No wash cloths, no lamps, just one ceiling light. Outlets only available in bathroom. Food was not good at all. Liquids, but no glasses, tables not cleared, pancakes and empty syrup. Very poor service, short staffed??? We were with a tour and everyone was disappointed. No hot water in the shower, called and later were told it was fixed. Went to take a shower and no hot water. Called desk AGAIN, guy came up again and tore the faucet apart and had to go get some parts, now we have waiting over an hour to take our showers before dinner. Was never fixed as they told us it was and they had all day. Do not recommend this hotel. Lots and lots and lots of kids. Pool food was always empty.

Fourth year at Sheraton Bijao

This is our 4th year at Sheraton Bijao, Santa Clara. We travel the last week of January or the first week of February and stay for two weeks. Why do we continue to travel here? The weather is incredible (if you like it hot) and the price is reasonable. The beach is good (we like this beach better than the beach at Royal Decameron and Woody's area), you can walk for miles. The staff work hard and are eager to please. We noticed their English has improved since last year (a lot of them are taking classes). There is always someone who speaks English fluently so you are never stuck. There is a small gym with enough equipment for the average person. Combine that with a walk on the beach and you're covered. I have read comments that the hotel and rooms are “dated”. I won't argue that but the rooms are clean and comfortable. Modern looking with newer paintings aren't high on our “must have” list and are far behind weather, beaches, food, service, pools/facilities, helpful and friendly staff. I can count on my room being cleaned thoroughly, the towels replaced and hot water for my shower. Is the resort spotless? No, but what I observed it is guests leaving a mess and not picking up after themselves (really, would you leave a half finished drink on the stairs at home?) but as soon as the staff sees this it is cleaned up. The chefs are awesome; If you have dietary restrictions they will adjust your meal. Please tip, the staff works so hard and rely on tips to make ends meet. A dollar to us is nothing but it goes a long way for them. There is nothing “touristy” within walking distance. Panama City is two hours away (two and a half with traffic), Anton Valley (and the various tours) are forty five minutes to an hour away. This is not a party hotel so if you are looking for a party crowd this may not be the place for you. Like any other resort if you want prime seating you will have to get up early and put your towel etc. on the chairs you want. You can always get a lounge but it may not be in a shady area. As much as this sounds like a glowing review and recommendation (it is) you will always find little things to complain about if you look hard enough. One afternoon they ran out of clean pool towels but that was the worst we faced. This family friendly resort is well worth the money. Honourable mentions (and I apologize in advance for any misspelled names and omissions): Santiago (Director of operations): - Keeps this place running. Very friendly, helpful and obliging. Jorge: - Keeps the kitchen, restaurants and bars going. Very friendly and helpful. If you have dietary concerns he's the “go to” guy. Carlos (chef): - Awesome chef, puts on a great show at Sakura. Very creative. Jonathan (chef): - Another creative chef. Does any dietary restriction worry these guys – I think not. Eric (chef): - New this year. Seems as creative as the others. Good find! Michael (wait staff Taboga buffet): - Very friendly, hard working and helpful. Your glass will never be empty. Goes above and beyond. Speaks English fairly well. Daniel (waiter Taboga buffet): - Also the morning “coffee guy”. Always makes sure coffee is available for the early risers (5:15 am!). Friendly and helpful. Felix (lobby bar): - Introduces himself as Felix the cat. Speaks English well. Knows his drinks Romuldo (bar): - Friendly, cheerful and very helpful. Carolina (Olivos): - Friendly, very helpful arranging special needs. Militza (SPG): - Friendly and helpful. Always smiling. Noris (waitress Taboga buffet): - Very hard working. Will always be there to refill your coffee Masiel (guest services): - Can arrange pretty much anything you need – and she does it with a smile.

Good Points Although they were short staffed and a good deal of them not trained, the staff really tried. The wine wasn't bad it, it was all from Chile. Bad Points I would guess the hotel is about 30 years old ( or just looks like it ) and needs a good deal of work. The bathrooms had water damage, the fixtures were old and corroded The walls in the rooms needed painting and maybe some art work They had a 2 double beds instead of queens Nothing in the bar fridge and the pop machine in the restaurant wasn't turned on until noon ( only half of pop dispensers worked anyway) They only served champagne in one bar and it tasted like gasoline The restaurants had a real bird problem, if you weren't protecting your plate within seconds 4 or 5 birds would swam it. There weren't any fans in the rooms or restaurants so the main eating area was stifling hot at night when the wind dyed down. Very few guard rails on the stairs and I watched 2 people fall. The buffet selection appealed to a local crowd. Fish soup for breakfast, hot dogs, canned tuna, cold cuts and oatmeal that looked like milk with a couple of grains of oat meal. In general all the food was WAY over salted The bread was good and you could get an omelet. The pool restaurant had cheese pizza, hot dogs , hamburgers and one day shredded beef mixed with french fries ?? The pools look nice in the picture but are dirty and dated. They had weighted umbrellas at the pool but they really moved around on windy days. The wind caught one of the smaller ones and it missed my head by inches. In conclusion this should not be branded as a Sheraton. The nexus tours were another complete rip off One group went to the Anton valley, which turned out to be just a zoo Our group was shown a picture of a 35 ft fishing boat but arrived to find them selves on a 20 ft boat with no shade, no washrooms and no fish to catch. At a rate of $200 each. They also took us to a town called Penonome which was like Walmart does Panama but the no toilet seats in the washrooms if you could find one.

Overpriced for how they treat you

I have to admit that the service from de people at the bar, restaurant etc, was really good, very helpful people. But when it comes to the administration personal, there's no worlds to describe it , they are rude, impolite, arrogante, there's a lot of management work to do there. Regarding the facilities the pool was ok even if they tuned out of towels pretty easily. The rooms tough, are not that good... really old and dirty... but guess what ? If you call the reception to ask for them to clean up the room, don't expect them to send any one ...
