First, we were told it was about a 45 minute scenic drive to our hotel from the airport. We were appalled when the ride took over 2 hours and drove us through poverty, dead animals, and we were stopped and solicited to buy food drinks. The hotel was not fun at all , the management is really bad , many many rooms and yet very few amenities. There is always a long slow moving line for everything including the elevator , food was horrible , you have to get up at 8amand stand in a long line to reserve a restaurant for the next day .. stayed at this hotel in April and we had an excellant vacation. There was plenty of food in the buffet at all times and the food was great every time. Visited all of the a la carte restaurants and they were all good.. service was great. The rooms are out dated stayed in north and south side didnt find a big difference in either wing had a ocean front room. However found them very clean and that was important for us. Didn't go to stay in the room so thought the room were good considering we only needed them to shower and sleep.There is a shortage of beach chairs but like anything early bird gets the worm. The beach was clean everyday and enjoyed relaxing cause security kept the locals from selling their wares on the beach. Like most reveiws the entertainment is not that great found that after 10 pm it was pretty quite. The entertaiment that was provided was ok but could definitely improve it for later in the night. The bar service was great only problem was they need a drink list for adults not just the children. Only for some other guests we probably would not have know what different types of drinks to have other than regular rum/liquor/beer drinks and of course drink of the day. The location is great within walking distance to all the shopping in the area but it can be challenging out among the locals. Every step you make someone is trying to sell you something or asking for money but if you say no thanks and keep walking they will leave. Highly recommend hiring a cabbie for the day and drive into the mountains and see the locals. hired leroy aka Eggie just outside the hotel gate and he was an excellant tour guide, would definitely use his services again when we return. Did several tours Mystic mountain, Bob Marley (definite must just for the ride into the mountains - through chukka tours) Dunns river falls(must) and luminious lagoon. Took hotel shuttle to and from margerittaville for a night out thought that was a great service provided by the hotel, enjoyable night. Never had any issues trying to get towels or service at the front desk. Would definitely return to this hotel again and would recommend it to others. I read alot of reviews before booking this hotel and some are very overrated but then again I too work in a service industry and I know you can't please everyone not matter how good things are. I wasnt looking for a 5 star hotel from a 4 star the most important thing for me was cleaniness and that was good and the maid we had for the week was great. always left her a $5 tip was worth it.
