Great experience. Ask for 6th floor upgrade facing south, worth the extra cost for the view

had stayed in this hotel last summer and service seemed a little better than- not horrible but not what it had been. Also the room service carts are extremely noisy at 6 am (knew that time each and every day) The need to address that issue. Also at the spa they hadn't changed the disposable face covers on the massage table - very disturbing to see someone's make up on there when you are to put your face in the same one.

We thought the Sun Palace was a very nice place with excellent food and service. The only small things lacking are the small pools, the lack of daytime and night time entertainment and no buffet at dinner. There are only 4 restaurants and no buffet.

The only problems we had was the paint was chipping off the walls on the balcony so the balcony was always littered with paint chips. The only other problem was the reception of the Apple Rep. No one met us at the airport baggage claim and no one told us to look for an AMSTAR rep versus and Apple Rep. The Apple Rep never showed up at the hotel to help us arrange transportation to the airport on our date of departure. Apple was not impressive this time. Very disappointed.

My wife and I came here for our honeymoon, and were constantly blown away by this hotel, the views were fantastic, the staff was consistantly striving to make our stay even better, and there were only trivial things that were left for us to complain about.

Absolutely loved this resort! Beautiful white sand beach, perfect turquoise water, drinks are excellent! Hotel staff is wonderful and always go above and beyond to satisfy guests! Only about 250 rooms from what we were told, it was quiet and intimate, but we also met some great people and had a ton of fun! The food at this resort was hands down the best all inclusive food I have had to date! Can't wait to go back, hoping to go with family and friends in the future!

a beautiful couples only resort. Very special welcome at the door, exceptionally nice workers who were very accommodating, food and food service excellent. A relaxing stay with no worries. One minor issue with the hot water regulating in the shower. And a little confusion over who was to direct us to activities and such, hotel people got our attention first.

Very clean and beautiful. I had one problem. Air conditioner was not up to par first night. Guy came and changed the filter, said it was dirty, and they gave us another room that evening. Food was excellent. Service is friendly. You have to leave a room key in a holder mounted on the wall in your room, or your a/c and lights don't work. Also, if you leave your balcony door open, it shuts off your ac.

Upon arrival, we were not told to go to the service desk where they provide information on restaurants in other hotels. (upgraded to consierge) Asked consierge about the wok and with times of michael jackson show at beach palace and was not told men had to wear pants and couldnt go in. they need to be made aware of correct information on the excursions. were told we needed towels at wet n wild, we didnt. Ferry times to go to Island Mareja were wrong. were told we would receive chairs at coco bongo and werent. last year they provided popcorn continuously in the lobby bar and this year i had to constantly ask for it. Twice we had to put out beach chairs and umbrellas ourselves. there was no staff to do that. last year we were given romantic dinner as part of upgrade. this year we had to use 300 credits which was not worth it. they forgot to bring us the appetizer, were short on staff, the appetizer and dessert were so small is was a joke. Last year they gave us more towels and decorated our bed with one at night. this year we had to ask for towels. i had 2 massages which were over the pool area and could hear the bass from the music at the pool. even asked the therapist to make music louder in the room.Andfinally when we checked out. they didnt take our bands off and when we got in the van for the airport,we had to get out for them to remove them. It was such a disappointment this year compared to last year. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful but did't give the correct info. they should all go to these excursions to learn about these items so when your guests come to your hotel and cancun, they will be correctly advised.

Great Holiday!

We booked 11 days at this wonderful hotel on our first trip to Mexico. When we arrived we were given cold drinks and towels to refresh yourself . The checkin staff all spoke English and we were efficiently checked in and bags taken to our fabulous room which had a magnificent view of the ocean. After a quick freshen up we changed and went downstairs to look around. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast choice was extensive and we ate outside. No birds or insects to annoy either! If you could each lunch after that breakfast you has a choice of food in the restaurant or a pool snack bar. The pool staff were amazing and offered lots of things to do throughout the day. Hayder, Pedro and Nathalie particularly made our staff very relaxed and were very helpful with everything as were all the staff we met. Highlights of the stay? Nathalie kindly let us help her release baby turtles into the sea at night - fantastic experience - many thanks Nathalie. We went parasailing which was an amazing experience. It was a great relaxing holiday and we felt thoroughly spoilt by all the lovely staff. We would love to go back again soon. You all need to go!

