First Vacation Together

My boyfriend and I came to DR for our very first vacation as a couple. He'd never been to an all inclusive resort. We loved Gran Ventana! The staff was AMAZING. They were very kind and helpful. The food was delicious. The grounds were well maintained and the ocean was to die for. The only annoying thing was the hustlers on the beach but the hotel can't really control that. It was a great first vacation together. I could recommend this venue to others.

The food was great. Towels were never in our room when we needed them. Staff would look away from you when passing in the hallways.

The hotel and staff were great! I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms, bathroom and entire hotel. Everything was amazing. My only complaint was that the pillows in the rooms were very uncomfortable and lumpy.

Food was decent but the variety was not. I was with my boyfriend who is a vegetarian and he had a difficult time finding things to eat without meat. Even things that did not require meat in them had meat.

This was our third time in the Dominican Republic. The first two times were in Punta Cana and we wanted to try something a little different this trip. Arrival at the airport: Apple vacations was easy to spot in their Hawaiian print shirts. The representative was friendly, welcomed us to the Dominican Republic and directed us to a bus that would bring us to the hotel. The bus was relativly comfortable and had A/C. Overall the ride was uneventful and took about 25 minutes. Arrival at the hotel: We arrived with one other couple at the hotel. An Apple representative retrieved the room keys from the front desk and gave us a quick overview of the hotel, the restaurants, our shuttle pickup time for return to the airport, and offered some different tours/excursions. We also received some chilled juice of some sort and a cold towel. Overall it was a smooth check-in and took minimal time. The room: The room was well kept and had a nice tropical feel. A mini fridge was stocked daily with water (don't drink the tap water), beer, and soda. The room was always clean when we returned. Alright, so you are probably thinking... "Why won't they be back? This sounds all good so far." And you would be right, this portion was all good... Let's continue. Food and Drinks Buffet food was mediocre at best. The octopus grill was the best on this trip. Italian was pretty good as well They did not have a single 'real' fruit juice to mix with at any of the bars or restaurants. The Orange Juice was some sort of imitation Tang / Orange Gatorade hybrid that was way too sweet, the pineapple juice was some sort of syrup, same with passion fruit juice, guava juice, and anything else ending in "juice." If you need to pick a mixer go with lemonade or cranberry. The alcohol itself was pretty terrible. Imagine the cheapest liquor you could buy, then cut that with some water. Overall the bartenders were rude and did not know how to make a good drink. Presidente beer was available, but also meh. Beach: The beach was gorgeous. White sands, clear water, good snorkeling... But the vendors were a nightmare. Literally every 3-5 minutes one would approach and try to sell you something. Cheap jewelry, cigars, horseback rides, etc. Even if you were polite and told them no, they would come back 5 minutes later. This killed the relaxation. Overall thoughts: 1) Look for somewhere with a private beach 2) Bar staff and drinks were poor 3) Food at buffet was always the same and not that good

The room was adequate but could have used a dresser for clothing and a comfortable chair. Only furniture was bed with two nite stands, a desk and a television cabinet. Also a wall mirror would have been nice.

The rooms in this hotel could use a lot of updating as they appeared to be tired and old. The beach and pools and common areas were all really nice. The only real problem we had with the hotel is that even though we went to make reservations for the restaurants as soon as we were able to we were only to make them for 1 night out of 5. They were either all booked up or closed. Some nights only one restaurant was open. I finally complained enough times and they got us into another night but it was the same restaurant so we had to eat there 2 times. This is unacceptable; if I want to eat at a buffet all the time I can do that at home. When we did eat at the restaurants they only appeared to be 2/3 full so I think that this issue needs to be addressed. The Apple reps did a nice job of all transfers.

