Very poor. Our edocs did not give us information on time & location of Orientation breakfasts, time & location for tour bus pick-up for Pearl Harbor tour, nor did we have vouchers for tours or car rental which everyone required. Apple's office hours were not convenient for help in these m .. More>

Second visit.

We stayed here for 7 nights using SPG points. We were unable to be upgraded until after the 2nd night to a better room, as is customary for Gold level SPG members, but when we saw the upgraded room, we decided we were happy where we were with a view of the tennis courts, and mountains in the distance. The view provided an opportunity to see some of the largest, most vivid rainbows I have ever seen. Having stayed in an oceanfront room 4 years ago at this hotel, I can honestly say that the selling point of this hotel is not the rooms, but the location. Rooms/Hotel: The rooms are mediocre by Sheraton standards. The bathrooms showed some mold/mildew. There was some much needed painting happening in the hallways and stairways when we were there though there is much more they need to do. But again, this hotel is not about the rooms. Location, location, location. Staff: Front desk staff was excellent at check in and was helpful in trying to provide an upgraded room. The beach staff was friendly and we got to have familiarity with them as we rented a cabana daily and spent most of our time at the beach. The only problem was the valet. We wanted to get on the road early for the Road to Hana and requested our car 30 minutes before we needed it. 30 minutes later, no one was there at the valet stand or at the front desk. A dining room hostess saw us waiting and made a call. 10 minutes later a valet worker came, without speaking, grabbed keys and returned with the car. No apologies and he seemed angry. Beach: The snorkeling here is really very good. Even in water knee-deep you can see fish. Add a mask, fins, and snorkel and you can see tons more fish and frequently, very large sea turtles. It is relaxing to float and watch the fish swim around inches away. I highly recommend bringing your own snorkeling equipment. For both cost and comfort , it just makes sense. I got a travel set from amazon.com for less than 50 bucks, which is less cost than 3 days of rentals of the equipment at the hotel. Also, think about buying a waterproof digital camera. The disposable film cameras provide terrible quality images, and the digital ones enable you to take movies of the fish and turtles swimming by. Food: We ate the breakfast buffet once which was good, but made it hard to swim for hours afterwards. Every other day we got a pastry and coffee from the coffee stand, located off of the lobby. We ate lunches at the Mai Tai Bar and the Cliff Dive Bar. They each have their own menus and I think the Cliff Dive Bar is superior. For dinner, avoid the restaurants on the hotel grounds and head down the beach path to Leilani's and get the Hula Pie. It seems everyone else did the same thing since we never saw more than 4 full tables at the hotel restaurants. The Sheraton Maui has the best location on the best beach in Maui. There are certainly many areas which need improvement, but it is still worth consideration if you're staying in Maui.