Relaxing

Perfect for a 3 night getaway. Booked thru Costco Travel, which took care of flights, hotel transfers, and resort. Hotel is only 15 minutes away from Cancun airport. Beach was beautiful, and the hotel is located on the southern edge of the Hotel Zone. We didn't really feel a need to leave the resort as we just wanted to relax by the ocean. Room was nice, clean, well appointed. The giant jacuzzi in the middle of the room we found hysterical and didn't use it - would take forever to fill up and squeamish by the thought of what's happened in there. And there's no need - pools and beach are steps from you room. Food was actually quite good. Breakfast buffet was spectacular. Room service was fine, nothing special. Loved the Thai lounge, and had a nice dinner at the Italian place. The Mexican place was trying a bit too hard to be fancy, and would've been better sticking to traditional dishes. The beach is quite lovely, but know that the water is a bit rougher than say Florida. Still easily swimmable, but lots of red flags up and down the beach, except right in front of the hotel which was yellow and lifeguarded which was really nice. Activities staff were fun and friendly, always trying to get a beach volleyball group to play. Hotel gym was nice and has beautiful views facing the inland bay and treetops. 3 nights was perfect...one more day and we would've been bored and run out of meal options. I guess there is a bus to the other Palace Resorts which you have access to, but it only runs twice a day and we just couldn't justify leaving on our short trip. Overall, a great experience and good to know it was so easy to get there on a last minute vacation.

Ideal long-weekend getaway
WesVols, Brentwood, Tennessee
Mon Dec 11 07:41:32 EST 2017
My wife and I decided to take a long weekend in Cancun as a December getaway. While we're avid travelers who enjoy exploring our destinations, we wanted this trip to be as logistically simple as possible. We wanted to sit by the pool, order a few drinks and eat our hearts out. We succeeded, thanks to the Sun Palace's intimate, low-key pampering. LODGING We were upgraded from a Superior Ocean-View Room to a Junior Suite. Our fifth-floor room was spacious and included a good view of the ocean, although it faced the water at an angle that gave us a glimpse of the resort next door. Our king bed was firm and comfortable and there was a jacuzzi between the bed and the balcony. Minor issues: The TV remote was missing from our room, although we only watched a couple telanovelas and didn't really need it. We also had to call down for a room service menu, as there was no resort directory in our room. FOOD/DRINK: There is one breakfast/lunch restaurant, a colorfully diverse buffet offering a blend of home comforts and local cuisine. We enjoyed the cochinita pibil, marinated chicken tacos, empanadas and many other Mexican/Mayan delights. But it was also good to have fresh fruit, grilled fish and some more universally consumed options. For dinner, there are four options -- Steak, Thai, Mexican and Italian. We thoroughly enjoyed the Mexican dinner but came away disappointed with the Italian meal, which was bland and not authentic. The lobby bar caters to your every need at all hours of the day, whether you're craving a morning mimosa or want a classy pre-dinner cocktail. I took advantage of a solid tequila list and enjoyed San Matias Extra Anejo tequila, a rich, syrupy treat I haven't found in the States. The poolside bars -- one next to each main pool -- make a complete array of fruity umbrella drinks, served quickly and courteously. Waiters also roam the premises make sure guests' needs are filled. We ordered room service one night (it's 24/7) and were not blown away by the quality of the food, but it did the trick. You can also order breakfast and have it sent to your room in the morning, which was helpful for us since we had a 6:30 a.m. tour and the breakfast buffet didn't open until 7. LOCATION Sun Palace is on the south end of the Cancun hotel zone, three resorts into the strip. This made it convenient to reach from the airport (a 15-minute trip) and also insulated us from the crowds found further north. We really enjoyed its placement. ATMOSPHERE The resort was never so packed that we couldn't enjoy ourselves. The only time we waited for anything was at the Italian restaurant, when weather forced closure of the steak and Thai restaurants and sent everyone inside. We hung out in the lobby bar for 30 minutes until our table was ready -- no big deal. While the staff offered numerous activities throughout the day, the guests seemed mostly low-key and didn't participate in great numbers. That was fine with us. Most people were content to lounge by the pool or ocean and take in the rays -- except for one dude who crashed a drone into someone else's balcony. OVERALL EXPERIENCE: We would come back to Sun Palace. It was our first experience with an all-inclusive resort, and we found it comfortable, indulgent and friendly. DO: -Bring pants if you want to eat at the Italian restaurant (men) -Try some of the local fare at the bar (cactus, cochinita pibil) -Take a look at the pool schedule so you'll know when the activities will take place -Try the San Matias Extra Anejo tequila (if you're into that) at the hotel bar and the Riviera Maya, an off-menu layered fruity drink my wife loved, at the pool -Eat as many meals as possible at El Alamo, whose buffet options at breakfast and lunch are diverse and delicious, and whose dinner is authentically Yucatan DON'T: -Expect the Italian restaurant to taste like you're in Rome (or even Brooklyn) -Overvalue the resort credits. We didn't spend a single dollar of them because so much is already included. Also, recognize that you'll pay a tax on the credit dollars you use -Take the public Chichen Itza tour offered by the resort. Opt for a private tour from Entertainment Plus -- it's expensive but gives you a tailored experience without dealing with a bus full of tourists -Fly a drone into someone else's balcony (I think that guy lost a lot of money and even more dignity)

