A nice Choice

Spent 4 nights recently at the Ritz on a last minute long weekend Birthday weekend. Third time to Aruba over 30 years but first time at the Ritz. Choices for rooms were sparse in Aruba at such a late booking date, so as it was my husbands 60th, I sprung for the Ritz. Overall the hotel is beautiful. The service was nothing less than outstanding from every person we came in contact with- the bellman, valets, front desk, housekeeping (Carmen was wonderful), bar staff, beach staff, pool staff, etc. I chose this hotel for the large balcony as I like to enjoy breakfast and evening sunsets and cocktails outside. The ocean view room was nice and I had paid a basic rate so I was quite happy with it. There were a couple of downsides however - and the staff are all aware of them but it is absolutely not the fault of the hotel staff. Our room was the second to last at the end of the left wing (when facing the beach) on the second floor overlooking the family pool. There is only ONE elevator bank in the entire hotel on the opposite wing on the other side of the expansive lobby. No one including the staff knew what the Architects could possibly have been thinking to design the building in such a way. We counted 275 steps from the room to the elevator each way with no other way out to the beach from our room - even taking the stairs down one flight would not allow us outside access. I guess all roads must pass the casino. And then it was a distance out to the beach areas as well. I left some items in my room which I needed to retrieve on a couple of occasions and It was a chore to go back to the room. The other issue was the way the sound bounces off the building from the kids pool. From the minute I opened my door in the morning until well past dark the sounds of kids and people in the pools was stupidly loud. Oddly, when on the other side of the outdoor restaurant and bar at the quiet pool you could not hear a thing Must be something odd about the way the sound carries in the cavern of the building architecturally- So this is no ones fault, but I would ask for a room near elevator and on opposite wing next time. The beach bar and restaurant was great as were the servers on segways! IDK how they carry glasses of wine to the beach! The other thing to be aware of is there are no reservations for beach and pool umbrellas so you need to send someone out at 7am if you want a spot that you like. Usually after 3PM people leave and you can go down to beach and ask an attendant to remove towels left by others. My husband ventured out each morning to secure a nice spot. We did not dine at the hotel- enjoyed the lobby bar and sunsets each nite before trying the vast array of Aruban restaurants and nitelife. We did request a refrigerator for our room however As the ice machine was next to the elevators (long long walk) and were quickly accomodated. The hotel is fairly quiet compared to others. All in all a fantastic weekend!

Do not stay at this hotel if you are Lifetime Platinum as they will not upgrade your room or give you any benefits. I used points for my reservation and was offered two paid upgrade options upon check-in and shown a price chart (WTF?). My Marriott Ambassador even tried working with these clowns and it was a no go. The rest of the staff at the hotel are great (especially Eric at the adult pool). I would suggest staying at the Marriott next door or the Renaissance downtown. Also, the property is a little dated and the rooms could use updating. Will not return to this hotel in the future (and management PLEASE do not post a response to my review as it will not help and make you look more incompetent).

We stayed 5 nights on points and had 2 rooms as we travelled with our teenagers. We all agree that everything was amazing about this hotel! Every staff we encountered was more than helpful and all friendly. The staff at the pools and towel hut were overly helpful to the point where they kept asking if there was anything they could do for us and I wanted to answer "sure could you massage my feet?" just so they'd stop asking! The pools are not large and there is not a ton of shade but there are umbrellas and trees providing shade in the adult pool. We booked Cabanas for most of our days there and found they were worth it just for the shade guarantee. We still went to the beach and swam in the ocean but did not set up there as we found it too windy. I honestly can't think of anything negative to say about this resort other than I wish the coffee shop was a Starbucks but the Ritual coffee shop they do have was more than sufficient. The beds were comfy, the shower had plenty of hot water and good pressure. The sunsets are incredible and the balconies spacious. We ate at Cafe Nonna and it was delicious. Room service breakfast was super fast too. Overall an amazing stay and we didn't want to leave and we can't wait to come back.

Horrible view - do not waste your money

I am shocked that this hotel can charge $1500 for a view of a parking lot. This is a horrible horrible experience. So looking forward to the Aruba beaches only to find out that our junior suite overlooks a parking lot and freeway. How can a suite have such a horrid view?!?! This hotel is no better than a Sheraton and the decor is hideous. The shops are subpar and food is so-so. I opened our balcony doors only to have flies come in as there are no screens on the doors. I do not understand how a suite can have such a hideous view for the price we are paying. We are paying full freight - not on any points or freebies and its painful to know how far $1,500 goes at other hotels to have this hideous view. I also don’t get how this hotel can disguise itself as a Ritz Carlton. We stay at high-end hotels all around the world and I am so disappointed. I should have just stayed home. So so so upset. The one plus is that the staff is very nice and tries to be accommodating.

As someone who only used the bathroom and stole some water and sunscreen, I was very impressed and can only imagine how luxurious it must feel to actually stay here. -1 star for some entitled coward wearing a Hooters tank top in the lobby.
