This was our second trip to Silversands, we were there 4 years ago and had a very good time. I said if we ever go back that I wanted to stay in the Oceanfront swim out. We decided to go again and spent the money for this room. I was disappointed. We were given room 3115. This room was on the end and next to the infinity pool. I didn't realize that in order to get to the ladder to get in and out of the pool that we would have to walk in front of 7 other rooms and in front of everyone trying to enjoy the pool. I thought it was going to be private but didn't realize that everyone would be coming up to the end of the pool and hanging out on the ledge in front of our room. It was not private. On the Friday afternoon, I thought we were having a mini spring break in the pool!! I complained to the preferred club person and he informed me that he had gotten 6 calls about this! Security finally came out and people started dispersing. We also had maintenance come 3 times for a broken bathroom door, a clogged toilet and the room temperature just kept rising. The wonderful maintenance man brought us a floor fan which we ran constantly. Also, I can't understand why they took the tables and chairs away from the Sugar Reef (outdoor grill). The only place to eat was at the bar and it only had 8 bar stools. One day we had to take the food back to our to eat. I know many of you will be happy about this but, I want to give the smokers a heads up. When we were there previously, you could smoke at the outside bars. Now they have moved the smokers all the way to a back area. There is no smoking by the pools. Just wanted to put that out there. There were positives the preferred club was the coolest place in the resort, literally! We found all the rooms in the main building to be hot, especially in the morning. The food was good. The servers in the restaurants were also pretty good. Domingo and Nacnir (sp) the bartenders in the preferred club were great! Rosalia kept our room spotless and was always there early. Our favorite people were Monica and Amanda who kept us in drinks while swimming at the pool. They were wonderful! The best person there was Angelis! She is the friendliest, most attentive and nicest person in the entire place! I doubt we will be back. It was a let down for us. I agree with the seaweed smell but, could have over looked that if I felt I got what I paid for. I specifically purchased this room so there would be privacy. Maybe enjoy a meal or drink on the patio but, not with people constantly swimming by. One morning there were people swimming outside of our room at 7:30 am. The pool doesn't open until 8. Security just walked by. Unfortunately, I had to write a negative review here because I feel like when I complained to the staff it fell on deaf ears.

Time to part ways with SSS

We just returned from 5 nights at SSS. This was our 5th visit here. we are UVC members (Unlimited Vacation Club) so we get checked in at the preferred lounge. The person checking us in didn't seem too welcoming or phased at the fact we've been there many times and didn't budge when we asked for a different room other than the one she assigned. We know the buildings and lay out so naturally we weren't enthused when she tried to give us a room that was no where near an upgrade and didn't have a decent view. We stayed in a room for one night that faced tress until the next day where we changed rooms to a swim out. Overall that was a bit disappointing compared to our last 3 visits. I could care less about status and fake pleasantries but I do value good customer service, and consistent behavior which is why we came back to SSS for a 4th time. Service: service fell off a bit. Everyone seemed tired and overworked. Housekeeping came to clean at 8:30am one day (um, we are still in bed, its a vacation) and one evening the turn down service lady came at 9:30pm when we were already relaxing in bed. No big issues but there was definitely a lack of consistency. There were a few people who came thru and were sincere. Alex by the pool was awesome. He wanted to cater to everyone even if you insisted you were ok. He made your pool chairs nice and cozy :) The world cafe host and waiters were very nice and attentive and Ana (banana) from the entertainment team. She has been there since our last trip and she really goes out of her way to mingle with guest. We are not too involved with the activities as i really enjoy just relaxing but the activities just seemed young and mediocre. Food was good. It usually is. The restaurants were good and the service was good in all. I really love fish so i was happy that the fish I had was always fresh and cooked to my liking (Mahi mahi, salmon), they are good about making the dish to fit any dietary restriction so don't be afraid to ask. Rooms: We had a swim out that faced the front of the infinity pool.(Room 3103) Nice but not much sun hits. So you will need to sun bath elsewhere if your looking to lounge in the sun. The TV's are old. Mostly Spanish channels and hard to find any in English. Spa: you can get pretty good deals here. We had a couples massage.Overall we had a relaxing time. We visited the Vine hotel on a day pass and will be booking that next time.

Smaller scale resort could use some updates, seaweed was a big issue, employees were great!

