The secert's wild orchid hotel is a older resort that is still in good condition. They just recently went thru a management change that has the resort in disarray. The overall resort staff was very nice we did run into a few staff that had attitudes and wasn't very friendly for what ever reason. The quality of the rooms were great and comfortable. They kept our rooms very clean and refreshed with changed towels and sheets. The bars were ok. The selection of liquor was decent nothing to brag about. The bartenders were hit and miss in being able to fix a good tasting cocktail. The food quality was not good and very inconsistent. They had a buffet in the morning and for lunch. At night you had to go to one of the restaurant's. We waited on the average of 20-40 minutes for a group of five. The servers were not good. The food quality was poor due to the fact that the food was pre cooked and cold upon arrival. Some of the food tasted like it was pre frozen. There were also a few public restrooms that the door handles were broke and didn't work. The entertainment was ok nothing to brag about. This a very safe and clean resort. Once the new management makes changes it should return to very nice resort.

Wild Orchid is a good hotel with good food, decent drinks and nice beach. The maid service was excellent. I was disappointed that top shelf liquor was really only available at the lobby bar. Although I did see a bar tendeder take a bottle of Grey Goose out of a closed cabinet had a pool bar one day. Nice calm beaches.

The resort was beautiful and the nightly entertainment was great! The food was good, but was very limited as I have a gluten intolerance. Before leaving for vacation, the resort reassured my travel agent that there would be a wide variety of food for me to eat. This was not the case and many servers didn't seem to be aware that there was gluten free bread on the resort, which there was because a wonderful server at the Italian restaurant found me some. With an increasing number of people being diagnosed with Celiac or gluten intolerance, this is something the resort should work on improving.

Spent 7days at Secrets Wild Orchid and have to say that it was a seamless vacation of relaxation ... we paid extra for the “ preferred status “ and have to say that for my husband and myself it was well with it as we had no interest in partaking in the group party atmosphere of the main pool area and completely enjoyed the quiet and solitude of the private pool and beach area that the preferred status area provided. Meals were all good and service was excellent. We knew to dodge the “morning breakfast sales pitched” and once the sales rep accepted that we were not going to be lured to the presentation(within the first 24 hours) we were left alone with no other mention there after. I used the gym facilities daily and found it to have most everything that is need d for a well thought out gym should have. The. Each and pool area were well kept and the grounds beautiful ... definitely recommend if you are looking for a great time

