We loved the Westin on Seven Mile Beach!

Service was awesome and the location is the best on Seven Mile Beach. They have the best beach of all the hotels by far. The Ritz was dead at night. The Westin had live music and fun activities around the pool each night we were there. Our kids met and played with a lot of new friends each day. Can't say enough. It was great.

The Westin in Grand Cayman needs an overall update. The bed was so worn we thought we were going to roll off. We had to put the pillows on the side of us. The maid service was poor. They did not replace things in the room as they were out. The gym had old equipment and 1/3 of it was not working. The pool had a crack in it which caused the water to be cloudy. We took a dive lesson and I could barely see the instructor. The one good thing was the beach area.

Needs Renovations Very Bad!

Very disappointed that this was rated as a 5+ hotel. The first room we went into the water faucet in the tub would not turn off. Continuously running. The second room was no better. My husband went to take a shower and the handicap towel bar was unattached and rusty. In this same room there was a huge stain on the carpet outside the bathroom door. The bathroom doors were all chipped up as they had not been painted in quite some time. We were moved again to the third room where we eventually stayed. The hotel has not been renovated maybe never. Carpet was old and worn down, elevators were dirty and we often wondered if we would make it to our floor. The paint throughout the hotel was old, drab and dirty looking. Have stayed in many hotels and this by far should be rated no more than a 2. Very disappointed since I had been planning this vacation for our 30th Wedding Anniversary and we were disgusted the minute we walked into the room. Huge letdown from the pictures in your brochure and the buildup from the AAA travel agent.

The Westin was a good hotel to stay at. Although it isn't your normal Westin, it was still a good hotel. The hotel was a little outdated but who really cares when you'll be spending most of your time on the beach! Seven Mile Beach was great. The Westin had the BEST beach along Seven Mile Beach. Overall, I would recommend the Westin!

Great Beach, good rooms

We spend all of our time on the beach so no reviews of food or activities. We used our Marriott points and got a great deal. We usually stay at the Marriott but the beach has greatly eroded. Pros Very wide and deep beach. Plenty of lounges at 9am Large standard rooms Beach food/drink service with call button Free breakfast for Marriott platinum on up at Ferdinands. Plenty of choices at buffet with to order station for eggs $8 off daily coupon for food or drink for platinum Bottled water every day Water stations along the beach Large walk in shower with rain head Good bar Friendly staff Cons Gigantic sink in bathroom leaves minimal counter space Only 3 drawers for clothes Cant use pool because there are never any lounges available after 8am - ghosts guests have them taken. Room safe at top of closet and hard to see contents Robes but no slippers If we get a deal we would come here vs. the Marriott.

Nice hotel but beach too crowded - why pay big $$$ to stay at the Westin?

The Westin is a beautiful hotel on a great beach. But I was very disappointed to find the beach so crowded. The Westin easily has the most crowded stretch of sand on Seven Mile Beach -- five lounge chairs deep and NONE available during peak times. Why? As other reviews herein have noted, guests at the Sunshine Suites (a budget-friendly accommodation across the main road) have full access to the Westin facilities. So why pay top dollar to be at the Westin??? It's a 4 or 5 star hotel but the experience is marred by too many people (and that's the result of bad decision-making by the hotel's management). Sad, because it's a lovely property. But I'll probably stay elsewhere next time I'm in Grand Cayman.

Incredible service. Very nice hotel. Very Expensive Resort!

