Won't Go Back
BRIANA B.
Dec 16 2013
This hotel was definitely not the star rating that was advertised. We upgraded with Apple Vacations to an ocean view room, and the hotel said this was not communicated to them, resulting in a big delay upon arrival, and changing rooms 3 times - The whole first day of our vacation was wasted. Almost every one of the staff at this hotel was completely rude and seemed unhappy and/or lazy. No one came to clean our room for 3 days, and when they finally did, had an attitude towards us. The cost for this vacation was overpriced, and although the hotel was all-inclusive, we ended up going elsewhere to eat most of the time since the food was less than par. The beach was pretty during the day, but I didn't feel safe going out to the beach at night, since someone was always waiting to sell drugs or hit on me, and would get angry when they were denied. I would not recommend this hotel to friends, and I most likely won't be going back to Barbados.

The staff could not do enough to make our stay enjoyable! We were bothered by the birds who constantly attempted to compete for food on our tables. This would be considered a health hazard in the United States!

Great location and attentive staff

The staff were plentiful and extremely attentive, allocated roon 441 which was lovely with a lush beach view, yes there is seaweed along the whole of the south coast but beyond anyone’s control. We had a car so went to Carlisle Bay most days, Hotel is a great location within walking distance of the GAP.

No way 4 star hotel

Staff in this hotel are 4 star, but property and food is certainly not!! The room we got was dated but main problem was the shower in the bath, no power shower and the water did not drain away from bath, so you stood in water. After a week, we had a leak in the bathroom ceiling, shouldn't happen when you pay for 4 star accommodation. The sheets and towels are changed and rooms kept clean. The breakfast and lunch are a joke, such a poor standard of food and selection. When it comes to food from the buffet, its poor quality, if you can get booked for one of the two restaurants, which are in the hotel, they are better standard of food, more like what we expected from each meal. The ice cream shop and coffee bar are both excellent. The drinks which are served are good and the bar staff are very friendly, as are all the team in this hotel. Unfortunately, during our 2 week stay, the seaweed was a major problem, but to be fair they did clean it up best they could daily. You could not snorkel in the bay, due to strong currents and you would see nothing. If you wish to sit on the beach, plenty of sun beds, however if you want a bed around the main pool, be ready to get up and reserve you bed at 6am!! Although, they tell you not to do it, it happens daily. We took the opportunity of going to visit the sister hotel Crystal Cove, our lunch served at this hotel was so much better, than our hotel, which was sad. It's $30 american dollars, each way in a taxi to visit this but worth it, also no seaweed on the beach, as you are on the west coast. Sea is very calm and very clean. Entertainment for a 4 star and you get 5 nights of singing from 8.30 - 10pm 1 night of a steel band and one floor show otherwise, nothing else. Same routine the following week. Not very much activities during the day and the spa is certainly not a spa, so don't waste time going.

Not a 4 star resort!

I’m not sure why this resort has been rated as a 4 Star. It is no where close if you have done any type of traveling before. For the price I paid, I was expecting so much more. Staff is very nice so that is not an issue at all. However, the accommodations could use a major renovation. For a double occupancy room, we had twin beds. TWIN. I have not slept in a twin bed since college. The first introduction to the bathroom was awful. It’s old and outdated. Shower/tub had been caulked and recaulked and band-aid fixed so much it looks like something from an old house. And there were tiny ants crawling over the sink!!! I wouldn’t put my stuff down. Called housekeeping and they exterminated, but imagine my paranoia for the rest of the stay. Spa: what spa? Went to visit for a polish change. And found it to be a converted hotel room. It was one room for massages, a few stations for hair and a station for nails. Again, old, outdated and nothing spa-like about it. I was in disbelief that this was labeled as a spa. Food: so far has been fine. Nothing to blow you away that makes this 4 stars. Again, service is the only upside as everyone is extremely pleasant. Some stand out staff members were Nicholas, Judy, Dane, and Melissa. The internet service is awful as if we were on a secluded island. Overall, the location is great as it is very near lots of restaurants, clubs and shopping. But again, the accommodations were not up to standards for a 4 star hotel. Please do some renovations to the rooms. When I return (because I absolutely love Barbados) I’ll be returning to Waves where that is definitely a 4 star.

Not really what we wanted.

We booked a junior suite for ourselves and our 9 and 7-year-old girls, which we received and was large for all of us. There seemed to be a shortage of electrical sockets to charge two tablets, two electric toothbrushes and two telephones simultaneously. The resort is airy and has no cramped feeling to it, despite the occasional queue at meal times. The food was good and varied and drinks delivery was quick. On one occasion we had cause to admonish a waitress for her surly and impolite manner. When we informed the Restaurant Manageress, she resolved the issue to our satisfaction. At other times the restaurant service we received was functionary. Our girls attended the Kids' Club frequently and they always had a good time there. The pool service was quick and frequent and there was ample opportunity to make your own way to the garden bar. The garden restaurant was fine and service delivery was fine too, made enjoyable by a stray young grey cat that appeared every day. Our daughters loved it but we felt that the clientele was not for us and that we had become used to a more sophisticated establishment. The rotting seaweed that made the sea brown and murky did not help as this made playing in the breakers practically impossible. We were reliably informed that seaweed has arrived every summer and departed in autumn for the last four years. Despite efforts to clean it from the beach, it did put a damper on our enjoyment of the hotel.

Lovely resort - spoilt by seaweed :-(

I loved this hotel - the staff are amazing BUT our holiday was ruined by us not knowing about the seaweed :-( I know the hotel cannot help the huge seaweed problem, I am very unhappy with BA not telling us when we booked.. Apparently its a problem which has been ongoing for years. However all of the photos on the BA website show clear blue water. This is not the case, the water is FULL of seaweed and the day we arrived it was actually black (not brown). Until you've experienced the dreaded seaweed you cannot comprehend just how bad it is. Sandals next door had a tractor on the beach trying to clear it away. I complained and the manager got us to Crystal Cove for the day (we had to pay 60 dollars in a taxi) and we also got sent to the Boatyard for the day - both were not far away and had clear sea and sand. We also paid to go to the Boatyard one day (100 dollars to get in and 50 dollars taxi). We loved the beach there but it just made us more sad when we returned to Turtle Beach and couldn't go in the sea. We had a couple of clearer days when my girls managed to Boogie Board - but their white swimsuits were ruined by the black seaweed which was still in the water. Service was brilliant at this hotel - never really had to queue for a drink. Ice cream shop and coffee bar excellent too. Buffet at lunchtime was better than in the evening - too little choice and too many people! Italian was a bit hit and miss with the food too. Overall we had a nice time - not sure it was worth 9k for 2 adults and 2 children White sand and clear sea would have helped. Unfortunately won't return due to seaweed :-(
