The Hotel was very inviting when we checked in late about 10:30 at night. The desk clerk was very cheerful and very on top of things. The hotel was beautiful and the outer surroundings. All the pool area's and restaurants were top notch! All employee's from waiters room maids were very helpful and friendly. We had a very good experience.

We were given a room that overlooked the garbage dumpster, not a garden view. Complained to the check in desk and they upgraded our room to a better garden/water view at no additional cost. Was annoyed that to get 2 lounge chairs and an umbrella the cost was $50 a day! The hotel did not have a fine dining restaurant. The restaurants were more of a fast food menu. The breakfast buffet was very very good. The shuttle service to town and the other hotels was very convenient.

The Westin Maui Resort and Spa will make you feel like royalty! From the bed being soft as a cloud to the views from the room and the pools, it was all wonderful! You can opt out of room service for a $5 voucher for each day to be used at either the pool bar or one of the Relish restaurants which was awesome in helping stay green! The entire resort smells like white tea aloe which is apparently their signature scent but even that small detail helps you to relax the minute you come in. The luau at the resort was FANTASTIC and so much fun! The food was wonderful! If I had any complaint at all would be that we could hear our neighbors so the walls seemed a little bit thin.. Otherwise I would not hesitate to recommend The Westin to anyone! And it is also right beside Whalers Village which is full of shops and restaurants!

Some of the staff are rude. I would not stay at this property again. We were charged $17.28 plus tax per night for valet parking, that no one informed us of when we checked in.

Inconsistent rooms!

Jan 04 2012
We changed rooms after one night because the original room assignment was beyond disappointing: the sliding closet door was completely off the track and resting on the floor and obviously immoveable (my husband manhandled it back into place); the refrigerator was actually sitting on the floor inside this closet which made it not only inconvenient impossible to open without tipping the unit; tipping the refrigerator was problematic as the coffeemaker rested atop it at a painfully low level; the room arrangement was so awkward that from one side of the bed it was nearly impossible to view the tv; the in-room safe had been left locked by the previous occupants so was unusable by us; the ocean view we paid for consisted primarily of the air conditioners on the roof below and the landscapers' maintenance shed. Westin should be ashamed to rent this room at all, never mind at a premium. At least they did manage to change us to a different room, but dropped the ball then, too, by never calling to advise us when the new accommodation was ready and I had to stand in line for 30 minutes to inquire. Because of this, I had a hard time doing the ratings above -- depends on which room I'm evaluating! Roberts Hawaii is an excellent transportation service; we even booked a tour with them based on their transfer experience.

Ocean view room had spectacular view of the 5 pools, Kaanapali beach, Molokai and Lanai. Ocean view room on the small side, and could use some updating, but overall was very nice. Pools were excellent, and although a little on the chilly side, are a nice feature of this resort. Beach in front of the resort was excellent. Most of the staff at this resort were very nice, especailly Nazzy at the Ono Bar and Grill. He was the kind of person that put your stay over the top with his kindness and service. After learning our names the first day, he never forgot, and would greet us every morning with his contagous smile. I would definitely go back to this resort, and appreciate Apple Vacations for their service.

