This hotel is very clean. Several dining options and all very good. Friendly service. Check in and out was a breeze. I would recommend this place. I will be back.

In My opinion hotel is a 3 star hotel. The best people were the entertainment, very friendly. Victoria at the checkout was nice.

Air conditioner was out. Bedding was worn. Room was outdated and needs refurbishing. Sink wouldn't drain. Bathtub had dark mold in caulking. Toilet flush button was broken. Room smelled horribly of mold and must. Elevator was in bad shape, no light inside. We did not receive any help from the front desk when we brought our concerns to them. We ended up seeking another resort and leaving the Sonesta after only one night stay. Very disatisfied! Would like a refund.

The air onditioning in our room did not work. We were finally given a fan on the 3rd day here. The ladies at the tour desk were not good at their job. They were always correcting each other. Unless the guests had an idea on what they wanted to do here was very little information given. They need a list of all tours & outside entertainment available for guest upon arriving. y ere always correcting each other. Also they didnt seem to have a list of tours.

Rooms not up to expectation

The Sonesta Great Bay is a wonderful location. The beach and pools are gorgeous. However we didn't find that the room was up to expectations. There was next to no water pressure for the shower. We were at the end of the hallway and the air in the room barely worked during the day and was it was even warmer during the evening. Most days the maid service didn't arrive until nearly 5:00.

This location is very overrated. The rooms are clean and reasonably updated. The guest services at Sonesta Great Bay are well below my minimal expectations. Pros: Cool scented towels and champagne at checkin. Nice pools, well cleaned, but very cold water. Hot tub was perfect. Location. Location. Location. Great views. Cons: Very poor service. No accountability. Employees are working at a leisurely pace. No sense of urgency. Food is average at best. Portions of served food VERY SMALL. Service at restaurants is non-existent at best. You will either have water and maybe coffee or a beverage and never see your server again. No water pressure on 7th floor to shower. Maintenance staff is extremely slow to respond and expect the guest to resolve the issues (toilet overflowed -urine only - took 45 minutes to respond after three phone Calls to front desk. Maintenance worker was done at 4:30pm,, told us he would be back to remove the toilet and fix the next day??????). Finally got moved to another room and keys didn't work. Staff let us in with his master key card. Called and reported bad keys, was told to come down to replace them. I refused, they sent replacement keys and they didn't work. Asked employee to get replacement keys, reluctantly he finally did. Front desk clerk came up and magically she got they keys to work. Said she didn't Re-program them, but now they worked) Hints: Island is great to explore. Rented ATVs front group by spa and explored the island. Had a blast. Walk to Phillipsburg along the boardwalk for great shops and better beaches. Visit Sonesta Maho. Food is much better. Sent cheese plate and champagne to room as apology the next day and offered couples massage as well.

It took a few days for the pool to improve after the hurricane. The beach was unswimmable pretty much due to the storm. All in all we had great weather and a good time. We had booked Great Bay but the roof had blown off. The staff at Maho did a great job inspite of the situation.

While the hotel overall was not bad, most of the wait staff and bar tenders had VERY poor customer service. We are not people that need to be waited on hand and foot, but most of the bar staff would literally ignore you for 2-3 minutes while you stood there. They weren't doing anything, they just stood there looking the other way. The lone exception was Pauline, one of the managers at the a la carte restaurants. Her skills were awesome and she constantly went out of her way to make sure everything ran smoothly. Also we felt that it was unfair to advertise 3 restaurants when only 2 were open per night, sometimes only 1.

the people working at the front desk need to tell people the time of checkout instead of "read the sign" i checked out after 11am and i had to pay $50. they cut the rist band off my wrist. our flight left at 6pm so from 11am-6pm we were cut off from the all inclusive that we payed for. we didnt get to eat luch or dinner becasue the bands were cut. they should allow us to use the beach and eat there untill the bus takes us to the airport not when we check out. there were multiple familes sitting in the lobby waiting for the buses because they too were not able to eat and use the bar or pools because they had their bands cut

Just spent 4 nights at the Sonesta Great Bay Beach. Our room looked to be recently updated but the rest of the hotel needs a lot of work. The worst part of our stay was the rudeness and unwillingness to help of the people "working" there, especially during the week days (weekend workers were friendlier). Everywhere else we went on St Martin, the people were very friendly and helpful.

