Long considered one of the most remarkable resorts in Hawaii, Travaasa Hana (formerly known as Hotel Hana Maui) is now even better. Located in the town of Hana on the eastern tip of Maui, Travaasa Hana is the first resort on the island to greet the rising sun. Set amid rolling grass fields and palm trees above Kaihalulu Bay, Travaasa Hana will immerse you in the real Hawaii.

Geographically, Hana is bookended by spectacular tropical wilderness. To the north and west lies the serpentine Hana Highway (also known as the Road to Hana), where each bend of the journey reveals ravines draped in waterfalls and lush rainforest. To the south and west, the road continues and delivers travelers to the outskirts of Haleakala National Park, where Ohe'o Gulch tumbles to the ocean in a series of magnificent cascades and swimmable pools.

The town of Hana feels like it is a world away from the rest of Maui. So it is only appropriate that these accommodations envelop you in a similar state of mind. Whether you are staying in one of the luxurious bungalows or checking into a spacious suite, you will find the peace and quiet you deserve. Rooms are free of radios, clocks and TVs, so you can fully embrace the low-key vibe of Heavenly Hana.

Experience the heart of Hawaii through diverse course offerings called 'Travaasas.' There are five different pathways for you to explore: Adventure, Culinary, Culture, Fitness, and Spa & Wellness. You won't have any trouble finding something unique. Travaasa is all about experience, even when it comes to dining. From our open-faced Smoked Chicken Salad Sandwich on homemade bread with locally grown sprout salad, to fish wrapped in Ti leaves and Lilikoi Mahi with Hawaiian sweet potato and ginger lime coconut sauce, every meal you enjoy is a reminder that life is for living.

The Spa at Travaasa Hana was voted the 'No. 1 Resort Spa in Hawaii' in Conde Nast Traveler's 2012 Reader's Choice Awards. A deeply relaxing sanctuary of peace and tranquility, a visit to the Spa at Travaasa Hana is sure to restore feelings of balance and wellness to your body, mind, and spirit.

Picturesque views of spectacular waterfalls, a beautifully rugged shoreline, and some of the best beaches on Maui can only begin to describe what awaits you in Hana. The charm of this peaceful town is the fact that little has changed over the last 20 years. It is truly the last undeveloped tropical paradise on Maui.

Outstanding service and incredible views. If you are into boutique-hotel experiences, you want to check that place out. Tranquility and bliss. Great outdoor hot-tub and pool with a view overlooking the ocean. Another perk is that we slept like babies during our stay there! Perfect for a two-three day romantic getaway. It is a bit of a hustle to get there, but the Road to Hana is an experience on its own with it's lush nature and waterfalls on the way or cute little shops to have freshly baked banana bread... Enjoy the ride!

Friendly but overpriced!

When one gets to stay in remarkable places in amazing locations all over the world you get somewhat spoiled and you gain references. Travaasa Hana in Maui is one of those places where the reputation (and price tag) tells you one thing and reality proves to be quite different. Dull rooms with uncomfortable beds with horrific plastic layers underneath the bed-linen just like you might find in hospitals... Uncomfortable pillows as well. Dirty glasses next to the so called mini-bar. Tons of dust behind and underneath the bed. The huge well kept lawns outside the garden rooms makes the entire area feel pretty dull, abandonded and without use. Quite remarkable to fail like this, landscaping wise, on gorgeous Maui! What made us inclined to give Travaasa Hana as many as three dots on tripadvisor (we would have given it 2) is the very sweet and friendly staff! They are service minded and helpful. Overall, all things considered, it’s absolutely not the worst hotel we’ve been but given the price range we do not recommend this hotel.

The staff at Travaasa deserve a special thanks John bellman and tourist transportation expert,JoLinn equestrian, Jordan on Hamoa Beach, and Rory front desk. We stayed in the ocean bungalows and were golf carted to and fro as needed. The trade winds were not doing there job - so it was a bit uncomfortable from the heat. It offers a quite restorative atmosphere governed by nature’s trade winds and beautiful vistas. The beach is a short distance away via shuttle and should not be missed. You have entered a portion of the old kingdom and there is much to be learned and respected. The stay was filled with memorable moments. The spa is terrific (and air conditioned unlike most of the resort). The resort is ideally located to visit Kahana Gardens, and the Sacred Pools of the Kipahulu NPS. Thanks to all the wonderful people who made us feel truly welcome guests.

The visit to Travasa Hana was like visiting family. The staff, every one of them were wonderful. The grounds are beautiful and activities fun. The Hawaiian spear and bamboo pole fishing are not just for kids. Again, we left feeling like we had visited our O'Hana.

Enjoyed three nights stay at resort. Hotel provides airfare from Kahului airport, Maui, on Mokulele airlines, a commuter prop plane. Flight was fine w views of Hana highway and sights along the fifteen minute flight. Ask to sit on right side headed to Hana to see views of waterfalls etc. The resort is just a few minutes from the airport and their shuttle and friendly staff picks you up. Checkin was a breeze. I had an ocean view room, 207, which is a good distance from reception. The property is around 70 acres I was told. Bellman transported me and luggage to the room. The ocean side of the resort is separated by a road and security gate which requires room key to enter. The bungalow room was very spacious with a large lanai. The furniture is dated but reminds you of old Hawaii. There is no TVs in the rooms which for some will be an adjustment. I resorted to music on my cell phone while in the room. There are two ceiling fans and a standing fan kept in the closet... there’s NO air conditioning at all. You have the breezes and fans for comfort. The first night was pretty hot and not easy to sleep. The other two nights not as hot. I kept the sliding glass doors wide open as well as all windows. There’s curtains you can draw over the double length sliding glass doors to the lanai, but I didn’t use them so as to have the best flow of air. The first day I focused on enjoying the resort... used their limited gym, ocean view pool and their spa. The Spa was pleasant but not as luxurious as many others I have enjoyed in Hawaii. I arrived early for my scheduled massage and foot and hand treatments that were scheduled in advance. As suggested I followed their sauna and freezing water routine... three times through... the ice cold water made my skin feel like it would explode w a burning, could only manage about 20 seconds of the 60 as directed. The massage was unique w use of hot stones and bamboo sticks. The foot and hand treatment was not anything special and don’t recommend. The on-site restaurant was only adequate w a limited menu. I did enjoy their Hana Bay Moco Loco for breakfast. Service was adequate but not very attentive which surprises for the resort status. The resort has a non tipping policy for the bellman, shuttle drivers, etc. Tip for Spa is 18 percent automatic but can be adjusted or increased. Servers at restaurant also are tipped. The next day was spent using a 24 hour rental car booked at the hotel enjoying the famous sites along Hana road... a great time. Overall, I enjoyed the stay and solitude away from the hustle and bustle.
