Overall happy with the trip, would go back in a minute. The ride from the airport ( 1.5 to 2 hours ) was an experience, not so much bad, they drive on the left side of the road and tailgate but no one gets any roadrage. Resort was nice, could eat and drink most anytime. Stayed in the South tower which they said was quiter, not sure I agree with that, still heard lots of noise; music and inconsiderate guests being loud in the halls late at night. Didn't think to put the ac fan on to run all the time till the last night which helped with the noise. The bathroom was really small, but it good enough didn't spend much time in the room, never turned the tv on....The staff is friendly for the most part, bartenders are nice, a dollar or two tip helps.... We tipped a few dollars alot just because we appreciated how much the staff was catering to us and our group. Did get ripped off at the Dunns river falls ( rock climb ) paid $40 for a dvd of our climb and the dvd is blank...The rock climb itself was fun, a guide takes you up. The dvd has nothing to do with the resort though. First time in Jamaica, was a little leary about leaving the US but all and all have no major complaints other than it rained our last full day..

This hotel is not a five star resort, but was good for the price. Enjoyed our stay! Rooms are in need of a good cleaning / repair / painting. You are not in the room much so its acceptable for sleeping. Would probably not stay in Ocho Rios again, only because there wasn't much to do outside of the .. More>

The rooms were fair and we had to give the maid service a tip before they would clean the room. The rest of the hotel was beautiful but the pools closed at 5:00PM and didn't open up until 9:00Am. You would think with five pools two of them could have had later hours. They had a beautiful beach. The .. More>

The hotel is older but on a nice property with a nice beach and good views. The hotel staff is generally pretty friendly but the whole place isn't very component. The hotel is older but on a nice property with a nice beach and good views. The hotel staff is generally pretty friendly but the whole place isn't very component. We had 3 people staying in our room and EVERY SINGLE NIGHT we had to call down for more towels (some nights we didn't get any towels) and sometimes we had to call twice. We asked for an extra pillow at 10PM and it was delivered at 2:30AM, waking everyone up. The hotel ran out of ice, cups, silverware, and beach towels. We were traveling spring break week so I understand things are BUSY but they should be able to staff accordingly. The pool bars only had 1-2 bartenders staffed at a time which resulted in long lines...they needed at least 4 bartenders at each pool bar! Overall we had a terrific vacation as we were just looking to relax and getaway; the all inclusive aspect is nice, the food was decent, and the service was slow...but really, how hard is it to leave 3 sets of clean towels in the room every night??? As long as you're not high maintenance and can take things with a sense of humor this might not be a terrible place to stay but you can probably find a nicer place for about the same or not a lot more $.

Amenities were not as indicated; swim up bars were not staffed; coffee bean cafe was closed; sailing was very limited; due to overbooking we were only allowed to have dinner reservations for three nights and they picked the restaurants, times and dates; we were not allowed to choose. Due to overbooking linen service was inadequate. Long lines and waiting for drinks; bars were not staffed appropriately for the number of guests.

Within walking distance of shopping! Great beach and pool/outdoor areas and amenities! Transport from the airport to the hotel was unorganized and stressful....long bus trip, overbooked. Good food! Beds are so-so, towels, pillows and blankets are in short supply.

The food was tasty but you had to wait in line at the buffet and if you wanted a omelet the line was always long. I waited once and the omelet was great. Coffee was awful (not the blue mountain) and there were only 2 coffee stations in the hotel not in the locations mentioned in information. Drink .. More>

They never had enough bartenders or glasses. Cheap liquor and tap beer. Room was small and they only gave you 2 bath towels?? Facilities were nice enough and pools were shallow but water seemed clean. One of the beach towel windows was seldom open?

Entertainment was very good, they had a nice variety and the talent was excellent. The entertainment director as with all the staff was great. Thanks Crazy Chris. The resort itself is laid out well. Beaches and Pools are very good. lots of room. You can tell the resort has been around for a while as some upgrades are needed. WiFi only available in lobby and must pay extra for it. The two hour bus ride is a negative and the fact Westjet left some of our luggage behind on the way down put a damper on the start. Good experience and good resort. Not a 5 star but a good resort nonetheless.

We heard great reviews hence why we booked. However it took foever to check in despite checking in online and when we finally reached our room we found one towel for three people and one drinking glass. We had to call front desk six times before we had somebody just come to check what we needed. Finally by 7pm we had towels to take a shower. Internet is not free and is only accessible in the lobby which really sucks!! We were told that you are able to make dinner reservations one night before and came to find out the whole week was already booked. In all this place was not very good. You can find better places to stay in Jamaica!!! we will not be back that is for sure. :(:(:(

I visited the sunset grande Ocho Rios in July 2011, upon arrival our room was not ready but that wasn't a big deal just enjoyed a drink and lunch. Once we returned the front desk upgraded our room to the cabana (sweet), that was a bonus. I must say the lobby is wonderful and the staff was ok (nothing to write home about), two guys were so busy on their cell phones that they choose not to acknowledge us standing there waiting for them to assist us with the sail boat. I'm not high maintenance so that did not dampen my trip. The rooms are dated but hey how much time do you spend in there. I wanted to go somewhere that I can relax at the pool side with a nice drink and fall asleep (mission accomplished). If all you need is decent food, somewhere on a budget and to de- stress this place will do the job.

