Long considered one of the most remarkable resorts in Hawaii, Travaasa Hana (formerly known as Hotel Hana Maui) is now even better. Located in the town of Hana on the eastern tip of Maui, Travaasa Hana is the first resort on the island to greet the rising sun. Set amid rolling grass fields and palm trees above Kaihalulu Bay, Travaasa Hana will immerse you in the real Hawaii.

Geographically, Hana is bookended by spectacular tropical wilderness. To the north and west lies the serpentine Hana Highway (also known as the Road to Hana), where each bend of the journey reveals ravines draped in waterfalls and lush rainforest. To the south and west, the road continues and delivers travelers to the outskirts of Haleakala National Park, where Ohe'o Gulch tumbles to the ocean in a series of magnificent cascades and swimmable pools.

The town of Hana feels like it is a world away from the rest of Maui. So it is only appropriate that these accommodations envelop you in a similar state of mind. Whether you are staying in one of the luxurious bungalows or checking into a spacious suite, you will find the peace and quiet you deserve. Rooms are free of radios, clocks and TVs, so you can fully embrace the low-key vibe of Heavenly Hana.

Experience the heart of Hawaii through diverse course offerings called 'Travaasas.' There are five different pathways for you to explore: Adventure, Culinary, Culture, Fitness, and Spa & Wellness. You won't have any trouble finding something unique. Travaasa is all about experience, even when it comes to dining. From our open-faced Smoked Chicken Salad Sandwich on homemade bread with locally grown sprout salad, to fish wrapped in Ti leaves and Lilikoi Mahi with Hawaiian sweet potato and ginger lime coconut sauce, every meal you enjoy is a reminder that life is for living.

The Spa at Travaasa Hana was voted the 'No. 1 Resort Spa in Hawaii' in Cond Nast Traveler's 2012 Reader's Choice Awards. A deeply relaxing sanctuary of peace and tranquility, a visit to the Spa at Travaasa Hana is sure to restore feelings of balance and wellness to your body, mind, and spirit.

Picturesque views of spectacular waterfalls, a beautifully rugged shoreline, and some of the best beaches on Maui can only begin to describe what awaits you in Hana. The charm of this peaceful town is the fact that little has changed over the last 20 years. It is truly the last undeveloped tropical paradise on Maui.

It could have been better considering this is a luxury property

You can't beat the location. However they have a way to go to get 5 stars The good rating is due to the spa. The restaurant is over priced as any hotel is, but the selection was limited. The quality was ok but you expect it to be far better for the prices. No bar near the pool was a drawback. Most hotels in Hawaii do not have AC because it is not needed due to the trades . That said provide options such as more powerful ceiling fans or portable AC when the trades do not blow. We spent 3 very warm nights with little sleep because the room was so warm. The staff offered a portable fan, but even that did not help. We also booked an ocean bungalow. It was a partial oven view at best and based on the price we paid, disappointing. The angle at which the bungalow faced did not allow for good ventilation. We envisioned sitting on the lanai watching the sunrise over the ocean drinking coffee. Instead it was a mountain view with a sliver of ocean. We walked down to the coastline for the sunrises. Small touches such as fresh flowers in the room or pieces of fresh fruit would be a nice amenity. Luxury hotels often do this. You do have a walk to get to the parking lot or lobby or restaurant. We did see some guests being shuttled on our last night. We assume it is an option but no one mentioned it. The staff was accommodating at every step however. The grounds are immaculate. The spa was wonderful and the best part of our stay. They have a lot of potential but we will book elsewhere next stay. We really didn't feel like we received the value for the money spent.

The ocean view rooms are immaculate. Every room has an unobscured view of the ocean. Each room has a beautiful, near wrap around lanai. One of the most beautiful locations I have ever stayed. The customer service is over the top. They will pick you up from your room and shuttle you to their main restaurants, on the hotel property and to the Hana Ranch Restaurant. I would highly recommend this place if you are staying in Hana.

Expected high end, was consistently disappointed!

My husband took me away for my birthday weekend. He booked an oceanfront cottage, and we were excited about the luxury weekend. Our check in member spoke was too fast, and was very disorganized. Same at checkout, they made so many mistakes with our charges, it took more than 45 min to checkout! To begin, the pool heaters were broken the whole weekend we were there, with the cold weather, it made even the “hot tub” unusable. The pool bar was also closed all weekend. They left a card in our room, my name was spelled wrong, just a short attention to detail for a hotel of this cost. The room was dirty, literally piled up in the lamps! Our sheets were ridden with holes, just gross! We booked a horseback ride, but it was cancelled both days we were there. The hotel offered no substitution. We even tried lei making, but there were no flowers, only to leaves :( The yoga was very simple, more stretching than yoga, but the studio was beautiful! We bought the all inclusive food package, and luckily the food was great! Very delicious and well prepared! I will also say that the bell staff was so friendly, we loved them. Also the ladies who worked in the shop and gallery were gems!- Pros: big room, beautiful view, warm staff. Cons: broken down hotel, dirty, activities were disappointed. Not a luxury experience! We spent thousands on a weekend here, we won’t be back, and we can drive from our home on Maui!

Glorious week, glorious place, glorious people

Spent a lovely week in Travaasa Hana to celebrate my wife's birthday. The surroundings are breath-taking, even in the rain (which, unsurprisingly for late November, it did most of the week). We had the Total Travaasa package, which included a bungalow with an ocean view, three meals and a snack, and credit for each of us to use daily at the spa. All were wonderful. The resort is spacious and near a park, a ranch, and Hana Bay. Rides to other locations -- such as Hana Gold Cocoa Plantation. But the best part of our trip was meeting the amazing people at Travaasa and Hana -- warm, welcoming, gracious, generous. We made many friends here and are eager to return.

We loved our 2 night stay in Hana at the Travaasa Hana Resort. From the fresh juice at check in to the incredible ocean views and morning yoga, this is truly a place to disconnect from the world, rejuvenate, and relax. We are glad we had a chance to experience this part of Maui, which is so different than the rest of the island. It's worth the drive and we will make the trip back here again if we are lucky enough to return to Maui.
