Tucked away on a secluded 100-acre peninsula on the southeastern coast of Antigua, the St. James's Club Resort & Villas exudes a casual, club-like ambiance. This all-inclusive hideaway caters to couples, families, and singles with its plethora of amenities and activities. The family-friendly resort has a long-standing reputation for exceptional, caring service. Here, guests can retreat from the world or enjoy a wide array of island- and water-based diversions.

St. James's guests have several choices when it's time to refuel. The Docksider is known as much for its panoramic water views and charming nautical dcor as its Caribbean-inspired dishes. Thursday evenings feature steel-pan performers who turn up the heat with Caribbean Calypso music. Those who wish to dine in a more tranquil setting may do so at the resort's signature fine-dining restaurant, Piccolo Mondo. For casual dining, the informal Coco Beach Restaurant & Bar offers sea views and a selection of salads, soups, burgers, and pastas.

St. James's Club Resort & Villas has four lounges and bars. The Reef Deck bar beckons adjacent to the main pool. The two beach bars (Mamora Bay Bar and Coco Beach Bar) feature the resort's signature rum punch. A beach cart with soda, beer, rum, and fruit punch also provides refreshments to sun worshippers. The Jacaranda Lounge features nightly entertainment.

Two white-sand beaches offer a host of fun-filled activities. Coco Beach is like an aquarium for snorkelers, while the calm waters of Mamora Bay are ideal for swimming. St. James's Club provides complimentary non-motorized watersports such as kayaking, pedal boating, and catamaran sailing. Tucked into a quiet corner of the The Club area is the Tennis Center, with four hard courts and two artificial turf courts. Four courts are lit for night play.

Guests can also sunbathe, take a dip in six distinctive swimming pools, and succumb to the pleasures of a spa and salon. Spa Tranquility is an expansive and elegantly appointed hideaway for pampering and restorative treatments for the body and skin (fee). The seaside gym has floor-to-ceiling windows looking out at the ocean, providing an inspiring setting for workouts.

Young guests getting restless? The St. James's Club Kidz Club is situated in the heart of the resort overlooking Coco's Beach.

St James club honeymoon
RUSSELL M.

The hotel facilities were average. The staff couldn't have been friendlier. The beaches were clean and quiet. Plenty of palm trees on the beach if we wanted shade. Also the drink cart that came around serving beer, wine, water and soda was an added plus. For the adventurous: there is excellent snorkling about 200 yards off of the beach. We snorkled out three days and saw everything from Barracuda, to Lobster, Hawksbill turtle, octopus, gruper, and all sorts of brillantly colored fish. Antigua is definately a choice spot to vacation. St James club is great!

Phone in room did not work the whole time we were there. The staff should have offered to move us. The room was not cleaned one day because when we got back to the room at five o'clock to get ready for dinner reservations the room was not cleaned yet and we settled for just clean towels. Pools looked cloudy. Not enough service at the beach. We rented a car and left the facility on two days to find nice beaches, which we did. We will definitely go back to Antigua, but would not stay at the St.James' Club or book through Apple.

Saint James Club was a beautiful and fun experience. We used a travel agent for the first time, we usually book our own, and I am glad we did! We had a group of 3 couples and were up graded to premium rooms over looking the Caribbean. This was an all inclusive package and I can say the food, the people, the staff, and the over all experience was a 5. The only sour note of the stay was the trade winds kept us from scuba diving, due to poor vis at the dive sights, but, the best thing about this hotel, was they had a bay on the Atlantic (windy side) and a short walk over the hill to the calm Caribbean Mamora Bay beach, was calm and beautiful Plenty of beach activities, including SUP, sailboats, kayaks, beach volley ball, and many other things to do. Bars and burger stands right on the beaches and if you did not want to move from soaking in the sun, they had a cart come by and deliver drinks. We had one bartender who snubbed us for drinks and let everyone around us order, before we did. We had a large group and we ordered several at a time to carry back to the group,, she decided "you can just wait". Hey, everybody has a bad day. This place offer tour set ups for guests and I suggest you get some island touring in. We did some zip lining, downtown St. John, and an ATV trip. One couple went in English Harbor in the afternoon and said it was an amazing historical place. This is an United Kingdom territory, although, they are a country of their own. So, expect "high tea" and a dress code for the high dining restaurants there. Over all a great place to stay.

Where Is the Hospitality?

