Just returned from our family vacation at the Dorado Pacifico and we were very happy. There were 6 of us of three generations. Our kids are 10 & 12 and their grandparents are in their early 70's. Everyone was happy with the hotel and the food.
What we found great was the ability to interact with the Mexican people who frequent this resort. Our kids played in the pool and on the beach with kids from Canada, US, and Mexico which was great to see.
The location of the Dorado is about in the middle of the long beach stretch in Ixtapa which made it perfect to walk to various places. Within a couple of blocks walking was the Dolphin Experience place, the market, and a bank to get pesos.
We were particularly impressed with the selection of salads with fresh greens and veggies. From other all inclusive's I've been to the food at the Dorado was above average.
We did find our rooms a tad on the small side as we only were able to get a room with a king bed and had to add a cot in each room to accommodate three of us in each room. They do have larger rooms but they were all booked by the time we committed to this vacation.
The beach is spectacular for walking and playing in the sand and messing about in the shallow surf BUT IT IS NOT a great swimming beach unless you are a strong swimmer. There are consistently 5 to 6 foot waves that curl into the beach about 50 to 75 m out. If you are a good swimmer and know how to dive under waves and swim with some current then you will be fine during the standard times. My son is 12 and loved it. He discovered the joy of playing in the waves and how much you need to respect the ocean and its power.
The staff were very helpful and super friendly. A great place for our family and as it was our first visit to Ixtapa it made us realize that we would love to come back. Thanks Dorado for help making it a great family vacation for all of us.
Top notch service!

Thank you to Raymundo for delivering special beverages at our request! I enjoyed this hotel because it was easy to get around. The food was amazing in it's selection and choices, as well as the quality and presentation. I appreciated all the options. It was a wonderful family trip!

One of the things I like of this hotel is the location, is located on the hotel zone, across from little shops, restaurants and next door to a really really nice bike path that takes you to enjoy the amazing views. The hotel offers a great value, they have amazing entertainment at night with professional dances. The food is also very good, the rooms are very clean.
The only thing i was not very happy is that they served buffet for breakfast every single day, same restaurant and exact same menu. you kind of get tired of the same thing every day.
Excellent property needs a few minor changes

Stayed at this hotel from Oct 31 to Nov 7, 2014. The property is well maintained and other than one elevator breakdown (short) and a power failure that affected more than one hotel, we had no issues at all with the property. It is nice and compact so everything is only a short walk away. The only thing that lowers the rating slightly is the food selection and lack of 24 hour facilities. At this time of year the guest are about 80% Mexican tourists, conventions and kids soccer teams so I guess the hotel is serving it's clientele. The food choices may change as prime time for charters approaches.
I would rate the hotel as follows...
Beach 4/5 - Like most Mexican west coast beaches the waves were large and not suitable for small children. The beach and water were very clean with soft sand.
Rooms 4/5 - Nice walk in showers and always clean. Satellite TV has only 2 channels in English (CNN and Fox news). Other channels were hit and miss whether or not they were in English with sub-titles, or dubbed. Ocean views from most rooms.
Staff 5/5 - Some really great people here. Along with the staff there were people in Orange shirt who appear to be some type of Excursion/VIP sales. There is no sales pressure. Johnny knows everything about everything and is a great resource. Anjar seems to be perpetually happy and always makes your day a little brighter. Antonio at the pool bar has a few minutes for a chat while he brings your Iceberg drink.
Pool 4/5 - Very nice pool but only one stairway into the pool which is usually obstructed by kids. Lots of other ladders though. Great temperature. Cool but not cold. Lots of chairs and umbrellas to go around but if you want a particular spot, the normal reservation methods apply. Pool towels are only available around 7:00 AM (Mexican time) so if you're out earlier, bring your own marker of some type.
Lobby area 3/5 - Nice facility but it is somewhat closed off. Although the front is open, the back is not so there is no airflow. The lobby bar and even more so the computer kiosk area is almost dead air and very hot.
Food - 4/5 The a la carte restaurants are good with smaller portions (appropriate sizes). The buffet is almost exclusively Mexican fare. Not always a bad thing but sometimes you want familiar food and it's not there. The buffet selection is limited compared to other properties. After 10:00 PM there is nothing open for food or coffee and only limited bars. Room service runs 24/7 but again the selection is limited. If you are an early riser, there is nowhere for coffee/tea/espresso until the buffet opens at 7:00 AM. Only one cappuccino/espresso/mocha bar and it's open from 9-5 only.
Location 5/5 - Shopping, restaurants, local markets, souvenirs, banking etc are across the street or within a 2-3 minute walk. Cheap cab ride or bus to most areas you'd want to go.
Accessibility 5/5 - every stairway, step or ledge has a ramp. The only place you could not roll a wheelchair is into the pool. All rooms are accessible from the elevators with no stairs.
For those who care, the hotel is mostly smoke free. Rooms (including balconies), lobby area and all restaurants are smoke free. Smoking is allowed in areas at the pool and beach, and there is a smoking area just outside the lobby entrance. No policy yet on e-cigs that I could find.
All in all we had a great time here and I would return. I hope they address the food selection as they attempt to bring in Signature vacations to the property as well as others. It's the only thing keeping this hotel from 5 stars. If you want a true Mexican vacation the surrounding area has not been Americanized as much as other destinations and it is worth the trip.
What a wonderful surprise!

I just got home from a 5 day girls trip and I can't say enough great things about this resort. Rooms were very clean, food was what I would expect and the beach was one of the nicest I've been on - so clean with lovely white sand. The people at this resort that made this holiday so fantastic. Workers are polite and courteous! So many of these people at the resort are repeat clients who are there to relax and have fun. Being a smaller resort, by day 2 everyone knew each other and it was like we were all one great big happy family! I can't wait to go back for the next girls trip or just to take my husband for a quiet get away.
Thank you Antonio for the awesome bar/snack service and Felix for late checkout and arranging our ride to airport!
