VERANDAH - OUR SECOND HOME

We are many time repeaters at The Verandah. Its our love of Antigua and the people that keeps us coming back for more. We have just returned from yet another very enjoyable stay, and as always from the minute we arrived we were welcomed back by the staff with open arms and warm hugs and smiley faces, they were genuinely pleased to see us again. We have been made to feel a big part of The Verandah Family, and its great to return to such a welcome and meet up with the same friendly faces each year and catch up with their news. Of course we do have our favorite staff members, but there are too many to mention by name, but the know who they are!! The Verandah is a unique Resort set in a fantastic location with stunning grounds. The Resort is well maintained and cared for by cheerful workers who work so hard to keep the place looking so beautiful for us. The Resort offers Something for Everyone 2 Beaches - The main Beach accessible by a number of steps has washroom and a bar serving non-alcoholic drinks only. This is also where the Water Sports action takes place. Very safe for swimming. The Rasta Beach is smaller and much quieter, and it does have a Bar that serves Alcoholic drinks. 2 Swimming Pools - The Main pool and the quieter Adults only pool. 4 Restaurants to choose from offering different dining options. (This includes Nicoles, which is fine dining and for which you pay a supplement.) WARNING - Be sure to wear all tight fitting clothing at the start of your vacation as after 1/2 weeks of the Verandah food and drink, the clothes tend to become more snug!! There are also 3 Bars for you to use. There is also a Gym available for the more energetic guests. For those of you who like to walk, the grounds are vast and a bit hilly in places, but manageable. (helps to work off some of the extra food and drink consumed while you are here) If you have mobility problems or just prefer to be lazy then take a ride, there are golf type buggies around to take you to wherever you need to go. Everyday there are plenty of fun and games going on for the Adults and the kids, just check with the Activities Staff. The Daily events are usually posted on a blackboard in the Main Bar. The Staff are there for you and will go out of their way to accommodate the guests. However should you have a problem then please visit the 'Lovely Ladies' in Guest Relations who are there to help you out. Don't miss The Managers (BBQ) Cocktail Party by the Main Pool, just see how much hard work goes into making this a great night for everyone. Each time we return we find more and more improvements have been implemented. We appreciate how hard this is to do in a Resort this size. This time it was to see the Washrooms and the Bar completed on the Main beach, a very welcome addition which we have waited for. Rooms being painted with new White Drapes which brightened up the room no end, and also a full length mirror in the walls, a must for the ladies! We also really enjoyed the flexibility of now being able to use the facilities at the recently refurbished Sister Hotel The Pineapple Beach Club just across from the The Verandah. Be it for a day pass with Lunch, or Dinner in the evening, its well worth the visit. However remember it is for Couples only. For us, The Verandah provides us with our own little piece of Paradise while we are there. We can't wait until November when we will be back at our second home with our Antigua Family. Big Thank you to everyone at The Verandah

Never again

As I am writing this we are at the halfway point of our week here and this is our fourth night with our noise cancelling headphones waiting for the most horrible entertainment to STOP so we can get some sleep! I would absolutely not recommend this resort. Old rooms with maintenance issues, borderline rude staff in most instances, and a ridiculously small sandy area they call a main beach, with no waves and a shallow slimy sea bed. Food is decent, no real complaints there. But the usual annoyances with some restaurants only open certain nights, 48h reservations required, etc. We spent the day at the sister resort (Pinapple Beach) and it is by far a much better choice. We will be escaping there again on Friday to avoid the constant noise from mediocre DJs and bands. I am so disappointed to have spent a significant sum to come this place. It is one of the worst experiences (except for Cuba) we’ve had. Antigua itself is a lovely place and we enjoyed a day trip to Saint John. But, if we were to come back, we would select a hotel on the Carribean side, where the truly great beaches are.

