A Great Place!

As others have said, The Cayena part of the VIK Hotel is separate, but you you can use all of the restaurants and facilities of the big VIK hotel. The Cayena is right on the beach, very quiet, with it's only breakfast and lunch restaurant, pool and beach. It's heaven! The food is good all over the resort, the people who work there are very friendly and the beach is wonderful! My only complaint is that the room is dated and damp. It is also very noisy. You can hear your neighbors as if they are right in the same room. Ask for a non-adjoining room. They spray some perfume in the room which I found nauseating, so you may want to tell them not to do that. Our room got wifi, but it's weak in the room. Best if used right on the beach! There are miles and miles of beach to walk on and enjoy. Try a Bananamama at the bar, and also, the bartender will make wonderful smoothies if you'd like. Never a line at the omelet bar (Thank you Oscar the great omelet chef) and all of the girls in reception (Melanie, Melanie and Nikki), couldn't be nicer. Highly recommend this place! More>

Great time at the VIK

We decided to try the VIK Cayena being it was a smaller resort then the last one we have stayed at... I must say Wow! This place has amazing food and the people are so sweet! We loved talking with the bartenders Antonio and Newton! The grounds are beautiful and everything is close by with very little walking needed. We were supposed to be on the first level, but they put us on the second level at my request with no problems. The view was beautiful!! Our cleaning lady was very kind as was the guy who stocks our fridge. Not sure why people say this hotel caters to Europeans? We are from the US and they went out of their way to cater to us... We joined the VIP Program after talking to many couples that we met there and they said it was a fantastic program... I'll let you know when we decide to travel on it next time. I highly recommend this resort, it's so much nicer than the non-vip resort next door, the Arena. The extra money for the VIP is totally worth it! The food was amazing and our private beach area was beautiful... We will be coming back to the VIK Cayena very soon!! More>

Nice place to relax

We visited this hotel with our two pre-teens for March break. Very glad we were at the Cayena and not the other bigger side of the Arena Blanca. With only 47 rooms on the Cayena side it was exactly what we wanted. The Cayena side has its own restaurant for breakfast and lunch which very adequate and had some amazing views of the ocean. For dinner you will have to go to the other side. It is ok. There is enough to choose from. We did become tired of resort food before the end of our 7 night trip. There is also a private pool and private beach section with great loungers, with no need to reserve early in the morning. As for the rooms, they were all we needed. The kids each had their own bed. The wife and I took the big pull out couch bed with the some what privacy door/curtain. The pull out bed is not comfortable at all. We had them add two twin mattresses to the top of the pull out and make it up as a king. This worked great for us. We had a third floor and had an amazing view of the ocean from the room. If you are looking for a nice quiet relaxing vacation this hotel will do. No activities people bugging you but you will be bugged to take a time share sit down. I do recommend you take the free catamaran tour for the Cayena side. We had 10 people on board. It was great. This is not a party hotel. Very quiet. Only a few families on this side. It was completely different on the other side. Felt busy and loud over there couldn't wait to get back to our side when we ventured over there. More>

Everything We Hoped For

I know everyone says they never write reviews but I really do not unless the experience was exceptional. My family and I stayed at the Cayena Beach Club/Vik Hotel for two weeks and our experience was beyond our wildest dreams. Mealtime was a time all four of us looked forward to. We ate at three of the restaurants and they were all fantastic but we ate 80% of our meals at the buffet because everything was so fresh and delicious. There was a huge variety of foods and the service providers were very accommodating to my daughter who I would identify as a "selective eater". There were two servers who took very good care of us, Elias and Carlos. We would look forward to seeing them each day. The rooms were beautiful, traditional sound proof and very well maintained. The employees work very hard to make your experience pleasurable. We stayed on the Cayena side of the resort but had access to both properties. I know Wifi access is important for travelers and we did not use it very much because we were on the go so much but when we did want to access it there was never a problem. When we asked our girls (ages 11 and 12) what stood out for them the most they both identified the people who work there without a doubt. It was obvious to us that the people who worked at the Cayena and the VIK have a genuine love of children. By the end of our two weeks they knew many of the employees by name and shared hugs or high fives. Pasquel always made my younger daughter, who is shy, feel very special. Antonio and Newton at the Cayena bar made special drinks for them and always served them quickly and pleasantly.....adding an extra touch each time with a fancy glass or special fruit. What stood out for my husband and I were the Monday night shows on the Cayena side. The food was AMAZING and the talent was out of this world. Eziquel was the MC each night and he was funny, inclusive (speaking at least four languages) and engaged the audience. He and Melanie both worked in the reception area during the day and always met you with a huge smile. Finally, Barbara manages the property and to put it quite simply, she is one of the kindest people we have ever met. If you decide on this property for a vacation you would not be disappointed. It truly was the best time of our lives. More>

Pretty good but not great

The room was clean, the weather was excellent, the food was very average. The people were friendly. But there is no real going off the grounds on your own. It feels like a colony experience. On the way there are two gateways guarded with folks with guns. Almost all the guests were white. Almost all the service folks are black. It's an extremely segregated culture. The level of poverty outside the gates of the resort is intense. Although, not a surprise, this was very disconcerting to me. All of this is taken for granted by the return visitors. This attitude also seemed strange to me. More>
