Long considered one of the most remarkable resorts in Hawaii, Travaasa Hana (formerly known as Hotel Hana Maui) is now even better. Located in the town of Hana on the eastern tip of Maui, Travaasa Hana is the first resort on the island to greet the rising sun. Set amid rolling grass fields and palm trees above Kaihalulu Bay, Travaasa Hana will immerse you in the real Hawaii.

Geographically, Hana is bookended by spectacular tropical wilderness. To the north and west lies the serpentine Hana Highway (also known as the Road to Hana), where each bend of the journey reveals ravines draped in waterfalls and lush rainforest. To the south and west, the road continues and delivers travelers to the outskirts of Haleakala National Park, where Ohe'o Gulch tumbles to the ocean in a series of magnificent cascades and swimmable pools.

The town of Hana feels like it is a world away from the rest of Maui. So it is only appropriate that these accommodations envelop you in a similar state of mind. Whether you are staying in one of the luxurious bungalows or checking into a spacious suite, you will find the peace and quiet you deserve. Rooms are free of radios, clocks and TVs, so you can fully embrace the low-key vibe of Heavenly Hana.

Experience the heart of Hawaii through diverse course offerings called 'Travaasas.' There are five different pathways for you to explore: Adventure, Culinary, Culture, Fitness, and Spa & Wellness. You won't have any trouble finding something unique. Travaasa is all about experience, even when it comes to dining. From our open-faced Smoked Chicken Salad Sandwich on homemade bread with locally grown sprout salad, to fish wrapped in Ti leaves and Lilikoi Mahi with Hawaiian sweet potato and ginger lime coconut sauce, every meal you enjoy is a reminder that life is for living.

The Spa at Travaasa Hana was voted the 'No. 1 Resort Spa in Hawaii' in Conde Nast Traveler's 2012 Reader's Choice Awards. A deeply relaxing sanctuary of peace and tranquility, a visit to the Spa at Travaasa Hana is sure to restore feelings of balance and wellness to your body, mind, and spirit.

Picturesque views of spectacular waterfalls, a beautifully rugged shoreline, and some of the best beaches on Maui can only begin to describe what awaits you in Hana. The charm of this peaceful town is the fact that little has changed over the last 20 years. It is truly the last undeveloped tropical paradise on Maui.

Beautiful hotel, service needs improvement

Ok, the hotel is the best in Hana and if you don't book an AirBnB in advance, this is all you'll have. The property is exquisite, the bungalows are incredible, spacious, very good taste. We got an upgrade to ocean view, which was nice. The service is below expectation for the price, though. No towels in the pool, a condescending server at the restaurant, most dishes were not available (at the Prestige, one of the 2 restaurants of the hotel). Some friends said that the other restaurant was amazing - I guess we made the wrong choice.

Overpriced and overrated

We were so excited to visit this premier hotel based on reviews and ratings from many luxury sites. What a disappointment. For the rates they charge ( 700/night for a garden view room with 2 queen beds for family), the service and amenities are average at best. No A/C, room decor and bedding is old and dated. Beds are very uncomfortable and we did not get a lot of sleep while there. Bring bug spray as mosquitos are prevalent. First night we were welcomed by a large cockroach. Felt it was par for the course in a rain forest but again, for the rates they charge, some pest control wouldn’t hurt. Service for the price was lackluster and we heard ‘No’ a lot. We had 4 in our suite and asked for 2 more chairs for our patio and were told none were available ( even though the resort was not sold out). We went to the pool, which was not busy, and we told they ran out of towels. We asked the bartender to call someone and she reluctantly did. 30 minutes later, we got a towel after drip drying. Asked for more cream cheese for a grab and go bagel and was told 1 is the limit. Food is average at best. Bar service is so slow it is almost non-existent. Expect to sit down and wait for a good 5-10 minutes before anyone comes to ask you for a drink or take your order. Here and at Hana Ranch, where you will be inundated with flies. Overall, the feeling I got was that the locals in Hana don’t welcome tourists and we were no exception. I can embrace a carefree and slower pace, in fact I sought it out for this part of our vacation, but this resort charges too much for the level of service they provide and we left a day early. My recommendation is this- drive to Hana, stay here for 1 night Max if you must, hike the Pipiwaa trail, then leave and return to the resorts that treat you like they want you here.

This was my third stay at the awesome Travaasa Hana, Maui and it just keeps getting better! Their restaurant is amazing too! The hotel takes you to Homoa Beach - one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. They provide loungers and umbrellas and even a boogie board if you want to try the waves. I'm already looking forward to my next stay there!

A morning I'll never forget!

Waking up in our ocean side room at the Travaasa with the windows open for the ocean breeze is a morning I'll never forget. That sounds dramatic, but it was dramatic. Upgrade to the ocean side room - yes it's expensive, but there is no air conditioning, and the ocean breeze is really fantastic. And that view..... Absolutely amazing. The road to Hana is great, but to really appreciate the beauty of the area, you need to spend the night. It is so very different from anywhere else on Maui, so very tranquil. Dinner at the Travaasa was one of our best meals in Maui. You can't go wrong with this place. We will return.

Stay over night in Hana!

If you are into exploring and the great outdoors, do not miss Road to Hana. If you are into having some peaceful time after a whole day of exploring, stay at Travaasa Hana. We loved our 1-night stay at the hotel. The hotel ground is beautiful and the room is spacious. The service is top notch and very friendly. If we go back to Maui, will definitely spend at least a night there again.
