We loved the Westin on Seven Mile Beach!
STEVEN B.

Service was awesome and the location is the best on Seven Mile Beach. They have the best beach of all the hotels by far. The Ritz was dead at night. The Westin had live music and fun activities around the pool each night we were there. Our kids met and played with a lot of new friends each day. Can't say enough. It was great.

The Westin in Grand Cayman needs an overall update. The bed was so worn we thought we were going to roll off. We had to put the pillows on the side of us. The maid service was poor. They did not replace things in the room as they were out. The gym had old equipment and 1/3 of it was not working. The pool had a crack in it which caused the water to be cloudy. We took a dive lesson and I could barely see the instructor. The one good thing was the beach area.

Needs Renovations Very Bad!
RONALD F.

Very disappointed that this was rated as a 5+ hotel. The first room we went into the water faucet in the tub would not turn off. Continuously running. The second room was no better. My husband went to take a shower and the handicap towel bar was unattached and rusty. In this same room there was a huge stain on the carpet outside the bathroom door. The bathroom doors were all chipped up as they had not been painted in quite some time. We were moved again to the third room where we eventually stayed. The hotel has not been renovated maybe never. Carpet was old and worn down, elevators were dirty and we often wondered if we would make it to our floor. The paint throughout the hotel was old, drab and dirty looking. Have stayed in many hotels and this by far should be rated no more than a 2. Very disappointed since I had been planning this vacation for our 30th Wedding Anniversary and we were disgusted the minute we walked into the room. Huge letdown from the pictures in your brochure and the buildup from the AAA travel agent.

The Westin was a good hotel to stay at. Although it isn't your normal Westin, it was still a good hotel. The hotel was a little outdated but who really cares when you'll be spending most of your time on the beach! Seven Mile Beach was great. The Westin had the BEST beach along Seven Mile Beach. Overall, I would recommend the Westin!

Nice beach, nice pool, nice restaurants and, best of all, great service from everyone at the resort.

We stayed there for a week in late April/early May with the idea that we'd have missed the peak season but, the hotel was sold out. Part of this is probably because there are so many other islands that have not recovered enough for vacations. Another reason is probably because a hotel this good has a longer peak season than an average hotel. I thought there was an adequate number of chairs by the pool and this is important to me. The beach was a little crowded but, still OK. We never rented a cabana because they were so expensive. Overall, Grand Cayman is the most expensive island in the Caribbean so, be prepared for this, everywhere you go. It's a double edged sword. The prices are high and some things are out of reach but, high prices tend to keep the rif-raf out! Even though some things seemed to be too expensive, we'd go back here in a heartbeat - and that's coming from someone who has vacationed in the Caribbean once per year for over 20 years. I thought the Tortuga Grille was better than a typical beach side bar. We're not breakfast people but, the breakfast offered at this hotel was really good. I could mention other features, restaurants, and things to do but, the thing that pushed this hotel over the edge is the service we received from everyone in the hotel. The servers at the pool - Larissa, Carey, Shanel, Kate, Katie and Reysiel (their boss!) - were the best. I never felt like they were just out there to drop off drinks. They all stopped to talk for a minute and they remembered us by name. I spoke with 2 people who worked in the lobby bar and they also took that extra time to be friendly. I don't recall their names or, I'd give them kudos in this review. One of them was a Dutch girl and the other was a dark haired guy who seemed to be crafting the drinks like he was painting a masterpiece. There were others, too. If you want to book any tours, ask for Shenese at the tour desk. She took care of everything for us. At check-in/checkout, Candacy took good care of us. I only had 2 complaints and they weren't enough to knock this down from a 5 star rating. We got to the hotel before noon, which was before the official check-in time. We tried to get an early check-in but, if anything, we ended up with a very late check-in, 4:30 PM. I felt like the hotel could have done a better job with this situation. Every time we checked for an update, we were told that the room was "almost ready". I felt like we wasted the first day. The point of taking an early flight is to make use of the travel day. The other complaint was that, when the room finally was ready, we still needed some help from maintenance. A light bulb didn't work and the thermostat needed to be re-programmed. We had trouble with the AC a few times. The hall was cooler and more comfortable than our room. A person from maintenance came a few times and the problem did get solved.

The Westin is a lovely, unpretentious property situated on the famed Seven Mile Beach. The service is excellent, the room very comfortable and the hotel had everything we needed. Directly across the street and all along the street of hotel one can find many restaurants, shops and grocery stores. The Beach House Restaurant in the hotel offers fine dining with outdoor seating for viewing the sunset.