We stayed in the preferred section of Secrets Wild Orchid for five nights over Easter weekend, in a junior with ocean view on the second floor. After a lengthy wait at customs, which convinced us to try the expedited service offered by Mobay on our next visit, Amstar secured a private car for us at the airport. The short 15-minute ride from the airport to SWO is one advantage of staying there. The bellman met us immediately and was helpful in moving our luggage to the preferred building at the far end of the beautiful, clean property. He brought us rum drinks to enjoy while we checked in. As others have noted, check-in included an offer for something called the “repeater program,” an unpleasant experience with a hard-sell component. We were questioned about whether Apple Vacations had told us to decline the offer; they had not, we had read about this part of the check-in process online. Not the sort of welcome we were hoping for. But after we declined the offer, the matter was never brought up again, and our declining it did not seem to carry with it any negative consequences for our trip. Our room was in good shape and clean, with an open plan, jacuzzi, large shower stall, double sinks, and a very comfortable mattress on the bed. The balcony had a small wicker table with two chairs and a soaking tub we enjoyed three times in the late afternoon. The room smelled fresh, and we never noticed the mustiness others have complained about. We can’t say much about the TV because we were so busy enjoying ourselves in and out of the room that we never watched it. We are proper vegetarians, so even the seafood was off limits. We discovered some choices on the menu, and when we couldn’t, the chefs were very accommodating. Mario made us a delicious meal at the Bordeaux, and our hibachi chef Javaun even cooked the tofu first so that it didn’t commingle with the meat prepared for the other guests. We found the food and snack choices uniformly excellently over the entire six day period. The Blue Mountain coffee served at the resort is so good that I will be ordering it online for home use. The late night roving barbecue is not to be missed. We were surprised and delighted to find that jerk veggie burgers were available! Beaches and pools were well-maintained. There were plenty of chairs, lounges, and cabanas available at both. We worked the resort pretty hard, especially the water sports and night life. I know how to sail and took out the Hobie Cat on my own. We also snorkeled, parasailed, kayaked, and paddle-boarded. The staff at Captain’s water sports were very friendly and helpful, and there was a short wait for all activities. During the course of our stay there were many types of musical and dance events to watch and participate in. The house band was top-quality entertainment. The romantic beach fire included acoustic folk music. At 10:30, the outdoor acts fell silent so those who preferred to sleep could do so, but the silent disco with headphones at the Barracuda Bar was a hoot, and the nightclub was a nice way to wrap up the night. One quibble was that at times a live DJ gave way to a playlist which was used multiple times and became repetitive. Both day and night, the preferred building was mellow while the remainder of the resort was more social and livelier. We appreciated having the option to choose either setting depending on our mood. Line dance lessons by the pool ended up being private because we were the only ones to show up. Well, not so private in that everyone at the pool watched us! Entertainment team members Sky and Love made that experience memorable and fun. Our go-to bar was the Barracuda. Bartenders Kedesha, Everett, and Elton (who also served on the beach) remembered us and prepared many different types of drinks exactly the way we like them. There was no pressure to tip the staff. We always tip for good service, and ended up tipping roughly the same amount we would have at home. We liked that the resort allowed us to show our appreciation. Workers at the resort knew how to do their jobs professionally and unobtrusively, but authentic, interesting conversations with them about their lives and country were possible with prompting from us, and we enjoyed the opportunity to learn. We had a great time at Secrets in Jamaica and plan to return in the near future.

Upon arrival we were greeted by wonderful staff, that got us on our transport to the hotel. Once at the resort we were given a drink and a cool towel as we checked in, our view was breathtaking from our room. The pool staff and entertainment staff was so amazing they kept us feed, drinks full entertained and relaxed!! We loved every minute of our stay. Ruby, teneasha, Edwart, llyod, were our favorite staffers but there were many others. We can not wait to go back, the hotel was clean, and beautiful. Our only wish was if the Rick's cage excursion was more often that twice a week. Since it was cancelled due to weather but the other day was after we left.

Based on reviews, we were expecting exceptional food. However, I found the food good but not exceptional. Attention to detail in room maintenance was not exceptional nor was attention to arrival sparkling wine and cheese and mimosa breakfast. We had a few staff members that obviously didn't like their jobs and were rude. A verbal fight between two bar staff was a bit unpleasant to watch. Too many lounges on the beach such that guests were too close to each other. Saving of pool lounges was rampant and we found that some placed towels on lounges very early but didn't show up until past noon. Grounds were lovely and clean. Our view of the ocean was fabulous!

We had lights that didn’t work in our room. Bathroom area was not cleanest and looked and smelled like there may be water issue. Kinda mildew smell. Water leaks from shower into toilet area. Hotel phone worked for 1 day and then stopped. Repeatedly asked for them to fix it but they ever did. All male staff was great. A few female staff that I saw and heard with others a with people I was with had attitude. Bartenders at the wild orchid pool bar were awesome!!! But the pool was freezing so drinking cold drinks made it that much colder.

