super time at silversands

The wife and I went to Secrets Silversands week of April 4, 2016. We had a great and relaxing time. Upon arrival we were greeted with great hospitality. Our bellhop man Willion was great. He went above and beyond his job responsibilty, and during our stay 4 days in, we saw him and remembered us and followed up to see if we were enjoying our self. Another person who stood out was the hostess at World Cafe. Nancy quite the mexican name. She was a very hospitable and outgoing person you can speak with freely. A final person who stood out was our waiter by the pool Fernando. After one order he remembered our drinks and continuously made sure we were all set. Fortunately for us he was working all the days we were by the pool. Never had a worry . What I like about Silversands is that even if they are full with about 300 people, you do not feel crowded. They have so many pools to lounge by and the beach so everyone is spread out. You always had activities you can do during the day and evening also. We saw A Beatle show one night that was very entertaining. Rooms were very nice and spacious. Favorite restaurants were French and Italian, even though all were good. I can go on and on, but I think in summary its worthwhile. We have stayed at various AM resorts, and have always been satisfied. There are always specific things that stand out. More>

Wonderful modern resort

I stayed at this resort for 6 nights in early April 2016. This is my fourth time to Mexico. ROOM: The room was beautiful. Very modern and sleek looking. My only complaint is the lack of privacy in the toilet. The door to the toilet is glass and the outer walls of the bathroom slide open and closed, but they don't provide the best privacy in the world. FOOD/DRINKS: Nothing in the food department really knocked my socks off. In fact, the buffet had the best food I ate there. There is no dinner buffet. If you want food for dinner your only options are going to one of the restaurants or getting room service. This means there are no non-formal attire requiring dinner options outside of room service. That was very annoying. There is a snack bar open during the day and they make a pretty mean burger. My compliments to folks on the grill. They have Corona and Corona Light which I was surprised about. At most of these resorts I've only found Modelo, Dos XX, and Tecate. There's no Captain Morgan contrary to what a few other reviewers have said. They have Flor de Cana which is basically rail rum. They have all of the other expected low to mid-level drinks one would expect (e.g., Crown, Jack Daniels, Jose Cuervo, Grey Goose, Kettle One, etc.). BEACH: I did not get in the water so I cannot speak to the quality of the ocean at the beach area. I will say we never had trouble finding lounge chairs and the beach is surprisingly big given the resort's size. They have a beautiful beach area and people are diligently removing seaweed from the tide throughout the day. SERVICE: Top notch. These folks were hustling all day and night. I almost never had to wait for a drink and food was always delivered quickly. Everyone was always smiling. I cannot speak highly enough of their service here. RESORT: The resort itself is pretty small. That made getting from point A to B extremely easy. If you forget something in your room it's really not a big deal since your room is less than a five minute walk away typically. There were people working hard all day on the landscape. It's easy to see they take pride in the aesthetics of their resort. The beach bar is fantastic. They have a deck area overlooking the ocean which was amazing at night. I sure do miss the ocean breeze while tossing back a beer or ten. Also, there is free WiFi everywhere. Literally everywhere at the resort. In the room? Yep. The pool? Yep. At the beach? Yep. POOLS: The infinity pool is really neat but it was pretty cold. It was neat for a bit but the real action is in the main pool. That thing gets pretty full every day and has a swim up bar. The other pools were hardly, if ever used. If you're looking to mingle then the main pool is where it's at. GYM: Cardio machines for those folks. Other than that they have machines that will target all of the necessary muscles groups. There is also a Smith machine. No free weights though, other than dumbbells and a loadable EZ curl bar. Still, I was surprised to see that much in regards to weights. OVERALL: This was a great 6 day vacation. It's a beautiful resort and the service is the best I have experienced in Mexico. If they got the food situation sorted out I think this would absolutely be worth a return trip. More>

Honeymoon of our dreams!

