This is a good resort, not to big not to small. We have a ocean view room. The food is good and the burgers are the best. The staff is super friendly and attentive. The beach is good and calm, the water is crystal clear. This resort is for families and couples. The hotel is very clean. They only need to improve the rooms a little(put a coffee machine, irons, a bigger tv, etc. ) Thanks VH.

Yoga on the Beach

The Dominican Republic gifted me with a warm and wonderful welcome daily coupled with kind and fun people everywhere I went ;) The fact that I got to call these beaches and this country “mine” for 3 weeks was truly amazing! And, what could be better than warm weather, fresh tropical fruits, smiling faces, fun entertainment staff and unlimited pina colada?! I’ll tell you what, YOGA ON THE BEACH ... daily classes of Beach yoga with the sun kissing your skin, breeze brushing your shoulders and the waves lulling you into deep relaxation was totally blissful. It was my first visit but is certainly not going to be my last trip here.

Good, Bad and the Ugly

Start with the good - Stayed for 14 days between 19 Sep and 3 Oct 2018 and the hotel appeared under occupied and fairly quiet initially. The food was very good in all restaurants including the main buffet. The beach and pools had plenty of sun beds and the beach was more for relaxing and had plenty of fixed parasols (constructed from wood and palm leaf) which were well maintained and not too close to each other. Staff were in abundance and were generally very helpful, friendly and courteous always providing a very efficient service. Hotel room, toilets and general areas were all kept clean. Late room check out (i.e. 1300) hours was free. Now for the Bad and Ugly – On arrival we were allocated a room that had a serious damp/humidity problem even though the A/C was on constantly bed sheets and clothing was damp. The room was constantly damp and ceramic tiled floors became worse and even wet overnight. After three nights and several dangerous slips in our room we complained to our representative and were immediately allocated a much better dry room with no damp issues. Thanks to the TUI rep (Philisa). The all inclusive package alcoholic drinks selection included a choice of several cocktails, numerous local spirits and one local draught beer however we found drinks to be of a weak alcoholic strength. As a general rule all bars served drinks in reusable plastic glasses however you could request your drink in a glass, subject to availability and if you were lucky you got one but glass was not always available (except for restaurants when seated at a table). The hotel was occupancy increased dramatically on both weekends of our stay with the influx of a lot of loud local families on what appeared to be mini weekend breaks. This changed the hotel ambiance from a relaxed quiet place to the opposite and put a damper on our peaceful holiday. Although the beach has routine cleaning teams daily to collect the seaweed and sea grass from the sand there is still a lot of plastic not being picked up mainly straws and single use plastic cups and also lots of discarded cigarette butts. Being an advanced certified open water diver and experienced snorkeler one of our main reasons for visiting this resort was the good snorkelling tripadviser reviews. It was disappointing to find during our 2 weeks stay, conditions only allowed me to snorkel twice in 14 days. The sea was constantly turbulent and choppy in the house reef/bay and it had no protection from the elements. The sea bed and water depth was very irregular and in my opinion not deep enough for safe snorkelling without damage to the sea bed and corals. Our 2 attempts to snorkel were not a good experience; visibility was poor although we did manage to see a few fish the conditions and weather were not good. We decided to try a snorkelling trip along the road at Sosua beach having been recommended by the resort ‘Seapro’ representative although this was slightly better the visibility was still disappointing and a waste of $80 on the trip. Kite surfing took place very close (at the right hand side of the resort beach) most surfers were very professional and provided a good source of entertainment during the day. However on more than one occasion I witnessed irresponsible surfers (not sure if these were learning) coming far too close to guests and families in the sea. No need to take risks as there was ample unused sea further to their right!! Would I return - having previously snorkelled at numerous other resorts in the Dominican Republic I became addicted and because of this I become a certified diver in the DR. However I can honestly say this was my worst snorkelling experience by far in the DR and although other aspects of the resort and staff were good and I can appreciate this will suit some people however unfortunately I doubt I will return.
