If you are accustomed to superb service and hotel staff understanding your needs this is NOT a place for you. Messed up the booking and caused me to spend hours and hours on the phone with my booking agent. Not willing to make any concessions to satisfy a customer. Never again. Stay away!!!!

Missing many things.. . will make a different choice next time.

We have been to numerous resorts in Mexico, all 4 and 5 star. Unfortunately, Ventus didn't match up to others. Here are our reasons: 1.) Beach is full of seaweed. It's so sad to see a beautiful beach that is full of seaweed and workers and dump trucks and backhoes out there daily trying to clean it up. It's a never ending job and if you are there on the beach, it's hard not to feel so sorry for all of the workers with wheelbarrows not able to make much of a difference when it is really windy and it just keeps blowing in. There is no getting in the ocean when the wind is blowing in the weeds. 2.) We have concerns about sanitation and the water. Both my husband and I got sick with GI disturbances. This has never happened. I was suspicious of another reviewer who stated that the bottles of water did not have safety seals. I thought they must have been wrong. That reviewer was right. The liter bottles do not have safety seals. One morning I figured out why. They apparently fill the water bottles at the resort. I know this as I saw them unloading empty, new, topless bottles off of the truck and into a building next to the Italian restaurant. I believe it is the back of the conference center. They come in large, prepacked wrapped cases of 100's. I asked the worker about it and he confirmed that they fill the bottles there. Hence no safety seal. Now, they obviously have a filtration system, but after we I saw that and after we were both sick, we stopped drinking water out of the liter bottles. The smaller bottles and the sparking water bottles have safety seals. 3,) Reservations for restaurants was annoying and frustrating. After check in we went to the concierge counter to book reservations for our evening dinners. You can only book 2 at a time, and the only available times were 8:30 or 9:00 at night. We are not the kind of people that like to eat that late and then go to bed. Frustrating. We did book, though, to experience the restaurants. Unfortunately, the 3 we tried were absolutely disappointment. We didn't even go the 4th one. Which leads to #4. Before that, you should know that they will not let you in the restaurants without a reservation. We saw multiple people turned away even though the restaurant was half full. It doesn't make sense. It just makes people more frustrated and it dampers their vacations to see that inefficiency. 4.) Food in restaurants is so disappointing, it is almost not believable. First, let me tell you the presentations are really beautiful. But the actual quality and taste would render any normal restaurant closed within months. I could give you multiple details, but it would belabor the point. One of the meals was so bad that we just left half way through the meal because taking one bite of each thing and then wasting the rest was embarrassing for us. We went to the buffet instead which was only a little better. Now, we are foodies and we are fortunate to dine out frequently, at multiple types of restaurants and levels. We are great cooks. Our expectations are probably higher than the average person. We just couldn't imagine the average person finding the food delicious. We were thankful for Mercado. We found some nice choices there. 5.) Rooms are noisy as others have said. We were in room 23 and you could hear the next door guest coughing. The resort grounds are beautiful as pictures show, the employees are kind and mostly helpful people. Being in the Mexico sun is a privilege. If you do go here, we would recommend having low expectations and then you might be happily surprised,

Great Trip over Easter Break

This was my second trip to Marina El Cid. Our first trip was October 2016. This trip we were three families traveling for Easter break and we stayed at the new portion Ventus at Marina El Cid. Our party was 6 adults and 6 teens. Overall it was a great trip and we would return for a third visit. We had booked the original hotel but when we arrived we were told that we had been moved to Ventus. Ventus is the new part of the larger resort with its own lobby. At first I was annoyed because we had to load ourselves back into the airport shuttle to go to the Ventus lobby. I felt the bellboys should have assisted us since the change was on the hotel. We had booked a platinum level room (one bedroom suite with jacuzzi) and check-in was easy and pleasant. We asked to upgrade our room and for a small fee changed our reservation to better room. They do not have Wi-Fi. For a resort of this caliber to still charge $20 a day for Wi-Fi is ridiculous. Our room was brand new, well cleaned, and spacious. My family of four was very comfortable in the 1 bedroom suite. It had two bathrooms which is always a plus. I had to stay in the room 1 day for health reasons and the cleaning staff took their time and were in the room scrubbing floors, etc. for over an hour. This resort has a terrible beach in comparison to other hotels in the area. If you want a beach, do not book this hotel. However, where the beach is lacking, the pools are amazing. The resort designed the layout of the pools perfectly since even during a busy week, each pool was not crowded.. All day there were chair available in prime spots. Pools are a bit chilly when you first enter but they are not freezing as others had reported. I found the pools to be refreshing. There is no swim-up bar on the Ventus side but they have waiter service. Luis was always asking if we needed drinks. He was our favorite waiter the whole trip! The large pool at Ventus is very quiet. Almost no activity. My kids had to walk over the other large pool with cliff jump/slides to have some fun. One big criticism is the big Ventus pool was ignored by the entertainment/photography staff. The only times we got photos taken during the whole 7 days was when my kids stumbled upon them at the other pool with monkeys. 1 day out of 7 the photographers came to the Ventus pool with a toucan. My last trip we used the photographer to take photos of my kids around the resort and I never even saw a photographer this whole trip to ask to arrange (excluding the random toucan siting our 7th day at the resort!). Trying to locate where to see the photos was also challenging. We asked a few staff members and they all gave a different answer, including where the photographers had been in 10/16 but they had moved locations in the resort. The entertainment staff wander around during the day at the Ventus pool and do a few activities but it is really very quiet. I think the resort should at least play music at the pool to liven things up. The food is pretty good. The addition of the new buffet (Mercado Delores) was our favorite part. Set-up like a food court, there was something for everyone and we never tired of it. At dinner we tried a different restaurant. The French and Italian were the best. The Marina was still my least favorite. One criticism is that we were able to get reservations for each night, but some nights were 9pm. That would be OK but the restaurants were always empty and eating that late prevent us from seeing shows and other activities planned each night on the resort. Overall this was a great vacation. I would recommend this hotel.