We chose to go to Secrets Silversands in December for our honeymoon. I spend a lot of time going over reviews and it came down to Secrets Silversands and Secrets Marona. The price difference between the two was significant and the reviews of SSS were so great that we chose to come here. We had a great experience from beginning to end. The property is very well kept and is big enough that you feel like you an get away from the action if you need to. The biggest complaint people have about this property is the beach and I have to admit that the ocean itself is very rocky and we did not spend any time out there. However, it should be noted that multiple people spend nearly their entire day ensuring that the beach itself it clean and usable. Another great thing about this beach is that we did not encounter anyone selling things like on other beaches. We went with the rooftop suite and we were very happy with the room. The view from this room shows you the entire resort and you have a great view of the ocean. Our only complain was that this room is SO NOISY. The air conditioner in the room was extremely loud and we had to sleep with it turned off. The noise itself wasn't that bad it was that it constantly amped up and down creating a "VROOM.... VROOM... VROOOM" pulsing noise that was too much to sleep through. The resort tried to fix it but ended up just showing us how to turn it off. The room is also right above the lobby where they play loud music until very late at night. As long as you bring ear plugs you will be fine. Because it was our honeymoon we booked a priority room and received the honeymoon package. This is standard at all Secrets resorts, but you have to request it when you book. The dinner on the beach made me feel like I was on an episode of the Bachelor and the massages were amazing. Because it was our honeymoon the upgraded room was worth the cost, but I'm not sure if it would be worth it otherwise. At some resorts you get to make early reservations for dinner, but that isn't required at SSS. The food and drink at this resort were by far the best I have experienced at a Mexican resort. We went to the French restaurant multiple times and everywhere else went was great. The lunch outside is very simple. We were sad that we did not come in to the world café for lunch until the last day because it was so great. The coffee shop serves really great pretzels for the snack if you are hungry between meals. The staff at this resort will go above and beyond for you, all you need to do is ask! We will be returning to a SSS as soon as we can! More>

Lovely resort but not for me

Just returned from a 7 night stay, first impressions were fantastic. Nice big room with a swim up pool, very clean with a welcoming bottle of bubbly and some chocolate bars. Mini bar was stocked up daily, shame the chocolates weren't. We were in a quite block and the pool was practically empty which was brilliant. Waiting staff were always keen to please. Tried 7 of the 8 restaurants which were all good. Loved the coco bar which was open 24hours, great for hot & cold drinks, cakes & sandwiches. When booking this holiday we were told that we would receive $200 worth of vouchers to spend as we wished but this was not the case they were to be used against bottles of wine ($10 at a time) or romantic dinner on the beach ($20 at a time) or spa treatment (I can't recall the denomination of this), I was hoping to use them against excursions but no such luck, so we didn't use any of them. Why pay for wine when you can have the house wines free!!! Reading other reviews regarding dress code in the restaurants, I don't see a problem in dressing up you're in shorts etc during the day it's nice to make the effort for the evening so for me this was a plus. There are 2 reasons why we would not return, firstly you are pretty much restricted to staying in the resort as there is nothing around which you can walk to, it's either a taxi trip or an excursion to somewhere. Secondly, this resort is mainly for the American market, now don't get me wrong, we holiday in America every year and love the people, but they are very loud and can't seem to have quiet conversations and it becomes quite overbearing sometimes, at the end of the day this is our holiday too and we just wanted to relax with a bit of peace & quiet. Fun, easy, and carefree

We had an absolutely great time at this resort. The room was huge, modern, and clean. We had a Junior Suite, Ocean View, Preferred Club room. The food and service ranged from very good to excellent (El Patio was our personal favorite restaurant). The bar has top shelf offerings, though you have to request them or you'll get lower quality liquor in your drinks. We never had to wait for more than a few minutes for anything. The spa was beautiful, but the menu is overpriced, more so than other resorts we have visited. If you are really looking to spend your time on the beach/in the ocean, this is probably not the resort for you. But the beach was very well kept up. Sure, there is seaweed that builds up near the water, but they do a great job of cleaning it up every morning. If you are happy to go to a beautiful resort and hang out in the pool, you will be very happy here. We never had problems finding good chairs by the main pool and the drink service by the pool and at the swim up bar was prompt. The sport and entertainment crew was hardworking and friendly. Also, a plus for us was that there was plenty to do while at the same time if you wanted quiet, it was very easy to find. Overall, we absolutely recommend this resort. More>
