THE HOTEL IS MORE OF A MOTEL. THE HOTEL IS OUTDATED AND IN NEED OF A REFRESH. THE STAFF WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE FRONT DESK AND MAIDS ARE UNHELPFUL AND LOOK AS IF THEY ARE UNHAPPY. THE BEACH IS MARGINAL AND UNKEMPT THEY RARELY CLEAN THE CHAISE LOUNGES AND THERE IS GARBAGE LITTERED AROUND THEM. THE TOWELS ARE IN LOW SUPPLY AND ARE DISGUSTINGLY OLD AND STAINED. THE FOOD... ASIDE FROM BREAKFAST IS DISGUSTING AND ALMOST INEDIBLE. THE A LA Carte RESTAURANTS ARE NOT MUCH BETTER. THE ALCOHOL AT THE BAR IS THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL AND BEYOND CHEAP. THEY SERVE YOUR DRINK IN REUSEABLE 10 OZ CUPS SO THE DRINKS ARE MIXED OUT OF PROPORTIONS. GUESTS ALSO HAVE TO WAIT ON LINE FOR FOOD WITH STAFF WHO ARE MAKING SPECIAL REQUESTS AND GETTING WAY BETTER FOOD.

Nice hotel overall

We stayed there with my friend for 12 nights, and we had a pretty good experience. The room was spacious and clean. The A/C didn’t work which wasn’t bad as it makes us sick. Beautiful vue on the ocean. FYI there is no WiFi in the room so you have to pay extra for it. Loved the big bathroom. We had to change room few days before leaving as they had to finish painting it....weird!!!! The other room wasn’t as good as the first one but near the pool so with access to the WiFi. Do not expect much help from the reception. The food at the buffet wasn’t as good as expected but very large choice for everyone. In the x3 restaurants the food quality was a way better. Always good service though. Speak to Hector at the guest service and he will book a table for you. Speaking of Hector, he’s a superstar!!!! He speaks really good English, he’s kind & helpful. We passed by him to book excursions and we never been disappointed. A really big thank you Hector!!!!! Daily activities was alright, the only thing I have to say is the music... so repetitive every day the same tunes for the same activities. Please add more music to your playlist. The team was great though, Electric V is such a character. A big thank you to El Pollo & El Indio for other activities it was really nice to meet them both, fun and really involved in their jobs. Great pool with lots of sun beds. The beach is beautiful and clean, I truly miss going there every day. I definitely recommend it as the staff is brilliant.

My experience.

Just recently visited the Dominican Republic May 22-29 I have a few pros and cons about the Viva Wyndham Tangerine in Puerto Plata. Pros.... Close to the airport. Beach is beautiful. Pool is nice. Room was nice. Food was good something for everyone. Weather was hot Excursion was fun. Cons.... One bar & one washroom near bar in main lobby. Had to get our own juice or cocktail at the buffet. Left maid a tip everyday, they didn't do anything extra or leave us extra towels. No fridge in room. Had to pay $ 2.00 American a day for safe in room. Dancing with the Stars on TV was better then the entertainment. To many vendors on the beach harassing us every day to buy something. May is low season not many Canadians or Americans mostly Europeans. Would I visit this resort again? I may go back because I know what to expect now. It's not expensive, the weather was hot and the drinks were cold. Viva Wyndham Tangerine is a great place if you just want some R&R Dominican Republic is a great place to visit, I think next year I will try Punta Cana.

WONDERFUL VISIT, MID-MAY 2018. VERY LITTLE TO CRITICISE & WE ARE COMING BACK SOON!

COMMENTS: We were at the hotel during an off season period, so please take this into account when reading the comments below. - ROOM: In the main building, on the 1st floor above the dining-room / bar, with balcony & sea view. Nicely simple and well cleaned every day. Although a little noisy at night sometimes, the sunrises were wonderful and all is very quiet in the morning. We would certainly ask to be in the same place again and jumping into the waves before breakfast is not only refreshing, but highly recommended! - FOOD: In the main dining-room something for everyone. However, it is worth taking a large plate & trying a little bit of what looks good before making the final decision for each meal. The staff are delightful, helpful and full of smiles. As to the other 3 restaurants, they are worth going to once over a 2 week stay, particularly the Fusion restaurant. - BAR: Not what it could be in terms of presentation, but convenient near the pool. Samuel and Elisabeth in particular were the stalwarts and E. makes very good Margaritas! (And if you have stomach problems, ask Samuel for "La Bomba" . . . it certainly does the trick!) - ENTERTAINMENT: Great fun and not at all pushy. Lead by the amazing Yaquelin and wonderfully supported by Franki, Cocoa, not forgetting Markos, Pinkie and several others - all real characters. Entertainment includes yoga, aqua aerobics, zumba, Merenge & Bachata dancing by the pool, not to mention a show in the theatre several evenings a week. (They even organised - unknown to me - a party for my birthday, with cake, balloons, music, etc.). - SPA: Truly wonderful massages by Airie and for hair and beauty, the amazing and amusing, Morena, who has been there for more than 25 years. - MEDICAL TREATMENT: A really excellent service, even at mid-night! - RECEPTION: We have read criticism of this, but we found them to be excellent and very helpful, both before our arrival and after our departure. Note that unless you ask specifically for the Viva Wyndham reception on the phone before you arrive, you are dealing with a centralised system for the island. SUMMARY: Frankly, I do not think one could expect much more from a hotel of its standing and above all else, everyone was welcoming, kind, helpful and smiling. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone. See you again soon!

