  A great experience - Beautiful Moana Wing; Great Staff; Great Food; Great Drinks

  Had the pleasure of staying in the Moana Wing of the resort with a beautiful view of the back side of Black Rock and unobstructed view of the sun setting on the water. It takes a little effort to get back and forth to this area from the poos/restaurants, but it was worth it. No stairs, unless you want to take the stairs. I highly recommend these ocean view rooms with balconies, building 6 specifically, and as far to the end of Black Rock as possible, floor 2 or higher. We stayed in room 6204 meaning building 6, floor 2, room 4 (the 4th room from the end). You can see the Black Rock jumpers from the back side of the rock. You'll also be able to watch the snorkelers who swim around Black Rock, where you'll see different and bigger fish. It's hard to beat both the beach and the snorkeling at Black Rock. The pool and pool temp is lovely. A little cool when you get in, but perfect to cool off under the hot sun. Lounge chairs are hard to come by so consider renting a Casabella (the double lounger with a shade canopy attached) on the website before you go. We booked ours for multiple days about a month ahead and we were really glad we did. Their positions are fixed and you can select the one you want when you make the reservation. Staff from the Mai Tai Bar take orders around the pool, which is really nice. The staff at this resort could not be nicer. From cleaning staff, to bar staff, to restaurants, really outstanding and helpful. We stayed here several years ago and were happy with our stay, but this was an even better experience. Notably, the food was exceptional this time. If you're into sushi, try the spicy tuna on crispy rice at the Sand Bar. We had to go back and order it multiple times over the course of our stay. Lots to choose from. We were impressed with food selections and quality everywhere. And the drinks were vacation deliciousness. Hint: If you like your Mai Tais strong, order them "Old Style." It's not on the menu. It's hard to imagine our stay could have been any better. We will definitely stay in the Moana wing again in the future. Can't wait for another visit.

  Beautiful resort and amazing hospitality!

  We had a wonderful time in Maui staying at Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa! It all started with the pre-arrival manager, Anjelica Cocson reaching out before we left home. We let her know we are a family of 3 with a 5 year old travelling for a babymoon. When we arrived at the beautiful resort, we were greeted with a goody bag with a stuffed honu, beach toys, and gifts in a pineapple shaped bag. We were also given a personalized card congratulating us on the babymoon and a plate of chocolate covered banana bread and pineapples! We were blown away by the hospitality at this resort. Everything was clean and comfortable and the location is amazing for water sports. We were able to enjoy the huge pool and snorkel right on the beach. We were able to see so many fish and turtles! All in all, we had an amazing time and would love to come back!

  Good Time. Quiet. Feels Like Home.

