Blush-pink sand and turquoise water give The Crane Resort a special place in the Caribbean. This lovely historic retreat is located in Barbados, about five miles northeast of Grantley Adams International Airport.

Cherished for its casual luxury and warm hospitality, this splendid beach is protected by a natural coral reef just offshore, and touted as the first resort ever to grace the Caribbean. Glide through crystal waters in one of four sparkling pools, including an infinity-edge design, and an even more unusual version that teeters on the edge of a cliff. Guests will enjoy six swimming pools, two tennis courts, four restaurants, two bars, and a colorful shopping village. Lush coconut groves linger on this gorgeous tropical landscape dusted in rosy sand, boasting cascading pools and the best swimming on the island.

Housing a trio of fantastic dining venues, the hotel retains some of the most delicious menu items in the Caribbean. Dine at L'Azure Restaurant for a tempting range of classic island dinners, fresh seafood and ocean-view seating. Thai and Japanese cuisine unite at Zen Restaurant, offering a succulent sushi bar, private dining options and soothing Tatami, rice-straw crafted rooms.

Kids ages 4-12 will love the Calypso Kids Club. Located within the Crane Village, children will take part in a variety of fun-filled activities such as arts and crafts, movies, magic, and more. Babysitting services are also available.

Enjoy high-ceiling rooms, hardwood floors, and authentic antique furnishings. Relax on enormous four-poster beds carved from mahogany, or for even more luxurious accommodation, spend a night in a magnificent Penthouse Villa, with floor-to-ceiling louvered doors, stone floors, a gourmet kitchen, and extraordinary views of the island. Private Residences are also available, equipped with opulent amenities such as coral stone walls, private plunge pools and all the privacy you can envision.

ULTIMATE RESORT

The Crane is the most amazing resort. They have 3 VERY upscale restaurants so be prepared for the prices. We had an awesome place 2 bathrooms kitchen, dining area, living room, with sofa beds,bedroom-king size bed, bathroom with jacuzzi. We used the large patio with lounge chairs, table etc. and best of all a dipping pool. The staff was so friendly--make sure to say hi to Sammy...he rides the 3 wheeled trike. He will have a hug for everyone! The concierge people have lots of tours and shuttles available. Take advantage of them as you are isolated. Well stocked store and ice cream/pastry cafe.Elevator down to beach with free chairs. The waves were to rough for swimming(which is normal) rocks, riptides, no lifeguard etc. Does have bar and grill.Multiple pools-great for families. The staff is very friendly and the grounds are impeccable. I would go back in a flash. It is a wonderful resort.

My husband and I were guests of relatives in a 2 bedrooms residence for almost 2 weeks. We had a ball, everything is beautiful, the colour of the sea particularly. From our hosts terrace we had a superb view of the gardens and brakers. I have read some negative comments about the air conditioning at the crane but with the lovely warm breeze we were never too hot and sticky and never used air conditioning. We are st the Italian restaurant , the Carriage house and the 1887 bar and all the food was great. The staff were helpful and interested and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone.

Gospel Brunch

A special Sunday morning brunch at the fabulous Crane Resort featured a Gospel Choir compromised of local who sang a selection of traditional and Barbadian hymns.residents.The buffet was good, but we enjoyed much better at comparable resorts in Mexico. This place is well worth the drive for this special event. We hope to stay here on our next Barbados vacation. We are currently in Hastings on the South Coast which should be avoided entirely until the sewers are functional. Not much fun away from home sick with gastrointestinal virus!

It really doesn’t get any better than this!!

My husband and I have been visiting the Crane for the past 8 years. We have travelled the island many times and visited other hotels but never chose to stay anywhere else- why? It checks all the boxes. It’s a very large resort- large enough that you can easily spend a week here without feeling like you need to venture out. That said, there are lots of interesting attractions on the island (Harrison’s Cave, Hunte’s Gardens and St Nicholas Abbey are among our favorites). The Rooms: The accommodations are gorgeous- classic British plantation style with plenty of dark wood, white linens and sofas and limestone walls. The bathrooms are large with a jetted tub that easily fits two people. We have stayed in several rooms in the old hotel and style- and location-wise it has our favorite rooms. We have also stayed in small garden view suites, ocean view suites, and one bedroom suites with a plunge pool. The latter is definitely worth the extra cost, especially on a higher floor. The Restaurants: L’ Azure (Caribbean contemporary) is an absolutely fabulous choice for lunch and dinner. The quality of the food is amazing only upstaged by the sweeping views of the beach and ocean 100+ ft below. Definitely worth the splurge (though we’re not big fans of their breakfasts). Zen is only open for dinner. They offer Thai and Japanese menus which is a nice option when you want something a little less formal than L’Azure. Ask for one of the private booths or a table next to the window. When we do Japanese we like sitting at the sushi bar. Bar 1887 is great for happy hour and tapas. They usually have music and dancing at night which makes it a fun place to start or end your evening. We go to the Carriage House for lunch when we’re in bathing suits. It’s super casual tavern food with grill options. Even more casual is The Grove located on the beach. Perfectly named, it’s the place to grab a mid day cocktail and BBQ or sandwiches. They also deliver chair side if you are too relaxed to move! We have ventured off the resort numerous times to try other recommended restaurants but honestly have never found any place that has better food options that are worth the extra time and expense (taxi/rental) to get there. All the rooms at the Crane have well equipped kitchens and you can get a nice selection of very fairly-priced provisions at the onsite grocery if you chose to eat in every now and then. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, just ask as the staff will order it in for you. The Grounds: You will be spoilt for choice! We like hanging out at the pool near the spa on Sunday’s as you can listen to the Gospel singing coming from brunch at L’Azure. Other than that, we spend all of our time on the spectacular Crane Beach walking, reading or body surfing- lots of fun things to do. Don’t miss feeding the huge pool of carp behind the carriage house and book at service at the spa. My husband and I agree we get the very best massages on earth here! The Staff: Every person you meet whether they’re at the front desk, spa, concierge, the beach, one of the bars or restaurants, housekeeping, even the grocery store (!) is so friendly and accommodating. There is literally no request that isn’t met. Everyone is professional and well trained at what they do and they seem to enjoy working here which of course benefits the guests. I can’t really highlight any by name as this review would then be twice as long- everyone is great! Few last things: don’t bother renting a car. It’s not easy getting around (esp at night) and it’s way more relaxing to hire a driver and sit back and take in the sites. A taxi from the airport (a 15 min drive) is $31 BDS/$16 USD each way. Have exact amount on hand as most taxi drivers we’ve met never seem to have change. Finally, when departing for home, leave -3 hours ahead of time to get through check-in, security and customs at the airport as it’s very chaotic and unorganized. It will test your patience for sure!
