A Little Piece of Heaven on Earth!!

Sunset at the Palms Resort far exceeded my expectations! I will definitely stay here again upon my return. From the time I stepped on the resort until I departed, I felt like I was at home. The hospitality was superb! I highly recommend this resort!

We vacation with another couple and have high standards for our final choice of vacation spots. We were so thrilled with the laid back, quiet, simplicity of Sunset at the Palms. Because there weren't 500 people staying at this resort we received excellent personalized service. The staff was went out of their way to accommodate our needs, but did not hover, allowing us our privacy. The facility is small and gave us the feeling of being in the rain forest with our individual cabins. Highlights include Paul, "the piano man" in the martini bar sharing his talents. Alvin, a personable hard-working young man we enjoyed talking with everyday. Finally, the beautiful white sanded beach and turquoise water with not a wave in sight. This resort isn't for the "party all nighters, but for the adults looking for a relaxing, quiet vacation.

It was decent but I would not stay here again. My girlfriend was eaten up by bedbugs and had to go to the Dr to diagnose and get something for the itching. The choices of food were not the greatest and was not available all day. Been to much better places. Was disappointed.

Not Impressed with Apple Vacations.
Jan 15 2017
Apple website was misleading, hotel is not on the beach and the beach that it has access to is not "7 mile beach". Bathroom had NO bathroom door, had to change rooms. Room had view of a concrete slab construction site. AC in the room did not work properly, room fridge was not restocked by staff. The restaurants were rarely available for us to use, and we had to eat at the buffet (which was average). Food at the beach bar was disgusting. Had problems with the water sports office, charged us for a sailboat lesson that we didn't take and wouldn't refund the charge.

We really did enjoy the facilities. Thought there could have been a few more bells and whistles for the 5 golden apples. However the Apple staff at the airport was extremenely unorganized and uniformed. They really had no idea what was going on.

Me and my wife's vacation to Sunset at the Palms for our birthdays was our second trip there. It was everything we expected, exceptional vacation. The staff was so friendly, the food was dliscious, and the beach was clean. The only complaint we have, which we should have expected do to the dense garden surrounding the rooms, were the amount of lizards and bugs in our room each day/night. This often caused us to lose much sleep hearing them scattering around and often waking to get a few bugs out of the room. Also, we will try not to fly Delta again, the trip home was on time, but on the way down the pilots were 45 minutes late on our first flight causing us to miss our connection out of Atlanta by fifteen minutes and forcing us to wait an additional 5 1/2 hours to catch the next connecting flight. Overall it was a great trip, this being our second time to SATP.

A Wonderfully Unique Hotel
Dec 25 2013
We have traveled to many countries and hotels around the world but, never have experienced anything like Sunset at the Palms. The bungalows are nestled in the gardens of the property, making it feel like you are staying in the jungle. You are always surrounded by trees, palms, flowers, and tranquility. Falliing asleep and waking up to nature was truly amazing. The rooms are clean, fashionably updated, making you feel like you are staying in luxury. The property is always well manicured and the hotel itself is well taken care of. I highly recommend Sunset at the Palms.

The resort was beautiful. The only issue we had was on the beach the close contact with the locals who were constantly allowed to hound you to buy products. It gets frustrating quickly.

Another Wonderful Vacation
Dunstable, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

The Montego Bay Airport was extremely busy and being met by a Mobay Club agent and whisked through customs is a wonderful benefit provided by the hotel. Again, Loletta at the Palms, arranged for us to be picked up by Harry Harvey for the drive to the hotel and it is always like meeting an old friend. Check in was fast and easy and we were met with big hugs from O’Neil with a fruit punch drink who then showed to our room, our own little oasis in the middle of what really is like a rain forest. Love the king bed and the wonderful balcony amid the foliage. So different than any other hotel we have ever stayed in. The food, as before, was delicious. We had a wonderful dinner as return guests with the Manager of the Hotel, Sharon, and reconnected with guests we had met in past years. The evenings spent with Paul at the piano are great fun. We love hearing Paul play alone but it is also fun to hear him sing along with the guests. The beach is lovely and it was nice to see additional palapas to sit under for shade. The water in front of the hotel is such a treat to swim in or to just while away time floating in the blue sea. Unfortunately, a few of the guests at the hotel disappointed us in their dis-respect of other guests. Baseball caps at dinner worn by over 50 year old men just don’t cut it. However, the worst was the couple who not only had no shoes on for lunch in main dining area but had the same attire at the Saturday Night Seafood Buffet. No shoes! I am sure it is difficult to enforce the dress code but no shoes is really going too far. However, for us, the resort is perfect. We love the rooms, the beautiful grounds, the food, the service, the ability to eat all your meals outdoors without air conditioning, walking the beach, swimming, even the tree frogs. We will be back!