I just completed my second stay at the Westin in 2019. (lifetime 7th) The first was in January for "work" and the second was Spring break with the family. They recently finished a big time make over and the end result is a very pretty and comfortable lobby. We had adjoining rooms (more on this later) and the bathrooms in both were new and very nice. The room itself was nice / updated but the bed was very uncomfortable. I woke up every day with a back ache / stiff neck. The service at the hotel was exceptional. From the bellman, to the front desk, to the incredible wait staff at the pool, I was absolutely blown away with the responsiveness and friendliness of the waiters & staff. I also think the beach here is top two on the islands for resorts. The marriott on southern 7 mile, doesn't even have a beach. (massive erosion) The Ritz's beach is a *sea* of chairs. The Westin does a good job so that the chairs are not on top of one another. (Kimpton also has a nice beach) The pool itself is average and was not part of the recent make over. The bottom of the pool is very rough and I found myself wearing my scuba booties so my feet didn't get chewed up. The pool was also PACKED. PACKED with so many parents and children, all of whom felt it was ok to throw / bounce water balls over and through crowds including small children. I don't know if that's the responsibility of the resort or the parents, but it made for intense pool time. I was hit in the head no less than 5 times- countless more near misses. (to be fair, i went during spring break) I was one of the guests downstairs at 6AM to reserve chairs (the only way to get them btw. if you show up at 8AM zero chance at a pool chair or decent beach chair.) During that time I got to watch the morning cleaning crew. Also exceptional. The pool guy (name?) worked so hard every morning to get that pool perfect. Every day by the afternoon, the pool was cloudy from all the sunscreen. I don't know of a fix, but by 4pm that pool was opaque. The reason I only gave this 4 stars is because of the cost vs value. I know the running joke is "welcome to the caymans" when sticker shock sets in. Like I said, this was my 7th time at the hotel. But this time...it was over the top expensive. case in point 16% gratuity on everything. Maybe that's why the service was so excellent. But do I really need to tip 16% on apple juice for the kids? $6 apple juice for those of you at home. The king daddy of them all.... mixed cocktails came in a $22 a pop. Twenty TWO Dollars. I live in nyc...we have our fair share of absurd drink prices. $22 for a Mai Thai is madness. More on the cost- I booked two rooms. However, if I wanted to G'tee those rooms were connecting, I had to pay $150 a night. 7 nights, an extra $1,050. Otherwise, you had to *hope* it was available at check in. I thought the food was very good, although we didn't eat at the fanciest place. The pool food was also very good, albeit basic food. Special acknowledgement for Chef Alfredo who made our stay very nice and was very accommodating to my family. We loved the food across the street at the sunshine suites. aaaand it was cheaper! Finally some recognition to hotel staff that made our stay special. Denniston at the front door. I think the bell staff set the tone for the entire hotel. First impressions... Denniston is the man. So nice, friendly and extremely helpful. He was my favorite person at the whole hotel. Keandre & Matthew were also super friendly and helpful. Just happy guys that seemed to genuinely want to make the vacation better for everyone. Kate (Irish Kate) was our favorite pool waitress. She quickly learned our names and was so friendly and eager to help. Rheverand was a close second. I'm not sure if he ever actually served us, but he learned our names quickly and always asked if we needed anything. Bartenders: Luca made the best cocktails. Garth a close second and Ollie was a very chill dude. Sadly - some of the bartenders do not know how to make anything off menu. $22 for a poorly made cocktail is not cool. there is no sour mix in a Mai Thai. No need to try to convince anyone otherwise. just admit that you don't know how to make it. Beach Ambassadors: Carl was the man - I really enjoyed chatting with him every morning. Super friendly and passionate about his home island. Very interesting and helpful to get his take on the island. Reysiel also deserves a special shoutout. She was so friendly every day. On our last day we mentioned that we were leaving. After we left our chairs for the final time.... somehow she found me in the lobby 2 hours later with my son's shoes. She grabbed them and hunted me down. Exceptional service. The room cleaning crew also did a fantastic job every single day. On the whole, I'd say that the service at the Westin was incredible. 99% of them were perfect in every way. The lone exception was the young lady that was working as the Concierge. I won't say her name, but i'm guessing you already know. I've never encountered a concierge who hated her job more than this one. She didn't know anything about the island and did everything with OUT a smile, at a snails pace. Very long story short, I would absolutely recommend the hotel. But it's wildly expensive.

We were at the Westin for Easter Break. The rooms were clean but we were not in our rooms very often. The pool was ok - but not clean as expected. There was some entertainment for the children but not enough. We spent the majority of our time on the beautiful beach. The beach ambassadors help set up chairs and provided us with towels. It was exactly what we wanted for this vacation.

Westin Amenities Review

To be honest, I didn't stay in the Westin, but at the Sunshine Suites which allows the use of Westin pool, beach, restaurants, and other amenities, and permits guests to charge Westin incidentals to their room at Sunshine. Since I spent most of my free time at the Westin pool, beach, fitness facilities, and used the Red Sail Sports scuba diving on the Westin property, this review is confined to those services and not the rooms. Overall, the pool area is very nice, but not fantastic. During my 8-day mid-April visit, like at many other high volume hotel resorts, pool side lounge chairs generally needed to be secured by 8 AM, with prime locations going earlier. Pool side service was terrific. Many of the pool attendants remembered my name and were extremely accommodating. Food and drinks were good, but on the expensive side. One thing that surprised me was the high number of kids at the pool and beach areas. Most of the people in the pool area were families with kids. This is great if you are bringing the kids for a pool side and beach vacation. But for couples and solos, there are probably better options outside of the Caymans that offer adults only resorts. (This is my sixth trip to the Caymans after a 15 year hiatus and my second trip to the Westin. I don't remember this number of kids in prior high-season trips that I took here many years ago.) Of course, the Seven Mile Beach sunsets can't be beat and the outdoors bar is a perfect place to watch them. However, the pool bar gets crowded early and can be tough to snag a seat. Again, you'll likely find some families with kids sitting at the bar. The Westin has a happy hour each night at the poolside bar and a later happy hour at the indoors bar. Each night at poolside they offer live music and the outdoors restaurant typically has a nightly theme or special which was a nice touch. As for the fitness facilities, they are quite small and the equipment was limited. In my week, the fitness room was often entirely full around 8 AM. I also used the Red Sail Sports scuba service on two days at the Westin. Being a long-time diver, I thought they did a fine job and had zero complaints with their boats, divemasters, and dive operations. Overall, if I was vacationing with smaller children (that's behind me) to have a beach and pool only vacation, this would be great due to the high volume family atmosphere. However, since I normally travel on beach and dive vacations either solo or with my spouse, next time it will probably be at a condo or at an adults only resort.
