First Vacation Together

My boyfriend and I came to DR for our very first vacation as a couple. He'd never been to an all inclusive resort. We loved Gran Ventana! The staff was AMAZING. They were very kind and helpful. The food was delicious. The grounds were well maintained and the ocean was to die for. The only annoying thing was the hustlers on the beach but the hotel can't really control that. It was a great first vacation together. I could recommend this venue to others.

The hotel and staff were great! I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms, bathroom and entire hotel. Everything was amazing. My only complaint was that the pillows in the rooms were very uncomfortable and lumpy.

Food!

Food was decent but the variety was not. I was with my boyfriend who is a vegetarian and he had a difficult time finding things to eat without meat. Even things that did not require meat in them had meat.

We won't be back, but it was a nice getaway

This was our third time in the Dominican Republic. The first two times were in Punta Cana and we wanted to try something a little different this trip. Arrival at the airport: Apple vacations was easy to spot in their Hawaiian print shirts. The representative was friendly, welcomed us to the Dominican Republic and directed us to a bus that would bring us to the hotel. The bus was relativly comfortable and had A/C. Overall the ride was uneventful and took about 25 minutes. Arrival at the hotel: We arrived with one other couple at the hotel. An Apple representative retrieved the room keys from the front desk and gave us a quick overview of the hotel, the restaurants, our shuttle pickup time for return to the airport, and offered some different tours/excursions. We also received some chilled juice of some sort and a cold towel. Overall it was a smooth check-in and took minimal time. The room: The room was well kept and had a nice tropical feel. A mini fridge was stocked daily with water (don't drink the tap water), beer, and soda. The room was always clean when we returned. Alright, so you are probably thinking... "Why won't they be back? This sounds all good so far." And you would be right, this portion was all good... Let's continue. Food and Drinks Buffet food was mediocre at best. The octopus grill was the best on this trip. Italian was pretty good as well They did not have a single 'real' fruit juice to mix with at any of the bars or restaurants. The Orange Juice was some sort of imitation Tang / Orange Gatorade hybrid that was way too sweet, the pineapple juice was some sort of syrup, same with passion fruit juice, guava juice, and anything else ending in "juice." If you need to pick a mixer go with lemonade or cranberry. The alcohol itself was pretty terrible. Imagine the cheapest liquor you could buy, then cut that with some water. Overall the bartenders were rude and did not know how to make a good drink. Presidente beer was available, but also meh. Beach: The beach was gorgeous. White sands, clear water, good snorkeling... But the vendors were a nightmare. Literally every 3-5 minutes one would approach and try to sell you something. Cheap jewelry, cigars, horseback rides, etc. Even if you were polite and told them no, they would come back 5 minutes later. This killed the relaxation. Overall thoughts: 1) Look for somewhere with a private beach 2) Bar staff and drinks were poor 3) Food at buffet was always the same and not that good

The room was adequate but could have used a dresser for clothing and a comfortable chair. Only furniture was bed with two nite stands, a desk and a television cabinet. Also a wall mirror would have been nice.

The rooms in this hotel could use a lot of updating as they appeared to be tired and old. The beach and pools and common areas were all really nice. The only real problem we had with the hotel is that even though we went to make reservations for the restaurants as soon as we were able to we were only to make them for 1 night out of 5. They were either all booked up or closed. Some nights only one restaurant was open. I finally complained enough times and they got us into another night but it was the same restaurant so we had to eat there 2 times. This is unacceptable; if I want to eat at a buffet all the time I can do that at home. When we did eat at the restaurants they only appeared to be 2/3 full so I think that this issue needs to be addressed. The Apple reps did a nice job of all transfers.

Very Enjoyable Return Visit

We just returned from Gran Ventana after a 2 wk stay. We (my wife and I) had a great time. We previously stayed here in 2015. It was nice to see so many familiar faces on the staff. They are without a doubt a very hard working group! We took advantage of the premium upgrade and we feel it was worth the money. The access to the Vintage Club with top shelf liquor and excellent service, private beach area, and additional al la cartes made our stay all the more enjoyable. We spent 99% of our time at the beach. Many thanks to the guys servicing the private beach area. Great service! Special thanks to Laura, our concierge. She arranged all of our restaurants and anything else we needed. Very nice lady! The daily towel exchange in our package was a very nice touch! The food here is fantastic! We ate most of our evening meals at the al la cartes. Great food all around but our favorite was the Italian. The buffet had lots of excellent choices at all meals. The sweets are dangerous. You will gain weight! The service at the al la cartes was excellent. The service at the buffet could be a bit spotty depending on the time of day you arrived or where you happened to sit but we felt it wasn't a big issue .The beach buffet also offered a smaller but excellent choice for lunch. The various soups they had were excellent. Our room was on the 2nd floor of the Saona building with a nice ocean view. Our fridge was replenished daily and the maids kept everything nice and clean with a well stocked supply of bathroom items. Speaking of clean, this resort is one of the cleanest we've every stayed at! To close out, we are glad we returned to Gran Ventana and hope to return again!

