Jan 18, 2026Beautiful Property, but has some faults
Planet Hollywood Costa Rica is a lovely resort. The views are very beautiful, however it does have some downfalls. The resort is on a hill, you have to either take a golf cart up and down or walk. The golf carts run very frequently. Most food areas and check in are on the top of the steep hill and the pool area and beach are at the bottom. It is very steep. The pool area and beach are lovely. The chairs at the beach area are all in the shade, which is nice. The pool area has a lot of activities and it is loud…. Very loud!! Not that relaxing. Food at this resort is a problem. There isn’t enough restaurants to seat all the guest. If you don’t get a reservation, you can always eat at the buffet- which was very good. The reservation availability is hard to get if you are not a star class member. This is a Marriott property and they have a Marriott desk there. Unlike the PH property on Cancun, Marriott elite members got star class for free. Not here. As a Marriott elite member I was annoyed about this. I don’t think the extra money for a family of 4 was worth the star class. The lunch options are not good. They only thing by the pool are Guys Burgers- which are good despite other reviews or pizza. If you don’t want that you have to go all the way up the hill to the buffet. Would have like more options at the pool. There is a coffee shop called Fuel that has desserts , coffee and light sandwiches, but it closes at 6pm. The best restaurant we are in was Gusto, the Italian restaurant. The rooms are fine and the property is very well kept. We always saw people cleaning. Not too many products in the room, just extra shampoo and pumps shower products. We did have a very nice time, took an ATV tour through the hotel and another private tour. The staff was lovely and the night shows were good.

Rooms are huge and beautiful. Nothing beats hearing the nature first thing when you wake up at Planet Hollywood Costa Rica.Joaquim at front desk made my arrival smooth and quick. Always going above and beyond, this resort has been great ever time i have been there as I have been a few times already this year. I enjoy the spa and the smaller pool bar has Karolina and her team make sure we have everything we need.Drinks there are sensational. The staff goes above and beyond and it’s not because I am VIP , because I am not. They just treat people like they would like to be treated. And that goes a long way in my books. Bigger has everything one needs. I feel safe at all times at this resort. Thank you again and see you soon.

Resort was very nice! Food options on the buffet was our only thing that we were disappointed with. There were very few options for it to be an all inclusive. However, everything else was great! Our Butler Antonio made our trip the absolute best! He arranged to get decorations for my hubbys birthday! It was a wonderful touch to our vacation.

Overall a good resort, but some disappointments
The resort is beautiful and well kept. We were a large group of 18 people and they made the appropriate amount of fuss for our arrival. It’s fun that everyone gets a round of applause as they leave the red carpet upon entry. Guest services staff were all extremely polite. Perhaps sometimes things could have moved more efficiently. But not a big issue. Our rooms were all quite nice. Very spacious and clean. The reference to a fully stocked mini bar is not exactly accurate. There were 2 beers, some pop and juice and water. But there was never enough water for 2 people and getting more via room service always came with a debate. The pool area and bars were excellent. Always busy but not over crowded. We had many favourite bartenders at the pool/beach bar. Paola stands out in particular as she was always welcoming and remembered us from our arrival day. We enjoyed a day in two cabanas where Kevin set us up perfectly. He continued to respond quickly and pleasantly to our every whim. The buffet restaurant is decent. Especially for breakfast. Service staff were all very friendly and helpful. All of if the al a cart restaurants were decent with no one specific stand out. As mentioned, we were a large group and often found ourselves with two reservations of 2 or 4 people. Our requests to move two tables together were granted in the end. But not without being told no initially by hostesses and servers. It was interesting that it took asking a male server to resolve the request. We had one very disappointing dinner at the Steakhouse where the ‘manager’ on duty was rude and dismissive. There was really no opportunity to simply have a drink or night cap after 11pm. Only the sports bar remained open until 1am but was always loud. That being said we had fun night dancing until 1am one night with a very accommodating DJ and excellent bartender. Sorry to have not gotten their names. It was on January 8th. As mentioned all of the service staff were friendly but there was a distinct lack of representation of a general manager. When I asked to speak to a service manager about the incident we had at the steakhouse, I did speak to someone who was apologetic. But one of the front of house staff had to go get him. I feel that improved presence of leadership and some basic customs service and communication training would make Planet Hollywood a true five star destination.