Lovely happy caring staff set in beautiful extensive grounds

Such a lovely setting best place ever it's a very spacious resort all accommodation is one storey two apartments together with a large balcony which was great to sit out early morning and evening watching the many birds which will come if you put sugar out for them which we did daily ! It's quite hilly in places but we liked to walk as otherwise you would just eat&drink all day , there are golf type buggies to take you wherever you want to go if you have mobility issues or you just want to be lazy ,two pools one of which is adult only 3 bars two beaches 4 restaurants which are all good with a great selection of very tasty meals the staff work tirelessly with happy smiling faces nothing is to much trouble and they often joined in when the nightly entertainment was on .the sister hotel which is just across the road is great to visit they also have 3 restaurants plus the a la cart one over looks the beach so you really feel on holiday a very safe island where you can go around anywhere without being troubled but the verandah grounds are paradise on earth and the grounds people keep it spotless I would recommend this hotel in a heartbeat fir couple and families alike I for one cannot wait to return thankyou verandah for your hard work and for making a lovely relaxing happy holiday only downside the rooms could do with a re vamp but they are still serviceable and very clean and spacious to thank you once again to all who work at the verandah

Amazing place

Buffet had plenty to offer with themed nights. Wonderful entertainment each night at main pool. Plenty of activities offered each day and yet plenty of places to slip away and just relax. Gorgeous views. Resort is breathtaking and a lovely place to have an evening stroll and enjoy the island breeze. Just a ten minute hike to Devils Bridge, a must see! We loved the Adult Pool and paddle boarding in the ocean. I feel like you really get a lot of bang for your buck here. Cant wait to return and bring the grown kiddos with us - May was a great month to visit.

Beautiful setting but let down by a few things

To keep this as to the point as possible I will firstly bullet point the downsides to this beautiful resort: - Lots of staff but never seem to be in the right place and lack of organisation (there is a coffee shop which served lovely fresh coffee however 3 of the 5 times we tried to visit as we got up before breakfast was being served there was nobody there to serve the fresh coffee) - Lack of hot water. Lovely big bathrooms and a nice big bath tub however you would be lucky to get more than a couple of inches of hot water at any point. (not ideal when trying to bath a baby) - Activities throughout the day were generally very disappointing, lack of organisation here and not a very good activity schedule. They seem very hesitant to actually do any work (apart from Keiffer seemed very good at what he does and I never actually saw the girls from the entertainment team). I attempted Tennis on the first morning met by Quame who said no tennis unless there is at least 4 here 10 mins after waiting around he said no Tennis today! Also the next time for the alloted Tennis slot Quame was not even there. He brings very little value to the hotel to have a full time tennis coach and only 3 weekly slots on the activites list. Also the watersports guys, well this was just a joke. I attempted 4 times to try and go out on a HobbieCat they were as lazy as you like and kept making excuses, sorry but I am paying for this as part of my holiday so this did leave a sour taste! - Rooms were not properly cleaned and when the baby was asleep the cleaners next door were extremely noisy. - Guest services were very unhelpful, we did not manage to book buccaneers at all in the end and we didn't realize till the last day that the Bar and Grill had a different menu in the evening. - WiFi: $10 per day is a bit unnecessary but fine not a big deal, but the fact that you have to log in every 30 minutes and the connection is pretty awful is not good. My suggestions would be for all daily activities to meet at the same point for a golf kart (larger ones hold 10 people) to take you to the destination to improve the point above. Also there needs to be some sort of handout with opening days for certain restaurants as well as what is on that night and what the menu's are so you can plan this a bit better. To finish on a high the positive points. - Manager BBQ on the last night was really good. - Rooms are a very good size with great facilities and views. - Selection at buffet generally very good (alot of meat on the bone though, chicken breast wouldnt go a miss) - All the restaurant staff were very attentive and the omelette chef, smoothie station. Thumbs up for these guys they made the dining experiance rather pleasant apart from one. Dian, probably the worst customer service I have ever experianced, greets all the guests when seating for meals with just "come" then points at the table without saying anything else or even attempting to crack a smile. - Golf buggy service was great, all very friendly and is really handy for such a large resort. - Scenary is stunning, all the trees, plant and flowers did make you feel like you were in paradise. This hotel has got the potential to be the place to come back to every year however for me the few points I have mentioned would put me off returning but I did overall enjoy my time here.
