Lovely Resort for a Getaway Weekend

My beloved and I went to Secrets Vallarta Bay for a long weekend. This was the second visit in the last 6 months or so. On the way, we missed our connection and had to overnight in Atlanta. Notifying the resort was easy and they handled rearranging our transport from the airport to the resort. Transport and check in were smooth and seamless. We had a swim out room in the preferred club. The room was large and well-appointed, and we had a view of both the city skyline and the ocean. Rut, our concierge, was superb. She arranged reservations for us, made sure the room fridge and snack area were stocked with our preferences and generally took great care of us. Atef in Preferred Guest Services was wonderful in assisting us in getting the room we wanted and checking if we were celebrating anything and arranging the party cruise and more. Finally, Fernando, our poolside waiter was great and made sure that La Senora’s margarita was regularly replenished. The resort is well kept, and someone was always cleaning, trimming vegetation, or generally keeping the facilities clean and in good repair. The breakfast buffet was very nice, and the Asian Hibachi Grill and French restaurants were above average. The Barefoot Café, poolside is great for a quick snack or lunch while sunning. The resort is within a few minutes’ walk of shopping and attractions and there is always some kind of activity going on at the resort. Often, more than one and choosing can be a problem, but a good one. Secrets Vallarta Bay has become one of our favorites and I highly recommend a visit.

I loved this place and their staff. A great place to stay.

This was my first time at an all-inclusive and it was much better than I had expected. I went with two friends and I didn’t do any research, trusting my well-traveled friends and their travel agent. As a person that likes to be active and spend time with local residents of wherever I am visiting, I was worried that it would be a slow, dull week of old people just lying under palapas, barely moving, listening to slow jazz. From the beginning, I was mistaken on all preconceptions about what Secrets Vallarta was. There was plenty to do, as activities and entertainment are planned and communicated for most of the day and into the night. Beach volleyball, ping pong, water aerobics, and tennis kept me happy. Thank you to Salvador, the tennis pro, from whom I took three lessons. Nice guy and very knowledgeable. Special thanks to Sajidth and Rene, activities coordinators that kept the place alive and moving. Super guys overall. About the room: Mine had attractive tile throughout and I was especially impressed with the style and design of the shower. The bed was very comfortable, and the fan and A/C worked superbly. There is a small safe for valuables. The television had approximately 50 channels should one feel the need to watch a television while in paradise. The facilities/grounds are impeccably maintained every day. Don’t miss the falcon in action, Secrets’ natural pest control solution. Secrets is gated in front and security patrols the back 24/7. Thank you to Nestor, Antonio, Miguel (night guy), Michel, and the big guy on the beach (whose name I don’t remember) in Security for the warm welcome, for sending us off, and everything in between. As far as entertainment, there are talented musicians and singers performing every day and night. My favorite of those was a Beatles show with a live cover band dressed Sgt. Peppers’ style, dancers, and acrobats. Very well done and impressive. During the day, music was either recorded or live and of different genres. At night, there were several highly talented solo singers, some accompanied by a musician, and solo musicians, such as an acoustic guitar player. The breakfast buffet at the Market Café was my favorite of the restaurants. Literally 50-60 different offerings every day. Thanks to Iris for the excellent French-style omelets. Lunch was also good – thanks to Rogelio at the ceviche bar. To all the hosts and waitpersons in all three restaurants, I appreciated your outstanding service and friendliness. And thanks to Alejandro the bartender for the high-quality beverages. The amenities, interior design, sunset view from the lobby deck, and the beach are quite nice, but the staff at Secrets impressed me just as much and made the experience more complete for me. I’ll be back for sure. Tips for those unfamiliar: bring sunblock, bug repellent, and ear plugs.

A lot of noise here at this resort. If you want to relax and have peace and quiet. This isn’t the resort for you. Do not go. Rooms were musty had to have a humidifiers in the room going constantly which was annoying. Food was good. Italian restaurant was good. Service was good. I wouldn’t return.

Can't wait to return!!

