Not your typical Marriott
DENISE S.
Aug 09 2017
Although the staff was quite nice and helpful and the hotel is adequate, you will not find the typical Marriott quality at this hotel. We had lots of plumbing and water issues. The staff tried to assist as they were able, but there were in going issues throughout our stay.

problem with check out

I was supposed to get $200.00 resort credit, I had it on my documents. I was advised that I didn't qualify as my package was based on 4 nights with 3 free nights. When I asked about it at check-in they said it would be deducted at my bill when I checked out. My wife, a travel agent booked this trip. She will not tell her clients about resort credit, as it is not honored.

Arrival at St Kitts Airport

We were advised that transportation would be provided by Apple Vacations from airport to Marriot Hotel...we were advised more than once. There was no one from Apple Tours at the airport. Took cab and paid $16.00, after waiting 40 min.for Rep from Apple. Island Tours apparently represents Apple..there was no sign letting us know that. After we registered at the Hotel we booked a trip to Nevis, the Rep for Island Tours gave us a $16.00 credit for the cab fare. Very poor communication regarding pick up at airport. You cannot correct a problem if you do not know it exists. That is the reason for my complaint.

Hotel is "tired" for a Marriott. Rating should be a 4 apple at best.

Everyone at the hotel was so friendly and helpful. We had the all inclusive plan added on and every employee was well-informed of what that entailed and explained to us what was covered and what wasn't so we wouldn't have any surprise charges. The hotel the perfect place to spend our honeymoon, right on the beach, lots of food and drinks and lots to do.

The staff at the resort, while moving at their own pace, were very friendly and wanting to please. It is not a resort for people who want instant service. Various aspects of the resort buildings showed, overall, poor maintenance. The pool was not a good one for swimmers. The beach might have been all right but seaweed was coming in at such a rate the staff could not keep it clean. There was very little entertainment in the evenings other than the casino. We have been on many other Apple tours which provided better resorts for less money.

big oceanfront condo, great location

We spent a week here Dec 30,2017-Jan 7, 2018, and were fortunate to rent a big two bedroom condo with an ocean view for a reasonable price. We aren't Vacation Club owners but were able to rent a condo which we highly recommend. The hotel is on the Atlantic side of the island, but they've built a rock barrier so the beach is more sheltered than other parts of this coast. Three pools, all very nice, none heated, and multiple restaurants including seafood, steak, pizza and a grill. The staff were all friendly and helpful especially Otencia Francis, one of the welcoming staff with Marriott Vacation Club. The condo was great- full kitchen with granite countertops, living room, two big bedrooms each with its own bathroom, fresh beach towels in your bathroom every day, and a lovely balcony where we had coffee in the mornings overlooking the ocean. There's a Rams Express grocery store across the street which carries many things, so you can stock up there and walk back to the hotel. Many restaurants are within a 15-20 walk including Timothy Beach's several restaurants and Rock Lobster.

We have stayed here a few times over the years. We are very impressed with how the design of this hotel remains very impressive, and it is in excellent condition. It is a large resort with buildings throughout the property. The main hotel has lots of large open air spaces, which are well appointed. The spa is very nice and offers a good variety of treatments. Check the nice variety of daily activities. There are restaurants and bars on the property. Nothing unique about them. It is also within walking distance of a variety of restaurants. Marriott does a nice job with this property.

Very grand location

I stayed here for 1 week for my mothers wedding at this hotel. The hotel itself was vey nice and everything you would expect. Rooms were highly decorated and housekeeping provide a very good service. There are some amazing views and the grounds itself are well kept. There are daily pool activities (pool aerobics, volleyball etc) to get involved in. Food wise and night entertainment were a bit of a let down with little to no options apart from a couple food outlets that close early and the casino for entertainment. The beach is a bit of a let down also and doesn't compare to some other truly amazing beaches – your best bet is to go on a trip to one of the local natural beaches. You get a feel that this hotel is big for no reason as it's always seems empty with little going on for a hotel of this size and compared to some other hotels of similar status and size. The service and staff are exceptional always happy to help and are available to book you on daily trips and excursions. The wedding itself was a lovely day. However the main dinner was not of wedding quality and the wedding planner was a bit below standard, lacking organisation and communication skills. Certain things surrounding the day itself my mum had to do which you would expect the wedding planner to have under control. There were also a few surprises that the wedding planner forgot to mention throughout the day and unfortunately as she didn't stay for the whole event she was not on hand to help with the smooth running of the event. Overall, it is a lovely hotel but not worth the money as you get the feeling the hotel is a bit of a empty shell/ ghost town with not much going on – unless that is what you are after. The hotel does not accept cash- card only which is fine as we knew beforehand. The staff, reception, porters, housekeeping, groundsmen and Pam who books the trips are amazing and could not be faulted along with some amazing views.

The pool and beach were attractive and very clean. The staff was helpful and friendly. The food in the restaurants, while expensive, was better than average. If you are interested in the casino, the blackjack and roulette tables do not open until 4. Craps does not open until 7.

A bit laid back on a VERY laid back island

We were there in a "shoulder time" during January and the hotel & time-share rooms were not full. The overall facility is solid and the beach is very good, but I think that there are some very hip elements that are not here. That is not a problem for many people, but it may be for families with teens and younger children. There were many kids programs, but not much for adults, except for the casino. St. Kitts is a great, safe, and interesting island. The locals are very friendly and do not resent that tourism is their number one industry. There are hotels on some Caribbean islands that are fantastic, but are in dangerous places. Not so on St. Kitts or Nevis. There is a golf course five minutes away; a mini-mart even closer, and a string of restaurants within a ten minute walk.
