics Bar is overpriced and terrible. I would suggest you take a 15 minute walk to the mall and get an excellent option with reasonable pricing. The lagoon is the positive aspect if you have kids. Otherwise, this Hitlon hotel resort was a disappointment.

Ok (remember you’re on Waikīkī beach!)
We’ve just come back from 9 nights here, having chosen to upgrade to the Ali tower due to the private pool and reviews on how busy the other pools are. Overall the place is tired and in need of some updating. The pool area was particularly disappointing - a 15 storey building, 34 sunbeds and 7 umbrellas, one of which has a big tear in. The sun bed reserving is bad and even though there’s a notice to say any items left on sunbeds will be removed after an hour, this doesn’t happen. So unless you try and beat people at their own game, you won’t find a space after around 10 and some are there before the pool is supposed to open at 0800. The pool itself is small and in poor condition with lots areas where tiles have fallen off and it’s been patched over. There is some kind of white build up all around the edge too. The bar is open from 1100 - 1700 and outside of these times there are no alternatives to get a drink without leaving the tower. The food menu is limited. The pool closes at 1800 (others on the site remain open into the night) and it would be nice for drinks to be available for longer. There is a good selection of drinks and the cocktails are very good, as is the service. On our last day the Mixbar closed at 1600 for a private function which wasn’t communicated until much later in the day, when a notice appeared after lunch. Disappointing, considering you have paid for a private pool and bar facility. You’re given a wristband to identify you’re staying in the tower but there were a lot of people either not wearing them or coming from other areas of the hotel to use the pool? None of the staff ever seem to check if people should be there or not! The U.S. military seem to have unlimited access to the complex. My husband is a veteran so this is great but when you’ve paid for what you think is going to be a quieter more space, the general noise and volume of some personnel leaves a little to be desired. The same can be said if you’re expecting it be mostly an adults area - there are plenty of children in a relatively small pool. The cleaning staff were great and our room was well maintained for the whole time we were there. We were given an early check in and an ocean view room for a very small minimal charge, which was fantastic (thank you!). Friday night fireworks are amazing! There are some really good restaurants within the complex (particularly the Bali one - fabulous) but it’s worth getting out and about as there are loads of other great places to eat and drink outside of the complex. It’s is a pricey place but the complex has a couple of ABC shops and Starbucks, a deli, takeaway pizza place if you’re looking for more affordable options. There are plenty of shops in general - you really don’t need to leave the complex if you don’t want to. We had a wonderful holiday and loved Oahu (get out and explore the island!) but as long as people continue to book and with the idyllic location, I doubt anything will change with the pool area

Went Beyond our Expectations
My girlfriend and I stayed for 6 nights at the Ali’i tower and we absolutely loved it. Special thanks to Gary in the front desk or providing us an amazing front row view of the beach, ocean, and firework showcase. Our room was continuously well kept, clean, and stocked by the housekeeping staff. Hilton did a great job catering to our needs and quickly responding to our questions. We would love to come here again in the future. Despite the price being quite steep, it is fitting for how great of an experience we had.

Beyond excellent guest service!
Clair S and Hye Young at the front desk were beyond excellent! If I could give 5+ stars I would. They assisted us in checking in, showing us to our room, and booking a spa treatment. Even though the hotel was busy, we never felt rushed. Mahalo!