Transfer from airport was fine. Hotel assigned us to room 233 which had a view of roof. we asked to change to a better view higher up and Manager moved us to 533 after 3 days. The hotel was full. We liked room 533 much better. The Jacuzzi suites are nice but don't have any comfortable place to sit. 2 chairs with a table. If you feel like watching a movie you have to sit in the bed. There is NO sofa or tv area. It would be nice if they added a small sofa or Love seat with an additional tv. The decor at Sun Palace is Old and tired and needs to be updated. The mattresses are newer but still on the hard side. You can ask for a softer pad. Staff is very nice and willing to please always! The resort credits are a waste unless you need a bag, sunglasses, or cigars! You cant buy anything else with it! Don't forget your sunblock or the gift shop charges $27 for a small tube! yes its 27!!! Prices are outrageous in the shops and quality is not the greatest! Went to Moon Palace one day but prices are outrageous there also! The Spa at Sun Palace is definately in need of a remodel!! We went to Moonpalace for our massage. The prices for their romantic dinner is not worth the cost! they give you a tour to Isla Mujeres and one other but nothing great! Tour prices are also way too expensive! You can use resort credit for Spa but again they've increased the prices so high its not worth it!!! All in all we had a good vacation at Sun Palace and we liked the all adult facility. The Staff is always pleasant and eager to please you. We would come again for the all adult but will use the other Palaces for spa services.

Great leadership leads to happy employees and happy guests

I've been going to Cancun for more than 30 years and stayed at many hotels and resorts, some all inclusive, some not. My husband and I enjoy the smaller hotels which for us always seem more personable and this is where the Sun Place excels. The staff genuinely seem to care about your comfort and your experience at the hotel and are constantly asking you if there is more they can do for you. We ordered room service and when it was brought to the room, the staff member wanted to ensure we had received everything we had requested and asked if there was anything else he could get us. We didn't but, he would have gotten it for us if we did. One day, the mini bar had not been refreshed by the time we returned back to the room and although I called the wrong number, the front desk was happy to help out, redirected the call and an attendant was the room within minutes asking if we wanted more of one item or another. The care taken by the employees at the morning buffet to ensure the everything still looked appetizing and beautiful, even hours into breakfast was appreciated. They were proud of how it looked. Happy employees, happy guests, I believe is a result of great leadership. The General Manager of the property was visible mingling with his staff and his guests, having a conversation here and there. His staff appear respectful of him but most important, seemed happy to see him, which says a lot. As others have said, the room is beautiful, the restaurants are great, the beach is excellent here but most of all this place has a great atmosphere because of the way it is managed. My husband and I loved it and will be back.