Sick the whole time, horrible clientele

My husband and I traveled to Jamaica for 5 nights for our mini-moon after our wedding in Aruba. We stayed at Secrets Wild Orchid for the last 2 nights of our trip. The good: The room and resort were super nice! At first impression, it felt like a 5 star resort. We loved our ocean front suite and didn't mind how the bathroom was set up (as other reviewers did) until we both got sick (more on that later). The bed was ah-mazingggg. Best nights sleep I had our whole trip. The service was amazing everywhere we went, from the front desk, to the bars and restaurants, even the spa. Everyone was friendly and helpful, truly service with a smile. The iPad in the room was awesome for ordering rooms service, towels, etc. We loved being able to get a bottle of champagne sent up with a click of a button. The not so good: The resort claims to have top shelf alcohol which is technically true, but only in the lounges (piano bar). The beach bars and restaurants don't have anything above Smirnoff, etc. We ended up buying a nice bottle of wine the last night to get a break from well/house wines. The food was just ok and the way the restaurants are set up is pretty terrible. All the restaurants are in 1 area that services all 3 resorts (wild orchid, st james, and breathless). This means for wait times even as late at 830/9pm! There was even a wait for the breakfast buffet. I'm not sure what made us sick, the alcohol (hard to believe because we aren't big drinkers), food, or water but both my husband and I had bouts of travelers diarrhea the entire stay (and a few days beyond). The hotel also charges a ridiculous amount for pepto ($3 per chew-able dose). My husband was sicker than I which led to him not leaving the room all day and me spending my days alone on our mini-moon. The beach is just ok, having come from Aruba then Negril and then Montego Bay might not have been the best idea because comparatively Aruba blows it all away. Entertainment by the pool was more distracting and mind numbing (playing 30 seconds of TV intro music back to back for over an hour?) than pleasurable. The clientele Now I know I can't blame the hotel for this, but I think it needs to be said that our entire stay felt like a bad rap video. Rowdy groups walking around blasting music from their personal devices. Maybe it was the time of the year (Caribbean in July is known to be cheaper) or maybe that's just what this resort/other adult only resorts attracts? All in all I was really disappointed. I came here on a recommendation by my sister who traveled in April of 2015 and couldn't stop raving about it. Unfortunately we have very different experiences. I would not recommend this resort until some of the above is remedied.

Big disappointment

I am not sure where or how to begin. I researched for a year before selecting this resort. My husband and I just returned from a week long stay at this resort for my birthday. It is marketed as a five star resort so I did expect a certain level of service-Jamaican time or no- this resort is not five star. From the moment we arrived the service was lacking and several employees were downright rude! I’m sure many of you are wondering if we tipped- YES! I understand that these are hard working people who probably don’t make much so we always tip. There were a few stand out employees such as Sky on the entertainment team, Etwan and Alvin behind the bar, but overall the service was not what we expected at a five star resort. The food was terrible. Just not good at all with the exception of the jerk cart (very good) and the barefoot grill. In fact one morning in the preferred lobby for breakfast, I picked up a plate with moldy cheese. I am a person who works in the service industry and I do eat fine dining quite a bit, I honestly did not expect fine dining but was hoping for at least ok food. The beach was gorgeous- zero complaints with that. The entertainment by the pool was just ok. We had to ask 3 different days to turn music on or turn it up so we could hear. I get that this is not a party resort but please we need music at the pool! Most resorts I have been to have mini shows by the pool, here there was nothing of that sort, just volleyball and quiz type games. Also one of the reasons we selected this resort was that we could go to breathless for the foam parties and have the best of both worlds- relax and party. They no longer do the foam party. It is now a pool party which is advertised from 11-6 but unless you are preferred you can not go until 3. After discussing this let down with resort staff, they did upgrade us to preferred (I felt the customer service in this particular instance was over and beyond and I appreciate that) however, Thank God I did not pay for preferred. The room was exactly the same with the exception of having a tub on the balcony. The preferred lounge did have food- it was not good and had premium alcohol selections which were not offered at any other bars. I hate to sound like a complainer but I just felt extremely let down with our experience. At this point I do not recommend this resort and would be very skeptical about returning to Jamaica. We were planning on booking at Secrets in Cabo for next March and this trip completely changed my mind about that as well.