Excellent get away!

The food is fabulous. Paola and the rest of the staff are very pleasant and fun to be around. We had a great time. Great entertainment nightly. Concerts. Games. Mini Broadway style shows. Very talented entertainers.

Beware of Rip Off, Lies and Condescending Attitude by Senior Staff

It is important that you are aware that I am a Platinum Plus Member, VIP. I have stayed at Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort a few times, three times last year, 2017. I have always enjoyed my experiences there, except for our last trip in Feb/Mar. 2018 (two weeks). The maids, waiters, hostesses, butlers, all do a wonderful job. However, the company is employing underhand methods to rip you off! I have emailed them several times and have not received a response to my letter. I gave El Cid a timeline in which to reply. They did not. To be treated like this, especially as I am a member, is a slap in the face. This is my horrible experience and rip off by El Cid. When I called to my reservation, I was told (by Tina) that El Cid was fully booked, but Ventus had available space for the first week. So I said I would take Ventus for two weeks. There was an extra charge for Ventus,154,000 points as opposed to 105,000 for El Cid. Imagine our surprise when we discovered our room was in an El Cid building, #22. I went to the Platinum Club, Ventus, to ask why we had been placed in an El Cid building. I was referred to the Platinum Club, El Cid. They referred me to the room where people are encouraged to buy memberships to El Cid. I was informed that people have complained about this but once it is explained to them, they go away happy and also the extra cost is "only" 20%, not 50%plus as I have been charged. I did not receive an explanation for this blatant rip off and the lies. On all the brochures advertising Ventus, only the new built, white coloured buildings are shown. Not buildings 21, 22 and 23, once yellow, now painted white. These three buildings have been around for a few years as part of Marina El Cid. So, beware of being told no room at El Cid but plenty of room in Ventus. Beware of the incredibly higher prices, points if a member, being charged for Ventus. Before we arrived, I had emailed request for more hangers to be placed in the room. Even asking in person did not result in more hangers. I asked that the Murphy Bed be made up. It was not. Our Butler made it up for us. I asked for towels for the bathroom (only one towel). This request was met with incredulity! No-one turned up with more towels. I finally discovered two more towels underneath the basins outside the bathroom. The main buffet restaurant which used to be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner is now open for breakfast daily, and maybe once or twice during the week for dinner. There is a "market" called Delorosa in the Ventus area. Aptly named. Roast beef bun in the fresh food area is pitiful; small bit of lettuce, one slice of tomato so thin one can see through it and one tiny sliver of roast beef. I did take it back to the server and he placed a reasonable amount of roast beef on the bun. I was there celebrating my 70th birthday. I had booked into the French restaurant (bistro) for that evening and had mentioned this on my previous visit, plus also when making the dinner reservation. I noticed several people being sung to, etc., etc., during our visits. My birthday was totally ignored. Luckily, I had mentioned it to our wonderful Butler, Fernando. That night our room was strewn with streamers, balloons, and a bottle of wine and birthday cake, together with card given to me earlier that day from my friend, nicely set up on the table. The fact that we were in an old El Cid building, at enormous extra cost, with no explanation, is very worrying. The fact that the main building buffet is open only for breakfast and once or twice for dinner is very sad because the Delorosa market place is a very sorry alternative. This last visit has left a very bad taste in my mouth.