I've been to a few resorts in this area now, so I kind of know the drill. We had a fine time at this resort, but I don't know that I could heartily recommend it. If you are headed here, rest assured, you will have a nice experience! - Overall I liked the layout of the resort. It's not that large so it was very easy to learn where everything was, and super easy to walk around. There are a lot of large clean pools to hang out at. Most of the restaurants are in the main building - it's a little odd in that it feels like you're going to a restaurant in a mall, but the food was excellent so no complaints there. The employees are super nice and friendly. The entertainment was probably my favorite out of the other places I've been to around here. The resort has a simple asthetic about it. Buildings are plain white. Palm trees litter the landscape. Rooms are very large and open and clean. Food was excellent, mixed drinks less so. The crowd ranges from bros and their assorted ilk, and older couples looking for quiet. - Let's break it down. - PROS: + Staff. Super enthusiastic and friendly. + Food. Breakfast buffet is enormous and impressive. Dinner was always excellent and I very much appreciate not needing reservations. + Pools. Many large pools to hang out at so you have options on where to chill each day. This is key knowing the loud bros will be at the center pool. + Room. I was thrilled at how enormous our room was, and that it included a large jacuzzi! + Cost. Definitely affordable. + Entertainment. I liked the various stuff they had going on each night. Sometimes a live band, sometimes a hypnotist, sometimes a "show" of Jersey Boys, maybe a movie shown against the side of a building. My favorite was a live violin player. She was amazing! - CONS - Smell. Yes, the seaweed is an issue for all resorts, but this made the ocean and beach unusable. It smelled so incredibly bad that we spent all our days by one of the pools away from the beach. This ended up being great for us, but kind of sad that we spent no time on the beach. - Upsell. While not nearly as annoying as other places, they do make you wait another 10-15 minutes after check in to learn about coupons and such. I hate this. Nowhere are you told up front that you have to sit through this type of thing. Comes with the territory in Mexico, but I still don't like it. - Drinks. While I like the drinks we ordered - there's no booze in them. We drank all day and all it did to me was make me run to the bathroom. Also, they are served in these brown plastic cups like what you had in elementary school at lunch. No straws - because apparently those are killing us - we brought our own which was nice. A note on the wine - it's no good. Whites were passable, reds were, ugh. - Seating. There were plenty of seats to choose from but as usual, all the "good" ones are booked up. Their "rule" about not leaving stuff on a chair for longer than 20 minutes is not observed. To keep your seats each day, tip the "pool concierge" who will set them up for you each morning. It's worth it. - Pool floats. The flat blue pool floats were like gold to these people. Finding and keeping one was a challenge. - Crowd. It's fairly noisy no matter where you sit. The center pool always has loud games going on, or loud crowds yelling. Even relaxing by the pool people nearby will stand and talk for hours, loudly. --- That's the long and short of it. Had it not been for the condition of the beach, I might have liked this much better. It would have given us another option for a place to hang away from the loud crowd. I very much liked the entertainment and food - you will not be disappointed there. It's not a super hip resort, and it's on the smaller side, but I still had a nice time here, and you will too.

Great getaway at Secrets

Just got back from 5 days at this fantastic resort.  When we arrived we were greeted by Jose with a cold towel and a glass of champagne and shown to the Preferred Club lounge which was very nice and had a great little bar.  Since we arrived at 10 in the morning our room was not ready, as we expected (hint pack a swimsuit in your carry on), however we still had access to all the resort has to offer.  We had lunch at Oceana which was excellent and then drinks at Barracuda.  We were able to get into our room at about 3 and were very impressed.  We stayed in a third floor Preferred Junior suite Oceanfront which was very well appointed, spacious and had a great view.    We’re both beach people and in spite of the seaweed issue that they work very hard to clean up we were able to find a nice shady spot under a palapa  each day.  We didn’t hang at the main pool which just wasn’t our thing, but looked fun if you're into games and activities.  After the beach we headed up to the Infinty Pool which was perfect and relaxing.   We ate at the Market Café each morning for breakfast which was very good and at Bordeuax, El Patio, Portofino and Oceana for dinner.  All were very good with Bordeaux and Oceana being our personal favorites.  It’s not exceptional gourmet food, but I didn’t expect that.   What really sets this resort apart are the people.  We received exceptional  and friendly service from everyone we encoutered form the bellmen to the wait staff and the cleaning folks.  Everwhere you go you’re greeted with a friendly Hola and a smile.  Of all the people that we had the pleasure of dealing with there are certainally some stand outs.  Special thanks to  Mario and Oscar at the Barracuda Bar, great drinks and fantastic service,  once they know your drink (after the first one) you never need to ask!  The servers on the beach were also amazing Amanda, Monica and Karina seemed to be able to anticipate exactly when you were in need of a beverage and knew exactly what to bring.  I’m gonna miss hearing “maybe one more?” when I’m sitting in my pool at home.  At the Market Café Yessica was amazing in that she remebered our name after the first visit.  Also we got to meet the legendary Alex the pool concierge who got my glasses cleaner than they’ve ever been.  Francisco was our waiter on our last night at Oceana and did a fantastic job including making us a special a special good bye desert!   Only 1 area I could see improvement was on the liquor selection.  They didn’t stock any Captain Morgan or Sailor Jerry, but the Havana Club Rum was very good.   All and all a great time at a great resort, we’ll be back.

Perfect resort to relax and take it easy

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Secrets Silversands. The ambiance was well suited for a relaxing and calm experience. By far, sitting in the pool with the swim up bar consumed a majority of our time. Food was much better than expected for an all inclusive and we were pleasantly surprised by the level of service the staff gave. Mariana on the entertainment staff made sure everyone felt welcomed and connected. In the World Cafe, Freddy, Salvator and Kendor made us feel like family. We would highly encourage anyone to visit any of the AMResorts. We even attended the 90 minute presentation and although it wasnt for us, the staff treated us with kindness and dealt with all of our questions professionally. We have only high reviews for all those who made our trip possible: Secrets Silversands, AMResorts, Executive Services, UVC, and BookVIP.com. The only negative was the beach is still inundated with seaweed (Most of the resorts in the area are) and the hotel temperature was always hotter than we prefer in the dining rooms, lobby, and especially our room. Drop the AC a bit in the common areas and service the room AC is our only recommendation.