Getaway in Negril

Spent 3 nights at Sunset at the Palms in Negril. A quiet, small, tranquil all inclusive locally owned hotel. Rooms are 2 cabins each on stilts with porch, all in a lush garden setting. By far the best quality food I have had, thanks to Exec chef Conrad and chef Tiny. They really made a vegetarian foodie very happy. Let me say from the greeting upon arrival to receptionists all the way through to manager, even the grounds keepers, were all polite and very friendly, just super friendly. The night life was just right for the occasion, enough. Private beach literally across the street where a crossing gaurd is stationed to ensure safety. Beach has a large bar and a grill for lunch all included. The gym was good enough for my work outs and was not far from my room. You can find hammocks on property which was just fitting with the birds around. I have to thank the following folks that made this hotel visit the most loved thus far: Bartender Kirk Receptionists Lisa, Sherice, Daniella Chef Conrad Oneil (Copper) who greeted us with cold wash cloth and drink Lynette security beach Chef Tiny hooking us up with ital stew Blue coffee cafe Ms. Claudette and Brooksan Damion at gate Sharon Powell manager. I am sure missing some names but will catch them on my next visit, as I plan to make this my couples only place away from home. Mature guests seem to love it here. Met a few repeat offenders, 7 years. You won't find spring breakers here.

Our stay here was amazing. We picked Sunset at the Palms for its location, its size, and we were not disappointed. We wanted quiet, private, and relaxing and SATP delivered. The resort bungalows are delightful, you can open up the room for island breeze or run the air and fan and it was perfect. The food was all delicious, we enjoyed the variety at the buffet, the fine dining at the Lotus Leaf, and the Chef’s Showcase were all sumptuous. We stayed in March, and even though the resort was full, it certainly didn’t feel at all busy. We never had to wait more than 2 or three people ahead of us at any of the restaurants or at the bars. The Beach being across the road was actually a nice feature in our minds. It added to the exclusive feel to the place, not like we were in the middle of a long line of mega-resorts that were on either side of the location. The crossing guard to the beach was friendly every time, and it was no inconvenience at all to make the short walk from the resort to the beach. Unlike the other resorts, we never had to feel like we had to get up early and drop towels to hold a spot. Any time of the day we went we were able to have the lifeguards put down beach chairs where we wanted. The bar and short order grill at the beach were awesome. Tyrek was a great chef there at the grill, and Kirk was a great bartender. We brought our own insulated mugs, and they were happy to keep them filled with whatever we asked for. The pool bar was also a great time. We enjoyed the music and entertainment, having a small crowd made it feel so much more personal. Carson was great at tending the Bar, and no one ever seemed to have to wait for drinks. Our spa massage was wonderful, Novlett and Ivaline did our couples massage and it was incredible. Overall, we were looking for small, quiet, private, romantic and this place really delivered. If you’re looking for mega resorts with huge selections, constant on the go activities, this isn’t your place. But if you’re really looking for island paradise, with a friendly feel, and total relaxation, this is your best deal on the island.

