Visited this property in March 2013. Was absolutely beautiful and well kept. Rooms were large and very well appointed. The beach was not the best I have seen but very clean. We rented a car and drove all around the area, which I would highly recommend doing, you can rent a car right at the hotel.

Wildlife (rather than a Wild Life)

We had a great holiday here with our teenage daughter. It was supposed to be the rainy season but the sun shone throughout our stay and since the resort was at low capacity this time of year it was nice and quiet providing an opportunity to relax. We tried all of the restaurants and were all good (French, Italian and Catalana's were excellent). All staff were very friendly. Gym was well equipped and there was lots to do (table tennis, tennis, kayaking etc.). The beach was beautiful and we took long walks in both directions (it wasn't very busy this time of year). Weekends did get busier on the resort (probably not busy at all really …. but it was just so lovely and quiet during the week!). We thought the resort was fairly well contained and the amenities easy to walk between so we never took the golf carts that always stopped to offer a lift). We took 3 tours: Sloth Tour through our travel company (quite expensive, quite a long way to go and the wildlife area was more like walking through a rainforest oasis than the real thing. On the upside, guaranteed sloth sightings and plenty of other wildlife including frogs) For the other 2 tours we used Eric on he beach. We paid only a small deposit and both times we were picked up promptly - once for an ATV tour through wetlands and forest and once for the Paulo Verde river tour through Pablo's Surf School (Yes - no surfing involved - see seperate review - it was great). Our room was excellent - split level - there was a door to the bathroom. The monkey towel art was amazing. Two of trips were early starts before the buffet breakfast opened so we took the (free) room service breakfast which arrived promptly and was a good quality. The golf course borders the resort - it looked challenging but we're not really golfers. To be honest I saw far more groundsmen on the course each day than golfers which was rather a pity for a good course. The pool was fantastic - not many people in it during our stay. Surrounded by lush vegetation and with a swim up bar. I don't think the hotel pictures really do it justice. The top feature of the resort however has to be the wildlife and I was up early most days taking photo's. Yes there are howler monkeys and coati's (early morning I found the howler monkey's came quite low in the trees) - but there was also fantastic birdlife including hummingbirds and pigmy owls. [I think many people didn't spot what was around them!]. I attach photo's of the wildlife I capture at the resort.

Fantastic Experience

Booked through Pacific Trade Winds and they recommended the Royal Beach Club for added privacy and personalized experience. Very very worth it, our concierges Jeff and Errol went above and beyond to make the trip special. Errol was very helpful by the pool, there is private one for RBC guests so you avoid the hustle of the main pool. The pool also has a bar and you can enjoy your all-inclusive perks in a great way. Jeff was our main point person, very friendly, helpful and so fun! He made us feel welcome like family and helped us whenever we were confused, and we were sad to leave! Special thanks to Gabby at the RBC for the all the help as well! Rooms were clean, crisp linens and well planned like all Westin luxury hotels. The resort is stunning, well maintained and convenient with all the multiple carts transporting everyone to restaurants and all the amenities. There are some great activities available and you have access through the hotel to the beach. Be aware of the vendors, it is a public beach and you will get pushed to buy good or services. Definitely get a massage though, Lisa was amazing and it was $20 (!) for an amazing full body massage- definitely recommend it. The hotel provides snorkeling, kayaking, and boogie boards and bikes and you can jetski for a nominal fee as well. It was well worth it to stay in such an accessible location, with all the amenities taken care of. I was concerned that the food wouldn't be amazing but I was wrong! Mitra has a great breakfast buffet, or RBC guests can try a lovely Ala Carte at Faisenella. We loved Faisenella an Italian restaurant, and Norman and Alejandra made every visit to the restaurant most welcoming. Thankyou! The other restaurants are lovely too, Spirula has amazing pizzas and pastas and Catalinas is a lovely change of pace. I would not recommend Bamboo (asian) as it wasn't very asian at all. All other experiences were above par! The best part was the service and hospitality, huge thankyou to Derek as well! Everyone was helpful and welcoming and made the Westin feel like a lovely part of home. Thankyou for a beautiful stay, we cannot wait to come back again!

Stayed 5 nights in a Junior Suite- it was our first time in a big All Inc resort but overall we were very pleasantly surprised - its a very large property but there are very regular buggy services to ferry you home (especially welcome at the end of the night!)- normally the big issue with AI resorts is variable food quality but we ate at 5 different restaurants and the food quality, service, variety and ambience was all excellent. Drinks were plentiful and always served with a smile and you could always find a space around the large pool. Sometimes the entertainment team got a little shouty for my taste (as I am not sure that Bingo is very 5 star?) but they are trying to keep a wide range of clientele happy so can easily forgive that. Nature is all around and where else can you see monkeys and coatis on the way to breakfast ? Great value.

Amazing Stay and See Erik Garcia for Excursions

We just returned from staying at this resort. It is very lovely and I would give it a 4.5 stars. The employees were so incredibly polite and genuinely happy. We had a couple of issues but were resolved quickly and respectfully. A sweet wonderful kid named Ian checked us in and out. All the staff we ran into at the restaurants were great. I loved the layout of the rooms. I will definitely stay here again. Do not forget to see Erik Garcia for your excursions and tours. Erik is the guy you will run into as soon as you walk through the resort entrance/exit to the beach. He set us up with zip lining (thanks to David of Hacienda Roble) and waterfall/volcano (special thanks to Joel who spent the whole day with us, poor guy) tours. You get a better deal with him, the best deal if you pay in cash. The tours were excellent and on time.
