Great place to relax

This is the first time my small family (parents+child) have visited the Dominican Republic, and we were looking for a resort with a great beach, pools, a kid's club, and spacious accommodations. I think a Google search lead me to the Reserve, and timing and price all aligned and we got a one-bedroom suite. Our concierge Jose was very helpful, booking our meals and making sure there were special surprises for our daughter (incredible bubble baths in the indoor Jacuzzi as well as outdoor hot tub, for one). There are a number of restaurants on the property, and the offerings can be uneven, but the buffet options can usually meet everyone's needs (the Reserve guests do have access to the main hotel's facilities, like the restaurants and pools). The Reserve is definitely not close to the beach—it's a 10-15 minute walk or a golf cart ride from a bellman—but I liked it because it didn't have the hustle and bustle of the main hotel. There are many winding areas around the Reserve's pools with cabana and seating, it felt special. Our suite opened up into a yard, but some others opened directly onto the pools! (The pool is basically one huge system with bridges and paths over and around them.)

The Reserve at Paradisus Punta Cana was the best all inclusive resort I’ve ever stayed at. The service was impeccable, the food was wonderful (the buffet is not necessarily 5 star, but the individual restaurants on the premise were exquisite) and the resort and grounds themselves were utterly breath taking. This may all sound over the top but it was a truly flawless experience for all 5 days we were there. Some of the other guests were a bit snotty and rude, but hey, that shows zero reflection in Meliã. I will return in the future and will be considering Meliã for all future travels!

Wonderful Stay thanks to Sandra Villanueva at the family concierge and Jesus Avelino at the pool Bar

My wife, daughter and I stayed 11/16-11/25. We travelled with another couple with children the same age as my daughter. Our first time in DR. We typically stay In Mexico for thanksgiving. We have travelled extensively in the Caribbean and elsewhere. First - the property. Beautifully maintained gardens and grounds. Expansive pools and well appointed suites which were larger than expected. If you wanted a coconut any gardener would happily grab one, slice the top off and there you go. There was a golf cart shuttle for travel to the beach and other restaurants, etc. nearby. But you could easily walk. Only drawback were the mosquitoes at night which I was unprepared for. Besides I was the only one affected (?) Second - the food. Bountiful and delicious but catered to European tastes which was fine for the adults. Unfortunately our 8 year old daughter lives on a diet of chicken fingers, French fries and pasta all of which were surprisingly not available at the dinner buffets. That is one area for improvement. However Sandra made certan that special orders were accommodated and we could not have asked for more. Every request was happily met. The speciality restaurants were All excellent and all had kids menus. Thirdly - the service. Fantastic. Sandra could not do enough as our concierge. From special treats and surprises in the room each night for my daughter to surpise bottles of wine, champagne and other niceties extended to me and my wife. Traveling with an 8 year old means lots of pool time, and Jesus kept the cocktails flowing and everyone happy. Lastly - the entertainment. The queen tribute band was really great. The live bands with dancing got everyone out on the floor. Great stay.

Travelled with a toddler

This was our first trip with our 22 month old toddler, so we did extensive research and chose this resort with the family concierge service based on the reviews here. This was my 10th all inclusive, but first with kid. First impression was awesome. Spa style check-in area, beautifully landscaped grounds, and a very nice suite. Upon arrival in a 1 bedroom master suite, we found some goodies for our toddler. Sand bucket with beach toys, crayons and colouring book,a tshirt, baby bath, baby mosquito repellant, kids tooth brush and tooth paste, baby shampoo, baby bath, and kids Sun screen. All stuff I didn't need to pack! I also got everything I requested in advance: microwave to warm and sterilize bottles with (they did offer me a bottle warmer and sterilizer), crib, potty was available in the room, whole milk in the fridge. The room also has a Nespresso coffee machine which was a nice touch. We had three not so good nights at the resort. First night we froze as we couldn't figure out why despite turning off the AC, it was still blasting cold air (found a second thermostat that had to be turned down as well). Two different nights the staff after cleaning left the TV on in a vacant room next to us, so we had TV noise all night long (and when I called guest services they didn't understand what I was calling about). Now the service was not that great in my opinion. More often than not we had to ask for a high chair or drinks twice before we got them. Most high chairs lack trays, and the high chairs don't fit well under the tables in most buffets and restaurants, so that meant we couldn't let our toddler feed himself much. Sometimes we requested a tray and they found one. I am not convinced they clean them well between use, especially having seen how they clean the tables between parties at the buffet - use the dirty napkins to flick the crumbs off. No proper wiping with a disinfectant. We also both had an upset stomach for the first three days or our stay, so something wasn't right with the food for us. Poolside drink service was very scarce, especially by the kiddie pool. It wasn't until the end of the week we found some great service (Maria E. Who worked at Fuego restaurant and Gabi Beach) and a young bar keeper (name started with L, didn't catch it unfortunately) at the main resort pool swim up bar. They were super friendly, efficient, and great with my son. We ended up spending more time at the main resort. The Gabi Beach buffet is beautiful so we had our breakfasts and lunches there as the service as the Reserve buffet was very slow and the selection smaller. The main resort pool is also much nicer so we enjoyed that with our toddler. The beach was too rough to swim in while we were there and there was a lot of seaweed, so we spent most of our time at the pools (which was fine with me!). As for the concierge, our first concierge Elaine was very friendly, and she stopped by our cabana every morning to check on us, and messaged us via WhatsApp every afternoon to see if we needed anything. She also made all of our dinner reservations based on my taste preferences up front at the beginning of our stay for the entire stay. Unfortunately she left halfway through and we got another concierge who never checked on us until a few hours before checkout to see what time we wanted the bell hop to come pick up our luggage. If I had one thing to suggest to management: help your staff develop better customer service skills. Not sure if the tables to staff ratios are too high that they don't have time to serve everyone properly, or if they just need more training. Shouldn't have to always ask twice for a high chair or a drink (and I have read this in other reviews as well). Maybe leave cleaned high chairs lined up by the entrance so that one can be grab one on the way to the table rather than someone having to remember to fetch one from the back. somewhere. The facilities and landscaping were clean and beautiful. Just the service is what made the stay less than perfect for us.