Still the best resort on the island, but with concerns this time around

This was our third stay here (one before the renovations, and two afterwards), so we've had a pretty good sample size. The location is perfect, and the beach/resort are incredibly beautiful as always, but we did come away with a few concerns this time around. First the positives, the front desk staff, and bellmen were extremely helpful, and Rafael specifically helped us to upgrade mid-way through our stay, so we definitely appreciated all of their help. We've experienced this every time that we've come, and really all of the hotel staff including the restaurant staff were so kind and welcoming, especially to the kids. We also appreciated that it seems like they made a much bigger deal (and were better organized) for some of the themed activities like the smores and movie nights, but I don't think it was overly geared towards kids and families. I think I saw just as many adults at the smores and movie night as kids. I think there's still a very good balance between a family and adult atmosphere. Now for some of the concerns...we experienced the same issue with having to grab the beach chairs very early in the morning (by 7:30AM). We've been coming in May the last few years, and it was noticeably busier this year at a time that I believe is usually slower for them, so I'm sure that impacted the chair situation. The hotel said that they were fully booked, and there was a conference, as well as a wedding every night on the weekend, so it definitely felt like it. I guess we had become accustomed to it being a little less crowded this time of the year. We also had some mixed experiences with the maid service. In our first room, I think there was at least a day or two where the maid didn't appear to clean or at least not very well. In our second room, we had the complete opposite experience, and the room was cleaned perfectly each day. None of these concerns would stop us from coming back, and we still hope to someday, but I think we we just had more mixed feelings this time around.

Tough start but beautiful ending at the Westin

My husband and I just returned from the Westin and can't wait to return with our kids! The hotel is situated on one of the most perfect beaches for families in the Caribbean! The stunning turquoise water and smooth, silky sand are reflected in the colors of the hotel. The Westin is beautifully renovated in a modern beachy style. Unfortunately, our room was not ocean view initially. To our disappointment, it faced the parking lot and was entirely blocked by a palm tree. It had no light coming in or a balcony to step out onto to get fresh air. We felt like we were in just any hotel room anywhere, not one on a Caribbean island. Though the view was disenchanting to say the least, we were more inconvenienced by the alarm clock shocking us awake at 6am and the sound of crying babies next door. The toilet wasn't working either so it was a stressful first night in the Cayman Islands. Thankfully, Rafael at the front desk immediately addressed this issue the next morning. He went out of his way to get us approved for an upgrade to a high ocean view room. These rooms were extremely hard to come by because the hotel was fully booked. His efforts literally saved our trip! Throughout the rest of our stay, he took care of us, giving us personal attention with a warm and friendly smile. Due to his outstanding service and the beautiful beach, we will gladly return with our children next time! Grand Cayman Island is breathtaking. Stingray City was amazing too! Consider staying at the Westin, it's a beautiful place to stay for a relaxing island getaway!

I have visited Cayman several times as my husband attends yearly business meetings. We have stayed at different resorts on Seven Mile Beach. This was my first stay at Westin. Our room was clean and updated but it had 2 double beds. We requested a king (my husband is a big man at 6’4”!). We were placed on the first floor in a handicap accessible (not by request) room just a few doors down from the lobby. The hallway right outside our room was tile which made the hallway very loud as guests walked pass to get to the lobby. Being a handicap accessible room, the closet bar was low and my dresses hung on the floor. There were no towel racks to hang wet towels up to dry. Towels were just stacked up by the sink. There were grab bars around the toilet but I’m not going to hang my towel by the toilet! Yes it’s a nice beach and they offer a button to “call” service to order food/drinks. I pressed my button at 1:30 and received my food at 3:00 (it was just a BLT wrap & an ice tea). Every day by 6:30am EVERY beach chair in the front row was claimed. On the day my husband had meetings, I sat at the beach all day. Some of those front row chairs didn’t get occupied until 11:30. Another set of front row chairs, they sat there for about 30 mins in the morning then didn’t return until 4ish. I heard them say they went to Stingray City! I guess the Westin does not enforce their policy about not leaving the chairs unattended for more than 2 hours! Very frustrating! Be prepared to be charged for all extras (standup paddle boards, snorkel gear, kayak, rafts, etc). We’ve stayed at other resorts where this is included
