I love this hotel, the staff, the food, the location, everything. It's a hidden gem and I have stayed at many 5 star resorts in Mexico and other countries. I am going back next year and I have never gone to the same place twice! I also like the size as it's smaller so you can get to know other travellers easier then at one of the larger resorts. I also liked it more then Ixtapas Holiday inn. I would recommend to upgrade to the full ocean view for a quieter room., More>

The rooms are no where near as nice as a other resorts we have stayed in...though they are suitable. It is most definitely not a Riu. It felt very quaint. It was relaxing and our daily walks on the 5km beach (up and back) were lovely. I found this Hotel located perfectly to travel to Ilse de Ixtapa. This was the high point of the trip. A beautiful island where the swimming, diving, food and drinks are all excellent. As far as food... the two a la carte restaurants were good...the buffet was not. More>

This resort was nice, a basic four star. Stayed for 2 nights during the first of April 2016. The evening water show was great. The Barefoot Grill was awesome! One night we had dinner at the Italian restaurant, the food was good, but we were there for three hours, something I feel they should work on. I wouldn't hesitate to return. More>

Enjoyed our stay immensely. Will return in a heartbeat.

Date travelled: April 23-30, 2016 It was our first trip to Ixtapa, although the four other people in our groups were making their second visit. We purchased our package through WestJet vacations. Our expectations were immediately surpassed from the time we boarded a very nice, air conditioned coach. We purchased the upgrade to the Sun Club, we had a very short wait to check in. Even the main lineup was short. Here are some key points about the trip ... Location: About 20-25 from the airport in Zihuatanejo. Located right across the street from several restaurants and pharmacies; down the block from a small grocery store and a couple of blocks from some street vendors/market. There is even a Subway restaurant about two blocks away. Hotel: First and foremost, it was very clean. We often sw staff cleaning various areas over and over. The elevator says 22 floors, but it's actually about 10. The upper floors are reserved for Sun Club members (more on that later). Food: Often the biggest complaint about Mexican resorts is the food. We had no major complaints at all during our stay. The buffet is a typical buffet with egg and crepe/pancake stations in the morning, along with pasta stations at lunch and supper. Really, how many different ways can you do a buffet? In terms of al la carte options, the Italian restaurant, Mexican restaurant and Blue Water Grille alternated days being open. All three provided great options to get away from the buffet. The Italian place was particularly great. Best of all, you didn't need to make reservations, so you can make last-minute decisions. There was also a 24-hour coffee bar with a few pastries and sandwiches, depending on the time of day or night. Sometimes it's just enough to provide a snack. Service: The service was outstanding. Only one waitress was a bit off -- maybe she was having a bad day or her English wasn't strong. Nonetheless, every guest service employee, waiter, waitress, concierge, bellhop, bartender, chef, cleaning personnel were very friendly and helpful. Because we were Sun Club members (hang tight a bit more for more on that), we got very close to Ricardo, who worked mainly in the club area for checking in/out and as a concierge service. He was amazing to deal with and a great kid. Marcelo was our usual bartender in this area and he not only provided great service, but was great to talk to. Pool/beach: The pool was great and the staff were always cleaning it with some of the overly sunscreened people leaving a film :). We never used the hot tub, but staff was always making sure it was clean. There were plenty of chairs available. There has been some suggestion that Sun Club members get priority seating, but in fact, it is first-come first served. That is the same for the beach. The beach is actually a government beach, but the Sunscape has dozens and dozens of Adirondack chairs with cushions. And don't worry, the wait staff are there often to refill your drink. The waves are quite strong, so some days the ocean swimming is limited. Activities: We read some comments about the lack of entertainment, but perhaps some people had too high of expectations. Some stage shows were a bit schlocky, but the water show on our last night was spectacular. Aquasize was event great. Again, all the staff were amazing. Beach volleyball, soccer were held everyday, and there were cocktail making classes, wine tasting and even a guacamole making contest. They have daily bike rides which everyone should take advantage of. It's a light ride and you can see other parts of Ixtapa (do the morning one as it may be too hot for the 5 p.m. ride). Sun Club: The biggest advantage of the Sun Club was priority check-in, which may be more important where there are huge groups checking at the same time. Access to a private, air-conditioned lounged with televisions was much appreciated. There were appetizers available there throughout the day. Probably the biggest advantage was the Wifi. If you booked a club room you received a wifi password for two devices that provided access throughout the property. In addition, the club lounge had its own password. Otherwise, you were forced to sit in the lobby to get wifi. It's a holiday, aren't we supposed to be unplugged? Nonetheless, for the marginal cost upgrade, it may be something to consider. For our group of six, it was our regular meeting area and place to have a quiet nightcap. Bottom line: We truly enjoyed our stay. The Sunscape isn't luxurious and doesn't pretend to be. It's clean, the food is good and they do their best to make your stay enjoyable. Also, it's a safe place and it's safe to go across the street to restaurants and shops. Negative: There are a couple of nightclubs across the street that tend to be a bit loud until 4 or 5 a.m. That said, sometimes the crashing waves are even louder. Once you get used to it, you don't even notice it. Tipping: Many of the staff make about 50 pesos a day, so anything you can tip goes a long way to getting even better service and making their day. One final note: Talk to the staff and get to know them. They are all extremely friendly and they enjoy being able to talk about their lives. The friendlier you are to them, the friendlier they are back to you! Excursions: We took our own bus ride, then a water taxi to Ixtapa Island. One of the restaurant staff members was on our bus so he made sure we got to the Island. It was a great swimming area, with great snorkelling on the other side of the Island (about 200 years away). You can book through the excursion companies (especially through WestJet Vacations), but it's totally OK to wing it. Bus drivers and other residents are very friendly and helpful to get you to where you want to go. Lastly, if you want to get away from the resort, catch a bus from the street out in front and go to Zihuatanejo. There is bunch of great restaurants and market a couple of blocks from Cinco De Mayo Street. We are ready to go back again! More>

I always write too much; but I just can't help it. The hotel is wonderful. It has everything you could possibly want. Jesus Garcia is great - he takes care of business. If you have a concern, he will try to solve it immediately. The management staff (Cintia, Neri and Jose Luis) are wonderful. The Entertainment Staff is beyond description. Incredible is the word I would use..Alex stands out because he goes out of his way to please. Ramiro,Himer,Havy,Jesus and Alejandro are fabulous. Every day they join in all the activities to make the days special for you. The bar staff is always friendly, no matter how busy they are. The drinks are always very tasty. The Explorer's Club takes care of your little ones. Ursula,Marie and Carina will have balloon fights in the pool, build sand castles, have camp outs and the kids love them. With all the different restaurants, within the hotel, you can always find something delicious to eat. The wait staff are absolutely unbelievable!!! They are friendly, quick and very professional at their job. The hotel has excellent security. Adan is on the job. The lifeguard (Gabriel) is on the alert whether it's the pool or ocean. The Beach Concierge is Fernando. He really keeps his eye on what's happening. The Sun Club is a great new addition for personal, friendly service. It's a nice get-away for relaxing. You can have a drink, watch TV or have a snack. It's a lovely place to go!!! First thing in the morning visit the Coco Cafe. You have the selection of many different coffees, sweet buns and fruit. The big smiles come courtesy of Karina and Dina. We have been enjoying the Sunscape Dorado Pacifico for many years and will definitely continue to do so. In fact, instead of once a year, we now stay twice a year and love every minute of every day. We feel like we are coming home every time that we arrive. More>
