My wife and I got a good deal to stay at Vik Hotel at Cayena Beach in the Dominican Republic. When we first arrived we were skirted onto the property and arrived at the regular Vik Hotel location. We were helped to the Cayena Beach portion of the property and check in there. The host was very welcoming and helped us settle in. Cayena Beach has their own exclusive restaurant/bar/pool/beach front. There are also restaurants/buffet/pool/bars/beach front at the Vik Hotel portion where some of the meals and activities are held. It was a nice property. The food was okay. My wife and I ended up sick for a couple of days. Not sure if this was due to foreign food for us, or if it was due to preparation. The resort staff was very friendly and outside vendors were allowed onto the site one night. Our room at Cayena Beach was okay. It looks like there were renovations taking place so this might help with some of the issues we had with our room. The reason we got such a good price was due to the fact we had our room right next to the rooms that were getting renovated. "You get what you pay for", definitely ran into our minds more than once. Overall, this was a nice resort, but we were told that there are better.

Ripped off by the photography company 👎

Me and my husband, visited the Vic hotel Cayena Beach, on our honeymoon. We had a wonderful time, at the hotel the staff were nice, very helpful and all to be expected from our honeymoon. Food was good and generally had a good time. The main thing that ruined our honeymoon, a time we were looking forward to in our memories forever was being offered a photo shoot by hotels photographers a few days before our departure. Which we decided to take up in memory of our beautiful time together, we thought that the $500 was expensive but we accepted to capture our honeymoon memories. We were told by the girl called Terlam who sold us the photo shoot to collect our photos on day of our departure, went there in the morning and was told to return at 1pm as photos would not be ready to view before this, Terlam the lady who served us was aware we were due to leave shortly after this time as being picked up to go to airport, we paid her this money after viewing photos and was told photo were on a disc and she took our email address and said she would touch up some of the photos and send these to us via email, two small bad quality photo were printed off for us. When we got home went to view photos to find the disc was empty containing no photos, have taken disc to several places only to be told it's an old disc and it contains no photo, have phoned hotel and was put through to photographers and was told another disc would be sent to us nothing has ever been sent and no email with photos has ever been sent, been well and truly ripped off by this person, please no one else fall for this rotten trick.

Cheated Us Out of Money!!!

Do NOT stay here! This review isn't even touching on the actually facilities (which were nothing short of amazing). This is in regards to the resort charge. The front desk employee charged us DOUBLE the amount for the 7 day period! When we contacted him later that day, he said he realized his own mistake and was 'contacting the company right away'. It has now been ~10 days after the incident, and I have not been refunded a single dime. I have called the hotel MULTIPLE times and am getting the same story each time - they will pass my information along to the hotel/company. All I would like to get is a confirmation (in some sort of writing) that the refund is in process. I have now had to go through the hassle of disputing this charge with the bank. Beware! They easily cheated us out of over $600.

PLEASANTLY SUPRISED

First, I am an average, middle class American. I have traveled with husband, daughters and friends for about 15 years going to Punta Cana or Mexico....always all-inclusives. Usually we do 5 stars, this was a 4 star but this was such a good deal that I tried it from Sept. 18 to 25th. The reviews I read were mixed, one complaint being internet is poor, but I didn't care. I sent a 50 cent text once a day to family...I'm on vacation. I was on the second floor of building 2 and it was a renovated room, garden view not the privilege side. (There are 5 buildings and building #1 was closed due to renovating. I do not know if all of the other buildings were renovated or not!) Not over the top elaborate but updated, neat and clean., as was the bathroom. True there are no coffee makers in room but a short walk to lobby or main buffet and I filled my mug. I personally liked the self serve beverages in buffet and self seating...no waiting! Resort is small and easy to get around but plenty of umbrellas and loungers at pool and beach. The beach is beautiful and seaweed is machined off each morning. The water was clear and beautiful and the sand soft.....no water shoes needed. Food was good (normal all-inclusive) and no reservations are needed in ala-cartes. Plenty of public bathrooms and bars for a small resort. If you are looking for a lot of entertainment this is not for you. I liked it quiet...just wanted to eat, read and swim in a clean, relaxed, safe environment. Grounds are well maintained. Our check in was very smooth even though I read some reviews who said theirs was not. I had a massage in the spa and I negotiated the price. All in all a surprisingly good resort for a 4 star, unless you want people to wait on you hand and foot.

All that we needed!

This hotel was better than I thought it would be! We found a really cheap deal through Apple Vacations the last week of September. My husband is Dominican, so we were doing some visiting with the in-laws, but wanted to stay at an all-inclusive as it made it easier for our kids (we have a 7 year old and an 18 month old). Just to give you some insight, I am American, but actually lived and worked in Punta Cana for a year, and have stayed at quite a few resorts prior (Bavaro Princess, Caribe Club Princess, Grand Palladium, Melia Tropical, Eden NH (I think it is Now Larimar now), Dreams Punta Cana, Dreams Palm Beach, Natura Park, and Ocean Blue & Sand). We booked a superior garden view room, but we were placed in a first floor pool view room in building 4. We literally only had to walk 10 steps from our room to jump into pool. Our room was one of the updated ones, with a king sized bed and pull out couch. This resort is small, which was definitely a perk for me. I have been in too many resorts where you waste so much time walking and trying to get a tram to get you where you need to go! You do have to pay $2 a day to have use of the safe, which was a first for me. Initially, they provided us with 2 towels, but all it took was a phone call and we got some more towels. Our power went out on day 2, but someone came the same day and fixed whatever the issue was. If there was an issue, they fixed it – so nothing really to complain about in regards to that. The shower always had hot water and had wonderful water pressure. We ate at the buffet for every meal since it was just easier for us to do that instead of sitting at a restaurant waiting for someone to serve us while our 18 month old would want to be running around. The food was typical for a Dominican resort. It was good, they switched it up, and we always found something to eat (Tip: If you want American food, don’t leave the USA). There was no one really waiting on you at the buffet, you go up and get your own drinks. I actually liked this better than sitting and waiting for someone else to bring me my coffee in the morning! The beach was beautiful and clean. In my opinion, this hotel is located in one of the best spots on the beach. (Just FYI, the more north you go from the airport, the uglier the beach is.) We could always find a spot on the beach and around the pool – there was no stealing of beach chairs or anything crazy like that. The pool was nice, and offered shallower areas for the kiddos. This resort does not have a pool bar, which is a good thing – less pee in the pool, I am sure. My only complaint was the 1950s American music they would play in the morning – I got tired of hearing it over and over again. My kids had a blast with the activities – my 7 year old did water aerobics, games on the beach, and the mini disco every night. We did some crafts at the kids club and hit up the beachside playground daily. The white party / beach party was a lot of fun. The majority of the shows were typical, but the one that is a must-see is the Circus show. The guys in this Circus are amazing! It seems a lot of people like to complain about the lack of wi-fi. We had absolutely no issue with getting wi-fi in the lobby, at the theater, or around the patio near the lobby. I personally do not understand why you need to be connected 24/7 in every area of the resort while you are on vacation, honestly. Trust me, you will survive if you cannot upload your beach selfie to your facebook profile immediately!!! I have stayed at plenty of places where you would need to pay to sit at their internet café to connect. I’ve also had to pay for wi-fi in the states. I really do not understand all the boo hooing – first world problems, I guess! I would definitely recommend this resort for families. If you want a turn down service and a chocolate on your pillow – this resort is not for you. If you want a drunken spring break bash – this resort is not for you. All in all, we had a great week at VIK Arena and we will definitely return. What we got was way more than we imagined for the cheap price we paid.
