Fantastic resort

Fantastic resort, beautiful venue, excellent food, friendly and professional staff, and the best massages we have ever had. My wife and I signed up for the 80 minute sports massages. We both said afterwards that it is the best massage we have ever had - better than the Hershey spa in Hershey PA, and better than the Peninsula in Bangkok to name a few. Michael was my wife’s masseuse and Dahlia mine. I believe this is the first time we got a true sports massage, even though other places claim to offer them. This was the real deal. Price wise it was comparable to other high end spas, and this one was worth every penny.

Spent the last two weeks of March at Zoetry - Montego Bay. This was possibly the best Caribbean resort we have experienced in 30 years of visiting the islands. I want to give this a 4.5 star rating but thats not possible. A couple of minor points make this an "almost perfect" resort. Starting with the negative: The property is right on the main road out of Montego Bay. Traffic noise starts about 7:00 am. We were in a room towards the rear of the property (closest to the road) and were somewhat effected by the noise. The resort is somewhat older and some of the rooms reflect this. The room we were in was similar to a standard "Holiday Inn" style room. That being said, the bathroom/shower area was updated and very nice and the balcony was a good size and a great place to enjoy the beautiful weather and scenery. The bed was very comfortable. There just wasn't a lot of extra space in the room. My understanding was that some of the Ocean View rooms have been updated and are larger. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The housekeeping staff were exceptional (3 visits a day - put the do not disturb sign out when in your room). Jets fly over fairly often. This is a reality with any property in Montego Bay area. No flights at night. It also means you are close to the city for the night life if you want it. The property is quite small so is limited in the activities that can be offered. I'm not really sure that this is a negative. There were a variety of activities offered every day for those who wanted to participate or you could just say "Everyting criss" and go back to dozing in the sun. This is NOT an adults only resort (the web site is quite clear on that, so don't blame the resort for your inability to read) and there were a few children there during our stay. Unfortunately the resort doesn't offer a lot for children. Fortunately the staff step up. I watched one of the pool staff spend a fair amount of time with a little girl (about 7 years old) in the pool teaching her to swim. Another staff member took her out in a kayak when her mother was uncertain about how to paddle it. Now for the positive: On arrival we were greeted at the front gate and shown to the front desk. Kaydi-Ann (wonderful lady), the front desk manager took care of getting us checked in and introduced us to Fabian, the Butler who took care of us during our stay. Fabian gave us the 15 minute tour of the property (really all it takes as this is a small place), and took us up to our room. This was how we were treated for the rest of our stay. Walk through the lobby and everyone greets you. Even the Hotel Manager, Saul, would stop what he was doing to listen to your opinion. Fabian checked in with us whenever he saw us and arranged a couple of special treats to be delivered to our room. The sand beach is not overly large, but I have stayed at 300-400 room resorts with a smaller beach. Its about 200 feet from end to end. The water is very shallow out to the rock reef, but this also protects the area from the ocean swell. On a calm day it is possible to wade the reef and some of the locals do so. The pool is not overly large, but is fine to take a quick cool off dip. Never an issue with loungers and no one is counting your towels. The servers, both in the dining rooms and around the pool/on the beach keep a constant eye open for your needs. Patrice, Rolston (Mr. Sunshine) and Andrenia have to be some of the friendliest people anywhere and were unstinting in their effort to give the guests what they wanted. The bar drinks are actual mixed drinks, not prepackaged mixes poured over slushy ice. Order a pina colada and 30 seconds later the blender starts up. The resort offers both aqua-fit and yoga sessions daily and a good selection of non-motorized water activities (paddle boards, kayaks, sailing). There is also a water sport property just up the bay that offered powered activities for an extra charge. The water front staff would try to arrange what they could, depending on the weather conditions. Our second day at the resort we met up with Rick who was getting people together for a game of croquet, then later a lesson in "Patois". Every day Rick was around getting people to participate in line dancing at the pool, or a darts tournament or some other activity. In reality he was introducing the guests to each other. He was never pushy, just always interested. Make sure you talk to Rick. All 3 dining rooms are a la carte and the wait staff and hostesses are terrific. Sylvia, Wayne and Tashane treated us like family after a few days, but they were far from the only staff in the dining rooms who were fantastic. It is special when your server greats you by name. I have seen some reviews that were not complementary to the food. I have no comprehension of how anyone could feel this way. There was always a variety of options, the menu changed at least somewhat every day and the kitchen staff were marvelous as we never had a less than great meal while we were at the resort. The beef tenderloin I had on our third day pretty much melted in my mouth. If you wanted something different, the staff would make their best effort to get it for you. You can also order a good selection through room service at any time. Never had to wait more than 30 minutes. And then there was Jerky Joes (the beach Jerk Shack). Open from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, this "little piece of the real Jamaica" was a pure treat for anyone who loves jerk, and even more so for anyone just discovering this wonderful Jamaican cuisine. Thanks Melvin and the rest of the crew for treating us visitors to something special. What makes Zoetry special is the people who run the place. The staff are possibly one of the best groups of people I have ever met anywhere. They treated us like I'm sure they would like to be treated in similar situations. There is none of the "thats not my job" attitude you get in some resorts. When I was having problems with one of the pool umbrellas and the pool staff were busy, Nicholas, one of the groundsmen, was right there to give me a hand. Interesting thing was that he had spent a year working in the area of Canada I live in. On two occasions I has to call down to the front desk for a minor maintenance issue (late evening on both occasions). I was expecting to wait. Instead, the maintenance person was up to our room within 10 minutes on both occasions. Very impressive. Would we go back to Zoetry? We don't return to vacation spots we have done, but this may be the first time. I want to say thanks to some of the wonderful people we met at Zoetry Kaydi-Ann, Fabian, Patrice, Andrenia, Rolston, Melvin, Klaron, Daniel, Nicholas, Sylvia, Wayne, Tashane, Caroline and all the others I can't think of their names right now. And finally thanks, always, to Rick. Make sure you get to talk to Rick. As Mr. Sunshine liked to say, "Respect, Bredren"