I read lots and lots of reviews on this property before I booked and before we went on vacation. I read a lot of good and I read a lot of bad. There were never really in between. A lot of the people who rated this hotel as "great, awesome, superb" were first timers of all-inclusive resorts. Having been to a phenomenal all-inclusive in Mexico several years ago, we knew how great a resort could be. If someone has never been to an all-inclusive resort, this might be a great "starter" vacation as the price was definitely affordable. With that being said... We went to Jamaica being very open-minded. We did not spend a ton of money on the vacation, but we did spend enough that a good-time should be warranted. Read on to find out the good, the bad, and the ugly (how cliche, right?) of Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort: CHECK IN: - Very Slow - Room was not ready / room requested was not available / Had to settle for double beds ... but a bonus was we got upgraded to "beach view". We had a gorgeous view of the entire resort, the beach, the mountains, etc. - Front desk employees needed more training on how to use their system AND customer service - they were extremely rude and uncaring. HOTEL: - South Tower: this was where we stayed...it was a little outdated compared to North Tower. However, the room was spacious and nice. We had a walk out balcony with a chair. Great for the mornings and evenings. - Lobby: large with lots of seating, a small casino, a large bar, and brilliant staircases. ACTIVITIES: - Pools....they were cleaned at night. they stayed mostly clean during the day, but there were a couple that would get pretty disgusting mid-afternoon. There was a pool for every person....quiet, honey-mooners, partiers, kids, adults-only, etc. There were also plenty of chairs to set your sunscreen, towels, etc. on. - Water Slide: Only 1 of the 2 was open, but it was never crowded. There were usually just adults on it, too! Had a blast on it -- the husband went on it dozens of times a day. Only con was that you had to walk up a ton of stairs to get to the top...they needed an elevator :) - Water Sports: We never did any of the water sports, but there were quite a few that were free for hotel guests. A lot of people we met really enjoyed snorkeling. - Kids Clubs: We did not bring kids, but from walking by the designated areas we saw that not too many kids were involved. They were usually with their parents. Really, the only thing there was to do for kids was play on the beach or in the pool. Evenings would be very boring because there were no activities geared towards children. I honestly would pick another resort if you're bringing your kiddos. FOOD AND DRINKS: - Drinks were good...strong. It was weird, though, because you had to ASK for alcohol in your Pina Coladas and Strawberry Daiquiris. - Bring your own to go mug or cup. The resort frequently runs out of cups...especially at meal times or late in the evenings. Pretty annoying, and they are NOT quick to wash and put out new ones. - The food was TERRIBLE. Lunch and Dinner at the buffets was usually the same or close to the same as the day/night before. The meat was disgusting. I seriously lived on toast for breakfast and rolls/bread for lunch and dinner two nights in a row. - Reservations were SO hard to get. We scheduled them as soon as we checked in and got two for the 5 days we stayed. We ate at the Italian Restaurant one evening. That left a lot to be desired. Then our last night we ate at the Caribbean Restaurant. I will give the Caribbean Restaurant 4 stars because it was pretty tasty and our service was great. Make sure to make reservations ASAP or else you'll be stuck with the nasty buffets your entire visit. -Hopefully you like Coke products. They had Coke, Sprite, and Ginger Ale. Plus some watered down fruit juices and water. That was it for non-alcoholic beverages. - *FUN TIP* - At the edge of the resort there is a gentleman who will knock a coconut down from a tree, chop off the top, chop the bottom to make it level, and stick a straw in it. You pay him a dollar and get fresh, tasty coconut water straight from the fruit! MAKE SURE to stay on the RESORT'S SIDE OF THE FENCE. There are people on the other side trying to sell you anything and everything. (hairbraids, ganja, fruit, ganja, ganja, wooden souvienrs, ganja....if you catch my drift-lol!) Employees: - Most of the employees were SUPER nice. Just watch the employees at the front desk and the ones in the gift shop. Incredibly rude, uncaring, and hateful. Check Out; - Super Fast! *** Be aware. Marijuana is all around you. This may be true at any resort in Jamaica; however, wherever you walked you could smell it. Pretty disgusting for a country that deems the drug as illegal *** This hotel could have so much more....but it was lacking in a lot of areas. Make sure you pay a very discounted price - or else find a different resort. We will not be returning!

It has been a while since we went away but we booked the Sunset Jamaica and after reading some negative reviews I was really worried... I have to say I should not of been worried at all ! Breakfast team were fantastic Cruise, Serena and their leader Jas did everything they could to make our stay fab they went above and beyond to be helpful ! In the Evening Charmaine was brilliant as well always making sure we didn't want for anything. There was loads of places to eat throughout the day and night and food selection was really good with so much choice ....Drinks flowed constantly never were we dry once! We had our daughter with us she is 6 and loved the water slide and the pools..... The pool cleaner we watched most days he was soooo thorough and did every cm of them pools he really did take a pride in it.The entertainment was fabulous as well with fire eaters and pirates ;-) Rooms were great we were in the south building on level 3 lovely view everyone was polite happy smiley and helpful, everything was clean as well around the complex. So if I had to be picky.......on a few occasions we had no towels that would be my only issue we had to call to get some and on occasions it was a while before they arrived. Front desk were helpful but on occasions were really packed and found it difficult to acknowledge people in the queue I'd say they need more staff on very often were under staffed All in all A really pleasant fun stay ;-)
