We had a week at the Verandah and it did not disappoint. In short it exceeded my expectation and ticked all the boxes. Great weather in Nov 31 all week with lows of 29 . Staff extremely professional and always helpful and smiling. Restaurant Nicole’s was worth the extra 35 dollar per head supplement just to quaff the champagne and devour a full lobster . Loved the ambiance at Rasta Beach and Bar . Sea breeze main restaurant very good as was the branded drinks . Did not spend a penny all week and loved the rum punch. Golf carts transport you around the beautiful park setting from beach to beach and bar to bar. Will go back for sure .

Back to the fantastic resort we remembered

This was our 3rd trip to the Verandah, first trip we loved in 2012 was amazing, second in 2016 wasn’t great for many reasons, which are in my review from that trip. We felt that we had to give it one last chance, and I’m so glad we did. We were welcomed to the resort with cold towels and smiling faces, the receptionist remembered us and there were cold drinks ready. We were checked in and at our room within minutes. The rooms haven’t changed in the years we’ve been here and if honest they could probably do with an update, the bathrooms especially, but they are impeccably clean. The resort has a lovely laid back feel to it, with smiles from all the staff, Nakisha in Seabreeze made a fuss of our little boy every time she saw us, which he loved. We ate mostly at seabreeze as the kids were exhausted after a long day in the sea / pool. The food was ok, but not fantastic, and there wasn’t always a kids option out. Unfortunately I was taken ill on day 2 of our holiday, a sick bug, nothing to do with the resort, the hotel were fantastic, on day 4 they arranged for a doctor to come out. They delivered ginger ale and water to the room and gave my husband packets of crackers for me when he asked at dinner time. They called me twice a day to make sure I was ok. On another note, the doctor is very expensive! But he was very attentive and stayed for an hour to make sure I was ok after giving me medication. The kids loved mini golf which has had a bit of a refurb, and the pool was always clean, with beds in the shade or sun available most of the day. The beach bar is a great spot to enjoy the view of the main beach, the building Work was not intrusive at all, and to be honest I didn’t really notice it. Lunch at the Rasta bar / grill was great, sometimes a bit of a wait, but not a problem when you have a lovely spot to sit in! I will be intrigued to see what the new rooms are like when they are finished, they look like they are the same style as the existing, but they will have fantastic views. All in all a lovely break for the family (unfortunately mine was a mini break due to sickness) and it felt like home the moment we got there. We are generally not people that go to the same place twice, but if the right deal came up again we wouldn’t hesitate in going back. We are a totally normal family with 2 small children, we appreciate the simple things like a smile from a waitress or a wave for my 2 year old son from the buggy bus driver, and these were forthcoming in abundance. Thank you Verandah staff for making fabulous memories for our family, especially as I wasn’t around for much of it :(

Excellent

My fiancee and I stayed here for 7 nights in November 2017. Overall this was a very good hotel and excellent value. There are excellent facilities with a variety of non-motorised watersports readily available from both beaches. The food in the buffet and a la carte restaurants was a very good quality; the surcharge to dine in Nicole's is certainly worth the $35 as the service, presentation and quality of the food isn't much short of Michelin starred restaurants we have been to. There is an extensive cocktail menu at the bars and premium spirits (e.g. Bombay Sapphire, Tanqueray, Absolut) and a very pleasant French sparkling wine are included in the standard all inclusive package. The only negatives are that the hotel is very spread out between two bays and there are large hills which would be problematic for people with mobility problems, there is also quite a lot of steps down to the main beach, it should also be noted that there is building work to the East of the main beach for new rooms and a bar and toilet block are also being built on the main beach.

Never disappointed

Having visited Antigua for the last 17 years we discovered Verandah 3 years ago. Therefore, this was a return visit having already been twice before. We requested specific rooms and they accommodated which after a long flight was most welcome. Again Verandah didn't disappoint, a lot of work had been done and was still in progress since last year. Having said that it did not impact on our stay as was being done quite discreetly. They are currently putting in toilets and a Beach Bar on the Main Beach which is much needed, due to the steep climb via steps to the Beach Bar and grill, the current alternative. Beaches were scrupulously clean and raked every morning, water sports plentiful from paddle boards, Kayaks, Pedaloes, Hobie cats and windsurfing. We availed ourselves of the Hobie cat tuition and with much hilarity the windsurfing. Tuition was comprehensive and we never felt unsafe. There are 4 restaurants to eat from at Verandah. They are not open every evening except for the the Main Buffet (which is the normal restaurant) and have to be reserved at guest services. Nicole's is the only one you have to pay a surcharge but well worth it. The filet steak melted to the touch and the whole experience was truly 5 star. Buccaneers was a vast improvement on previous years and closely follows Nicole's on quality and service. The Beach Bar and grill offers an la carte menu on selected evenings and was a welcome change. The only criticism I might have is the regular buffet restaurant. Although plentiful and of reasonable quality I struggled the couple of times we went there to find something to eat as there seemed to be rice with everything which I am not always a fan of. They have themed evenings and I made the mistake of eating there on the Mexican night which didn't help as it is not my favourite food, perhaps I should have looked more carefully at the menu boards. . Saving grace was the meat station which normally had a joint on offer which was cooked perfectly. Having said that Breakfast was always plentiful and varied. Rooms were spotless and cleaned thoroughly every day. Clean towels plentiful. The rooms are spacious with large balcony, perfect to sit and end or start the day. We love Verandah because although it is a large complex it has been landscaped with thought. There is an abundance of shrubbery and trees everywhere all maintained immaculately. Special mention there to the maintenance/gardeners. With a resort that size Verandah still manages to maintain that special Caribbean feel that so many hotels can fail at. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to families and couples alike. I fully intend to make a return visit to Verandah in the near future.

Very nice resort but something's lacking

My wife and I visited this resort with my son and his girlfriend. The transfer by taxi is easy and is set at usd28. Our last holiday was at Dreams Punta Cana so it's hard not to compare. Unlike Dreams there is no tiresome hard sell of timeshare on arrival. Checkin was fast and efficient. The rooms are very clean if a little dated. The resort is set around 2 sort of lagoons which, while they have white sand, don't have the waves and surf of a seaside resort. The pools are great, very refreshing, not overly warm like some resorts. The al a carte restaurants are good with possibly the best house wines we have had in an AI. The service is feast or famine, with (mostly) lovely service, but the odd staff member being very surly. What lets this place down is the buffet restaurant. Is it completely devoid of atmosphere. At breakfast they play music but evening meals there is nothing, giving you the feeling you are in a works canteen. Food also not very warm, even when we tried eating 10 mins after it opened in the evening the food was luke warm. For lunch, with the buffet a let-down, you have the choice of getting a golf buggy all the way down to the smaller beach or eating at the beach bar which all though very nice, gets a bit samey after 10 lunches!! They charge 50 USD for wifi which is outrageous in this day and age. It's only free around the main pool and bar. Some of the resort needs updating, the mini golf, for example, looks reasonably new, but the water features were not working, leading you to walk around stagnating water! There is a bit of a rush to put towels out for shade, but you can usually pull a sun bed to a bit of shade. Overall a pleasant stay, would appreciate a little more dining choice, so will be returning to a Dreams resort next time.