Nice relaxing Stay at SATP
mlspina, Tampa, FL
Tue Mar 19 17:34:52 EDT 2019
We traveled to SATP in February to celebrate our 18th anniversary. I will try to not repeat other comments below unless they seem off and Ill try to add things I didnt seem to read/know about in other reviews about SATP and arriving/traveling there in general. -Arrival- club mobay. This was a nice included feature with the resort and they were very pleasant and helpful, with a nice lounge and they helped us find our rental car. BUT, we arrived on American at around 1630 and the arrival hall was EMPTY. So, I would have been a little upset if I had paid extra for this service as the MoBay "Special" line was almost longer than regular immigration line! and everyone had to wait the same amount of time for bags! That being said I can see if lots of planes are in at the same time it would be helpful. Likewise, we arrived at the airport around 1300 and the lines weren't that long for security (Long for AA check in but MoBay departures doesn't help you there). -We decided to rent a car after pricing out shuttles and private cars; we decided the option of having our own ability to go places and leave when WE wanted was worth a little extra (but note, some places may MAKE you pay for liability insurance) so the costs can add up). gas wasnt too expensive. BUT.... they drive on the left and cars are right hand drive. They are automatic at least but t takes some getting used to if you have never done it before. AND, there are basically no street lights and driving after dusk is.......interesting. Luckily we arrived at SATP not long after dark my wife was about to panic. I think many of the complaints about the distance to SATP from airport could be from those on shuttles, with stops, etc. we were there in a little over an hour. When leaving, we saw many people waiting for their shuttle who had similar flight times getting picked up MANY hours in advance while we went tot he beach knowing we could depart on our terms. -On the drive check out Waterfront Jerk Center in Lucea. Its maybe half way. Good jerk and beer and rest stop and they take credit cards. SATP -After reading reviews I requested a room with glass windows and away from the road. When we arrived we were given a room by the tennis courts. Glass windows but....next to the road. We asked if anything else was available and were told no but to check back the next day. -Bellhop took us on tour of property while bringing bags to room. The 100 series room we were in was nice, the bathroom design had a bit more separated WC area. No amoire but big TV with good signal. Close to restaurant lobby and pool. The Noise at night wasnt too bad as the road isn't busy at night. During day maybe but....youre at beach??? I thought room was nice, tidy, and cozy. -Next day asked for other room. Told check back and the bellhop will move our things, but not told when or what room. So we decided to move but in hindsight. probably would not have. We ended up in a 700 room away from road BUT......next to the small airstrip that I did not see mentioned ANYWHERE on TA. and at 0630 the sound of a prop plane taking off was worse than any car noise on road. It was not every morning, but it probably wasnt worth the time to wait for changing and being further away from things. Also oddly, first night we had no recognition but in the 700 level room they hung a nice Happy Anniversary banner. Nice, but odd it was second night in new room? The 700 room seemed a little smaller than then 100 but definitely nicer view of gardens and mountains. Lattice door but you can't see into the bathroom from the bed. Smaller TV, signal seemed weaker, but had an amoire. Phone in room and WiFi were spotty. -Beach was AWESOME. not sure about guy below who complained about the walk over. The access path is not "strewn with junk" its a shell and dirt path through trees. A little walk but as others have said, some resorts are so big its about the same. Super friendly beach staff, we only got the red service flags during the week (?) and bar could get a little backed up, but Kirk (shout out!) and the staff do their best. Its AI so just get two anyway! Also, Bring big "yeti" insulated cups and they'll fill them with red Stripe so you'll be set! Food at beach was good, though we did walk back to resort one day (grill did get backed up a little around noon ish). They have some basic floats for use, the water is pretty shallow we walked out about 30 yards before it even got to our chest. was calm the whole time. Hobie cats and water sports are a nice addition. Also shout out to Nikoy who helped at beach and the pool. -Conrad in the martini bar was great, ask for a coffee martini. Addictive!! -Food was decent, maybe not 5 star fine cuisine sandals level but I thought it was good all around. we did not do the chefs table but did A la carte once, it was ok but menu didnt seem to change. We missed the Beach BBQ bonfire (Wednesdays) bummer! sounded fun. actually the italian night (Tues I think) sounded most blasé when we saw the lineup so we ate a la carte that night, but when walking through everything looked, and tasted! good!!! We met people who were staying for like 2 weeks there and I think maybe the menu would get repetitive for that long, but for a long weekend or week I think it was very good. -We did not do one of the snorkel or glass bottom tours as we heard mixed things about the reefs they go to, but walking on the beach was nice and just relaxing. The vendors are pretty laid back and security does a good job keeping them moving, you basically have to go to the water line as they walk by to buy stuff. The vendors down the beach in their huts were actually friendly and not as pushy as I worried about. a simple "hello, just walking" was good enough. We didn't try office of nature but looked fun, maybe next time. Went to Ricks. drank one $12 red strip, watched people jump off cliff, and left. thats about what its worth, I think. the sunsets from beach were just as nice at SATP w free Red Stripe :) overall, we had a GREAT, relaxing vacation that we enjoyed. I think we got a great value and would return, although after seeing more of Negril, I can see where you could get a small place on beach thats not AI and just hit jerk shacks and buy alcohol in store if you had a car. But that was a different experience that what we were looking for this time, and SATP definitely met our wishes!

