My only complaint is the 4 + hr layover in Miami on our way back. When I first got our itinerary I called and asked about the long layover. I was told it was because we had to go thru customs in Miami. Well, we went thru customs in St. Croix before we boarded.

Everything we could have wanted to have or do at the Buccaneer was provided. The staff was exceptional and went above and beyond to make our stay flawless! Their personal attention made it feel like a boutique hotel and we mattered. We will absolutely stay there again!!

Despite a beautiful property the service was inconsistent at best and several moments that were very, very poor. Some areas of the property were simply ignored by housekeeping including feces that were left in the main stairwell more than 24 hours. I regret the decision to stay at the Buccaneer.

Absolutly 1st class. Hotel is managed by a hands on manager/owner. The Buccaneer treats all of the guests as part of the Buccaneer family. The wine and snack basket delivered to your home upon arrival is a most welcomed treat. The golf course has many beautiful views of the island and ocean. I have stayed at The Buccaneer for the past 30 years and every year the improvements continue to enhance the experience.

Great place to relax!

Me and my husband came here for the half of the day to relax on the beach. Had lunch in the restaurant, which was ok. The facilities look good. The stuff told us that next time we come for half of the day we would have to pay, which is ok as most of the places do that but I know for a fact my friends were there a week before (also just for half of the day) and they were never asked to pay a day pass. I find it a bit strange - if you have a day pass then you have it for everybody!

Great Experience, Would be Even Better if it was All-Inclusive

If you want to visit St Croix this is the place to stay. We stayed at a deluxe oceanfront room which had an amazing view of the area. Food was good, though as referenced in the title, it would be great if they could offer all-inclusive packages. The hotel is isolated enough that you won't hear any noise from the roads or nearby homes. The included beach equipment, inc. snorkel equipment, is a great addition. The roads in St Croix are terrible, but Christiansted, Frederiksted and the Cruzan Rum/Captain Morgan's distilleries are not far from the resort. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Worst service in the Caribbean (and my first negative review since 1996!)

I usually get home from vacation excited to write a review extolling all of the wonderful things about the resort and island that we just visited. In looking back at my reviews, I see that the last negative review that I gave was 21 years ago! So I do not take the writing of a negative reviews lightly. We stayed at the Buccaneer from December 25-January 1 with our 3 teenagers, however, and it was hands down the worst experience we have ever had on a vacation. I'll begin with what is always the most important aspect to any good vacation- the service. It was absolutely dreadful here. Although many of the waitstaff were pleasant, the food at lunch and dinner took forever! We always account for "Caribbean time" when we are on the islands and appreciate the laid back pace. But even when the beach restaurant was only half full, you could not get out of lunch in under 2 hrs. We tried going at noon. We tried 2:00. It did not make a difference. On 3 occasions, after we had been sitting there for 45 minutes, the waiter/waitress came out to tell us that one of the items we ordered was no longer available. They even ran out of lettuce! The staff regularly forgot to bring you things you ordered and during the Xmas buffet, they actually started putting all the food away when at least 50 guests were still eating! We started wondering if this was all just our bad luck until we heard many other guests complain to their servers as well. In addition, the "beach service" they advertise on their website is nonexistent. In the week we were there, we were not approached on the beach once by waitstaff with an offer to get any of us anything to eat or drink. We have never experienced that before at any of the resorts of this supposed quality that we have stayed at. The concierge desk tried to be helpful, but were not super knowledgable about many of the excursions. We did enjoy our horseback riding, but the bioluminescent kayaking had no bioluminescence at all, and we were told not to bring any snacks on the sunset cruise as they were provided, which proved to be false info. Once on board, the cruise staff said they had not provided snacks for quite some time! We would have enjoyed the outing more if we were all not so hungry.... On the plus side, the resort is very pretty. However, the rooms are dated and our bathroom had an ant problem. They also have a huge bug issue. By 4:00 every day we would start getting attacked by the tiny little (mosquitos?) that were all over. We were all pretty bitten up by day 3. The hotel does provide bug spray in your room if you don't mind smelling like Off all day. After witnessing an altercation on the beach and some groups of intoxicated people, we also learned that their beach is open to the public which created a louder and less secure environment. The food is decent, but you get bored of it very quickly. When we booked this resort, we were under the impression that there were 3 distinct restaurants for dinner- The Mermaid, The Lounge and the Terrace. When we arrived, we discovered that the Mermaid only served dinner until 8:00, and their dinner menu was the same as their lunch menu which is where we ate every day already as it is on the beach. The Terrace and the Lounge ended up being adjoining restaurants serving the same menu which did not change at all from night to night. We ate out a few nights instead, but there are only a few cab drivers servicing the resort, and they charge per person, so each trip outside of the hotel got very expensive. (on that note, none of the excursions include transfers in their pricing, so you can expect to spend another $150 round trip for a family of 5, for each one of them.) We tried to reach out to management to talk to them about some of the issues, but were told that the owner, Elizabeth, was off property. She never responded, not did the woman who was supposedly in charge while she was away. In fact, no one at the front desk or anyone in any position of authority really seemed to be willing to address any issues. For the money you spend at this resort and getting around the island, you are much better off with another option. Sandy Lane in Barbados is not that much more expensive and is a much nicer resort with impeccable service. I would very highly recommend the Marriott Beach Resort or the Ritz in Grand Cayman, Spice Island Beach Resort in Grenada and St. James Club in Antigua. We stayed at the Nizuc in November and it is a gem with top notch service. The Buccaneer pales in comparison to any of these and we would not recommend it to anyone.

We stayed in #334 with a beautiful patio and very large room. Fridge and separate area for your clothes are added benefits. We ate at both the Terrace (amazing views) and Mermaid Beach (casual and good), which was barely a walk from the unit. Took a golf lesson - Kenneth was the best! Waterfront location is the big sell, but it's also very close to Christiansted which has many restaurants and shopping. Staff was extremely responsive to our requests and we literally had not one person who didn't smile! Thank you Buccaneer staff - you have a new fan. We look forward to our return.

Great place! Stayed December 16-23

We had booked an AirBNB for our stay on St. Croix, but when we arrived to the island the owner had not entered our stay. After some panicking, a resident suggested the Buccaneer. Thank goodness. I called the reservation dept and inquired if they had a room available for the duration of our trip, and thankfully they did. We drove over - not knowing anything about the resort. When we arrived to the hotel (after 12+hours of travel), we were warmly welcomed and provided a beachfront room. Breakfast is included with the stay (bonus!). I wish I recall the kind lady who took our reservation as she couldn't have been any more hospitable. They even gave us a very strong rum punch due to our travel debacle. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff was very friendly (thank you to CJ and Bethanny) and would always say hello when they saw us. I traveled with my kids -plenty to do on site. We took advantage of the games by Mermaid Beach, resort diving instruction, kayaking and tennis. There is also a golf course for the golfers. The concierge was particularly helpful giving us ideas on day trips, etc. We went to Buck Island for a 1/2 day snorkel trip and the boat picked us up right on property at the Mermaid dock. There is a market close to the resort (including a deli), and we were able to load up on beverages and snacks for our room. If you are staying for a while, I suggest doing this as you will save some $$ on drinks and food. The food onsite was always good with a diverse menu. The ahi poke dish was awesome! Room was clean and well appointed and suited our needs just fine. 4 of us stayed in one room and we never felt like we were stumbling over each other. We had a great stay - thank you!