Superb location & Beautiful Grounds

We just returned from a 5 night stay at the Sheraton Kaanapali. We had considered the Westin, but are glad that we booked with the Sheraton. 1) Location - it's at the end of Kaanapali Parkway so it is a more quiet resort, but still within walking distance (10 min) to Whaler's village & 10-15 min drive to Napili, Kapalua, and Lahaina, 2) Resort - beautiful, well kept grounds. Very close to Black Rock & steps to the beach. 3) Pool - Pool temperature was a little on the colder side, but once you start moving around, you get used to it. There are 2 bars near the pool & they have a morning and afternoon happy hour. 4) Activities rental - There is an on-site rental for snorkel, masks, fins, etc. After researching rentals at Snorkel Bobs, Maui Divers, $45/full snorkel set for 5 days was not bad, considering we would not have to drive to return the gear. 5) Rooms - we were upgraded to a Deluxe Oceanfront (2nd floor of Building 6, 100 sq ft larger than standard rooms & it also had a microwave & refrigerator). You can get a look at the resort layout on their website. I have read complaints about how far everything is from the pool/beach, but it depends on what type of a resort YOU are looking for. Building 6 is a quieter part of the resort & we did have to take 2 elevators to get to the main beach/pool. But what's the hurry? We are on vacation & plus, the extra walking is good exercise after all the umbrella drinks. Building 3-4 overlook the center of the resort & are closer to the beach/pool. If you like to see the action, these would be your buildings. However, there probably is more hallway traffic & a little more noise facing the center of the resort. The bed was comfortable, bathroom standard, and the outdoor patio furniture was not cushioned, but the view of the ocean was beautiful. 6) Parking - Building 6 had its own private parking lot, so parking was not an issue. We did see a large parking structure at the entrance of the resort which would appear to be a little bit of a walk for those in the other parts of the resort. The reason the Sheraton did not receive 5 stars was the service. It was very inconsistent. Prior to our arrival, we received a letter from one of their representatives that advised us that she was our personal contact at the resort, yet when I inquired about the specifics of our room, she just directed me to the front desk. I had to play tag with the front desk via email so I eventually just called the front desk the day of our arrival. One day, I attempted to call the front desk/operator at 6am to see if we could get towels for the beach and there was no answer. It took 10 minutes of active calling to eventually get in touch with someone. Lastly, the rooms do not have wine glasses & I attempted to call room service to have them delivered at 3pm, but was told room service was not available until 5pm. When I eventually called at 5pm, room service advised that I could go to any restaurant/bar & request for glasses/utensils. Otherwise, to have them delivered to the room, there would be a $4 charge. In spite of the above service issues, the activities concierge (Judd & Lorri) was wonderful in setting up our ocean kayak excursion & giving us information on other activities. The Restaurant/Bar Manager Jennie also went above & beyond to assist me in a special request/delivery to our room to surprise my husband on his birthday. Overall, we would stay at this resort again.

Rooms: We had a late flight, when we checked in they said they only had rooms with double beds and they would transfer us the next day. I'm not sure how they made this mistake, having made the reservation months in advance, but it was 1 AM our time. When the bellman took the bags to our room, he told us we were in one of the "worst" rooms in the house, he would request an upgrade for us. Supposedly we were in a Gold upgrade room with an oceanview. I think they dupe you into thinking Gold rooms are an upgrade. After peaking into other rooms, Gold level rooms are older and shabbier and the location is horrible. The "oceanview" is a joke. It was of a hedge. You could walk out of the room across the lawn and look down over the hedge to see the ocean. Higher floor rooms would have a better view. The main-floor had a patio. The patio had old, broken lawn furniture. The lawn chair was broken. It was stuck in the down position. It was so covered with bird poop, it was un-usable. It was never wiped down while we were there. We were never moved to another room. The phone in the room did not work. So I called from the cell. They did not answer the front desk phone. Over our 4 night stay we called numerous times and the phone would just ring and ring. Once I even called the Sheraton 1-800 reservation number and even asked if they could possibly route me through to the lobby. Still no luck. So there was no "customer service". Someone was suppose to contact us to arrange, changing rooms-they never did & we could never contact them. We ended up in the double our whole vacation. There is no customer service at this hotel. The "suite" did not have a seating area, just 2 double beds, chair, TV, desk, closet, micro & fridge. Gold Members- As other Tripadvisor Members have pointed out you are promised a "Welcome" gift upon check-in. You don't get one. They put you in there Gold level rooms, in the Halemona building. The Halemona building is the closest to The Black Rock. It is the oldest part of the Sheraton. The original buildings. They say they are 3-4 minutes from the beach, pool. When you are wet, tired, forgotten your sunscreen and going back to your room for the fifth time that day it is about a 10 minute walk. It takes 4 elevators just to reach the restaurants. Request a room close to the pool, swimming beach, lobby and restaurants. The closer the better. The parking at Halemona is also a problem. Often there would not be parking near the building. Housekeeping- Was only average. Just a cursory wipe down of room. We are at the beach, extra towels would have been nice. They were stingy with vanity items. The hallways were terribly strewn with trash. Blowing litter, newspapers, room service dishes. One day in the hallway there was a large garbage bag in the breeze way. The next day there were more garbage bags piled ontop. The hallway turned into a dumpsite. The Grounds- Are paradise and deserve all the accolades. The Beach- The beach cabana's are 45.00 plus tax. They are 2 padded chairs a small tray area and a large sun cover. You can also get 2 strap lawn chairs and a umbrella for the same price. The cabanas is a better option. They set up the cabana in the sand for you, but that is it folks. This is not The Four Season's. Don't expect any other services on the beach. The cabanas have to be turned in by 4:45pm (because they want to close at 5pm). The beach itself is amazing. The surf was breaking really high when we were there. Unusual for this time of year, I understand. The Pool- it is visually beautiful. They have a lazy river, kiddie pool and small slide. NO ONE USES IT. It is not heated. The hotel employees that had to go in it, actually wore wet suits- its that cold. They said the ocean is 73 degrees, the pool 60 degrees. As much as they charge here, why can't they heat the pool? Maui is paradise. Next time I will try and find a hotel that befits paradise.