Westin —serious alert!—- do not stay here until construction is done!! How is it even possible that a hotel can charge you full price, knowing that they are going to stick you in a room right below some heavy construction, including jackhammers, that lasts from 9 to 5 all day **7 days a week**? Yes that’s right, you don’t even get a break from the noise that you can hear all over the resort on the weekend. The pool is not relaxing, it’s hammering. All. Day. Long. Not everybody gets to go on vacation and not have to work. With the underwhelming room, lack of remodeling, dingy and musty odor and smell, it’s difficult to sleep at night. Good luck trying to think clearly through all the racket to get your work done! Couple this with non-stop jackhammering during the daytime and you can hardly call these accommodations. It’s more like a bed and “good luck if you sleep”. Even with 38 dB camo plugs I cannot sleep! I gave the hotel an opportunity to resolve it and they wanted to move me to a tinier room in the main tower. There are three of us, that is not going to work. If anything they should be adding points to my account and offering a free upgrade!! When I called to confirm my reservation, they told me that they didn’t even know how I booked the room that I did because it was officially sold out. They were supposed to be putting me in a lesser quality room for $100 less, but the price is looking the same on my check in receipt. This is a $199 a night room they’re charging me $599 for. Some other major downsides. If you’re used to a relaxing resort, this is not it. It feels more like a Disney resort. Food is seriously overpriced. The café food is not edible. Good luck getting chairs. People park their stuff on them at 6 o’clock in the morning and when you come down at a reasonable time after breakfast, there is not one to be had. We combined two of them together at the adult pool and one of them was broken. If you want a cabana, reserve days in advance and expect to pay $80 at least. $30 mandatory parking fee - you can’t self park. Nearly $40 per person for the buffer of minimal quality. Only upside is proximity to whalers. Even the “heavenly” bed required an extra layer of down featherbedding to get a relatively comfortable mattress. Housekeeping yells down the hallway during the morning time. I am still here, but actively looking online for other options to move. Bottom line. It’s a rip off, they are not accommodating, the resort rooms smell, lots of things are dirty, there is no room for you to get a chair, and it is anything but relaxing resort. I feel like I’m back in Los Angeles. Hotel management. Please do not give me a copy and paste reply. If you really want to fix this, change my room, 282, comp nights, or do something remotely considerate of the constant noise. I don’t want a canned reply.

Traveling with children - the restaurants had plenty for all of us to choose from and we were able to prepare meals in the kitchen. We snorkeled at the adjacent beach and saw beautiful fish and a turtle. The staff was very accommodating and everyone was pleasant. Sign up early for the classes you wish to take - you'll be glad you did.

Very nice place for families. Big pools, comfortable rooms. Very good food in Relish bar. Big minus is that are few umbrellas on the pool what in this temperature is not pleasant. To have good place with umbrella people was making reservations at 6 o’clock. Chairs and umbrellas on the beach are paid.

Not Great, Just OK. 3.5 stars.

My family of four stayed for 3 nights last week. Here's our take on things: 1. Service: This was a highlight. Almost everyone was kind and accommodating. 2. The room: VERY small for what we paid. They gave us 2 full size beds for a family of four. Not exactly relaxing. I would have absolutely expected 2 Queens from a higher end brand like Westin. In general, the room was really cramped feeling. Bedding was comfortable though. 3. The restaurants: We did the buffet breakfast twice and it was pretty good. 4/5 stars. They did a nice job accommodating my gluten free daughter. 4. Misc Fees: I agree with the other reviewers: the "Resort Fee" felt like a shameless scam to milk another $30/day out of us. Not much included for that. Happy hour draft beer for $5, though, was pretty cool 5. The grounds: The pool was COLD in the evenings - too cold to enjoy. Our first night, I got out shivering and couldn't finish playing with my daughters. Most of the Tiki torches were not lit and I bumped into a couple of things on the ground that I couldn't see at night with the poor lighting (and i have great vision!). The pool and water slide were nice. 6. The beach: just an ok stretch. Ended up walking to black rock past 3 other resorts. Summary: For the price category they put themselves in, I expected a better experience. If you're going to have to walk to the best stretch of beach anyway, then stay at a nicer/more spacious/more generous property such as the Hyatt a few resorts down.

Cost - This is an up charge hotel. You pay whatever price you find for the room, but then you get all of these not so small fees on top of that price. Examples are $30 resort fee, $30 parking fee (mandatory), $89 to add a person (if over 2 people), a rollaway bed also costs money though the price isn't listed, to have connecting rooms is a $50 charge a night, $75 to upgrade to an ocean view, $250 for the cabana and $80 for two lounge chairs and an umbrella at the beach, $33 for the breakfast buffet (optional) and laundry.

Now I'll go into more detail about the costs and everything else.

