LOVED IT!!

This review is a little delayed as I stayed at the sheraton bijao in july 2015, but still wanted to write about it because i absolutely LOVED my time there! I'll write about the cons first, since there weren't that many. Cons: The resort is about 2 hours from the airport, however, we got a private driver and everything we passed he told us something about it. He was great and very informative(i believe the company we used was road runner). The restaurants that you had to make reservations for were kind of disappointing, and surprisingly the buffet food was more enjoyable for me. Our room was situated above the pool (awesome ocean view) but my only complaint about that was the nightly entertainment would go on around 9pm and it was very loud. we usually got up very early so by that time we were wiped but it was so loud we had trouble falling asleep until they stopped around 11. There was no beach drink service. Pros: The buffet food was great! every night there was a different theme... they're not great at japanese lol, but that's not surprising. They KILLED mexican night! it was AMAZING! they had green lipped mussels that night OMG fantastic. they also made some awesome ceviche! the breakfast buffet had fresh omelets made to order which were also really good. I was very impressed with the buffet food, actually. they also had very delicious juices set up all day, ones ive never had before which i really enjoyed. my favorite was the watermelon juice, but they also had papaya, mango, etc. The WIFI was great, reached all the way down to the beach. The beach is freakin BEAUTIFUL. The majority of the sand here is black... it's so unique and gorgeous i seriously loved it. also, since the sand is a result of volcanic activity there are a lot of grains that are metallic so the sand literally sparkles in the sun especially after the water rushed over it. The water there is a deep turquoise, darker than the Caribbean aqua blue but i did notice on a really sunny day it looked very similar. since it's the pacific, darker water is to be expected but it is still absolutely beautiful none the less. there was not a problem with seaweed at all. the water was crystal clear and i also found a lot of beautiful shells there. one thing i thought was very cute was the hermit crabs that run across the sand. they're adorable! there didnt seem to be a problem with lounge chairs, there were plenty for everyone, but this might be because we went during panama's "off season" where is apparently rains a lot. it rained for MAYBE an hour a day.. idk maybe we got lucky but when it rained it was only around 7pm. the rooms are very clean, beds surprisingly comfortable.. not hard as rocks like many other hotels. pilllows were also very soft. clean bathrooms, GREAT water pressure in the showers. like better than the water pressure in my own shower lol. i almost didnt want to get out. room service was good. my hair dryer broke because my hair got stuck in it lol but they brought up a new one promptly when requested. room service did not bother us when we did not want our rooms cleaned. we went on 2 excursions. one was with road runner and our guide (neil) took us into the old city, and the panama canal. we were supposed to see the new city too but didnt end up having enough time so that was a slight disappointment. Then we got dropped off at jungle land where we stayed overnight. i HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS EXPERIENCE! it's a FLOATING HOTEL/BOAT HOUSE in the middle of the RAIN FOREST! Captain Carl was a riot! He has all kinda of crazy pets on board you get to see/hold! I won't ruin it for you! The next day you get a few different options of things you can do. theres fishing, kayaking through the rain forest and jumping down a waterfall/ going to see the monkeys on different little islands (they advertise it as "monkey island" but that's not a real place lol theres tons of small islands and they all have monkeys.. still awesome though) and you could hike through the rain forest on one of the islands. my friend and i decided to kayak, jump down the waterfall, and hike. it was SO AWESOME! oh and also the night before you go on a boat in pitch black and carl catches baby alligators and you get to hold them. they're actually really cute and harmless! it was so awesome being in the middle of wildnerness in pitch black and just being able to listen to the noises of the rain forest. By the way, yes it rained lol obviously. but it's so hot there the rain was kind of a relief. The first day it down poured for like 2 hours but it was so cool and i felt like i was getting an authentic rain forest experience. the second day it didnt really rain that much actually maybe a drizzle here and there. the food at jungle land was authentic Panamanian and it was fantastic. i loved that the food was served on bijao leaves! there was also plenty of beer and liquor on the boat for purchase, but carl and some of the other guests loved that my friend and i were both bartenders! All in all i had an amazing time in panama, during my excursions, and at the sheraton bijao. anyone who may have given this place a negative review is probably the type of person who will always find something to complain about, and i would not suggest letting that deter you. Had an amazing vacation with friends. The experience here exceeded our expectations. The buffet was very good with a variety of different hot foods, salads and desserts. The a la carts were great with the Japanese being our favorite so we went twice. The beach was fantastic and you could walk on for miles and the sun rise was stunning. The pools were very warm and kept clean. During the week we found the resort was very quiet but on the weekend there were many guests from places like Columbia but we didn't find this a problem at all. We could always find a beach or pool lounger so there was no need to reserve one with your towel early in the morning. The blue chairs were pretty comfy but the brown ones as hard as rock so they might want to do some upgrading there. The staff was very friendly but didn't really know English but hey we were visiting their country so it wouldn't hurt us to learn a bit of basic Spanish. There was entertainment every night and the entertainment coordinator was fantastic and had us screaming with laughter. In the morning there was always something to do like bean bag toss, darts or aerobics. Our room was kept very clean as was the rest of the resort. One nice bonus was the no smoking policy anywhere on the resort. We had room 1530 a very nice room with a large balcony, but being right over the delivery area it was noisy early in the morning. The weather was hot hot hot and not a drop of rain. The ride from the airport was about 10 minutes. Cheers to another great vacation. Thank you Sheraton Bijao More>