What a beautiful resort and the staff is impeccable. Rodriguez, our pool bar server was top notch. 5 STARS! Claudia (Jillian) our cusomer service representative was helpful and very curtious. Emilio, the beach attendant made sure that we were never hassled by vendors unless we asked for them to come to us and then he made sure they did not linger. The wait staff were friendly and most gracious. The front desk made sure to take care of us and our luggage before our late flight out. The rooms were clean and very spacious. I cannot wait to return and looking forward to bringing friends and family. I loved the option to either stay on the family/kid side or the adults only side, THANK YOU SECRETS!!

Good but not Great

This was our first trip to PVR and a Secrets Resort. We really enjoyed our trip to PVR and it was relaxing as that was the whole purpose of the trip. However we did pay good money to stay at this resort and we just do not see the value based on what was paid and the 5 star rating (or 4.5 on some sites) it has. During our stay we talked with many other couples. It was interesting to hear about the service or food quality of the same restaurant even the same night or time. Experiences ran the spectrum and this was our experience. First the good: The Service was fantastic for the most part. Each of the waiters/waitresses/hostesses try to remember your name, always greet you with a smile and do pretty much anything they can to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Julio, Carmen and Monserrath were standouts in the Garden Market. We had Maricio in Bordeaux twice and he was great. Manny was the best waiter on the beach. Bordeaux was by far the best restaurant for us, the food was fantastic and since it was on the Secrets side, the quiet atmosphere made it our preferred restaurant. We ate there 3 out of 9 days. The Garden Market had the best service by far even though it was a buffet, the whole staff were amazing including the chefs/cooks. We not only enjoyed the Garden Market for breakfast but it also was our preferred lunch spot and we ate dinner there a couple of nights and the food there was great for a buffet including steak, shrimp, tuna and salmon grilled to order. Capers Italian restaurant was also great. Fantastic service and the food was excellent. Being our first al la carte restaurant that we went to, we figured that we were at the best until we went to Bordeaux. The bars, all had great service and the drinks were pretty good. The staff were always there to help you enjoy your trip. The coffee shop was a morning ritual and although I cannot remember the barista's name, by the 4 day, my coffee was ready for me as soon as she seen me walking through the door. Now the bad: The Wine was horrible. I realize that everyone has different tastes and some would say that you do not go to Mexico for the wine but we have gone to several all inclusive's in Mexico and we have never had this poor quality of wine before. Part of going away is to enjoy yourself and wine with dinner is something we really look forward to. When we asked others about their experience, the response was similar. The option to the house wine is wine for purchase in the restaurants and it was extremely overpriced (3 or 4 times retail) so after a few days, we took some advice from a friendly couple we met, went out and bought our own wine and took it into the restaurants by the glass. I thought we were going for a premium experience. By the way, we did buy bottles twice because we wanted to enjoy our evening. Oceana Restaurant. What can I say, we tried this restaurant for two lunches and one dinner. First time at lunch they forgot our ceviche and brought us our salads. While we were eating our salads, we saw someone's ceviche sitting on the waiters stand but were not sure if it was taken off someone else's table or was it ours. After finishing our salad a long wait (we heard service was slow in this restaurant, so we were prepared) a waiter finally asked us if we were done and when we told them we had not yet received our ceviche, there soon was a flurry of questions between the wait staff, a waiter grabbed the ceviche that had been sitting out for 20 minutes or so and tried to serve it to us. We declined that and waited for fresh ceviche. On another night, they ran out of lettuce and that was the start of the night, so no salads that night. During the service happened to ask the waiter who brought us bread for another drink and he went to our main waiter to pass on our request. The main waiter seem to get mad and another flurry of comments and questions went back and forth between the wait staff and soon after we had a brand new waiter while the old one just seemed ignore us. The food was ok but not memorable. I would not recommend this restaurant. The Pillows need to be changed and again many others mentioned this as well while we were there. They are lumpy and uncomfortable. We tried to order hypoallergenic pillows off the menu but they said they did not have any. We ended up with a feather pillow and it was better than the room pillows but not by much. Our experience at Himitsu was not bad but not great. We had some good dishes and some that were not so good. We really hate to leave full plates at a restaurant but the mains did not look like they were touched much. We did not go back to this restaurant. Overall: In the end our experience with Himitsu probably is our experience with Secrets in general. It was good, it was not great, we have been to better. Was it as good of value as the cost, no. It was in a great location, the service and people were exceptional for the most part but it was not enough for us to say we would return.