This shouldn’t be called a resort

Trip date May 29 - June 5 2018 Current date May 31 2018 My cousin and I are seasoned travellers and decided to do a 7 day vacation from Toronto to puerto plata, we knew the Wyndham chain and thought their hotel would be a good vacation spot. We are not picky, and we stayed in our share of slums, this has to be #1 on our “worst” list. When we arrived at Viva Wyndham, the lobby was small and hot and the staff we far from friendly. We arrived at 12 and had to wait until 3 to get a room, they told us to put our suitcases in a room (not supervised by staff), so because it was hot and we didn’t want to pull it around we had to trust no one would take it. And we went for lunch. Because I don’t want to make this a SUPER long review, I’ll just say This would be a resort where you LOOSE weight because their food is sooooo disgusting, even the snack bar is a shame. The front desk staff do not give you a run down of the property, tell just tell you to find it on map. The first room they gave us was right over the kitchens grease trap and had a smell, when we returned to the lobby to request a new room, again the ladies were not friendly AT ALL and had us wait another 15 (the hotel was empty) The rooms are decent but not practical for vacation. For example, they give you bottle water but there’s no fridge in the room to keep it cool, no coffe/tea maker or a desk to rest your items on, bathroom is nice but the way it’s set up the floor gets drenched because there is no door to the shower. Staff at the hotel don’t say hello, smile or even make much eye contact with you which makes the environment feel less welcoming. There only 1 bar, 1 buffet and 1 a-la-Cart that changes between Italian and Mexican. If you want to eat at the a-la-cart you need to make a reservation before 3 when guest services closes. The bartender Samuel was the only nice person we met. The drink are okay but option are limited. There are 2 pools, one main one and one “private pool”. The private pool is in a secluded area and the cabanas around it are SUPER dirty. The main pool is an okay size, at about 3:30 entertainment staff came out to do 1 dance and that was it. They interacted with people near the pool for about 10 minutes than gathered near the bar to set up streamers for the night “show”. The night show was a snooze fest, someone came out to sing really sad songs all night and that was it. The beach water is really rough, and you can’t really go in, because people are wind surfing everywhere. We even witnessed one of the wind surfers almost hit a beach go-er in the heat with their board. To be completely Honest, I would not recommend this hotel to anybody, and would have rated them MINUS stars if it were possible. Wyndham should be ashamed that this establishment is run the way it is. All these events happened within our first 24 hours staying at this hotel. We arrived Tuesday afternoon and first thing Wednesday morning we went to our Air Canada Vacation representative, and told him that we were not happy here we were going to transfer to another hotel, even if we had to pay. He helped us get a transfer to another hotel and gave us info on transportation, now we are staying at the Lifestyle tropical beach resort and have not stopped smiling since because we can actually enjoy our vacation and be comfortable and have a good time.

I like the hotel, but the staff there stole money from safe

We stay at Viva Tangerine in Cabarete because this place is famous for kitesurfing. The hotel is rated 3.5 stars which is quite low but I was quite satisfied with our rooms, pool, buffet and a la carte restaurants considering low star rating of the hotel. No seafood for foodies. Staff in restaurants and at the bar is very pleasant. However we had an incident that our money was stolen from a safe! Yes from a safe. We brought cash because you get a discount if you pay cash for kitesurfing lessons. Btw kitesurfing is not free at this hotel. It is a false advertisement. One lesson on the beach with a training kite is free. We never took that lesson because they did not have them at the time we were there. The safe kept malfunctioning and a security guard came few times to open it. I never thought a safe in a hotel could be not safe but we had few hundred $ missing. Someone opened our room when we were not there and opened the safe and took some money, 1/3 of our money actually. I have complained to Sunwing about it and it took more than a month to respond but they finally responed that the hotel will not investigate or take any action and I should claim it from our insurance. I specifically said I am not looking for a compensation just acknowledgment and action to be taken from the hotel to prevent this happening in future. A travel agent not associated with Sunwing told me that it happens quite often that money is stollen from a safe. Please do not trust hotel safes with your money or valuables. Do not take cash with you and do not ever take any cash to Viva Wyndham Tangarine!
