The Point, a sophisticated and upscale grill, overlooks the Caribbean waters and borders beautiful tropical gardens. The buffet at Ocean Terrace always offers a wide selection of continental and international cuisine, and The Palms Grill Restaurant offers gourmet fare in a laid-back setting. Guests enjoy exchange privileges with Sonesta Great Bay Beach & Casino, so you can double your fun with more restaurants and bars to experience!

We just returned from the Sonesta Maho Resort. The resort was a 3 minute ride from the airport which was nice after a long day of traveling. The shuttle used to take us to the hotel was very small. The aisles of the shuttle bus were made for children....very tight Check in was quick and smooth. Our room was ready right away. We dropped our luggage off and went out to explore.
The food at this hotel was amazing! There were so many choices to choose from on most nights. The pizzeria had excellent pizza. You had to wait in line for a while as they only made one pizza at a time. One thing that was disappointing was that they advertised a Beach BBQ. They advertised it on their daily itinerary but in the end there was no beach BBQ to be seen. They really need to review what they print out on their daily itineraries sheets that can be picked up in the lobby. Half of the time we found the information to not be correct. That night the Palms grill was closed so everyone was stuck going to the Ocean Terrace or the Ascot Pub. We enjoyed the cookies that they gave out everyday in the lobby. The chocolate buffet was also good.
The main attraction for us was watching the planes come in and leave. This was a cool extra at this resort. It never got old for us. The beach was nice. It was rough a few days but there were still people out there riding the waves. They looked like they were having fun. There is another beach which is a 10 minute walk from the Maho. It is called Mullet Bay. It is quieter here since you don't have the planes coming and going.
The staff at the hotel were average. Not overly friendly but not rude. There were a few that were pleasant all of the time.
The pool was nice. A little chilly at times.
The bed was very comfortable.
We did not find this hotel loud. Our room faced the sewage plant which was a lot quieter than facing the street with all the nightlife.
Overall we enjoyed this hotel.

We were a group of 10 who were to be at the Sonesta Great Bay for 1 week starting Nov. 20th. Due to the storm damage we chose the Sonesta Maho for our 1 week vacation. Before going I contacted the resort about non alcoholic beer and clear diet pop for my husband. Keisha Williams answered my email and provided the beer and diet pop for my husband, and the others in our party who do not drink alcohol, yes there are people who don't drink. It was our first time in Sint Maarten, and the first trip south for 2 people in our group. The resort has an ideal location close to the airport, no long commute, and in a friendly neighbourhood, which is important to us. The service and friendliness of the staff were great, though at times they were overwhelmed in the food areas with the number of people. A truly enjoyable vacation and we would return.

My friends and I took a girl's trip to St. Maarten and had awesome time at The Sonesta Maho Beach Resort. The resort was great in the center of all the nightlife. The staff was equally fantastic. Shammary Powell, the bartender at the point bar, in particular, made our stay much more enjoyable. He always had a smile, was very professional, and always knew the right drinks to make us. He is also very knowledgable about the island. He is excellent at his job. We will definitely come back again and will also spread the word.

just returned from a 5 night stay, although i did have a good time i feel they can improve in a few areas. i write this review not to bash the property but rather to point out the shortcomings in hope that they will take note.
the thing that annoyed me the most is that food is not available 24 hours, the pub which they claim is their "late-night" food venue, closed its kitchen at 12:30 AM and its doors at 1AM. one night we got there about 12AM only to find very limited availability. another night at about 11PM a member of our party was met with resistance when they asked for a plate to go for a family member who was feeling ill and was unable to leave the room, absurd. pizza service also ended early. bottom line- if you get hungry after 12:30am you will have to wait until the next day.
BTW- $2 for a small bag of peanuts in the gift shop that the rest of north America sells for 50cents - to $1 is way out of line.
i found the majority of the staff and the service to be adequate, only a small percentage seemed happy to be there and went "above and beyond". dining room service took an inordinately long time in most cases. bar service at a crowded bar can be frustrating, particularly at the pool bar where they could have used a second bartender, tipping an average of $1 per drink with consistency did not seem to make the average bartender any more attentive.
housekeeping was adequate, however one day they did not make the bed, one day they did not leave towels and one night they left the room with only a quarter of a roll of toilet paper.
the pool is too cold (opinion of many group members)
in summary, on a poor- excellent scale i would rate the following
dining room food quality - good/very good
pizza - very good
pub food - fair/poor
omelet station - excellent
drink quality - average/good
service - average
cleanliness - good
at a price point of $125-$140 per person per night for a basic room (based on two in a room) i found it a reasonable value, however had the price been much more the shortcomings would have disturbed me, especially the no food after 12:30am. its a cute comfortable little place, they just need to iron out a few kinks.
OVERALL RATING = AVERAGE/GOOD
