I returned to the Vic Cayena Beach Club 2 years later, and once again had a superior vacation time. This time, as a time share owner, which brings special perks. So whats new? Upon arrival, I learned the hard way that the airport has two terminals, so if meeting someone, be sure you know which terminal they will arrive at. The transfer to and from the airport to the beach club (previously $30 expense one way), is now covered by the resort. Check-in was easy for Beach Club members, and all inclusive food and drink fees are substantially reduced for owners. The room was beautiful, views spectacular, with maid service daily. They still provide drinks (cola, beer and water) in mini refrigerators, continually stocked. Still have free wi-fi. We discovered that the "beach front" at the Vic Cayena is now gone. In place, is now an exclusive (members only), elevated beach front. (There is still beach at the nearby hotel). Lounge chairs are still cushioned (need to get there early to get your spot), towels provided, but now instead of palapas, there are umbrellas.
The exclusive "Cano", restaurant that serves Cayena beach club only members lunch and breakfast is still a wonderful luxury. The private bar is also a nice touch. They renovated the private Vic Cayena pool as well, and is great for kids. Vic Cayena members still have full access to all the amenities of the nearby Arena Blanca Hotel. Besides the main buffet, there are three specialty restaurants (Mexican, Italian, Seafood), that we tried. All good, although a shrimp dish at the seafood restaurant had us coming back for seconds. Supposed to dress more formally at those restaurants, but some do not follow rules. The resort still caters to Europeans and Canadians, with Americans in the minority. The nightly evening entertainment has not changed much from two years ago. Similar themes, different acts. Technical difficulties with the sound/music was an embarrassment to performers.
A supplemental perk, again for time share owners only, was a free 30-45 minute catamaran, ride, and a half day "booze cruise" to a sand bar. I did a paid "discovery" scuba dive which was fun. Beach Volleyball games occur more often than the activity schedule might indicate, but you just have to check in visually to know when they are. Of course they keep score in French. Don't bother with snorkel equipment, as there are few fish to see that way. The upkeep of the beach is excellent with daily raking and seaweed pickup. Pizza, burgers and franks are still available at any time at the hotel area, and there are games and activities orchestrated by the "animation" team.

just back from a fabulous week at VIK Cayena. beautiful beach with plenty of shade and comfortable padded recliners, and not crammed in tight like neighboring resorts. it was very quite, clean and relaxing. was on the 3rd floor-room 306 (nice view) only complaint was the AC. in our room wasn't working. reported it and they came to check it and said it was hot because we were on the 3rd floor. room 305 said their's was too cold! was also surprised they have no wash clothes! so bring your own! Plenty of nice toiletries, and stocked refrigerators with soda, beer and water. breakfast at Elcano was super! (great omelets!) and bartender Antonio was great! read the reviews prior to going...bring you own travel cup! as drinks are served in small glasses. the food at restaurants were ok...not alot of choices for American food...we stuck to the chicken dishes which were very good...same menus every night. the outside grill at Area Blanca had good pizza , hotdogs and fries. the main office personal was very nice and helpful (Niki, Melanie, Barbara and Ezikiel) and spoke good English. the waiters in restauraunts didn't speak much english, nor did the MC,s at the shows (which were great!) would definitely go back! have a massage with Angela, excellent! and also spoke good English!
Exactly what we needed!

We did not want a mega resort that required a golf cart to get around. We wanted to a short walk from our room to the beach and restaurants. We didn't want to wake up early to reserve a lounger on the beach. We didn't want to make reservations at the restaurants. We didn't want watered down drinks. We didn't want screaming kids at the pool and beach. We didn't want issues with towels. We wanted decent food options and an excellent beach for some much needed R&R. The VIK offered nightly entertainment and day activities. The spa massage was worth every penny. The staff were all very personable. We got everything we wanted in this resort. Great value!! It was very hard to leave.

We spent two weeks back to back through Interval Int'l from Nov.8th-22nd. I did email the resort about needing a lower level floor due to no elevators and being handicapped. My emails were always responded quickly from Barbara. Thank you Barbara! My needs were met upon arrival a ground floor room, which was nothing special not complaining about that at all. I know some rooms are remodeled, and speaking of that spending 2 weeks on your 30th anniversary right smack dab next to a room they are remodeling is NO FUN!..Could of been but they construct or remodel 7 days a week and some nights past 10pm! Sorry banging, drilling, removing old tile until after 10pm my husband who is very laid back even said one night come on guys it's after 10pm? They said nothing, gave him that dirty look of you know what and continued. What would crack us up is they were all there ready to work at 7am and stand around doing nothing for 2 hours! No where was I told of construction either by email or on Interval's website. That was our only reason we didn't give Cayena Beach 5 stars.
The people were awesome all that have been mentioned are so wonderful and warm people who work their butts off! Which, we did tip and tip and tip breakfast, lunch, dinner at the other restaurants and with each beer or drink ordered. Because they work their butts off! Leave them a tip people couldn't believe how many don't and not to be disrespectful but it's a lot of Europeans that don't tip at all and younger people. If you can afford a vacation like that then tip the employee's that are serving you and making your vacation special!!!
We thought the food at El Cano was really great, we never got sick at all. I actually have a immune system illness and was really worried about getting ill, never did. I mean, come on yes your in a foreign country we go to Mexico quite a bit. Yes, the food on our digestive systems is different if you can't figure that out then stay in the states or where ever your from. It's so annoying people giving poor reviews and they probably have rarely traveled much.
I would go back here from the west coast it was a long travel day. I could understand east coast traveling to the DR. I would probably go to Hawaii honestly from the west coast only cause it's easier on me. But, I have already told my east coast friends how much I loved Cayena Beach. I thought all the restaurants were good except the Mexican cause I live in Arizona and we have way to many excellent Mexican restaurants here. But, I really enjoyed our two weeks there and only ate at the buffet twice once at dinner it was fine typical buffet and breakfast. The El Cano was really good food I thought. The beach was nice, we were bothered by Juan Claude for to attend the timeshare. We told him many times we were NOT interested in buying another one! I did make my husband laugh saying some other reviewer said he pops out of bushes and everywhere which he did! After a few days of no and no and no he got the message! My rating of poor sleep was only because of the construction noise not the bed or pillows!
