Wanted to love it, but noise & slow/unresponsive service soured the experience.
We traveled as a couple for a getaway at the end of February 2025 and had an **okay** time at this resort. After a long travel day getting to the hotel, we arrived along with a group of about 12 others who had taken the same ferry, and would have loved for there to be additional staff available to check us in (I believe there were 2 staff checking people in). Some of the other guests took the opportunity to ask lots of questions during their check-in, since part of the check-in process involves the staff member walking through brochures and maps and explaining all the food options, etc. It is of course within the guests' rights to take their time and ask questions, but it took kind of a long time to be able to check in. We stayed in a King Bed Garden Cottage, and I would describe the room as a rustic beach cottage. We were VERY surprised to realize that there was no glass on the windows! There were just screens and wood shutters, which meant that we could hear...everything (even with white noise machines and earplugs). The cottage next to us was about 8 feet away, and the occupants came home at 12:30am and started blaring music and talking at the top of their lungs, which jolted my husband and me awake. After a few minutes, my husband stepped onto our porch and asked them to turn off the music, which they were annoyed by. They continued to talk loudly for another 30 minutes, at which point I called the front desk and they said they would send security by to ask them to keep it down (one way or another, after about 10 minutes, the noise stopped). The next morning, we went to the front desk and asked about being relocated, and we specifically asked if we could be moved somewhere next to empty cottages, which they were able to accommodate, so we moved all our stuff to a new location. The new location helped greatly, HOWEVER, we were again jolted awake at - no joke - 7 am sharp every subsequent (except for Sunday) by very loud jackhammering/construction noises that were happening about 20 feet away. We ended up adjusting our sleep/wake schedules so that we would get up at 7 anyway since there was no way we could sleep through the construction noise. On our 3rd day, I called the front desk around 5pm to request refreshed towels, but the towels never arrived that night. The next morning, I called again right after waking up and asked if it would be possible to receive them in the next hour since I was planning to shower before heading out for the day, and they assured me they would deliver them right away (they did not). Mid-afternoon, my husband asked at the front desk if they could deliver new towels to our room, and they assured us that they would bring them right away. About an hour later, there was a knock on the door, and my husband was surprised to see our server from the poolside at the door, telling him that he hadn't signed his bill. My husband said "My wife is still at the pool in the same spot" (which I was!). My husband was pretty irritated at that point, and told the server we'd been promised clean towels no less than 3 times, and yet the staff was willing to chase him down all the way to his room when they thought he hadn't signed his bill. The server must have notified the front desk immediately, because about 10 minutes later, the towels finally arrived!!! 24 hours and 4 requests later. Every morning, we took the first shuttle boat to the Beach Club, which was overall very nice. However, we almost always had to flag down our server to order more drinks/food. It was usually at least an hour between visits from our server, so keep that in mind! They had 2 servers working to serve ~100 guests, and I was surprised to find that there was NO bartender! The servers were the ones taking orders and also making the drinks, which seemed very inefficient. I learned that because at one point, I just walked to the bar area to order since it had been over an hour since our server had come by. There was also, unfortunately, construction going on at the Beach Club, so we were laughing that even though we were at the very far end of the beach, they were literally pile-driving metal rods into the ground right behind our beach chairs. I did enjoy the food and drinks at the Beach Club, though! Overall, we would not choose to stay at this hotel again. Although the staff members were nice, we did not find it relaxing to have to constantly flag someone down or follow up repeatedly for very basic service. I had received Hilton Diamond status as a Hilton AMEX sign up benefit, and I thought maybe it would improve our experience (like one of the benefits is supposed to be getting upgraded to a nicer room if one is available), but this was never mentioned (though I didn't specifically ask about it, to be fair). We only take about 1 trip a year, and often use Airbnb or VRBO, but after some bad experiences recently, we've been leaning more towards hotels, but this one didn't really cut the cake for us, which was disappointing, since I expected more from a Hilton resort property.

not bad! some suggestions
Overall, Magogany Bay was a good experience. The property is safe and beautiful! There weren't many visitors at the resort during our stay, as we heard that business is slow in May, so it was quiet and relaxing. However, something that confused us was the discrepancies between the website and the actual experience. For example, on the website, it says that the sushi bar is open from 11 am-9:30 pm, for lunch and dinner. Of the 4 days we stayed here, this restaurant was closed every day until Saturday at 5 pm - where, when we finally thought we would get to go - we got denied because of a private event. Here is another example: the website does not specify when the fitness center opens. It was very surprising when the front desk informed us that the gym would be closed Thursday and Friday...all day. That's half of our trip. Lastly, the concierge did not respond to our email about reserving a beach cabana (as it says on the website to do). When we come to check in, the front desk tells us that it is because the beach club is closed on Tuesdays. That's okay, but the lack of correspondence was frustrating. Turns out, the cabanas were first-come first-serve. I would suggest that the website reflect any adjustments with amenities. The front desk was generally not hospitable, no greeting upon arrival or even a smile from the woman checking us in. The serving staff and poolside bartenders were amazing, though! Alan was fantastic. Our room was nice and we had a great time overall.

Amazing Stay
My husband and I loved our stay at the Mahogany Bay Resort. The Private Beach Club was the best part. It’s about a 15-minute water taxi ride to the resort's private beach club. We enjoyed overwater hammocks, cabanas, and a bar and restaurant. The beach access is beautiful and clear blue. Our cottage was very comfortable and clean. The bedding was comfortable and the room stayed cool with the fan and AC. We took advantage of a few dining options, at the beach club, by the pool, and a two of the breakfast places. There were plenty of options. All the staff was amazing.

Very relaxing!
The resort itself was very spacious and it was near the private beach, which we loved! We have eaten at The Pool Club. I’ve had their pasta that included cheese and bacon with a side of grilled shrimp. Their toasted bread and dip was so delicious! I loved the rose gold utensils and table decor as well!

Unforgettable Hospitality at Mahogany Bay Resort – Thanks to Ivira, Gilmer, and Jasmine!
Unforgettable Hospitality at Mahogany Bay Resort – Thanks to Ivira, Gilmer, and Jasmine! Our stay at Mahogany Bay Resort in San Pedro, Belize, was nothing short of magical — and the credit goes in large part to the incredible team members who made our experience unforgettable: Ivira, Gilmer, and Jasmine. From the moment we arrived, Ivira greeted us with a warmth that immediately made us feel at home. Her attention to detail and genuine care ensured every part of our stay was seamless and enjoyable. She went above and beyond to accommodate our needs and always had a kind word and a bright smile. Gilmer was the epitome of island hospitality. His knowledge of the area, infectious energy, and helpful recommendations made exploring San Pedro a true adventure. Whether it was organizing activities, providing local tips, or simply sharing a good conversation, Gilmer brought a special charm to every interaction. And then there’s Jasmine — an absolute gem. Her professionalism, grace, and consistent effort to make sure we had everything we needed were truly appreciated. Jasmine anticipated our needs before we even voiced them, and her positivity added an extra sparkle to our trip. The resort itself is stunning, but it’s the people who make Mahogany Bay a destination worth returning to again and again. Ivira, Gilmer, and Jasmine — thank you for treating us not just as guests, but as family. We can’t wait to come back!