Parking - valet is the only option and you have to pay the $30 for it. There is no where else to park your car. And every time you get your car you have to wait 15-25 minutes. Imagine leaving your hotel for breakfast, a trip, and then dinner. That's three times that you'll be waiting for somebody to pull up your car. Laundry - the resort does not have free washing machines, they don’t even have paid washing machines. They only have a laundry service and the pricing is ridiculous. It goes something like this, they charge you for each item and the prices are $4 for a pair of socks, $9.50 for a shirt, $10 for pants, $4 for undergarments and so on. Take note this is not dry cleaning, this is actually them just washing your clothes. I had previously stayed at a condo so I had 10 days worth of clothes to launder, I counted it all up and it was to be approximately $180 to clean those clothes!!! An employee at the lobby warned that it would be extremely expensive. I did not pay that price and used a machine elsewhere. If you don't have the time to go and launder your clothes someplace else, DO pack enough for your trip!! Extra people - the rooms are regular hotel rooms, pretty small too. The beds are full sized and everything else is rather close in proximity. So to have 3 or 4 people feels crowded. But to have to pay $89 per night per person just to have to lay flat, or get knocked around all night by whoever you're sleeping with is ridiculous!!! ***If there are more than 2 people DO NOT stay here. It will not be a comfortable stay.

Room - if there are only 2 people staying there, the full sized beds are very nice and a good size! The pillows though are terrible! They put 4 pillows on each bed, all of them different for some reason and they're all uncomfortable. That definitely was another reason why I slept so terribly. I'd suggest bringing your own! Also if the mattress is too hard or too soft you can try asking for another room because we got a room change and the first room had a very soft comfortable mattress but the second room had a hard mattress that I did not like. So they're not consistent throughout the resort with mattresses and pillows that's for sure!

Resort fee - it doesn't cover anything interesting. You can feed the fish, take a picture with the parrots, and learn to hula dance. If you want to do yoga by the ocean that's $15 extra and if you want kids to do an activity where they make something you have to pay for the supplies. Basically you're paying for the housekeeping and the internet.

Ocean view upgrade - now this is a very personal choice. Should you keep your mountain/golf course view (what we had) or upgrade to the ocean view? Only thing is that they're in the process of building a parking garage and the construction is non stop, all day banging, right in front of the mountain/golf view rooms. It's really unfair. You come to Maui for a week or maybe a bit longer, but you can't even sit on the lanai to drink your morning coffee because of the drilling and beeping. They should either do free upgrades or drop the charge drastically until they're done with the construction! That would be customer service!

Food - every place at the hotel is expensive. I would suggest eating at Whalers Village which is a mall that is only a few feet away from the resort. There are plenty of cheaper and better options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Happy Hour - the Relish Bistro has a happy hour from 3-5pm, then from 5-7pm there is a happy hour at the Oceanside Relish, and then from 7-10pm the adult pool bar has their happy hour. I learned this from somebody who I was talking to while tanning. If you'd like to have a few drinks do take note of this option since the drink prices are about $15 average while happy hour is $8. Crowded - the hotel is generally very crowded. You can always find 2 lounge chairs side by side but you'd have to wake up extra early for more than that. The adult pool is really nice though it's mainly couples who are all over each other, and the other pools allow children so they're usually more crowded, louder and aren't suitable for swimming since you'd be dodging people left and right. There aren't many other places to relax in the hotel. You're always surrounded by an enormous amount of people or so it feels. There are a lot of things going on at the resort and not enough space. Water slides, 4 pools, restaurants, bars, towel desk, lobby, concierge desks, lounge chairs, ponds, and fountains that are all jammed into a very small space which is overwhelming. I did not feel relaxed.

Beach - the beach across from the resort is nice because it's vast but the ocean isn't that fun at all. I love snorkeling and there aren't any snorkel places in walking distance. I ended up just swimming back and forth, and then jumping some waves. For any real island experience sort of beach you'd have to drive elsewhere.

Concierge - there are many concierge desks available but they do not offer any sort of deals. At other resorts I've been to they would have some kind of discount for booking through them, this was not the case here.

Overall - I was here for 6 days and 5 nights. I enjoyed talking to Keoki and Bob (the parrots), and the water slide was very fun! I loved how close we were to Whalers Village for dinner and late night gelato runs. But I would not come back to this resort ever again! There were 3 of us and I thought to myself maybe if I came back with only one other person that would be better. But then I remembered all of the added on fees that make the trip SO much more expensive. I would rather not risk another disappointing stay and go elsewhere next time. Right now I feel like a survivor for getting through the week at The Westin, I do not feel like I was on vacation at all.
