Excellent Service with some Mixed reviews!!!

Overall, this place was a nice place to stay for my first trip to DR! The staff(s) members (Ezquiel) was extremely friendly, nice, and very helpful. The VIK Hotel Cayena is smaller but nicer, and catered to a more private VIP section. The food was ok (I can cook better Dominican meals), depending on what was being cooked for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. THE BREADS & BUTTER WAS DELICIOUS!!! If you want more variety of foods go straight to the International Buffet for breakfast/lunch/dinner, breakfast is more catered at El Cano which was nice. Beware of the COLD Jacuzzi!!! I've also noticed the toilet seats in most of the rooms were smaller that the toilet so you'll feel like you're sitting on the toilet itself. It feels strange but at least it's clean! THE BEST non alcoholic drink >>> COCO LOCO!!! I'm not so fond of the 2 single individual beds in the room and I despised the smoking all over the hotel. Daily, our room would have a strong smoke odor throughout the day and into the night since we were on the second floor especially the people below us were smoking like chimneys. Activities provided on site were: kayaking (1 hour), snorkeling (1 hour), catarman (30 mins), and paddling boards (1 hour). You could definitely book outside excursions such as: Escape Park (Zip line, Hoyo Azul Eco Tour, Buggies) (Which I definitely recommend those 3!!! They also provide bathroom breaks and lunches in between each excursion. We had also rented a driver for about 4.5 hrs to drive us into Higuey to have real Dominican food, go to the mall, local stores, supermarkets, candy store, church, pick up coconut drinks, sugar cane drinks, and mixed fruit drinks. We also went to Saona Island which was a fun trip by speed boat going to the island, where lunch is served and I got food poisoned (I then met my new BFF the toilet for 1.5 days!! Ha ha ha), and a 2 hrs catarman boat ride back. The overall experience was great!!! However, the food I DO NOT recommend at all, unless I just had a bad batch but my friend didn't get sick. I lost a whole day due to being sick and was terrified of stepping out of the hotel room that night and all day the day after. Anyways, I hope this will help you venture out and just give VIK Cayena Hotel a try despite my personal opinion, to each is own, you will have a different experience. However, I would actually go back to this Hotel because the SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT HANDS DOWN!!! Happy & Safe Traveling!!! =P More>

Five Stars: La Cayena Beach Club, which is a private club alongside V.I.K. resort, has something unique which separates it from virtually every other resort in Punta Cana. La Cayena is small. There are only 48 rooms, and even when fully booked at Christmas, it does not seem crowded. There are ample beach and pool lounge chairs, so you never have to reserve to get a “good” spot. All of the various different lounge chairs are wicker with foam mattresses, a step up from the simple nylon chairs seen in other resorts. With smaller numbers of clients at the resort the chairs can be kept a comfortable distance apart from your next nearest neighbours. Because of the small size of the resort, it is easy to meet people and make friends from all over the world. Also, because of the small size of the resort you’ll get to know all of the staff as well. It’s nice, like family. The rooms are nice, and are kept spotlessly clean. Because of the small size of the resort, virtually every room has an ocean view. What other resort can boast this? The resort itself is very green, with trees, shrubs, and flowers everywhere. La Cayena has a gorgeous pool with a magnificent marble tile deck surround. And along side the pool, along the beach and ocean is its own private open-air restaurant. The restaurant serves a-la-carte breakfast and lunch. Over the 12 years that I’ve been coming to La Cayena, we saw a real improvement in the restaurant over the last year. Last year I would have said that the restaurant was very good, now I’d call it excellent. Breakfast is an omelet station with all of the accessories like bacon, potatoes, croissants, fruit, etc. and the lunch is a gorgeous menu of seafood, beef, chicken, pasta etc. We always have a soup, which is always homemade, and never “fatty”. After those two luxurious meals, you are not in the mood for a large evening meal, which is fine since the evening meal has to be taken at the buffet or other restaurants at V.I.K. Generally, the eating experience at V.I.K. is good, but not quite as nice as the private restaurant at La Cayena. Because of the small size of the resort, La Cayena attracts mostly people who want a quiet and relaxing vacation. They don’t have the pool games, or the exercise classes, or the dance lessons. (If you want you can just go to V.I.K. to do all of that stuff). What you do have is the sun, the pool, the beach, the ocean, and your book, and great food in a great atmosphere. What more could you ask for in order to detox from city life? More>

We just got back, had a wonderful time.when we booked the room we were given the option of an upgrade to the Cayena for $40.00 total.Im glad we choose it. The Cayena is a members only section of the resort..ocean front, has its own bar, restaurant and dining room( serves breakfast and lunch only). It is less crowded and when I return I will definitely opt for this upgrade. Vik Arena is very nice and clean. The service is very good. The food is just ok,no matter where you eat on the resort.I will definitely go back! More>

The main thing to know about this resort is that Cayene is the smaller, nicer, private section of the larger VIK Arena. When we read reviews prior to going it was super confusing as some people seemed to be talking about Cayena and some Arena. They are very different! While I'm sure Arena is fine, we would not have been happy there. It's the typical all inclusive, family stuff, stupid shows, meh food, etc. However, let's talk about Cayena! We loved being in the private area. Cayena has it's own beach, reception and restaurant. It's main focus is on the time share "owners" but we benefited. They have their own restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch and one night a week a super nice dinner. You can pay separately for dinner other nights and for a Fri night lobster fest, but we didn't. We even got to go on a party boat trip that I think was a $40 per person kind of thing. So, we liked that we were in the nicer section, loved that it was small and quiet. However, we were also happy there because we got a great price. If we'd paid full price, we probably would've been sad. The drinks are not good. The wine is undrinkable and there is little (generic) alcohol in any of the mixed drinks. Presidente beer is always available. There was minimal beach service though once we snagged someone and tipped him, he was occasionally available. The rooms are in need of updating in terms of decor but the mattresses were comfy and everything worked. The rooms are all in one building and we were on the second, then moved to the third floor where we had a nice view of the beach (side view) (beach front are all for owners). If you're looking for a party, this is not the place to go. If you love to lie on a comfy chair under an umbrella or palm tree and drink and read and do crossword puzzles, you'll like it. We will go again if we can get another good price. More>

Fantastic resort! We can't wait to return!

This was our first family vacation to Cayena, and we loved it. Everything was clean, the rooms were excellent, the staff and all the workers were friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a great time. There were plenty of recliners, chairs and tables around the pools and on the beach. The food was incredible and there was lots of it. Daily activities in the resort and in the surrounding area included parasailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, zip lining, horseback riding, golf and many others. All transportation arrangements were made by the Cayena staff which made getting to the activity and returning easy. We will definitely return for another visit, and highly recommend Cayena to families and couples that want a peaceful tropical getaway! More>
