Long considered one of the most remarkable resorts in Hawaii, Travaasa Hana (formerly known as Hotel Hana Maui) is now even better. Located in the town of Hana on the eastern tip of Maui, Travaasa Hana is the first resort on the island to greet the rising sun. Set amid rolling grass fields and palm trees above Kaihalulu Bay, Travaasa Hana will immerse you in the real Hawaii.

Geographically, Hana is bookended by spectacular tropical wilderness. To the north and west lies the serpentine Hana Highway (also known as the Road to Hana), where each bend of the journey reveals ravines draped in waterfalls and lush rainforest. To the south and west, the road continues and delivers travelers to the outskirts of Haleakala National Park, where Ohe'o Gulch tumbles to the ocean in a series of magnificent cascades and swimmable pools.

The town of Hana feels like it is a world away from the rest of Maui. So it is only appropriate that these accommodations envelop you in a similar state of mind. Whether you are staying in one of the luxurious bungalows or checking into a spacious suite, you will find the peace and quiet you deserve. Rooms are free of radios, clocks and TVs, so you can fully embrace the low-key vibe of Heavenly Hana.

Experience the heart of Hawaii through diverse course offerings called 'Travaasas.' There are five different pathways for you to explore: Adventure, Culinary, Culture, Fitness, and Spa & Wellness. You won't have any trouble finding something unique. Travaasa is all about experience, even when it comes to dining. From our open-faced Smoked Chicken Salad Sandwich on homemade bread with locally grown sprout salad, to fish wrapped in Ti leaves and Lilikoi Mahi with Hawaiian sweet potato and ginger lime coconut sauce, every meal you enjoy is a reminder that life is for living.

The Spa at Travaasa Hana was voted the 'No. 1 Resort Spa in Hawaii' in Conde Nast Traveler's 2012 Reader's Choice Awards. A deeply relaxing sanctuary of peace and tranquility, a visit to the Spa at Travaasa Hana is sure to restore feelings of balance and wellness to your body, mind, and spirit.

Picturesque views of spectacular waterfalls, a beautifully rugged shoreline, and some of the best beaches on Maui can only begin to describe what awaits you in Hana. The charm of this peaceful town is the fact that little has changed over the last 20 years. It is truly the last undeveloped tropical paradise on Maui.

4th stay at Travassa LOVE this resort! Great staff, amazing view, relaxing calm vibe. This is a great place for a quiet retreat, great for couples, honeymoon, get-away. This was a friends trip and we had a lot of fun!

Beautiful end to the road to Hana. A must!

Was fortunate enough to visit on a beautiful day after driving and exploring the Road to Hana. From checkin to checkout the Travaasa exceeded expectations. The grounds are beautiful. The pool is stunning. The staff pay attention to detail, know your name and have your car waiting for you on your way. The restaurant had the best Mai Tai and excellent snacks. Stay and do the loop the next day.

Pleasure.

I feel a bit badly about only rating it 4/5, but for there is a reason. The hotel is beautiful, and the staff were all very helpful and wonderful. I had absolutely no cell service, (which for me is a bonus, apparently its a T-Mobile thing FYI), and I liked that there were no TVs in the room. I loved that there were a ton of board games you could borrow from the concierge! The restaurant is only open past 5pm, so breakfast and lunch you're on your own. They will deliver takeout, but there are some awesome food trucks and a general store a 5 minute walk away. The rooms are quite spartan, but the cottages are divine. I was traveling solo and was in the "family suite" area, which meant a lot of screeching from children of screeching age. There was a huge family next to me on their outdoor space, and i didn't feel like I could go sit outside as they would have been RIGHT there with no privacy or space at all. Not the fault of the hotel. Hana is an incredibly beautiful place, and I really enjoyed my time there. I think it is worth springing for the cottages, as it would likely be a more private, enjoyable experience. You can't expect to go somewhere so remote and have all of the amenities you are used to, even if you're paying top dollar.

This place is amazing

You come to Maui thinking you get sun and beaches, and you do, but after the road to Hana we wanted to not rush back our drive so opted to stay overnight there. This side of the island is cloudy can be a bit rainy, and mostly rocky surroundings with only a small black sand beach nearby, but this resort isn't about any of that. Its about a totally zen experience in a gorgeous environment. I'm not sure why people are saying this isn't a luxury resort. It is definitely luxurious, the rooms are beautiful and well appointed, amazing views, fantastic staff that are extremely helpful and all the right touches. Also they don't accept tips (they do of course and the restaurant and bars) which completely threw me off at first but really made the experience even better not worrying about rummaging for cash all the time. Restaurant food could be improved but its not bad and the waiters and bartenders are super cool. I don't actually get what the complaints are regarding this place, its expensive but worth it. We had a garden view jr suite which still overlooked the ocean. A+ experience, just know it can be rainy and cloudy here, and the Maui experience is a little different.
