Beautiful Resort, landscaping, pools, & what seems to be a younger more party oriented crowd. Beach? Small & limited. Right next door to Sunset Beach Bar & the Airport. A real plus for fun. Staff friendly. Libations & drinks are decent. Bartenders down right crabby & irritated when crowds are heavy. Food? Do your self a huge favor & head over to Sonesta Great bay Resort by Phillipsburg to eat. Tried multiple times for lunch. Burgers that could not even be called Mystery Meat. Hot dogs that should be renamed "Death Dogs" that were Eskimo Cold. Facilities were positively beautiful & very clean. Lots of Rug Rats, & Curtain Crawlers a.k.a. Children. Also, Parents whom did not mind their kids. Do your homework on this Resort. It does have possibilities & may be enjoyable for your family.

Let me start by saying I would like to give the resort a 2.5 rating, but the options on my phone only allow 2 or 3 so I will be generous since my 8 year old son had a good time. I have done all inclusive packages in the past, but this is my first time staying at an all inclusive resort. The food was average, nothing to write home about, but not bad at all. My wife and I were ok with that. The alcoholic drinks were good. I'm a vodka drinker and most bars on the resort had the name brand vodkas I drink. I reserved a 1 bedroom facing the pool. We really could not see the pool, but the room was an adequate size and close to the elevator. We were pleased with the room size. The reason we were underwhelmed had to do with the service. Alot of the workers did not seem like they wanted to be there. We did find some very helpful staff members, in particular some of the waitresses. What was bothersome was the ability to make dinner reservations at the specialty restaurants. At check in, the reservation process was not explained. You have to come downstairs (better be there at 8:45am) and wait on a line to make a same day reservation. Well of course when I got to the front of the line, the restaurants were booked. I was offered to dine at the hotel's chinese restaurant where a reservation was not needed. I passed. The rep did write down my room number and said he would pass it on the woman who makes the reservations after I explained we were there for a short weekend. I went downstairs the next morning to confirm. After waiting on line, of course there was no reservation, plus the specialty restaurant "pine grill" was closed on Sunday. The rep who I was now dealing with told me the policy changed, so I can now make a reservation for the next evening which we did. We had dinner, it was ok, electricity went out for a short period while we were dining, but it was actually fun eating with the candlelights. We could not call to make reservations, that did not make sense. Waiting on line like we did is a waste of time and resources, plus the resort had an online app which I downloaded. The app was totally useless. Should be more interactive in my opinion. The final reason why I bumping the rating down from a 3 to a 2.5 was the roaches in my room. We killed 3 on the last 2 days of our stay.

Let me start with the pros for this hotel. The location is convenient, a quick taxi ride from the airport and because of the proximity of the airport you do hear departing and incoming planes flying overhead, however the noise is not a distraction. Although the resort is big it has an intimate feel to it and is easy to navigate. The grounds are lovely and well kept, the pool is huge and crystal clear. Our room was on the 7th floor and newly remodeled. The décor is rather vanilla but it was clean and had a comfortable king bed. What holds this property back from being at 4 star is the food. For an all inclusive the food was mediocre at best, unevenness with temperature of the food being served and there wasn't much variety There were some stand outs that deserve mention however; delicious pizza, pasta, particularly the Bolognese, the baked Eggplant and consistently good desserts. The breakfast buffet was probably the best for variety of the day. I am not certain of the reasoning but from Friday to Sunday (we were there for a week) there was more selections of food, i.e. meats and vegetable choices during that time frame. Service was sometimes spotty at the restaurants, I got my tea at breakfast promptly and other times I had to ask several times before getting a cup of tea. I did not find any issue with the elevators or with the staff as previous reviewers had mentioned. All elevators were operational and the staff was friendly. Kudos to Shaquille at the front desk for checking us in quickly, informing of us where the restaurants were and providing a map of the resort. He was friendly and helpful. I think Sonesta Maho has been listening and some of the issues cited by previous reviewers have been addressed I just wish the food was one of them.

Nice family resort

Overall, a nice stay. This is not the Ritz so do not think that. It is a great family hotel. The rooms are apparently remodeled, but are not fancy. They are really large with plenty of room to spread out and the balcony was a nice space, too. Unless you are really uppity, you will probably enjoy this place. All inclusive food was good. Know that you have to make reservations at The Palms Grill DAYS before you want to eat there so if you have a short trip you are probably out of luck. Our family found plenty of food to enjoy at every meal and snacks, too, without any trouble. The beach at the hotel is very small, but the planes do fly over your head. And NO, they don't disturb your sleep at all. Really. I am a very light sleeper and was not disturbed because they stop at 10pm and the big jets don't land early in the day. We could see the planes from our balcony and enjoyed the view, but were not bothered by noise. The people who work here are very nice. They are friendly and willing to answer questions and help with whatever you need. I'm honestly not sure why people wrote bad reviews of this place. There was nothing that would make me not go back. While the hotel is not new and flashy, it is comfortable, clean, and just fine for a vacation when you are going to be lounging by the pool or snorkeling on the beach all day long. I will go back....as soon as I get the chance!!!