NICE RESORT...

We made the trip to VH Gran Ventana via Sunwing from Moncton airport from April13-20/2018 and included my wife, and daughter/husband and 2 little grandaughters. First of all the trip to the resort was fast, customs quick, only a 20 minute drive to the Playa Dorado area. Our only major issue was at check in. We had asked our travel agent for adjoining rooms and they were on the same floor but 25 doors to the right, they offered to switch closer but only the "next day", our room had a terrible view of the street...anyway. The resort was very clean, friendly staff, amazing food, especially the ocean grill and Italian restaurants. The buffet's were great, lots to choose from, those staff work very hard. Drinks were great, heads up to Fausto for being very nice to me. We only stayed one day on the beach, very windy. Water warm, not great for snorkling, but able to see some fish. Pool area loud at times but we enjoyed the games.. spent a day at the "quiet" pool as our rooms were in that building. Probably the smallest resort we have ever been at, the really need to make a better access walkway from the "quiet" pool building to the main one, only a 2-3 minute walk but dangerous due to traffic and have to walk on street.(the wi-fi worked well but at a cost, I believe $35 for the week, safe was $20 as well) All in all a beautiful resort, we would return and will recommend. We went on 2 excursions, one booked through Sunwing to Ocean world, this was amazing, everyone should go here at least once, just to see dolphins, great value for money and the pools were great for kids. Also took a taxi to the cable car mountain, the cab cost $45US for all 6 of us and he stayed at the bottom to wait and drove us to the Brugal factory gift shop to purchase cheap rum, we felt very safe, we gave him a generous tip for the experience...we tipped staff often..a dollar here and there goes a long way...good luck

Awful from the start. I love looking at a parking lot from our room. My 13 year old daughter was nervous about the barbed wire fence and cars 10 ft from us but the resort doesn’t care. “ come back tomorrow “ brutal. They just laughed at us . This is day 1 . Should be fun.

We stayed at the VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort the week of April 12th to April 19th. Upon Arrival Staff was very professional and curtious. Arriving at night we were advised we could have dinner at the Buffet then be escorted to our room afterwards. We were placed in the Beata Building which is outside of the main resort grounds but just a stone throw away. This building has its own quiet pool area along with a Tiki Bar. Room was 3345 . Very Spacious and Clean, Great Maid Service and Fridge was stocked everyday with Pop/Water and Beer. Food Was Good A lot of Selection, no complaints from us on food. There was a Beach Bar and The Ocean Grill Restaurant so if you are Beach People like we are no real need to go back to your room during the day as there conveniently is a bathroom behind the Ocean Grill Restaurant. All Public Area Bathrooms were very clean at all times. Washed and Restocked at least 3 times a day. Grounds were lush with greenery and flowers, walkways were kept very clean. There were the normal amount of activities by the pool and shows everynight including Kariokee from 8:30 to 9:30 before the shows start. Prior to Kariokee there is a kids show. Beach Towel Service was excellent always were towels in supply. Just as an FYI there is a Mall that sells Souveniers, has a Sports Bar and Disco which we thought was very convenient. There is also a Theatre that plays English and Spanish Movies. Also a Kids entertainment centre in the Mall and on the Resort grounds. Everything at the resort is centrally located and easily accessible. Safe's are not free here though they charge $16 American for a Safe key for the week. Also if booking with Sunwing they cover the cost for entry into the Domincan however do not cover the $20 a person departure fee. So keep that in mind... if traveling thru West Jest I believe the cover the cost both ways. Beach was always clean, water pretty much clear there is a barrier reef that breaks the big waves. There is snorkeling less than 4 feet from shore with a variety of fish to be seen, so bring your snorkeling geer and enjoy. They will rent you equipment as well. Overall had a great time and would highly recommend this resort.