Amazing Vacation!!!

Have you ever travelled to Cuba and stayed in a 4 or 5 start resort?? Did you enjoy your vacation???? If yes forget every bad review that you have read here!!! We have travelled to 3 resorts I Cuba and one in the Dominican and this has, by far, been our favourite destination yet!!! Room was clean and bed and pillows were extremely comfortable, great shower with tons of pressure!! The room is very basic and had little décor but we don't go on vacation to stare at the pictures on the wall in our room! We were even lucky enough to be given an ocean view room when we only booked and paid for garden view! The show can be noisy at night but the latest it ended was 11:00pm. We loved the buffet and found that for us there was always a good variety. Many of the foods were similar to what we eat at home!. We went to the Japanese a la carte twice and loved it (had no issue booking either- we even went in the afternoon the one day to book for the next evening). If you enjoy having a great, friendly bartender find Archie (Arquimedes)- he was our absolute favourite of all time!! If you do have the pleasure of meeting him tell him that Dan and Rikki say Hi!!! Just got home last week and I would hop on a plane and go back today if I could, wouldn't hesitate at all. I say, if you are going for a Caribbean vacation and have realistic expectations of what that can be like then you are going to love it here!!! Amazing value for the price!!! More>

Rooms could use updating and there wasn't a clean feel to anything. The buffet food was pretty bad, and restaurant reservations were tough to come by (arriving at the desk at 815, when reservations started at 8-- we were told there was only a 9pm seating)-- we were fairly sure that they treated Americans different than their own. They were very stingy with bottled water-- everyone in our group of 14 people were very sick from the food and/or water. I would definitely not stay here again. The pools were fine, but again felt dirty. The beach had a lot of potential if there weren't atvs and SUVs treating the beach like a highway (driving 30+ mph)-- my 3 year old was walking from the towel to the water and someone laid on their horn without slowing down. Super place and great deal! We paid $1150 inclusive. Food in specialty restaurants was exceptional and the buffet was great. Always something great to eat. This is not a party place for young singles which suited me perfectly. You never had to get up early to save a lounge: there were lots of them available with plenty of shade at the pool and the beach. The best part of this place was that there was no smoking anywhere on the property. Service and staff were excellent. It's a very secluded resort with no other hotels anywhere, so no people on the beach within miles in either direction. Sand is beautiful. No beach people selling their wares. No real focus on water sports. Fantastic place, clean and safe. Highly recommend. More>