We stayed at SATP for 5 nights in March. Neither of us had had a vacation in years so we were really looking forward to it. We chose this resort based on the reviews and TripAdvisor ratings. Our stay was just okay. In fairness, we knew going in that the resort was older and the rooms had some quirks so I was proactive in requesting in advance a room away from the road with a closet and armoire. The lack of privacy in the bathrooms wasn't a deal-breaker but was definitely uncomfortable at times. The doors are just lattice and don't lock so we ended up hanging a towel inside over the door to give a little bit of privacy when needed. We made dinner reservations in advance also so we didn't have some of the disappointments others have mentioned here with not being able to eat a la carte during their stay. That said, we ended up cancelling 2/3 reservations because the food just wasn't that great. We ended up eating off-property (and paying for it) and it was worth the extra money to have a better dining experience (we ended up at Ivan's one night - meh - and Push Cart - AWESOME - and had lunch one day at Best in the West - also awesome). Breakfast was really just to hold us over until lunch. The eggs were bland and we ended up eating pancakes and french toast most mornings and the bacon of all things was delicious. The beach bar and grill was great. We loved the food we ate there and the bartenders were attentive. Reggae nachos and burgers were great, fish taco and bbq pork tacos also good. The evening entertainment was rather uninspired. Everyone seemed to really enjoy Paul in the piano bar and the reviews rave about him but we both felt like one night of Paul was enough and would have liked to see more variety. The bands at the pool bar weren't much better. Given we had gone off-property several times, we knew there was far better musical entertainment to be found. Some of the beach musicians were better than what the resort paid for in our opinion. We didn't mind the walk to the beach and the beach is BEAUTIFUL. We always were able to sit under a palapa and there are plenty of chairs and tables. We walked the length of the beach past other resorts and SATP has by far the nicest, least crowded area. We did hear that Sandals purchased the property next door so not sure how long that peace and quiet will last but it was our favorite part of our stay (and the reason we went so we ended up have a nice vacation overall). The crossing guards were always helpful and pleasant. The unisex bathroom at the beach was awkward. As a woman, walking into a public bathroom with three men just felt weird. I got over it but still....weird. I had a massage and must give a shout out to Ivaline for her amazingly gifted hands. One of the best massages I've ever had (and I get them once a month). She was a highlight of my trip for sure. The other staff was friendly and attentive for the most part. We had an A/C issue and it was promptly fixed. The bartenders were great especially Conroy and Carson. And the chefs at the beach grill were very accommodating. Great people does make a difference. Last thing I'd add - if you are prone to insect bites, you might want to reconsider staying here. The grounds are so lush and there is standing water in certain areas (the lily garden comes to mind) that it's a breeding ground for mosquitos despite the daily fogging of the property. Reviews I read in advance indicated the bugs were well-managed despite the jungle-like grounds so we took a chance. Unfortunately, I was eaten alive despite bringing Deep Woods Off and spraying religiously. Night, day, didn't matter. They got me walking to breakfast and sound asleep in our room. By the 3rd day, I was covered and couldn't sleep making for not a great end to the trip. They either need to step up the fogging or really be mindful of treating the water features on the property. Overall, we'd return to Negril but would probably not choose a second stay unless we got such a great deal we could go in knowing we'd eat dinner off property every night and pay for it out of pocket. They do provide a return guest code at the end of your stay with a discount so maybe that makes it worthwhile and explains why so many people return time and again. Even then, I'd be concerned about the mosquitos. For us, we're just not sure SATP is a return-worthy resort.