  First, let me start with the good stuff. Location, location, location! You cannot beat the location. Tucked into black rock, it is quiet, the beach is lovely, and the view is fantastic! Getting a spot on the beach was never a problem. We rented a couple of chairs and an umbrella twice and had no issue getting a good spot. The beach is soft and rock-free. The pool, bar, restrooms, and towel service were right behind us, which was easy access. The pool was quiet and very nice. It is two pools connected by a waterway. Some call it a lazy river, but it didn't flow. There was nothing river about it, but it was still nice. A decent-sized spa/hot tub was up a short staircase in the center section of the "river." On our first day, I rented one of the poolside Casabellas. Let me tell you, #23 is the best one there! It is on the river, across from a waterfall and the hot tub. The towel booth is behind you, and the bar is close by. It is secluded, as those things go, and very peaceful. The price was very reasonable ($60) for the day. I only wish someone had come around to take drink and snack orders. The bar was not far, but it would have been a nice touch. On our first night, we had dinner at the Coral Reef. The mai tais were outstanding, and the food was delicious. We sat outside and had a fabulous view. We enjoyed it very much. That was on a Monday night. The Coral Reef was not open again for dinner until Friday night. That was strange. There was almost nowhere else to eat at night at the resort. That was extremely disappointing. The main pool bar (the Cliff Dive Grill) was open for food until 8pm, but choices were limited. Now, Maui Brewing Company (restaurant) was a 4-5 minute walk and Whaler's Village, which has many shops and restaurants, was a 10 minute walk. So, it isn't like you would starve, but it was weird that a "resort" didn't have a real restaurant open. The Sheraton Luau was open almost every night and it was very well attended. So, you could also eat there (for a hefty price). Maybe it was just too lightly attended of a week? We stayed in a Moana Ocean front room with the best view we have ever had from a hotel. The top of black rock was to our left and we looked over a small cove with Lana'i and Moloka'i in the distance. The sunsets were excellent, and we saw whales, pods of dolphins, and monk seals from our balcony! We were there at the end of whale season. It was the most time we have spent on a balcony at a hotel. We had drinks and breakfast and played cards out there, looking at the awesome view! Now, the growth areas for the resort from our point of view: Being up on the cliffs was secluded and quiet. It also has its own self-parking lot at the top, which is less crowded than the main garage (even though it is much smaller). The journey from our room to the main resort was an adventure. Mind you, I knew all about it going in due to other visitors' reviews here on TripAdvisor, so we were not unhappy. However, it would have been unpleasant if the resort wasn't as empty as it was. We were on the 4th floor of the Moana Ocean Front Tower. We had to walk down the very long hall, go down a floor (elevator or stairs), take a bridge/walkway to the next building, go to the 8th floor, walk through another building to a third elevator to the 1st floor, spitting us out at the main pool. Phew... ;-) The entire week, we almost saw no other people in our building, and the journey from our room to the main resort usually took four and a half minutes. That is not bad at all. In some hotels, we have waited twice as long for the elevator! We also liked getting in our steps, so we didn't care. As I mentioned, if the place had more people and we had to wait for elevators or traverse long flights of stairs, it would have been less fun (but the view from the room would still have been worth it). There is a significant lack of nightlife and things happening after hours. As I mentioned above, the good news is that Whaler's Village is only a 10-minute walk away, and that place is jam-packed with nightlife. The walkway to Whaler's Village (and the Westin next door, which also has plenty to do) is not well-lit at the Sheraton side. One portion was pitch dark. That needs to be addressed, and I let the hotel staff know. The rest of the businesses along the walkway light it very well. Final Thoughts If you want a quiet, beautiful property with a fantastic beach, decent pool, and excellent location. This is your place! It is a stone's throw away from a major shopping and nightlife center. We took a sunset whale-watching dinner cruise right from Kaanapali Beach. There is snorkeling, scuba, and more right there. The Moana Ocean front rooms are well worth it. Lewis, who works at the Aqualani poolside concierge, is excellent! Helpful. Friendly. He goes out of his way to learn about you. The week would not have been as good without him. Anjelica, the Sheraton pre-arrivals manager, is also outstanding. I had several questions before the trip, and she didn't just answer them, but Anjelica made sure I was taken care of. Yes, it is her job to do that, but she is really good at her job. I can say enough about her and how she added to our experience. We enjoyed the Sheraton and would go back there again. We have also stayed at the Westin, just down the beach, and loved that Marriott property as well. The Westin makes you feel more pampered (for a price), but the Sheraton feels like home.

  Awful service, wonderful location

  Wonderful location & hotel but really poor service for the high price: Air condition in room was not working, had to get maintenance every day of our 3 days stay. No blackout curtains in room. Not enough beach chairs in pool area to get one after 11 a.m. And 2 beach chairs & 1 umbrella at the beach costs 100$ extra for hotel guests!!! But were booked out after 11 am as well. Furthermore drama about breakfast, that we've paid for but was only until 10am on Easter Sunday, but checkin said til 11am. When we asked friendly about these problems, staff was really unfriendly and didnt care, but eventually fixed it (except the beach chairs issue). The only friendly people were housekeeping and valet parking.

  Spring Break

  This was our third year in a row spending Spring Break at the Sheraton Maui, and I have to say, this trip was the best one yet! The location itself cannot be beat - right at Black Rock for snorkeling and swimming; and only about a 10min walk to Whaler's Village. The Sheraton seems to be spread out quite a bit compared to the other hotels south of Black Rock, which is a great feeling vs feeling like everything is crammed on top of each other. From the moment we arrived, everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Anjelica Cocson reached out before our arrival with helpful communication and even surprised us with a thoughtful welcome gift. Our room attendant, Inielda, was amazing! She treated my family with kindness throughout our stay. She always had a nice word to share and worked around our schedule to keep our room tidy without interrupting our plans. We also bumped into Amor T while wandering through the hotel. He genuinely checked in on us, asking how we were doing and what we had planned. It felt great to have such sincere conversations! Overall, it was an amazing experience filled with warm hospitality.