First stay a pleasant surprise

Stay a Gran Ventana for six days and had a great time. Resort is in a great location in a beautiful peaceful area called Playa Dorado. Room was located in a quiet section of the complex near a quiet pool. A bit of a walk from the hotels central area and beach but we loved the peacefulness. Room was very spacious and housekeeping keeps complex meticulous. Buffet food offers a great variety and food is good. There are 3 speciality restaurants which were good also. The Staff at the Octopus restaurant seemed uninterested in the guests and manager was crabby. Bar staff were very nice and attentive. Wine was HORRIBLE and served out of jugs that looked like what windshield washer fluid is stored in. Hotel offered bottled wine for an extra charge but it was very pricey. Rooms were comfortable but pillows were like sandbags. Check in was quick but front desk staff offered no information about the complex and just pointed to the general area of our room and said find it over there. No info regarding signing up for specialty restaurants, internet or room safe was offered. So front staff service could be improved especially for first time visitors. All in all, would definitely consider going back.

We stayed here for three weeks from 12th Dec to 2nd Jan and overall was ok but nothing like the great reviews you see and cannot find a reason why i would want to come back. We had paid for the upgrade which overall was not worth the money if you pay the full price we made use of the beach most days but as for the vintage club its nice but just too quiet. The beach service was good but the beach is very average seen a lot better in mexico and jamaica. The main pool always seemed quite lively the other pool never used. Food was ok but the xmas and New years eve gala dinner were very poor the worst i have seen so far apart from a few disaplaysround the buffet it was just your normal ever day choice. As for the so called alcarte resturants that they are not in anybodys wildest dreams just waiter service which can be poor and rushed all they want to do it serve you and get you out as quick as possible. New Years Eve They should have implemeneted a reservation system but the rep told us that since the hotel was not fully booked they had decided not to bother. We went down at 8pm had to queue to get in which was not a problem but when taken to our table it was not made up when they did we asked if could change table cloth since it had food stains from previous diners only to be told they did not have any clean ones , the napkin was paper and after waiting over 10 mins went and got our own drinks from the bar overall the whole nights experince was very poor and badly organised. The room was fine but was nothing special if this is what they called a superior room god knows what the rest are like. The staff are friendly but no more than most other places i have been. Overall itwas a nice break but cannot see what the attraction is to return year after year. I personally would not recommend this hotel far better out there for same money.

Just back from a relaxing 2 week stay. Arrived later as planned but check in pretty smooth. The room was OK, big but needing a little refreshing. Hotel facilities pretty good with a nice clean pool area and a good beach area. Three bars for drinks and plenty of places to grab food. The buffet restaurant has a very good selection and found the Italian the best of the specialty restaurants. Animation team worked hard to keep people amused and the hotel staff were excellent. You'll need to get up early to get a sunbed with a shade and have patience with the free Wi-Fi. Overall a very good two weeks.

We stayed in this hotel in week between Christmas and New Year! We loved the location, the facilities and mostly the friendly personnel and the animator team. Our kids - girl (5 years old) and boy (14 years old) found the experience amazing! The aqua Zumba lessons in the pool, on the beach, the amazing pool party with many balloons and a lot of fun for the adults and the kids, make the Xmas experience memorable for the whole family. We will come back! Definitely!

Great family experience and FANTASTIC entertainment!

Our holiday at Gran Ventana was a great experience. We arrived after a 10+ hour trip coming from Europe, and were happy to see the transport from the airport to the hotel was fluent and comfortable. After about half an hour we arrived in a world of welcoming warmth, smiles, fun and sunshine. The food selection is great and a lot of variety, and the a la carte restaurants provide an occasional difference scene and flavour. With kids though, we found it easier to go to the buffet, and have them select the things they like, on top of the things we propose for their daily dose of vitamins and greens. Where this hotel really shines is with their entertainment team. Especially Alessandro, Robert, Chocolate and the lady from the Kids Club all deserve our warmest grattitude as do all of their colleagues. The daily bacchata lessons and especially the AMAZING zumba classes by internationally renowned Zumba instructor Svetlana from Belgium were a thrill and a highlight. So was the pool volleyball tournament against the Entertainment team. We BEAT you guys. Yeeeeeeaah! We 'll consider allowing you a rematch next year... ;)
