Awesome staff, awesome vacation!

From the moment you arrive Juan Carlos and Antonio greet you with smiles and are so helpful in making your stay pleasant and comfortable. If you want to explore the island, just ask these guys! The staff communicate well and get you ready for your room quickly. All of the activities personnel are friendly and even if you don't like participating, like me, you will want to. We will definitely be coming back!!!

Clean rooms, nice beach, friendly staff but food (at Portfofino) could be improved

It's a nice resort and has seen some recent renovations to update the amenities. I continue to be a repeat customer but am disappointed with the food, specifically at Portofino. In past years, Sunscape guests could go to the Marketplace Café on the Secrets side and Marketplace was where I went for buffet meals; however, this year brought an end to that. Unfortunately, the food at Portofino is not great but what really bothers me are the birds. The open air layout invites birds to perch on the buffet bar and pick at the food--risking contamination and disease. A solution must be found for this! Portofino is the only option for breakfast but I otherwise used the other restaurants for meals to avoid the unsanitary environment.

Very average resort

We stayed here for 4 nights. The resort has very cluttered layout. The rooms are newish but have no spare power points. We asked for a micro wave in the room which was delivered to our room and left on a chair unconnected as there was no plug power point. I had to remove one of the bed lamps and keep the micro wave on my bedside which was both ridiculous and unsafe. We had to use the only power point in the bath room for charging our phones and watches by turns. The bath room had half glass cover to the shower without a door. Consequently when we took bath, the water would be all over the bathroom. We had to use the bath towels as floor mats to keep our legs dry. Breakfast was served in only one restaurant which was in the open air. This place is infested with birds. You cannot keep food on the table and take a step away from it without the birds attacking your food. The worst thing was the birds were pecking direct from the buffet trays and no body was doing anything to stop the birds. This was really disgusting. If you sit under a tree, you can easily get bombed by bird poop. The buffet trays were empty most of the time and we had to request multiple times to have them refilled. The beach is very rocky and full of weeds. We spent some time in the water and came back with multiple scratches on the legs from the rocks. The evening entertainments were pathetic. I wouldn't go to this resort for half the price.

Clean, good service/staff, OK food and drinks, nice pool.

I like to start with the positive: the resort is clean and the housekeeping and bus-boys, 9especially Antonio) are very good: friendly courteous service with a smile and room was very clean and comfortable. AC control was missing, room was cold but it was quickly taken care of, my housekeeper was Marciella, she did a fantastic job! One bartender, Mario, makes good drinks ( I can't say the same for the others),other times the drinks were either too sweet or watered down. Food just OK, beach is very rocky but clean. I won't let bad service from one person overshadow the excellent service of other staff. This was the first time I stayed at an all inclusive and was not greeted with a drink or offered on at check in. The check in person was Karina Vasquez, she wasn't very friendly and didn't smile, I mentioned this was the first time I was not greeted or offer a drink and she gave me a nasty look like "really, get over yourself" and pointed to a bar across the lobby.I also mentioned to her that when I made my reservation I noted my son is vegetarian and ask about vegetarian options for dining. She never responded to me (maybe she was having a bad day, NOT!!). Mexico is a country full of flavor chili spices vegetation fruits etc but this was not reflected in the food at this resort. The only exotic or tropical fruits offered was papaya and pineapples. Eat at the Mexican restaurant (open for dinner) the food is better than the other 2 places The main restaurant Portofino was closed for dinner 3 out of the 5 day we were there and the food was just OK. At Portofino (buffet) the food was a bit salty. Nachos at the other place is OK. This is why I questioned the value I had to taxi in to town to get a decent meal 3 of 5 days, go to the market to get tropical fruits and when I was asked about my stay at check out (it so happened the person was who checked me in) I was cut off. She was not interested in an honest feedback and simply cut me off and said "we have other ways to get compliments." Feedback is always needed for improvement but I highly doubt it will make a difference seeing when I asked for a supervisor, she was the supervisor. I would have rather pay more for better food and drink options. If these things improve it would be a better value for the $$. This was a birthday trip for my son, I vacation often so there is enough to compare value of what I pay.

Nice Non Diver Resort

We visited Sunscape Sabor Cozumel for my son’s spring break. It’s about a 25 min ride from the airport south of Chakanaab but north of Playa Mia (fondly known as the cow udder). It was a first visit ever to this resort. It was nice overall, but I will probably not go back since it’s really not set up for divers especially if you dive with an outfit that’s not on site. First impressions were bad. We checked in, but could not get our room till 3pm. We did go get lunch and drinks and hung out for 90 min. There was a big push by the front desk staff for the 4 of us to view a time share presentation. We made it very clear that we weren’t interested, even if they “upgraded” our rooms. The grounds are very nice, but the building that we were in, San Francisco, had us walk by the sewage treatment area (I think) and the smell was terrible. Rooms were comfortable with king size beds. They supplied very nice shampoo, shower gel and conditioner. It was so nice, I took some home. We had a nice view from our veranda and there was plenty of room to hang our dive gear. Rooms had small refrigerators that were stocked daily with soda, water, beer and juice. The water onsite is not potable, so don’t drink from the tap! There are 2 pools on site. The one near us is quieter, as the one near the restaurants have daily activities. There is a dive shop on site, Dive House. But there are no lockers to store your items, and the dock where you get picked up in the morning is actually at Secrets which is next door. Secrets charges 2$ per person per day to use their dock if you don’t dive with Dive House. It’s a bit of a walk from our building to Secret’s dock, so be ready to huff your gear every day! The 3 restaurants on site were good. Reservations are required at El Patio but worth it! We mostly ate at Sunny side Grill, and Portofino. Both were good. The pizza place ran out of pizza when we were there, so we didn’t eat at that restaurant. Bars were located by the activities pool and Sunny Side Grill as well as on the beach. Service was pretty good. The beach at the resort was rather rocky, not really suited well for bare feet. The all inclusive did not include the use of snorkel gear, hobie cats, or kayaks. All were available for a fee. Overall, if having choices in dining and just hanging out at the pool or beach is your style, then the Sunscape Sabor is nice. I personally won’t be back as it really does not suit my needs as an everyday diver while I’m in Cozumel.
