We return year after year because of the wonderful restaurant waiters like Gabi's Roosevelt Belltne and the activities people who teach yoga, dance...I even tried paddle board yoga this time and it was great, with the help of Eddie and Alex.

Staying at the Melia Carbie Tropical with 9 friends was an excellent choice. The hotel and the beach are beautiful. The food is excellent. Employees are very helpful and friendly. All outdoor activities were well organized and fun. We had a great time.

Our 2nd visit was so disappointing

We spent 2 great weeks here 1 year ago, and wanted to repeat this in Jan 2018, but we experienced that quality and service have so significantly decreased within this year. I assume there was a management change or similar. The nicest experience was with the housemaids from our complex 43xx. They recognised us from our first visit and did an excellent job and kept our room in excellent shape. Many thanks, ladies. 1. During our 2nd night there was a large and scary fire at night 1 a.m. The main buffet restaurant and 2 nearby restaurants burned down. We woke up because guests in our building screamed and shouted. We went outside and saw the large fire. It was very scary. There was no one from the hotel explaining what to do and where to go, nor was there a general emergency call/alarm that night, or at least an information letter to the room the next day. We got the information about what happened from a facebook page (not the official page of the hotel) and from the news the next day. Bad information politics and handling of emergency situations. 2. After spending 1 night in a rotten old family room near the pool area we managed to move to a renovated nice room near the lobby. After spending there 1 week, the reception is now bothering us since 2 days to change our room again. They are telling us that we had been „upgraded“ and want to re-locate us again to the area with the rotten old family rooms. Ridiculous. I assume they want our nice room for some Level guests... 3. My partner and I are suffering since 3 days from diarrhea, nausea and severe stomach pain. Food in the buffet restaurant (they opened the beach restaurant now for dinner, as the main restaurant burned down)is not hot enough and there a lot of flies - I have doubts regarding the hygienic circumstances! 4. Service is terrible, most employees do not understand the simplest English sentences, and they do not seem that they like to work here. No smile, no „hello“ and some waiters are pouring the drinks so roughly into your glass that it is swapping. One bold guy at the beach bar was extremely unfriendly even not looking at you and throwing the drinks and straws to you in a crude manner. Terrible. 5. They are not able at the exchange office or at the reception to change 5 dollar notes into 1 dollar notes so that you can tip. The reception told us that we could ask the luggage boys to change, ridiculous. As a consequence we stopped tipping as we dont want to tip with 5 dollars. The hotel does not seem interested that their staff is tipped. First time that I experienced this in a hotel. 6. The hotel beach has become the most ugly one of all the hotels nearby. They put a floating black ugly plastic barrier in the sea, which destroys the sea view. Since a storm a few days ago, one of the ends is loosely floating around, looking like garbage. The seaweed is not removed- other hotels nearby do this - even the cheap looking ones. 7. Towels: Standard green beach towels are ugly and too small. Sone of them look like 10 years old. In the central gym in the level area, there are never towels in the morning. You have to wipe off your sweat with paper towels. Annoying. 8. They have 7 Tennis courts- 4 clay courts were not operated at all (we were not informed about this in advance), and only 1 from the hard courts was acceptable with regards to quality. We could play the first week there, but since last Monday the flood light does not work properly, and despite we have notified this already 3 times, nothing happened. We cannot even move to another court today and tomorrow because they want to paint them. Very disppointing, as we are very much keen to play tennis in the evenings before dinner. We are so disappointed and it is the first time in my life that I am writing such a bad critics about a holiday hotel and that I am happy to go back from vacation to my home soon! The Melia corporation should really have a closer look to the management here. We will look out for another hotel the next time in DR.

Worst Resort I've ever been to

Our check in was about 2 hours in a lobby without any air conditioning, front desk was very rude and extremely unorganized. There was no indication that our apple vacations reservation was to be check in at another location. We reserved 2 rooms #720-#721. The bathrooms were disgusting, dirty rooms, musty smell, the double beds they advertised are actually twin beds. In my kids room the AC didn't work, their lights went out. When we ask for these things to be fixed they fix the lights but not the AC. The food was low quality this was so disappointing. At the restaurant near the beach there were so many flies on top of the food it was terrible. Every single night we had to wait at least 1hour to 1 1/2 to go into any of the restaurants because the lines were so long and some nights some of the restaurants were closed. Spoke with other families that were staying there and they were furious of the poor service, food etc. The resort is so big that you have to wait for a train for transportation from your room to the restaurants it was annoying because for 2 days they only had one train because the other one was broken. The beach was full of seaweed so swimming was impossible. There are no clubs or activities for teenagers. A lot of drunk people at night, if you don't drink alcohol and go clubbing there are no other activities offered at night. Basketball court is $15.00 an hour for them to turn the lights on after 8pm. Room service is $41.00 per day. There's no ice maker in the buildings and the mini fridge didn't keep drinks cool enough. Pool and beach closes at 7pm I was extremely upset about this. They literally take you out by 7pm.. The Level Club which is an exclusive area is prohibited to go there unless you're staying in that section and that's where the adult pool is at. This resort is very disorganized like one department doesn't communicate with the other. Our 1st visit to Punta Cana has been a big disappointment.

Needs some updating....

My husband has a busy job so took some time off after New Year to recharge the batteries. I always like to be balanced so will list the Positives & Negatives Negatives Check-in is long. Be prepared for a long wait. I have 2 impatient children, so it was quite painful We ordered a Junior suite which promised garden/pool views. The suite did not look like the picture and the view was the road where all the golf buggies/ trains transport guests around the resort. We could not sit on the veranda because of the strong smell of gasoline and felt like we were in a zoo as too close to the road. We were woken up throughout the night by the sound of the transport and hotel guests....not really what my husband was after for a few days of relaxation. The staff were slow to react and when we were eventually moved, we were moved one block down with exactly the same problems! Eventually, after a significant proportion of stay already gone, we were moved to a quieter location with pool views, but we never got to unpack our cases because of the slow customer service response. It tainted our stay if I am completely honest.... The rooms are in desperate need of some updating and damp.... There was a fire so the Italian and Thai restaurants were closed. This meant demand for other restaurants was elevated and the wait times were significantly increased...I heard lots of disgruntled customers We went to the hard tennis courts and then discovered they needed to be pre-booked so only got to play once despite carting 4 tennis rackets and balls internationally. We enquired about the clay courts but they were being renovated. However, when we drove past it didn't look like much renovation was taking place...just nets removed.... Food is average but much the same as most "all inclusive offerings". The restaurant staff didn't seem at all happy...some were borderline rude.... Quite a few beach sellers....I think I was asked 15 times if my daughter wanted braids! Wifi was a little frustrating. Positives The beach was nice. Pool areas seemed well maintained although we didn't spend any time at the pool. Didn't have to wait too long for drinks Nice touches in rooms: bathrobes, slippers, umbrellas, toiletry products Public bathroom facilities well maintained The gym facilities looked new and modern. My tip would be the Mexican restaurant....