As much as we’d love to leave a perfect review for what should have been the perfect vacation, unfortunately Zoetry Montego Bay left us with a bad taste in our mouths. To get straight to the point, one day mid vacation upon returning to our room, we found my wallet had been rummaged through, cards tossed about the dresser and no sensible explanation in site. Fast forward a few short days following our return home, within the span of 1 day, I received 4 notifications from my banks and credit card companies, alerting me of suspicious attempts for different purchases, all the way from Jamaica. We live nowher near Jamaica, just as a disclaimer. We obviously and abruptly made the connection between the incidents and lost all of the love we had felt for Zoetry. Beautiful hotel. Wonderful food. Relaxing atmosphere and identify theft is what you have to look forward to when you stay here. Watch your back. Keep your eyes peeled and lock up your valuables.

We LOVED our stay!

Thank you to all of the Zoetry staff who made our stay so awesome. We had our wedding on the beach and were surrounded by only close family & friends. We felt the love... from Shanneil's honoring our desire to keep things gracefully uncomplicated...to Tadjay's service and swift driving skills... to the Wonderful Reverend Terrence Gordon's care for us and his words and blessings...to Sunshine's care for us on the beach to Geovaughnny's service at night.....to so many others! thanks, Saul, for the extra attention to our family on our departure day. Thank you! We will be back to Zoetry MoBay!