Outstanding !!

My wife and I booked a quick long weekend last Sunday and just returned from a great trip. I was mostly impressed by the customer service, specifically Matthew our bell hop and Mackenzie our pool attendant. These two gentleman were polite, attentive and truly understood what customer service is. I commend them for the service they provided and hope their employer does also. Joe Santo

Stayed two weeks in Wild Orchid Preferred Swim out room with my Husband. We had visited 3 years ago and stayed St.James non preferred. We enjoyed so much we came back ( which is a first for us we have never visited same place twice) This time even better. The rooms are generally the same either resort preferred or non. Very nice with rooms cleaned daily, towels refreshed, fridge topped up etc. All good. Our room was right next door to the preferred lobby so was very convenient to pop in for snacks and drinks or breakfast to take to our room. Big shout out to Matthew in preferred lobby who always greeted by name and was very helpful . All of the ladies who served our drinks by the pool were amazing and so friendly. Delbert who was behind bar in the breathless top roof bar was fun and always kept us entertained. Most of all I would like to thank Samuel who was the lifeguard by the towel stand. Every morning he would save our bed outside our swimout room sometimes with flowers. He made sure we had cold bottles of water if we were looking hot. I had been bitten by a mosquito on my foot and hand and he brought a aloe vera plant leaf and cut open and treat my bites which had swollen and all red. He told me to keep in fridge and keep applying and in a day or two the bites were a lot better. ( Oh and he was so friendly and funny. Him and my Husband had daily laughs ) The food was really good at all restaurants . The roof top breathless restaurant was really good. But you have to be part of the preferred to gain access. The beach can be a bit stony but the sea is lovely and clear and so warm, amazing. The whole complex Wild Orchid, St.James and Breathless are a like a small village everything is close by and I would highly recommend visiting.

We stayed at Secrets Wild Orchid from July 11-15. We were a group of 18. Check-in was a bit unorganized, we were first told to sit in the lobby and someone would come to get us, after no one showed up we went to the check-in desks and finally got checked in. We were in room 2424. The room was good, it was clean, although the entire property could use some upgrading. No real complaints, had a nice pool/ocean view. We were lucky, as most of the group had some sort of problem with their safe batteries, their water pressure, their key card reader batteries going dead and not being able to enter their room. A bunch of little things. We had a great time with friends and family, but the resort itself did have a few shortcomings. Guest rooms provided slippers but no robes. Pool service was SLOOOWWW. Better off getting out of the pool or lounger and getting a drink on your own. Room service breakfast menu does not include what one might consider normal breakfast items such as eggs, bacon etc. you have to go to the buffet for anything more than pastries or fruit. The dinner room service menu selection was actually really good, but be prepared to wait for 90 minutes or more. If you like to float in the ocean (Iberostar Grand allows their floats to be used in the ocean) you'll need to go to the gift shop and spend $15 on your own float, so I would recommend packing a cheapy dollar store float that you can just leave there when you check out. One of our group took their pool float to the ocean and the life guard blew the whistle at her and told her the salt water eats up the floats so they are not allowed in the ocean. Food at every restaurant we went to was good. I would say better than most all inclusives. Beach is rocky in most places. Best place to get in the water is where the boats are on the beach in front of St. James. We stayed in the pool most days. Beach at Iberostar Grand was much much nicer. I would stay here again, but they should pay closer attention to the small details and conveniences to guests. Staff was very friendly, but seemed overwhelmed causing slow service. We also had a group of young adults in the rooms on both sides of ours apparently celebrating a birthday (banner on door) and they were so loud, slamming doors, yelling up and down the hallway after 10pm. We aren't old and do our fair share of partying, but these guests apparently had zero home training. We didn't make a big deal out of it, as we are pretty easy going, and it is Jamaica, so we just turned our tv up to try to block them out. Just be advised it is not a quiet resort, although it is on the smaller side.