I love this place BUT it was destroyed by hurricane Irma and will not be available again until 2020. They are currently tearing it down and are going to rebuild. It lies close enough to downtown Philipsburg that my husband and I walk downtown daily. The beach is great and it does drop down quickly into the water. The staff is fantastic. This is my favorite place in St. Maarten.

We chose this resort because it was all adults. There was nothing to do after 8pm. Hardly any entertainment at night. They brought some singers and it was horrible, even the crowd was booing them. This resort is geared towards retired folks. No younger people, I think we were the youngest couple there in our upper 30's.The food was horrible, I had food poison. The rooms are extremely outdated,it was a rundown room. The sink, toilet and tub has seen better days. The room overall was dingy and smelly. The lady that checked us in was extremely rude. She asked for our credit card and said "just in case you break anything" instead of saying that it was for "incidentals".What are we five yrs old going around breaking things.Don't expect much from this place. It quiet and the pool is very small. If you walk down to the board walk, get ready for some pressure from the vendors. We said NO to one and he became extremely confrontational, even calling us names. We stood there 7 days-too long. This was more of a retirement home than an all inclusive hotel.Again,The food is very limited and be careful with eating seafood-that's how I got extremely sick.I do not recommend this hotel unless you don't want to do anything but just lay around being bored all day.

Amazing resort, so sad about it being hit by hurricane

We stayed here for our honeymoon in August and had an amazing trip. The staff here were wonderful and went above and beyond for us. The food was very good at the buffet and all the alacart's, we actually liked the buffet food so much we cancelled one of our alacart reservations. This wasn't a huge resort it was on the smaller side which we liked, we stayed on the top floor and had an amazing ocean view, I walked out every morning on the beach and watched the sunrise before hubby woke up. Iw was so cool to travel up and down in the all glass elevator too.The gym was open 24 hours so I could work out and watch the sunrise also or watch the cruise ships arrive and leave. Right outside the gym they always had a coffee station and mimosas set up in the morning, so very good! There was amazing shopping within walking distance and we had a good time going in and out of the shops. We toke a local bus over to the sister resort I think it cost us $2 and it was so fun to travel with the locals and see how they get around. We truly loved the entertainment staff here too, we had fun playing bingo in the pool, playing flip cup, trivia at the swim up bar and bocce on the beach. I won a necklace and my husband won a bottle of rum on a few different days, it was so much fun. The staff here really worked so hard, and were always so very friendly even just walking in to the breakfast buffet, the greeter always took a minute to talk to us and ask what we were up to for the day and what adventures we may have had the day before. We met with so many of the staff here including the manager taking a few moments to say hi and get to know us, we like to take 1 big trip a year and this place and this resort were my favorite so far. It truly is the friendly island and you feel at home here. I hope they are able to rebuild and the staff all made it out of there okay. Our prayers have been with them.

This was a beautiful hotel in July 2017, before the hurricane

Our room was on the 7th floor ocean front. Room 725. The view was amazing. The only non favorable part was dinner reservations. The machine always said all restaurants were full. After speaking to someone, they did let us in. Would be nice to have a free shuttle to the sister resort.. Hopefully they will rebuild. This was such a beautiful location!

We stayed at this resort the week of the storm. We were fortunate to have been evacuated the day of the hurricane only losing 2 days of our vacation. This was a great resort and hopefully will be rebuilt soon. Location was perfect, walking distance to town, beautiful beach. Service was excellent. Size was just right and the best it was adults only. Rooms were a little tired and needed renovations but everything was very clean. Looking forward to coming back to this beautiful island.