After waking up at 6 o’clock this morning, my mother went straight to the beach to reserve four loungers under a stationary umbrella (though there are ample loungers, the umbrellas are spaced further apart and far fewer). The spacing of the umbrellas should have given us more than enough room to move our loungers with the shade as the sun travelled across the sky (so as not to burn, the woes of having pytasty, pale skin). After breakfast, we arrived at the beach only to notice two loungers set up literally right behind ours, under the umbrella my mother had reserved early in the morning. Only one of those two loungers was occupied, and when we politely asked her if she could move her loungers, the obnoxious British woman told us to “shut up” and “be quiet” and continued to lay directly behind us. At this point, the issue became a matter of principle. All of the umbrellas in the beach were reserved by one family/group of people. Why should we, when my mother woke up so early in the morning to reserve ours, have to share it with someone who could not be bothered to do the same and then proceeded to very rudely ignore our requests for her to move? My mother, frustrated, had gone to inquire with the beach staff about what could be done. When a supervisor had finally showed up, half-an-hour later, he was not much better than the woman behind us. The manager, A. Agard, told us that there was nothing he could do and that we just had to be polite to the aforementioned woman and proceeded to converse with her in hushed whispers, then he left. The woman asked us if we had ever heard of “karma” and told us to stop being rude, the went to lay back down directly behind us! How could someone be so horribly rude in the first place and then not even have the decency to move from a reserved umbrella when asked and how could the supervisor be so not understanding and obnoxious to his guests? St. James Club and Villas really needs to work on their hospitality, especially that of A. Agard. (I wanted to post a photograph with her face, by my mother said that we should not stoop to her level, but you can see just how close their loungers are to ours.)

Great price, great time!

We spent five nights at St. James recently and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. The staff are friendly and go overboard to be helpful. We went all-inclusive, which I'd never done before and was pleasantly surprised. It was wonderful not to have to pull out one's wallet for anything. The facilities were all clean and attractive. The food was good though not a huge wow (except the omelettes in Rainbow Garden). We were very satisfied with the food.... and we are not overly creative in drinks but were also satisfied with the offerings. Our view was of the Atlantic side, and it was, as mentioned in other reviews, very windy but that meant we could keep our slider open and the well-sized porch was perfect for enjoying the view and breeze. It was an easy walk to everywhere on the resort and we visited most of the other restaurants and I had a pedicure in the spa. The spa staff were also lovely and engaging and the facility was well-equipped for what I wanted. We played tennis and had a very positive experience with the pro. The water sports are ample enough for our level of sports including paddle boats, small sail boats, windsurfing, peddle boards (think elliptical on water), kayaks. There is a beach bar on the leeward side and we were quite happy with their burger, hot dog, veggie dog and burger, and fish sandwich selection. Not sure what else they had there. Would I recommend this place to others? I already have!

We came back last week from St James, with the mixed reviews was a little nervous it would not be for us. WHAT ARE PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT !!!!. We stayed in the Royal Suites which is the adult only part, with its own concierge, Ralph (who was excellent) took care of things for us. The only minor gripe was the pool waters were v cold, not many people taking a dip. Very spread out, and never felt busy, and all the restaurants we found were of a good standard. Watersports, a good choice, although so calm and limited area where you can go. We are very fussy but loved St James, its a bit out of the way, need cabs to get anywhere, but a good resort, good food, nice staff, and a relaxing holiday.

Every meal had chocolate!

This was our first stay at an all inclusive and it was wonderful. We upgraded to a Royal Suite - which are out on the end of the little spit of land between Mamora Bay and the Atlantic. These quiet units had their own concierge, pool - with waterfall and poolside bar - and were a 2 minute walk to the Rainbow Garden restaurant or the Docksider buffet. Our room was spacious and completely clean - even the outside walkways were mopped daily. St James is not walking distance to anything else on the island. However we used Benji's Taxi service to take us on tours of Antigua. He made a point of asking our preferences for sightseeing and took us to the major tourist attractions as well as through the various towns. Benji was well informed about his island and answered all our questions. Best of all he was a super safe driver. Benji is the one who made our reservation to go out on the first boat of the day at Stingray City. Benji needs to be paid in cash and there is no place on St James' Resort to get cash. There are a couple of vendor stalls on the beach at the resort selling t shirts and keepsakes. There is also a small store in the main lobby open til late at night if you need a snack or expensive beach cover up. I was amazed that the extremely bland post cards were $1 each. The 5 pounds I gained in just the one week attest to how much I enjoyed the food at St James. The menus at the buffet and in Rainbow Garden varied every day so we never bothered to walk the extra 10 minutes the the other restaurants. Rainbow Garden serves a great buffet breakfast that includes a different chocolate pastry every day - they say they are open until 10:30 AM but if you go earlier there is a larger selection of fresh baked pastries. Lunch at the Rainbow Garden had a different roast at the carving station every day (all of them tender and delicious) plus an extensive buffet of hot foods and salads - and a dessert buffet with more chocolate selections. The more formal evening meal in Rainbow Garden is truly delicious - I specifically recommend the filet mignon and the Pavlova dessert. Docksider served a buffet dinner with a huge daily themed selection of foods, a fresh salad bar, carving and grill stations, as well as a kids' selection of "American" quick foods like macaroni and chicken fingers. And a dessert bar with 8 or more different choices every night. More chocolate!!! If you plan to do snorkeling while on Antigua be aware that there are no prescription masks. I was told that there were not any to rent on the whole island. The girl at the activities desk said she had never even heard of prescripion snorkel masks. She thinks that anyone who does no have perfect vision probably wears contact lenses to see the fish. However other guests told me there was not any thrilling snorkeling at the Resort. Also the water sports pavillion was only open limited hours. A tiny ding for the resort was the occasional lack of hot water. And there was no one to check for a problem late at night. The front desk's solution was just to wait awhile. It worked but not having any service technicians for the night shift seemed less that full service. I would happily go back to the Royal Suites at the St James Resort.