We stayed at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa for eight nights at the end of April. We were in building 3 and had an ocean view room. My understanding is that this was a regular ocean view and that they also offer deluxe ocean view rooms. I was traveling with my four year old son and my wife. Our room looked good but the bathroom looked a little dated. It looked like they updated the room but not the bathroom. Our main concern is cleanliness and this hotel is very clean. The hotel grounds are immaculate and the beach is wonderful. The pools are good too. The chairs at the pool are free and the hotel does charge for anything on the beach. If you do not want to pay for chairs but want to have chairs I would recommend getting chairs by the pool close to the beach and setting up there. That way you can see the beach and get the beach feeling. In my opinion, the hotel is at the best part of the beach. We saw a turtle every day we were there (it may have been the same one). You don't even need to snorkel, the turtles come within 5 yards of the beach and can be clearly seen from the shallow water. It was great!!! Snorkeling was great too but we have seen a lot more fish snorkeling close to shore in the Caribbean. The food is good but expensive in the hotel restaurants. I would recommend going to the whalers village for cheaper food. The whalers village is a 10 minute walk from the hotel. There is a wonderful walkway next to the beach (do not walk on the street behind the hotel). I do highly recommend renting a car. Maui is beautiful to explore. Everyone talks about the road to Hana but we found driving to the North Shore just as beautiful. If you do decide to drive to the North Shore, there is a point where the road gets extremely narrow. I would recommend turning around at this point, going further is dangerous. If you are in building 3 (your room number begins with the number 3) do not park in the parking structure or you will spend half your vacation walking. There is parking behind the building, instead of turning left to go to the hotel lobby, continue driving straight toward the round-about. Keep to the right on the round-about and the parking will be on your left. The only issue we had with the hotel was with the room cleaning staff. They did do a great job cleaning the room but they never replenished the coffee cups or the shampoo/conditioner/lotion. We ran out multiple times and had to call the front desk and request replenishment. Not sure why this was but they did not replenish without us telling them. This will probably make me very unpopular but I would not recommend renting a Jeep on Maui. I am a Jeep owner and can tell you that driving in a Jeep for an extended period of time is not very comfortable. In Maui, if you do the road to Hana or anything else, you will end up spending half the day in the car. The roads are narrow and winding, driving them in a Jeep will not be comfortable. Also, it rains (for short periods) daily. If you have a Jeep and it is open (why else would you get one) you will not be able to close it quickly and can end up soaked. If you want anything open, rent a convertible if not, just get a regular car. It is much cheaper to rent a convertible right off the bat then to try to switch cars when there. The exception would be if you are planning on going off-roading which I cannot imagine you would be doing with a rental. The weather was good when we were there. It was pretty windy a few days and it did rain (sprinkle for 10-15 minutes) almost every day. Other than that, it was sunny and 85ish. Lahaina is a 5 minute ride and it is worth taking a look at. Lot of restaurants and the home of the Lahaina Grill (supposedly rated top restaurant in Maui).
