January 14-28/2016...we were a large group who couldn't ask for more. All the staff were so good at their job, very friendly and always smiling. The hotel was very clean everywhere, staff always working from morning until late at night.Resort activities were available all day long for those who wanted to participate. The beach was beautiful for a nice long walk, waves were high and gorgeous to watch. Playing in the ocean one had to be aware at all times but so much fun. Do go for a massage in one of the huts on the beach ..the best! Area is very safe, nice walking paths and restaurants and shops right across from hotels. This was our second trip to Ixtapa and we will be back. More>

This resort is rated at 4+ stars and we would agree with this rating. We were here for the week of 9-16 Jan. 2016. It rained for a day and a half and the local people told us that it rarely rains in January. We spent a week in the same area two years ago at the same time and it was sunny every day. It is very warm and the ocean water is much warmer than the pool. Speaking of the ocean, we are from Atlantic Canada and live near the ocean so are aware of the dangers. You are told to be extremely cautious because the breakers rolling in can knock you down quite easily. Pay attention to this. Getting in and out of the water is a bit of a challenge. Once you get out past the breakers it is pretty much smooth sailing and very enjoyable. On the beach there are lounge chairs to accommodate approximately 100 guests. They have a wooden frame work over top of them and this does not allow for much shade. It is rarely possible to get a lounge chair on the beach because, of course, they are covered with towels at the break of dawn. We heard that staff will put a towel on a chair for you if you pay them. We don't know if that is a fact because we didn't ask. We prefer not to sit in the sun and you couldn't get out of the sun on the beach. Also, the lounges are very close together. We noted that they were all over to one side of the beach front. Most of the beach frontage was used for volleyball. We really felt the lounges should be spaced out a little more. It was also almost impossible to get a shaded spot around the pool because of them being marked early in the morning. The best place we found to sit was around the children's pool. Very few children used the pool so the chairs were mostly empty all day. Also, this was close to the snack bar and adult pool so very convenient. The resort itself was beautiful. It was very clean and tastefully decorated. Most rooms have an ocean or partial ocean view. We were in room 1618 with a beautiful view of the sunset over the ocean. Guest rooms started on floor 10 and there was no 13th floor, so in actual fact we were on the 6th floor. Below the 10th floor were the mezzanine and lobby levels. There were four glass elevators overlooking the lobby and there was never an issue getting one. Our room was always well stocked with water, pop, and beer. We had a walk-in shower and king size bed, which was very comfortable. There was ample storage for clothes and suitcases. The staff at this resort was excellent. We found the bartenders to be very efficient and rarely had to wait for more than a couple of minutes to get served. This had nothing to do with tipping because we didn't tip for every drink. Public washrooms were always clean and stocked with the necessities. In reviews many people complained about children at the swim up bar. There are many signs posted at the bar saying children are not allowed, and we rarely saw a child there. Three nights during the week the main buffet was closed and a buffet set up in the main garden, where there is a stage and live entertainment going on while you are eating. That was a nice change from the norm. There were three a la carte restaurants - Mexican, Italian, and seafood. We didn't try any of these. We were going to try the Italian for my birthday dinner but on that night the buffet was serving Chinese food and I preferred to try that. It wasn't like home, but then again why would it be? We were in Mexico. Many people travel to other countries and complain about the food. I am certain if those people from the countries you are visiting came to Canada they would have a hard time finding food like they would get at home. That is the great thing about travel. You get to experience new things. In the lobby area there is a 24-hour coffee café where you can get non-alcoholic specialty coffees and snacks. The local area is very safe. You can go walking outside the resort in the evening without a worry. One day we took the local bus into Zihuatanejo. There we visited the large market and walked the waterfront and had a beer at one of the many bars. You can walk about 10 minutes down the beach (turn right while facing the ocean) and there are several huts where you can get a one hour massage for 200 pesos. Well worth the money. All in all, we had a very enjoyable stay and would recommend it without hesitation. More>

We just returned from a great two week stay at the Sunscape. The first night our room was quite noisy as it was just over the lobby bar. We asked the next day if we could move to a quieter room and we were moved that day to the 21st floor which was great. Thank you Raul! Our Air Canada rep was very helpful and always said hello and asked how we were doing. Thank you Enrique! The food was very good, especially Blue Water Grill and DiMario, which was our favorite. We can't say enough about how excellent the staff was. I'm sorry I can't remember everyone's name but here are a few: Ambrosio and Patricia our beach waiters,Fernando the beach concierge, Aaron the waiter in Rendevous bar,Manuel our room cleaner,Tomas and Jesus at Bluewater Grill,Erick and Carlos at DiMario, and Alejandro at the Tequilla tasting. The location of the resort is perfect as you can just cross the street and there are a lot of shops and restraunts and it is very safe. We went to Ixtapa Island one day and had a wonderful lunch at Princess Rebecca resaurant. Thank you Bennie. We never had any trouble getting a lounge on the beach. We like the fact that you don't have to wear a bracelet or have towel cards or make dinner reservations. All in all a great vacation. More>

Pros and Cons
Mon Feb 01 09:41:37 EST 2016
Pros: - It is safe to go off the resort, we even took the public bus - We were able to find chairs on the beach everyday - Great water pressure in showers - Nice little balconies - Food was good - not always super hot but warm - Clean Beach - Friendly Staff - Very cheap activities on the beach - one hour massages for $10 USD, Parasailing for $25 USD - Free WiFi Cons - Beds were hard - No free activities on beach provided (body boards, snorkel gear, kayaks, etc.) - Not a lot of restaurants available and all but one had a dress code so very inconvenient when you are at the beach/pool area - Snorkeling at Ixtapa Island was okay but cloudy and the guides would not let you near the coral unless you were with a guide...that's were all the fish were... - Shows at night could improve - Not many pool activities during the week - VERY slow to clean the rooms and they took the towels out long before the rooms were serviced - for example - towels were taken out of the room at 9 am but the room was not clean and new towels replenished until about 4 pm Extra Information - Frank's was a great place to grab a pizza if you get a pizza craving - City Bus is 90 pesos to get to Cinco de Mayo (street with all the little shops) and if you are into seeing culture make sure to hit the food market - we just asked were to go and locals were very friendly and helpful - Lots of English speaking natives and frequent Americans/Canadians - Make sure to book your tours through the resorts as a few people got ripped off purchasing from the streets/beaches More>

Had a week January 23-30. Overall excellent. Food is good - breakfast is by far the best. Nice change of meals available. Franks across the street is awesome. Pizza - shrimp - well worth the trip for dinner. Beach is outstanding - and in perfect condition. New AC units being installed that will help with room comfort. Golf is under $80.00 US so that's a deal. No CDN whiskey - but hey we made it lol. 100% hope we can get back in August for another week. More>
