We stayed in The Reef Playacar and went to the japanese restaurant in The Reef Coco Beach. We loved it! The show is really entertaining and the food is delicious! We would definitely go again and recommend it

Stayed here for 6 nights with my fiancé. Looks nice and grand when you first get there and as you walk through to the pool area it’s very lush due to the boardwalk and greenery that surrounds it. Looks resort like. The rooms were good. Large and clean and ours quite modern. Some days our bathroom wasn’t restocked properly and we called them twice and even walked out to the reception twice but it either took ages to arrive or not at all. However We stayed their on a Saturday night and if you are on one particular side of the resort there is a nightclub right next door which played deafening music from around midday to 4am. This is not the resorts fault but just be mindful that if you are on that side of the resort and their on a Saturday night it will be very hard to get sleep. Stayed all inclusive but you have to pay for 2 out of the 4 restaurants that are on offer. In saying that the japenese restaurant (which is $25 p/p) was worth it as it is tepanyaki and the staff put on quite a show while cooking your food. And you get 4 courses. The Italian restaurant you didn’t have to pay for and that was really nice also :) The buffet was average- really didn’t find that much variety and food not the best. The service in the buffet restaurant is not the best either. Apart from juice that you can easily get yourself if you want any other drink the wait staff don’t really see that as a priority. Most days we would finish eating before they asked us if we wanted anything to drink The staff are ok. We had no issue with them we just didn’t find them as accommodating and friendly as the resort we stayed in when we were in Cancun the week before. Poolside does have some poolside entertainment but quite bland and boring doing the same thing most days and not making much effort to get people to join in ( basing this on our last resort which really made the effort to make sure everyone was included and that everyone had fun which this place really did not) This resort is nice and is quiet, for what we payed for it’s rather good but probably wouldn’t stay again.

Wonderful Trip

This was our first trip to The Reef and it will most definetly not be our last. We purchased the membership and have already planned another trip to stay in May of this year. The service was great! The food was fantastic. CocoBeach was perfect. Close to the water. Close to 5th ave. It was just perfect.

An quaint all-inclusive resort.

We just returned from a 1 week stay at this small all-inclusive resort. We opted for the upgrade to receive top-shelf liquor and other amenities. I don't believe we received any special treatment with the gold band but it was nice to have the top-shelf liquor/mini-bar. After checking-in at the front desk we were sent to the Concierge whom immediately tried to sell us excursions, etc. and didn't give us a map of the resort at all instead was telling us of all of the areas to eat at outside the resort...It was as if they didn't want us to eat there....He did not stop we had to finally tell him firmly to take us to our room and we were not interested as we were hungry and thirsty from traveling and just wanted our room. They then call your room and tell you you have a welcome gift, which is a sales pitch for a time-share...We also had to be firm with this which entailed unplugging the phone in order to be left alone to start our vacation.. The service in general was inconsistent at the resort. Which was my biggest issue with this quaint resort. For instance the swim-up bar...the bartenders tend bar at the upper part of the bar and do not deliver the drinks to you at the swim-up bar, instead they walk on top of the bar or around it to hand you your drink? We like to hang out at the swim-up bar on these types of vacations and to us this was rather disappointing. Also, there was only a poolside waitress a few of the days while we were there, but not everyday. Service in the Italian, Mexican and Japanese restaurants was good, very professional. At the buffet restaurant the service was okay, however, the omelet person was not happy, I am not sure what her deal was. The lobby bartenders and coffee person in the lobby (I believe Francisco) were quite lovely and friendly. Since, the resort is small it was nice to be able to walk to get anywhere in minutes and not have to worry about making reservations at the restaurants (aside from the Japanese). The location was nice with it being a few blocks to 5th Avenue. The beach was full of seaweed and boats so not swimmable. But we came to the resort knowing about the boats. The food at the Italian restaurant was my favorite. The Mexican was pretty good too and the Japanese was good as well. You have to pay extra for seafood though. The buffet food was not up to par in my opinion, same for the snack bar. The food at the snack bar was a fresher option but the service was inconsistent. Some days you order up at the counter some days you have a server. And some days they leave the food up there and you need to get it. The Breakfast buffet and the Italian restaurant were the best. Overall for the price this resort met most of our needs. However, we were really looking forward to the swim-up bar and being catered to a bit for the week and these areas need improvement.

The location of the hotel is great for walking to 5th Ave. Only three blocks till you are at the start of the shopping area. It is however quite a long walk to the Ferry . Great sight seeing however and lots to eat along the way while browsing . Only a $7. cab ride back if you decide to instead of walking. Pool is great ,lots of lounge chairs without having to play the towel game ! Staff are friendly and helpful. Food is generally good , but room temperature most of the time . The best meal of the day is breakfast . Omelets made to order are great , lots of fresh fruit as well. Mexican and Italian restaurants upstairs are good but you may go away hungry. Depending on your waiter you may have good service or not ! The beach sadly is a dissapointment due to the marina boats anchored so spoils your view . The water is always being stirred up and so no nice clear blue water as in other locations in Mexico . The water is warm still and the weather hot so you can still enjoy cooling off in the ocean. The sea grass this season is horrible and a never ending work project for the staff at all of the resorts along the way , not just at the Reef.If you upgrade for $19 per person US per day you may use the Reef Playacar which is the sister hotel . I think this would be a good option for the price . The nightclub to the West of the building will keep you up till at least 4 am if they happen to be open . Sadly the hotel does not have any control over the events at the club so if your on that side of the hotel and they are having an opening be prepared to either join in or be awake most of the night .