When we arrived, we were greeted with a smile, a wet/cold face cloth and a refreshing drink. Our room was ready (which was a first for us after visiting several AMResorts). Our luggage was whisked away to be taken to our room. Arleen welcomed us and was full of energy and smiles. Kaydi Ann (manager) was polite and also smiling as she checked us in and answered any questions we had. We then was introduced to our Butler Nicholas who surprised us a few days later with this amazing Happy Anniversary display of flowers on our bed. He put his time and love into doing this. Also wrote us the sweetest note that we will save. (We wish you well Nicholas in the Army and your future). We brought ear plugs and sleep mask with us because we needed quite and restful sleep. Came in handy as the employees do start early in their duties. Daily we woke to get our coffee and hot tea at the Coco Cafe. Greeted daily by Melissa or Daneika at Coco cafe with a smile and they never got tired of my petty request of what I wanted in my tea (lol) or how many times we went to get a dessert at Coco Cafe. Shano and Barbara were our lobby bar faves. They always made things to our liking and greeted us with a "sure I can do that for you" (wish you the best Shano in your life in the military if you join) We talked with Javelle with Amstar and he was always friendly and funny along with Andre' the driver who took us to so cool spots in the area, took us to eat local food, to the park, in the mountains to see the houses etc and who we had many laughs with. Breakfast dining was always a good time, great food and Daveon Pryce was always accommodating to our extra request. He was always friendly and said "no worries mon, I know what you want" LOL such a great guy. My husbands morning routine in the early mornings would consist of going to the beach (since I slept in) he would go read his book and save our morning hut on the beach (Harmony Hut) and he enjoyed his morning time talking with Winston aka "Beardy" who is one of the hardest workers on the property. Our beach time consist of us being spoiled by "Sunshine" catering to our needs and wants of food and drink and we can't forget the dominos game between my husband and Sunshine.. and the food being served by Melvin at Jerky Jo's. Dinner was never ever disappointing.. the chef or chefs cooking at this place are top notch.. We enjoyed chatting with Wayne who always asked us how we were doing and if we need anything.. and to finish it off we just adore being served at dinner by Avery (I called him Kevin Hart LOL he walks and talks like Kevin Hart lol so fun) and being served by Christine(Christine had a beautiful smile and she always called us by name and worked her tale off).. These two always made us enjoy dinner and I appreciate their hard work and contagious smile.. these for sure are the PRO's to this resort. I have a few CON's below.. if they correct these cons this resort will be beyond 5 star.. and YES we will for sure recommend this place. ITs small and intimate so if you looking for "party wild life" this is not your place. We are in our early 40's and needed to get away and disconnect and this was the perfect oasis to quench our thirst for a more secluded and "catering" resort.. CONs- they do have some improvements to be made as far as painting and some sheet rock repairs on walls in common bathrooms, the fountains all should be working and some were not, the grass and law needs to be manicured better, sidewalks were clean for the most part but around the main pool i noticed dirty/stained/faded cushions, the spa cold plunge pool was not cold more luke warm, the spa area needs the grounds to be swept or blown off more frequent, the complimentary 20 min message was a joke (the staff was late getting to us and then only gave us 10 mins) this discouraged us to book the spa at all, the grounds at Jerky Jo's needed to cleaned off more often since its where to eat at, Winston did his best to keep the beach cleaned but he needed some help (we love Winston), some of the staff seemed to really have attitudes. This was common discussed among several other guest we met and talked with. We feel when greeted in the mornings or at dinner etc the hostess should always be friendly and smile, but they seemed to be young and have an attitude. A few others walked around like they were "mad at the world" but I have to include on the positive Merlene was ALWAYS smiling and kind. The Chef's special of the day should be more authentic to the island food. They should have the beef, chicken and cheese patties at Jerky Jo's or Coco Cafe so that guest can experience local food. We found ourselves desiring to leave the resort to go "taste" the more authentic food of the island.. so we feel Chef's special should always be a more authentic dish of the island and the patties should be there to eat daily. Laundry was awesome. Housekeeping was pretty good. Some days some did more than others, depending on who you got. Turn down service is awesome. I love they would stack pillows out of your way and refresh your towels etc. Conclusion is this is an awesome place.. we visited down town area which was not for the soft at heart.. it made me sad to see the poverty of this country. But the people are friendly and seem to work hard. The shops are typical but you can find some neat things. I seriously recommend Zoetry Montego Bay, but make sure you get to the airport 3 hours early for your return flight, we almost missed ours and we got there 2 hours prior. Blessings to all the names mentioned in this review... you made our time so amazing.. S&J
